I was immediately surprised at just how much energy a solar array in Seattle could produce in winter. In 2021, after 3 summers in a row of wildfire smoke in Seattle, we made a decision to remove our chimneys and let go of the nostalgia of a wood fire. By removing two chimneys, we created space for 10 more panels, added an electric induction stove, a heat pump, and closed our account with the gas company. With net metering by Seattle City Light, various state and federal tax incentives, the entire installation has nearly paid for itself. We were told by the installation manager, Dickson, that the city would replace our existing meter for a two way meter within maximum 3 months. This seems mostly the fault of Seattle City Light, with whom it seems nearly impossible to communicate. Without the two way meter, I'm still paying for electricity even though I have a functioning solar panel system on my roof - 8 months after the installation was complete. NW Wind & Solar gets a 1 star review because they haven't returned phone calls or email since the install was complete and are doing a terrible job advocating for their customer (me) with Seattle City Light. The receptionist I spoke with said they had re-organized but still no response from them. The previous reviews on Yelp were initially reassuring but something has changed at this company and I cannot recommend them at all.
