I used this bakery for the first time ever 2 weeks ago. I needed a very specific cake, and I knew my regular bakery would not be able to pull it off. I read the reviews, saw the pictures, and took a chance with Sorella's. I could not have been more impressed!! I dealt with Monica- she was quick to respond and very friendly and easy to work with. The cake was EXACTLY how I wanted it to look and it tasted fantastic!! I will 1000% use them again and I completely recommend them. They're not inexpensive- but you absolutely get what you pay for. They outdid themselves with my cake! The cake with the little bees on it was what I showed them I wanted, the cake without the bees is what they made for me (I told them not to include the bees, that was my choice). I think the pictures speak for themselves. read more

When you need a special cake for your special day- be it a birthday, wedding or other, check out Sorella's Cake studio. My mom was turning 95 and we were having a big party to celebrate this milestone. Being I live out of town, I turned to Yelp to see who I should contact about getting this cake made. I love the level of service that Sorella's gives to each customer. I stopped in when I was in town to talk through the details of my event and to determine the perfect cake. While I knew a little about what I wanted (buttercream and vanilla cake) they asked about layers and colors and a range of things that made the perfect cake. And they assured me it would be ready on time for pickup and it was! Know that they need at least a couple of weeks as all of their cakes are customized so don't wander in the day of your event and expect to get a cake. And what was even more special was the look on my mom's face when she saw the cake and we all gathered around her to sing, "Happy Birthday". The moment was priceless. The cake was delicious and that frosting? Be still my frosting loving heart! You can bet the next time I need a cake made in the Detroit area, that Sorella's will be my go to spot! read more

So let me start by saying, you pay a ridiculous amount of money for their cakes, I was "very detailed" about what I wanted because I had (3) other places that were willing to make this cake for me. After visiting the store, showing photos, and giving explicit details, they assured me they could do exactly what I asked for. Come the day of the event...the cake was NOTHING that I ordered! They chose to completely ignore anything I asked for! Beware!! Just a note of extreme caution! Owner Monica is extremely rude, and I would caution anyone who is looking for anything specific! They gladly take your money and don't produce anything you ask for! It's a terrible shame this is the memory of our event. We had a very specific theme and they provided nothing even close to what I asked and paid big money for! read more

Great company to work with. They delivered the cake on time. Plus my guests could not saying how much they enjoyed the cake.

We've been coming to Sorella's for most of my life, and when it came time for my wedding cake, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. It was very easy to set up an appointment to meet with one of their wedding cake consultants. He asked the basic wedding questions as well as pictures from Pinterest or anything else he could use for inspiration. They absolutely captured what we were looking for in a wedding cake. Their tasting selections were easy to set up as well. We were able to get a good variety to see what we liked. They set it up so that you take it home and eat it whenever you'd like. It worked really well for us. We would also occassionally have a question or two leading up to the wedding, and they always responded to our questions promptly. We opted to pick up the cake ourselves for the wedding, and they made it quick, easy, and safe for us to do on our own. For context, we had our small two-tier wedding cake and 150 cupcakes. They were all securely packed, and we didn't have any trouble. Also, did I not mention that the cupcakes and cake were DELICIOUS? Because they were. We got a lot of compliments from a variety of our guests and couldn't be happier with our experience. On the plus side, they give you a free six inch cake on your 1 year wedding anniversary. Honestly, having a cake frozen and taking up freezer space wasn't super appealing to us, so we like this option much much better. read more

I recently got married and we bought our cake from here and they gave us such great service! They have such a big variety of flavors and they let you have a cake tasting to see what flavor you want for an event. They also have a meeting with you to help plan what you are going to do. The store is very cute and the staff is very helpful. Our cake was beautiful and tasted great on our wedding day. I would recommend this place to everyone I know! read more

Very disappointed in the quality of the cupcakes I received for my engagement party. My mother asked for Tiffany blue and sent an inspiration picture for clarity. Not only did we receive Cookie Monster blue instead of Tiffany, but multiple of the cupcakes were decorated with someone's terrible handwriting (see picture). The craftsmanship was horrible. I cannot believe they handed these to a paying customer. I called the bakery to let them know of my disappointment and I was told I'd likely get a refund and then I received a call that it would just be store credit. I said that wouldn't work because I won't be a customer again and so we settled on a check to be reimbursed for some of the payment. I believe a full refund is necessary to make up for their lack of professional cake decorating skills. Very unfortunate this was the only dessert at my engagement party. I do not recommend Sorella's. read more

I would highly recommend Sorella's cakes if you're looking for a baker! My husband and I did a gender reveal cake and we're SO impressed. The blue cake batter was very vibrant, but they added enough icing so you couldn't see the cake color before cutting in to it. The cake was delicious and very moist, and the pricing was very fair! We ordered a 10" cake and it was plenty - about 15 people ate it and we still left with half of it. If you're looking for a gender reveal cake baker, look no further! read more

10/10!!! We'll NEVER go to a different cake place EVER. For anything we ever need desserts/treats/cakes for!! My wife and I were on a search for a cake place. We were set to get married this past August and checked everything off the list except the cake. We spent a whole night googling place after place. We first tried a local place very close to our home that was horrible to us. As I mentioned, we are lesbians (myself masculine presenting and my wife feminine) and let's just say.. That place wasn't a fan of our community (very blatantly rude and mean/demeaning to us) and definitely did not pass the vibe check. It was literally the worst experience ever. Sorella's was totally different!!! We found them on a google search and saw that they were close and decided to try one more place before just giving up and going to Costco or Kroger. Boy are we glad we didn't quit!! We were welcomed immediately. The vibes were super warm and very comforting. We were a bit antsy due to the bad experience a couple days before, but when we pulled up and saw the LGBT flag in the window we were excited and all that anguish went out the window!! The first person we met I believe his name is Jason, (the nephew of the owner) omg what a sweetheart!! He was so patient with us! We were so excited but had not one clue about the idea we wanted or anything aside from pictures we literally googled hours before our appointment. He was so helpful in breaking everything down for us! Monica's amazing! A whole vibe!! Very laid-back, super easy going. Made the process super smooth and very fun with her dope personality. All three of use laughed all during our appointment. The delivery was great! The cake arrived in pristine condition on our special day. They set everything up for us. The communication was great. The response to emails was timely and they provided full details about what's required to moved forward and keep things on track. Very organized and thorough with everything from detail gathering to the in-person consultation/discussion and it all centers around your personal wants/needs. The cake!! MAN!! I don't even have words... PERFECT. Seriously. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. The buttercream icing, the vanilla mousse, the yellow cake! Mouthwatering!! Love at first scoop; the cake tasting sent us over the edge lol. We were completely sold after that (as if everything else wasn't great)! It literally melts in your mouth. They even matched the paisley design on my vest! The place is owned by two sisters and it definitely exudes that family ambience. We never once felt pressured about spending money, cheated or anything. They were honest/genuine with us the entire time. We made our appointment about 4 weeks out and they did the dang on thang! Thank you Sorella's!! And we appreciated our card in the mail. :) :) read more

Sorellas was amazing from the get go, we had another bakery refuse to let us do clear spacers with fairy lights. Sorellas was on board from call one! From the groom and I's hometown of Livonia, mi. I highly doubt we will ever go anywhere else for our cakes. Our guests raved about how good it was, some went back for thirds! Lemon cake with raspberry filling and lemon curd... delicious! The bakers placed the flowers from the florist perfectly! Our guests thought it was not only delicious but stunning! I can't say enough good things about Sorella's! Monica and her staff were so lovely and easy to work with to create our wedding cake. We got just the look we wanted and a member of the staff even arranged the flowers and decor upon delivery. We got SO many compliments on the taste of the cake. We ordered the strawberry cake with cream cheese filling and even those who don't normally love strawberry loved the cake. We didn't even have leftovers! It's wonderful when expectations meet reality. It's a rarity. We had a lovely experience with a cake tasting and everyone there was welcoming and helpful. That speaks for itself. We will be getting our cake there and can't wait to share it with our friends and family. read more

Livonia, MI: We worked with Evan to plan the cake for our wedding from the tasting to the cake design to the "BIG DAY". It's funny, as with all the planning we did for our wedding, I have to say I was most pleased with the cake! First of all, Evan was very organized and created a folder for us the first day we came in, so he could capture our preferences. Then, when we came in to finalize the details, he pulled out our folder, carefully documented everything, and he was very knowledgeable about options and cost. We told him what we wanted, and he created something so beautiful, and I was so happy with how the cake looked AND it tasted WONDERFUL!!!! The professionalism, the organization, the experience, the cake design, and quality taste were all a wonderful experience. I also love how they bake you a special cake for your one-year anniversary so you don't have to worry about saving a freezer burned top layer! Thank you, Evan, and thank you Sorella's! Wish I had a piece of that cake right now! read more

Ordered a custom cake for my dad's 80th birthday! John was a wonderful person to work with - he helped advise on what options would work best, and even added something special to the decor that my dad loved! I ended up ordering an 8" banana-walnut cake with buttercream frosting, and it was divine. The batter was very moist, frosting not too sweet, and the portion substantial. Ended up having the cake for a few days, and the flavor held up in the refrigerator. Not to mention the price was reasonable - great value. I highly recommend this bakery, and I look forward to working with John and the team for other events and occasions! Thank you. read more

Sorella's is a great bakery that I found via a discount voucher. I initially went because of the voucher, but have returned over and over again because of the consistently delicious baked goods. I have purchased a couple of cakes from the display case. They come in two sizes: 8" and 10". Pricing is reasonable at $20 and $30 respectively. The buttercream icing is sweet and rich in flavor. My favorite is vanilla cake with vanilla icing. I've tried the sinfully chocolate virai bites and individual cakes (just enough for 1-2 people to eat). It is more of a milk chocolate taste and includes a moist chocolate cake with chocolate cream. They are big for weddings as each time I've come in a bride is selecting a cake. Maybe one day I'll be that lady getting ready for the big day. In the mean time, I pick up a cake when the craving comes. They do custom cakes also. I needed a birthday cake and showed them a picture of what I wanted. They were able to complete the cake and had the fondant that I wanted. The cake was a hit at the party. The cake required to be refrigerated (the icing would melt in the heat). Overall, I am a fan of this bakery. TIP: Come with cash. They accept credit and debit cards, but they assess a small fee to cover the charges they get on the back end. I don't find that to be a big deal and still support this small business for baked goods. read more

What a wonderful bakery! My now-husband and I got our wedding cake there, and as you can see in the photo I uploaded, it was beautiful! They really made our teal and orange colors pop. It was also delicious -- and though they have a sign in the store saying "Good cake isn't cheap / cheap cake isn't good" in the store, it *was* quite affordable, at least as wedding cakes go. My sister got her wedding cake from a bakery that marketed itself in a much more upscale way, but our cake was every bit as delicious and beautiful. So moist! So flavorful! People loved it and ate it up. Because our cake was set to serve precisely the number of guests we'd have, we decided to get a bumpy cake to go along with it. (We had a lot of out-of-town guests who had never heard of bumpy cake before and had been intrigued.) Here I can only report that those who got to it before me and demolished it said it was delicious. As for the wedding cake itself, as the groom had a wheat allergy, we ordered one layer with gluten free chocolate (and peanut butter mousse). He wasn't expecting much, so he was pleasantly surprised that it tasted so great, as were the guests who didn't have to eat GF but wanted the chocolate/peanut butter. (Our other two layers were cherry chip with Bavarian cream and vanilla chiffon with white mint mousse. All fantastic!) To top it off, Monica and Bertha and everyone there were kind and easy to work with. I live out of town and arranged a wedding in my hometown of Detroit remotely, and they made it easy for me. I highly recommend Sorella's. My family will be going back for future birthday parties and other special events. read more

Hi my name is Kristin and I'm a dessert snob. My husband and I were thrilled to find out we were expecting and wanted to do a gender reveal cake to reveal the gender to my family. SO after seeing the GLOWING reviews as any sweet lover would do, I decided to check this place out. The owner was very lovely to speak with, and she was just as excited as I was about the arrival of our little one which made the experience that more fun. After discussing some options with her I decided to go with a chocolate cake with a colored buttercream frosting (depending on boy or girl) with pink, blue, and yellow question marks on the outside of the cake. We LOVED the cake! It was so cool to reveal to the family that we were having a little girl through the deliciousness of cake. They also have these crazy addictive deserts called 'little bites': fudgey chocolate cake, topped with chocolate mousse, covered in a chocolate shell, with a dollop of buttercream on top. OMG. To die for. ALSO word on the street is that they have happy hour on Saturday an hour before they close where desserts are HALF OFF. Say what?!?! read more
