I took my first SoulCycle class today with Tyler. Tyler is a new coach at the location but as a rider you would never know. He coaches with confidence and encouragement and makes you feel so welcomed to his class. His energy is just what I needed. The waiting area is spacious and has two entrances into the room which helps to eliminate crowding. I tried SoulCycle Roslyn this past winter. It is clean facility with many lockers and adequate parking. Gyms close early on weekends, so as a night owl, it was a nice surprise to see SoulCycle Roslyn has a class every Saturday at 6pm. The prospect of complementing my weekday classes there was promising. "Rides" incorporate standing while pedaling, so you must rent or buy special shoes that rigidly attach to the pedals. Shoe rental fee is waived for your first class. A counter attendant brought me to an empty bike and attached my shoes onto the pedals. Before turning on the music, the instructor (Casi) said, "Are there any new people here?" Another attendee and I raised our hands and she said hi from the platform. Then the lights went down, the music came up and the pedaling started. For the next 60 minutes, Casi shouted **"GO!"** and **"HARDER!"**, occasionally reminding the class about how she makes it tough because that's the only thing that works and they love her for it even though they're suffering. I know not to try tough new moves on unfamiliar equipment, but pity any newbie who doesn't. Casi never explained or clarified. The club-style sound system was so distorted that I could not discern the name of a new move. I tried to see the postures and handlebar positions but, alas, I left my night-vision goggles at home. Thus, my $20 intro to SoulCycle was a stationary bike-ride in the dark. At the end, the participants filed out to the lockers and the instructor headed for the door at the side of the studio opposite from me. I called to Casi that my feet were stuck in the pedals. She quipped over her shoulder, "That's probably the hardest part of the class" and left without breaking her stride. One class member stayed behind to help with my left foot, then a cleaning attendant helped with my right foot. The next morning, I got a SoulCycle email asking to rate my experience. I'm obsessed. Just started last month and it was all because of one instructor - Matt Miller! All the instructors are fantastic though, but Matt really made me want to join SoulCycle. It just happened my first class was with him on a Friday. His classes are inspiring and super motivating! I left feeling exhilarated and ready for anything (which I was because I had surgery that following Monday). I'm back this month and have tried a bunch of other instructors and they are all really amazing. The staff are excellent as well. I had a baby 3 months ago so looking forward to shedding the baby weight with SoulCycle! read more

This studio is so cool! Very modern and clean. I took two classes at introductory prices. One teacher you could understand over the music the second you couldn't understand her over the music so I looked at people around me. The people behind the desk were helpful and friendly too. With how this place is marketed, along with prices, this place caters to people that are more affluent. With that, comes a lot of stigmas; at least in my mind. Better than you attitudes, loads of judgement, could care less demeanor are just a few things I've come to expect. My first experience there had none of that. I walked in to be greeted by two smiling receptionists. I mentioned I was with a company (that is paying for my ride) and welcomed me as they knew we were coming. A brisk signing of forms and getting our rental shoes, we were all set to go. The place is setup to be somewhat like an Apple store; very minimalistic. For this location, you walk in and there is a pretty substantial lobby area. There you will see a Dry Bar entrance, Drink/Food entrance, and the entrance to get into the cycling area. The lockers go by a combination you make up on the spot, so there is no need to bring a lock. Since with a class here there is bike assignments, finding my bike was fairly quick. Once on the bike you can set it up yourself or you can have an assistant that walks around the class to help you. Once the lights dim, the class begins. The instructor is a very up-beat, energizing personality that quickly gets you motivated. A welcome once-over of all the hand positions for all the newcomers starts it off as the music feeds in. The song selections were electronic big bass tracks that worked well with the various paces we were riding at. The integration of the upper body workouts made it feel like a well rounded workout. I see myself returning and developing more thorough review as I experience different instructors, and wet/juice bar. read more

I feel like Yelping SoulCycle is pointless; either you love SoulCycle, or you don't...but after reading the reviews, I felt compelled to add a different perspective. I'm not going to get into what SoulCycle is or discuss the class structures themselves...if you want that, Google has plenty of options for you. As far as gyms are concerned, though, this place is spotless. I prefer the Roslyn location's layout over Woodbury for everything but the studio; there just seems to be a bit more space here. Front desk staff is always helpful and friendly, like everyone at Soul. This location as the electronic locks on the locker, which I prefer as well. I'm a teacher, so my schedule during the school year tends to be restricted, as I work in Brooklyn and have to wake up before Soul even offers a rooster ride. I tended to only take classes with the same instructors, however, now that it's summer, I have a change to try other times/instructors. I have never had a bad ride here; all the instructors introduce themselves, ask riders if they are new, and are incredibly encouraging. Jo is a great instructor and has some awesome theme rides; even after waking up at 4:45 am, she manages to make me feel energetic and empowered at 7:30 pm. I've taken Jade's classes before, and I've found her to be nothing but positive and optimistic; her playlists are great as well. I always walk out of her classes feeling empowered. read more

Soul Cycle Roslyn is the best of the Soul locations I've ridden at and this is why I keep going back. Splitting my time between Manhattan and Long Island I often ride at Roslyn, NoHo, SoHo, and Union Square. Roslyn is SO much cleaner than the city studios I ride at. There is never a bad smell in the room and the bathroom and changing rooms are always spotless. The front desk staff is also super friendly, helpful and upbeat. They really make it a point to get to know your name, something which I've yet to experience in a city studio. Some of my favorite teachers at Roslyn include Jade, Mikki, Jo and Casi. read more

Now this is a workout!! I tried Soul Cycle for the first time about 2 years ago when I was hungover and swore I would never do it ever again(I ended up getting off the bike and vomiting in the bathroom...tmi?) Then my friends all started recently doing it a few times a week, which I thought was impressive because I died after trying it one time in less than 15 minutes. I gained the courage to try it again with my best friend the morning after Christmas because New Years was in a week and I was starting to resemble Hagrid. I was very scared and intimidated, being the only newbie in the room. But, it ended up being one of the best workouts I've ever had in my life. The instructor(I think his name was Noah?) was the coolest guy, really encouraged the class, played great 90's hip hop, and made me want to keep on pedaling! Of course, there were moments in the class where I felt like I couldn't breathe and it started to get extremely challenging, but there was such a rewarding feeling once you were done. I recommend this workout to anyone who loves cardio, great music, and fast-paced workouts. DO NOT TRY THIS HUNGOVER! It's the worst thing you can do, especially if it's your first time. Couldn't give it 5 stars because it is way too overpriced, there are other workouts just as good for a much more reasonable price. But, overall, I loved it and can't wait to come back. read more

I had a great time. The place is very clean and the bikes are in new condition. I really liked the attention (customer service) as soon as you walk in. The process is very simple, they give you your spinning shoes and off you go. It was an amazing first experience and the trainer really pushed me to my limits and beyond. I had such an AMAZING first experience. The Soulcycle website is SO EASY to use, so it was very simple to sign up for my first class. I love how this isnt a "membership" type of gym, but rather you buy classes and use them anytime within a specific timeframe. Your first class is $20, and then your second class is free. Although I heard from the grapevine that your 2nd class is free, it bothered me how I had to ask them for the free class, instead of them offering it to me... On top of that, the receptionist made it sound like he was doing me a favor, rather than trying to get my business. Besides that, I loved the vibe of the studio. Super clean and modern looking. I was fairly nervous since I have never cycled before. The receptionist then took me into the cycling room and measured me into my seat, although I wish he showed me how to do it so I could do it myself next time, and helped me get my cycle shoes into the machine. I thought it was so awesome that the class is basically in a pitch black room with only 4 candles surrounding the instructor who was on the podium. Honestly I felt more relaxed since I felt like I could go at my own pace instead of ridiculously fast, pushing myself too hard while trying to keep up with the regulars. Also I loved how the music was BUMPING. The super loud club music got me motivated and put me into an awesome groove. I was kind of annoyed because I accidentally dropped my water bottle on the floor during the class and since the receptionist didnt really show me how to unclick the shoes out of the machine, I had to take my shoe off in the middle of the class to pick up my water bottle. My instructor was Casi, who is a fucking ANGEL. Super cute and friendly and knew how to kick your butt. She was so motivational and inspiring, I cant wait to take my next class with her! My only real complaint is how pricey the classes are, but you get you put into it! Took one class and ended up in the HOSPITAL with Rhabdomyolysis for 7 days! They need to rethink the way they do classes. There was no intro class when I went a few months ago. If there were at the time I bet I wouldn't have ended up in the hospital afterwards with kidney failure. BTW Iam 5'6 and 125lbs, in great shape and under the age of 35 and have no pre-existing conditions.... my doctors explained that an OVERKILL of exercise can send anyone into the hospital with Rhabdomyolysis, and that SoulCycle isn't being conscious of how they introduce newbie cyclists. Apparently this is a growing trend in the hospitals, (as per all 5 of my doctors) and is also known to happen to people that do Crossfit. I will never get over the emotional trauma this caused me. Beware of what you do, and the companies you do it with. read more

Pure energy. Pure excitement. Pure motivation. These instructors take you in mega adrenaline pumping ride. That you just get lost in the trance of the music and vibe of your fellow riders. This is the best way to get in your cardio and also get some strength training in. Sweat so much that as soon as I walk out I need to switch to another towel. Love you Soul Cycle Roslyn. The staff at the front desk were very cheerful and helpful. However, Jade was quite the opposite. She began the class with "I'll wait..... I'll wait for quiet......Still waiting for everyone to stop talking....", a great way to start a class. She did not introduce herself to my friend, whom was a first time rider, which is custom at SoulCycle. Throughout the class, she continually scolded people for making noise. Whether it was "No one should be talking" or "I don't know why I hear noise", the tone of the class was very negative and I felt like I was being spoken down to like a child. From the very first minute of class to the very end, when she gave a speech about the importance of offering gratitude to her, the class was not the jolt of positivity that the NoHo location was. I was embarrassed that I had brought my friend along this time and this was her first experience. It seemed like a more expensive version of what we had done in the past at the YMCA, except we were told to "stop talking" the entire time (though this "talking" was a few brief words of encouragement to my first time friend). Though I know there are other instructors at Roslyn, I will not be coming back to this location due to the negative experience I had. Moral of the story: Steer clear of Jade's classes, unless you enjoy being told to be quiet during an intense cardio workout. read more

The class I took was fun, energetic, and intense! If you're going to cycle, it better be the Soul way! I never sweat so much doing a workout before. The bikes are easy to use and get used to. The only issue I had were the shoes, I may have either taken the wrong size shoe or the shoes weren't wide foot friendly Because from the ball of my foot to my toes were hurting. I had to stop a few times Because of that but it was a good excuse to drink some water too which is essential for this class! Stay hydrated! read more

SoulCycle is so different than any type of work out I have ever done. This was my first experience ever with SoulCycle and it was definitely not my last. I took an 8:30 AM class which was great for me because I love to work out in the morning and get a head start to my day. The girls at the front desk were so sweet, very informative and helpful. My instructor's name was Mark the only word I can think of to describe him is amazing. His music choice was on point and he is SO motivational. The class itself is VERY challenging, but I can tell you it is worth it. Mark continued to remind us of the reasons we were there and really wanted us to keep going! Took a class here last Friday with Ayana since i was visiting for a wedding and had some time to kill and i can't explain the disappointment. For the first 10 minutes into the class people continued to trickle in and open the door which ruined the flow of the class and needless to say - SHE NEVER GOT ON THE BIKE. Addicting, invigorating and refreshing. Staff is very helpful and kind, and Instructors are challenging, friendly and affirming. During the workout, they even provide some mediation to help you get lost in the ride and to get in touch with your best self. Great Exercise. All instructors are fit and motivating. I usually do kickboxing and this was a great change. You can add resistance to the wheel based on your fitness level so I really did not understand the previous comment. Not judemental at all. Very professional staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great workout. read more
