One plumber could install a gas line only, another plumber could install a gas line and the gas cooktop but not the hood, and an appliance installation technician could not install the cooktop because he could not cut into the existing granite top. So I found Max of MRI Construction and Remodeling on Yelp, and he said that he could do the work within that original scope -- cooktop, hood, and gas line -- but that we should anticipate a backup plan in case the granite cracked during installation. Because we plan to live in this house for as long as possible, we decided to go through a full kitchen renovation. We had a prior experience with another general contractor who was impossible to get a hold of and who could not ensure the quality of the subcontractors he hired, and interviewed another general contractor who gave us the impression that we would have to engage with suppliers and subcontractors more than seemed feasible. We are happy to say that we just finished our kitchen renovation last week! And it was finished a week earlier than scheduled. We are thankful to Max and his team of subcontractors! We are really happy with the final kitchen, given how much we cook at home. And surprisingly the process was easy despite its size and time of 6 weeks. Max has the strengths and qualities you want for your construction projects: he's incredibly responsive, honest and communicative, and willing and able to troubleshoot issues that come up, as they invariably do, both small and large. He makes recommendations if you ask and gives you options for decisions for which there are too many options. He works with an amazing group of subcontractors who are experts in their craft. There was an exception with one subcontractor but Max was able to get that course-corrected so that the project finished strong. They explained it's normal since the railing is custom fabricated on site (not one solid piece), and similar to others in the neighborhood. Still, they came back out and glued them at no charge, and now everything feels solid. The finished look is beautiful--neighbors have already asked for referrals. So I called a few other roofers to come and bid on the project. Kenny Jr came out and quickly detected the issue and gave me a detailed project plan. I decided to go with KLC mostly because I found Kenny to be very reliable and knowledgeable. Him and his team worked with me through this complicated project that involved some wood repair by them, re-stuccoing by my contractor, and them coming back to finish and seal the roof. I had a lot of anxiety about the project but Kenny's diligence amd collaborative spirit made it all go so smoothly. The office (Elsa) is also great and very flexible, making sure that the project works well with my schedule. After the repair was done, we did some water test, but saw some water inside. Kenny came back to inspect and found that its not the roof leaking, but the chimney wall, which he fixed right then and there. We water tested again and no leak :) I have worked with a lot of contractors, but KLC is definitely top tier in terms of reliability, attention to details, flexibility, and diligence. $ Handyman Alex SERVICE REQUESTED: I was able to reach out…read moreto Alex with no problem at all, and I described the issue with the toilet - simply running for an extended period after a routine flush, which I recognized as a "flapper" problem, the rubber flapper was not seating properly and the water ran until shutting off the valve. Alex was quick with his reply and we arranged to meet at my home on the 4th of July, and he arrived exactly on time. At first, it took a few moments to catch on to his accent. This very pleasant handyman is formerly a Russian, and he is perfectly happy to be alive and working in the home of the brave. In he walked, very confident, with a fairly lrge satchel full of assorted tools. I brought him to the site of the offending troublesome valve and he set to work on it at once. In what was probably less than 20 minutes, he had the toilet flushing perfectly, at least 4 times, allowing a fill each time. Congratulations Alex! QUALITY: One cannot argue with success. The job was handled properly, promptly, with hardly a word spoken. At one point, he wanted to draw my attention to a part, and when he wasn't able to say it, he apparently tooked it up and showed me the translated word on his phone. Clever, this fellow, quick and clever. VALUE: Alex had agreed with me in advance regarding the fee. He was happy to take my check and after talking with me in general about some painting (Ceiling) I might wish to complete, for which he gave me a fine estimate, he drove away. SUMMARY: Alex did exactly what he was asked to do. There was no holding out for more money or any such nonsense. Fee was perfect. Very highly recommended without reservation.
