Went here for their open house. It was a very nice experience. Beautiful orchids, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the excellent quality. Orchids are extremely healthy and don't appear to have any pest issues. They are potted in high quality media with healthy root systems. I would note hesitate to purchase their orchids and hope to visit again sometime! Regarding another comment about rude and short email responses... One thing I will say is that I recommended their nursery to my friend. In trying to set up an appointment, my friend emailed the address given on the website and the response was a bit short and vague. He had to drive about an hour to get there so, while Fred (?) was kind enough to let him visit and see the nursery and my friend was grateful, he was nervous that someone may not be there to meet him when he arrived. And since I went to the open house and haven't arranged a visit, I wasn't sure what to recommend. It turns out Carlos was there and he had a great experience and bought some of his first orchids. And, I think he caught the orchid addiction bug already... read more

AMAZING!! I visited SVO yesterday and it was incredible! I pulled in and jumped out of the car, I was greeted and welcomed by Carlos, he was so kind and inviting he gave me a tour of the greenhouses and showed me the incredible selection of orchids. I told him that I was looking for a red orchid for my mom because red is her favorite color and she's never had a red orchid. He immediately jumped into action and looked for one, when he couldn't find one he told Ruben( has his own privet collection of orchids at SVO) about what I was looking for and Ruben walked me through his collection and found me a scarlet red orchid about to bloom!!!!! For the great price Ruben charged my mom is going to be ecstatic!! Ruben was kind and patient when my Venmo decided it wasn't going to work. Eventually I got it to work and I thanked him for his patience he told me "Of course. Orchids require lots patience so I am very patient" with a big smile I said thank you since it took me FOREVER to get my Venmo to work haha. So I ended up getting mom a total of three orchids, very unique ones so unique since they are hybrid orchids. As I was leaving Carlos showed me the cutest orchids I've ever seen they were so tiny and he showed me ones that were red and some white ones. I decided to treat myself and grab one for me! In conclusion I had a incredible experience, I learned somethings about care from Ruben and Carlos on the orchids I purchased. I learned how to get my mom year round orchids so she has some in bloom always. For a very reasonable price I was very happy with purchase! I will definitely be back! Maybe next time with mom and friends who love orchids. I definitely recommend this gem if you live in the area definitely visit! They also ship them so even if you're not local you can still purchase these beautiful hybrid orchids!! read more

We are very fortunate to not only have access to the orchids they grow, but Fred Clarke and his staff are a wealth of practical knowledge. It's evident they want you to succeed growing their orchids. The plants are fairly priced in the market and whether I've received plants via shipment or visited the greenhouse the plants are always in great conditions..If you get a chance to attend an open house, there is always some special plants offered. Carlos was super friendly and helpful; very patient in explaining their setup and business. Their focus is developing new varieties and there is a huge selection of obviously very healthy plants. We focused on the compact cattleya varieties and these were young plants in 2 in pots. Carlos assured my that if I could grow phalaenopsis (which they do not handle), I could confidently branch out to cattleya. So I took the plunge and picked a lovely red/orange specimen. When I was there, just a few plants were in bloom to help guide my choice, but this was a blessing because otherwise I'd still be there looking This is not a retail business, but visitors are cordially welcomed on certain days. I have ordered three times from Sunset Valley Orchids and ordered 6-10 orchids each time. My last order came with three of the seven orchids in very bad shape. Two had a virus, thousands of white spots on the leaves. One had three cut off leaves that were yellowing, one that had broken leaves that had to be cut off. I am just stubborn enough that if I pay for seven, I want seven healthy orchids. I tried to contact Fred Clarke several times, no response at all. If you look at all the reviews in Google, they go back two to five years with not a lot of current reviews, which means the negatives are being removed. Be careful. read more

I came across Catasetums a short while ago, and was looking for price, quality and service. I couldn't be happier with Fred and his team at SVO. I have ordered about 15 Orchids now, and all are healthy and flourishing pretty well. Because he is a hybridizes, I'd love to see a section of pictures submitted by customers. Have the SVO number, and pictures of what has come out of the crosses. It would be fun, and compare what I have to others, and would probably want me to order another of an SVO plant to see if I can gat a different color out of a SVO cross. Just a thought.
