It was my first time at this location, and I was disappointed that there were no eucalyptus towels. This is my favorite part of Equinox, and all the fridges were empty. There was technically one fridge I saw that had a towel on it, but it was unrolled and dirty. The equipment was clean and functioning at least, and the heated pool was clean as well. I have been a member of Equinox Great Neck for years, but I am leaving because the billing issues have become so serious that keeping a credit card on file feels financially unsafe. In my experience, charges can appear without clear notice or explanation, and resolving them can be frustrating. If you have ever purchased a private fitness training package or Pilates package, I strongly recommend keeping your own detailed record of the number of sessions remaining, cancellations, and any communication with trainers or the front desk. I have experienced mistaken charges related to private lessons, including charges that appeared to be connected to incorrect input by instructors or confusion around remaining sessions. Illnesses and unexpected situations can happen, but I found that the billing process does not always handle these situations carefully, and late cancellation or full-course charges may still appear unexpectedly. Another issue is the high turnover of private trainers and Pilates instructors. Customers can easily end up dealing with a new trainer or front desk staff who may not know the full history, especially if the prior trainer involved in the mistaken charge has already left the company. This makes it very difficult to resolve billing issues afterward. Overall, the billing and session-tracking process feels disorganized. Jared Ratliff is the ultimate dirtbag, he should be a used car salesman with his level of business acumen. He knows how to pretend and smile in your face at the gym but after being a member for almost a decade the slimeball can't even jump on the phone with me to explain why they deactivated my account out of nowhere. Just responds via email like a coward and makes excuses. He'll gladly take close to $300 a month in all access membership fees but no heads up or accommodation for the inconvenience and never took ownership of the issue. All over a change of employers for my corporate plan which they didn't notice for 2 years, they just outright cancelled my membership instead of adjusting the price, honor the current price since I work at another firm that has a corporate plan with equinox, or giving me a month heads up to make changes. I walked into a gym in Manhattan and was told the Great Neck branch cancelled my membership. Luckily after 30 minutes of an ordeal they were courteous enough to allow me to workout for the day. I joined this specific equinox location in 2018 after graduating college (as I no longer had access to the school's gym) and I can only say the gym has gone downhill since. The good: Not always super crowded, definitely very "judgement free", an overall calming aesthetic, all staff I've encountered have been super kind and helpful The not so good: A lot of this is due to the members having zero gym etiquette. While the cleaning staff fully deserves five stars, they're human too and there's only so much they can do. Members leave sweaty towels, suspicious wet tissues, water bottles, and dirty wipes all over the place. I've also encountered more obnoxious individuals here than at my old university's free gym. Not to mention the groups of teens who are always playing around with the machines but not actually using them? Members aside, machines are constantly broken or a little out of whack, the gym is HOT (like muggy, humid, moist, grossly hot), and the selection of equipment is paltry for the price members are paying. The hours are ridiculous (don't think you'll be able to get to the gym after work if you have a 9 to 5), the shop is almost always closed, and the smoothie bar no longer exists. I want to love this gym so badly, especially after seeing other Equinox locations, but it feels impossible. Most likely switching to Lifetime Fitness as soon as I can. read more

How can one not like a luxury gym like equinox. It is an established brand and there is an expectation of refinement in atmosphere and presentation. I only was a member for one year many years ago. I did enjoy my time being a member the only detractor of the experience and the great neck location was the fact that the pool was leaking through to the ceiling of the gym. Really not sure why this place has so many bad reviews. Before becoming a member, I visited many gyms in the area such as NYSC, Planet Fitness, LifeTime, Retro etc. I thought this was the cleanest and best one.. A lot of the reviews comment on the pampered and spoiled clients but who cares? Am I the only one who doesn't give a F about other people? I just go to work out, do me and get my sweat on. And in all honesty, it's normal for a machine to be broken here and there but I haven't noticed any machines being broken for long. Maybe some of the people commenting here have very high standards but I've been to plenty of gyms and all gyms require maintenance which is normal. Kristen is the best advisor ever. A most terrifying experience: a cleaning woman came to my shower stall 3 times while I was under the water. She won't leave, just stood there staring at me, saying something I couldn't understand - is there a better way to violate a member? Idk why there are so many bad reviews but i really like this Equinox. I absolutely loveee the classes they offer- cycling, athletic training, barre, zumba, water aerobics, etc. Personally i really enjoy cycling gets my heart rate up and ANTHEM is soo fun, high energy, great hip hop/edm music that's my jam i totally get lost in it and i usually hate cardio. Butt and abs classes i've tried were not as challenging for me (i have been working out for years/athletic forever) but they include exercises for every muscle so that made it tough and i definitely worked up a sweat. Barre was actually one of the tougher classes i've taken had no idea what to expect but it burned my muscles with very light weights. So nice to switch up my regular routines. Slyvia is AMAZING i would highly recommend her classes. Showers, locker room, steam room are all really nice and clean and stocked. Can get a bit crowded but love the bathing products they got. Towels and cold towels always handy on 2nd floor i wish it was on all the floors though. There are some cons though of course. Annoying that the machines and free weights are all kinda scrunched together. They put weights back but it just feels cramped. Floor work for stretching and abs aren't that big either but they have like every piece of equipment you can ask for-kettle bells, yoga/bosu balls, steps, battle ropes, etc. Most machines and cardio are on the first floor, some machines on the second floor that's where cycling and main studio is, third floor has a nice pool but pretty small and gets crowded plus spa and barre room. Parking lot is pretty damn crowded depending on what time you go but there is valet. Juices and food offered look super yum but pretty expensive, makes sense though this gym is expensive but if you go often and take advantage of those classes it'll be worth! read more

I joined this gym because New York sports club closed due to pandemic. This gym offers stuff identical to nysc such as locker rooms, showers, towels, classes, free weights, steam room, weight machines and cardio. Equinox costs $186 per month with year contract. Nysc was like $55 a month. The worst part of this gym are the hours. Closes at 9 pm Monday to Thursday. But during weekend it closes at 5 pm which is obnoxious and too early. Any holiday weekend, you will need to go before 3 pm. Over 2021 Labor Day weekend, they close at 3 pm each day Saturday Sunday and actual Labor Day. Planet fitness and LA fitness are open until 7 pm and 8 pm. Good luck complaining to the management. They will give you lip service about how the times they are closed are based on member utilization so it sounds legitimate. And they will say they are "constantly readjusting" to coronavirus blah blah blah. Fact is they should be open reasonable hours to other gyms in the area. And equinox is several times more expensive. They don't let you cancel either. read more

There are over 100 gyms to choose from if you live in the Long Island/Metro area. And I would not recommend this gym at all. Based on my experience the current membership fee ($165.00 and going up $5.00 annually) is not worth it. You are not getting the value of your dollars. Plain and simple. Let me explain why. Equipment breaks down and maybe inoperable for weeks on end. This is unacceptable for the money you pay here. Your membership fee continually increases every year due to "standard industry practices, and surcharges from our vendors". And Yes, occasionally they do reinvest your dollars into new equipment and unnecessary multi million dollar renovations. But to be honest, I could care less about how the gym looks like on the inside. For example, this year they redesigned the lockers rooms. The locker rooms looked fined before. So my membership is going to increase because of cheap wood paneling that was probably imported from China !? The last five years, Equinox has been acquiring other gyms and continually raising the membership dues. I don't have a problem with this if I had access to these gyms. Well, Guess what ? You don't. You have to pay extra. In their lovely billing statements they send you every January listing the reasons for the yearly price increase is not at all justified and rarely do you ever see those dollars. And I am sure they don't tell you this when you sign up as a new Member either. I'll give you another example of how greedy this gym is. When it opened up in 2006 they gave early members a special rated discount. And for those particular members they have been increasing their memberships higher so they can catch up with everyone else. Shouldn't they lock those rates up !? And What if you have multiple family members going here, any discounts !?! Nope, don't look for it here. Any loyalty programs !? Not happening. Everything is take it or leave it. Super arrogant. Now, the staff is great. The maintenance people are kind and keep the place spotless. But what is upsetting is how the staff is compensated. Not very well. So it is not definitely not the staff's salaries putting pressure on membership dues, nor is it the renovations because they happen once in a blue moon. The high turnover rate with management, staff, and trainers says it all. The massages are laughably overpriced. They offer 25 minute massages $97.00 Lol. Are they kidding !? So don't expect 80 -110 minutes massages being any cheaper. This gym has really fell out of touch in the last few years. If you want to belong to an upscale gym, one should expect higher premiums but I can tell you from years of experience this gym is not it. In a few years, members will be paying almost $200.00 a month for a very mediocre experience. If another gym opens up in close proximity this gym would be finished. And they know this. Equinox is a great franchise if you want to work out, stretch, and/or chill with clean and modern amenities. I love the option of chilled towels whenever I go to their classes before or after grabbing some grub in their kitchen. The staff is friendly and helpful. When they want to earn you as a customer, they will call you several times a day, and will return your calls and emails; However, once you are a customer and have an issue, they consistently don't reply to emails and phone calls, weeks and weeks to get a hold of them. Other than the spin classes, I can't say I really enjoy coming to this location. As an all access member paying $225 a month, this location is just NOT up to par with Equinox standards. Lockers are outdated with no locks...seriously? I have been to many locations and this location probably has the filthiest showers...always hair, shaving crème....the cleaning turnaround is super SLOW. Towels smell like there is no detergent used. I've been a member for over 2 years now and must say that this is a pretty great gym. I always look forward to working out here to destress and get my workout for the day in. There is a large selection of free weights and cardio machines. The classes are awesome with motivating instructors who really challenge you. The schedule is always being updated and they have so many different ones to choose from at a variety of times. There are four different group class areas to separate group fitness, spinning, yoga, and pilates. Whatever you are into or want to try out, you will find it. The staff is great and the equipment is clean. I've never had an issue with any of the cardio machine availability and have not noticed any machines being routinely unavailable due to maintenance issues. The locker rooms are nice. The bathrooms are fully stocked with pretty much all the amenities you could need, including disposable combs. I've been to many different types of gyms over the years (discount, bodybuilder/Gold's type places, women's only, etc) and the environment is more welcoming and friendly than most of the other places I've ever been to. Sometimes they have social events or group classes on the roof deck, which is a nice touch on beautiful days. The only downside is that it can get very crowded during the peak times and equipment in the free weights can pretty limited. For example there is only one power cage and one squat rack. That being said if you're big into Olympic lifting this probably isn't the gym for you. Also, compared to the Equinox locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, this one is pretty spacious. The crowding is just a Long Island/tristate area thing in general and also speaks to how popular this place is. They have valet parking attendants during peak business hours and there is an ancillary lot across the street that always has parking. read more

It's hard to summarize my experience as I've been a member from 2008 through 2016 -- exactly 8 years, and probably averaging about 5 times/week going to Equinox. I've had a mixed bag of experiences, some amazing, some mediocre, and some horrific. I've also now had the opportunity to compare Equinox to other options, as I have been going to Life Time Fitness for almost 6 months prior to finally canceling my membership at Equinox. The first thing I can say is that, at least for me and my family, there is no comparison between Life Time and Equinox: Life Time blows Equinox away in just about every respect. I will break it down for people both qualitatively and quantitatively, for those interested in a comparison, or if you're stuck between the choices. At a high level, the clubs couldn't be more different: Equinox is a typical gym that tries to be high-end, and charges for it. Life Time is a lifestyle that incorporates the entire family, and while it doesn't try so hard to be high-end, it really is. Life Time is a destination and a wholistic lifestyle experience, where you get a more diverse group of people from many cities and demographics coming together. The mutual respect of the members at Life Time is unbelievable. I can't say the same about Equinox, which is a more pretentious environment. I don't even know that it's the people, as I think Life Time is such a positive atmosphere that it really brings out the best in people, and I personally feel like a better person, and a better athlete at Life Time. Both clubs will give you nice shampoos and towel service, but the warm smiles you get from the Life Time staff (and more importantly, the other members) makes the latter a unique experience where you really forget about life for a while. Because I work in Manhattan, I will miss being able to jump into any Equinox. Living in Great Neck, moreover, I have to actually drive about 15 minutes to get to LT, rather than 5 minutes to get to Equinox. At first, I thought this issue would be insurmountable, and may even cut into my workout schedule, and motivation to go to the gym, so I kept my Equinox membership active for several months before finally killing off Equinox. The result for me was that once I experienced Life Time, it was almost impossible for me to go to Equinox. My wife had the same experience independently, and I've spoken to a few former members of Equinox that I've seen at Life Time, so I think this has more to do with some je ne sais quoi with Life Time. To get into some of the more financial and quantitative comparisons, Life Time has saved me hundreds of dollars a month. Let me explain: At Equinox I was paying over $200/month per person for me and my wife (so over $400/month for the two of us). In addition, on the weekends, we'd take our two toddlers with us, for which we'd pay about $10/each per kid per day. So for 4 weekends per month that's: 2 kids x $10/day-per-kid x 8 days/month = $160/month What this bought us was that the kids played in a small room while we worked out. There were usually two very amazing girls who took care of the kids, and we admittedly loved every one of them, and they really were the sweetest things. But at the end of the day, it was a small room with limited space, no windows, and not much to do. And at $40/weekend, I'm not sure it was a great deal. Meanwhile, at Life Time, we pay $380/month for the family, which includes the kids being members. We don't have to pay per day when we bring the kids. Moreover, they have a beautiful space about 10x the size, with windows, special rooms where they teach classes -- everything from karate, gymnastics, arts and crafts, sports skills, etc. What's crazy is that even if not for the extra $160/month for the Equinox child care, we'd still be saving money at Life Time. But in total, we're saving $180/mont at LT, while our kids are having the best time, learning real skills, and with access to dozens more resources and full-time counsellors who have organized real activities for the kids. Again, this is no comparison, and saving over $2k/yr in membership and child care fees, it's incomparable. The only families with young children going to Equinox are those who don't know about Life Time. Sadly, after 8 years of loyal membership with me and my wife, the club chose to be very nasty to us on the way out, not honoring my remaining personal training sessions, etc. It seems that Equinox has a very short-term relationship approach to customer service. That's not to say that they have not had great managers there over the years...A few times they have had some excellent ones. But they've equally had some nasty vile ones. Very sad. Some other details: Equinox pool is gross, overly warm, and over-subscribed. Life Time pool is gargantuan, with indoor/outdoor slide, kids pool, multiple temperature zones, and clear as a bell. Equinox has limited floor space while LT is unending. Equinox never evolved, and so they lose hands down. read more

I started my membership in August 2019. The people that work there are super nice and are always willing to help. I trained with Jesse Agbotse. He recently became a Tier 3 trainer. Jesse makes working out fun while still making sure you are progressing to your goals, he is very understanding about scheduling and is super flexible. He is very knowledgeable about his anatomy and physiology and just doesn't make you push weights endlessly. I highly recommend getting the 24 session package to start off with, as it is a better value. Overall the facility is well maintained and repairs happen in a timely manner. read more

Customer Service here Sucks! for the amount of people pay here there should be at least 2 people checking in ppl at rush hour not one!. When I went in I had to talk to a manager and they made me wait because the manager was "working out" excuse me? are you on the clock and working out? I have been on Equinos all over NY and never had I have to wait because the manager was "working out" it felt like I was getting the ran around! Also the classes here are too packed and the locker room was dirty for equinox standards there wasn't a maintenance person around. Also there was a nail on the floor of the shower because the towel hanger broke off MEGA LIABILITY! I'm a fan for some of the obvious reasons, mainly that on a 'typical' every day gym level, there's not many places that can compete with Equinox and especially in this area, your alternatives are really, really, really bad (you might as well leave your locker open at LA Fitness since someone will break in anyway). Equinox also has a high level of cleanliness which is upheld at this location, you'll always see staff on the floor cleaning. I haven't taken any classes, but the main studio room is rather large, much bigger than your standard manhattan location studios. There's a standard cycle room as well. My biggest gripe is that I think they need a layout re-evaluation. There just seems to be a lot of either dead space, or unnecessarily crowded space. Also, the space on the 2nd floor is mainly an afterthought. If you use any of the cardio or other machines up there, you basically feel secluded, as if you're working out in a small hotel gym or something. They should consider using that space for something specific so that it can drive and distribute traffic up there, perhaps a stretch area with the tables, or a cardio only area. Other than that, I've never had any issues with this location, and the equipment and other gear they have available (kettlebells, med ball, etc) is very wide ranging. A few important notes: -Large parking lot, I've never had an issue getting a spot -The lockers have not been upgraded yet with the 'resettable' code style lockers that alot of equinox gyms have installed, so you still need to bring your own lock -I'm not a user, but the pool is very popular here -Fully stocked juicebar in the lobby read more

Equinox Great Neck! Long time all access member of Equinox, love visiting as many locations as I can. Yes I am obsessed with Equinox and its fantastic classes. Love this location! Love everything EXCEPt the parking lot. Parking can get extremely overcrowded, especially during prime time (8-10am, 5-8pm) There is valet for free. Clientele- mostly regular long island housewives here. Kids club, spa, yoga studio, main studio, cycle studio, free weights, cardio machines, weight machines, shower & steam rooms, cafe (pretty gross) Some of the trainers here are great- good tip- if you see people in light blue shirts- they are actual trainers! they walk around and are there if you have questions, most people don't realize they are actual trainers and are there to help people out! All the typical equinox amenities here- main studio, yoga/barre studio, spin studio, tons of free weights, tons of machines, everything you can imagine. All the machines are new and in excellent condition and are up to date with the latest technology. Love that they are constantly replacing the yoga mats. LOVE LOVE LOVE the group fitness classes. They are so much fun and the energy is always high. Instructors are enthusiastic and challenging. Tip- try jackie sherwood's classes, she is awesome. LOVE best butt ever with jackie friday 830am,steve ramirez metcon tues 6am and steve ramirez whipped wednesday 730pm. This location has also the typical amazing equinox amenities in the locker rooms, towels galore, qtips,cotton balls, shaving creme razors and of course KIEHL's bath & body products - shampoo, conditioner, body wash, creme de corp moisturizers. Love that the club is in pristine condition, there are always staff cleaning constantly. TIP: If you are thinking of joining, best way to get the best rate is to go thru a current member. My advisor who I have known for over 10 years is the best, he is upfront, honest, not pushy and will get you the best deal. I had a fantastic Thai Yoga session with Evans Resilien at the Equinox in Great Neck, NY. He offered to try it on me and it was so therapeutic and made me feel so much better. He stretched me every which way and it was just what I needed to loosen up my muscles and body. I am all aches and pains since I was in a rollover car accident last year. I highly recommend Evans for a massage and/or one f the Thai Yoga sessions. He is easy to be with and has a great touch. JH read more

Knowing I needed to continue to train as a way to not only stay in shape but keep positive, I found the Great Neck Equinox online which has everything a triathlete needs when the unexpected strikes as it did for our family. After two visits, I have to say the facility and front desk staff are exceptional. I was a member of Sports Club LA in West LA which was taken over by Equinox a few years back. It was the BEST club I had ever joined. When the takeover happened, we were a little taken back, but then I LOVED Equinox. I recently moved to NY and was interested in joining again, but some friends told me that I would love LA Fitness (they obviously do not know my taste preference). I joined and went once. Well, luckily, for me, I met with Elyse at the Great Neck Equinox. She was so sweet and so helpful. I joined right on the spot and I will tell you I am so excited to be back at the gym and part of the Equinox family again. I can not wait to attain my winter goals and Equinox motivates me!!!
