As someone who tried hundreds of bubble tea in more than a dozen states and 10 countries, including Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore, this shop by far had the worst boba drinks, especially the fruit teas. I took about 2-3 sips of the Passionfruit Tea ($5.75) and requested to change my drink to a plain coffee because the tea had an aftertaste of beetle nuts, but I was denied. This is very uncommon. My sisters had the Winter Melon Lime Tea - which tasted like expired bitter black tea - and the Kumquat Green Tea - which was so gross that I had to spit it out after I took a single sip; I can't even explain the flavor. I wasted $27 here. I expected quality due to the high prices and the positive ratings people gave this place on Yelp. Maybe the ratings were mainly referring to the pastries, which we did not try. I'm rating this shop on their fruit teas, and I highly do not recommend ordering drinks from here. Please note that the space is also small and there are minimal stools to sit on.
Come around noon for the best selection, but order ahead if you don't want to wait in line. My daughter likes the pig shaped bread the best, their bubble tea is hit or miss.

I liked the chocolate melon, chocolate croissant, egg tart, moose with blueberry cream cheese, piggy bun with strawberry filling, and almond rock. The cream cheese bun, Doraemon, and cream pan are my favorites. I did not love the taro bun, crab bun with chocolate cream filling, or melon pan (ok but bland/plain.)
Such a cute, small pastry shop in Novi. It is in a plaza that isn't too busy so parking will never be an issue. The good stuff run out kind of fast so that's a bummer...be sure to go right when they open or at least before 1pm! Pastries taste pretty good, I like the ones with sausage and cheese in them. They also have this bread filled with noodles which was an interesting taste and experience. Probably won't get it again but it was a good try lol. Didn't give 5 stars as the pastry selection isn't a lot & the good ones go fast. But the cute Anpanman bread is a winner from my toddler.
I visited this place twice now and have enjoyed coming here for their nice selection of freshly made pastries, bubble teas and desserts! It's in a strip mall called McLaughlin center and located on grand river road. I ended up trying the coconut and almond bread roll (so good), you could really taste the coconut and almond flavor and this was delicious. I also like their twist donut which is simply a donut with sugar on top but I like how light the bread was! I also got a custard vanilla roll and a chocolate chip roll. I feel like I'd have preferred the chocolate chip roll to have mini chips in it versus full size but it was still good. I also tried the taro tea here which comes in a good size portion and enjoyed it! I'm not sure why the negative reviews, I'm an occasional bubble tea drinker and liked the tea I got. There is very limited seating inside so this is not the best place to sit at unfortunately so knocking off a star plus this place is closed during some weekdays so make sure they are open before you head over. Would love to see outside seating added to be able to enjoy this place more!
Moose Pastry & Tea is the only Japanese-style bakery* in Metro Detroit that serves many of the classic buns you'd typically find in Japan. I believe the owners are actually Taiwanese and you can see a bit of Taiwanese influence - for example, there's a bit more egg wash on some of the buns, and they also offer almond cookies and taro buns. In any case, everything is always consistently delicious. We always stop by when we're in the area. On the last trip, we bought: Taro Mochi Bun ($2.80) - This has some very lightly sweetened taro paste on top of a small mochi disk in a fluffy bun topped with almonds. Wish there was a bit more mochi inside! QQ Machi ($2.85) - This might be a special bake? It was on a hand written sign. Probably my favorite item I've bought at Moose - chewy mochi-like texture throughout with chocolate chips studded in and a bit of a bitter grassy taste from matcha powder. Curry Pan ($2.70) - Not a lot of filling, quite mild curry with vegetables. Be sure to toast this one - it improves the crust tremendously. Black Milk Tea, Large, Half Sugar ($5) - The tea taste really comes through in this drink, with a bit of a tart astringency from the black tea. Half sweet is good. Moose really fills the drink to the brim without ice as filler - I got regular ice and when I received the drink, there were no ice chunks at all. The boba is just slightly firmer than I prefer, but good overall. I definitely recommend stopping by to pick up some bread. *There is technically another bakery in Clawson that has Japanese-style baked goods, but the focus and offerings there are decidedly different.
They sell out quick most days but if you can get there you'll have a great selection of delicious, fluffy buns filled with a myriad of delights like red beans, custard, cream, , coconut, fruits like strawberry and melon, matcha, etc. Plus savories like garlic bacon, hot dogs, seaweed pork, etc. And they're all SO beautiful. The animal shaped ones are particularly fun (kids will love them!). They also have amazing cream cakes. My favorites being the strawberry cream and chocolate. And the eclairs are also excellent! I haven't tried them but they do offer bubble teas in a bunch of flavors (fruit and milk teas), tea lattes, and a few espresso based drinks like lattes. Not a place to sit and stay but for carryout it's perfect!
Pretty popular Japanese bakery in Novi. Probably the only bakery in Novi now I am thinking about it. I think the bread/bun is mid. Not that special. They do have a lot of varieties but I think the texture can be softer. Nothing that really memorable to write about.
The third time's the charm. I had wanted to try the Japanese-styled buns from this shop these last two years. The first time, during the pandemic, the shop was only open for pick-up with orders placed online. However, I was unfamiliar with the menu and the short descriptions were insufficient. The second time, most items were sold out - they were only serving beverages. So this third time, both buns, pastries, and beverages were available. The previous bakery, Happy Hippo, arranged their items on trays and customers served themselves. At Moose Pastry, the items were also arranged on trays, but in plastic bags for quick grab-and-go. I picked a sugar-coated twist doughnut, a bun studded with red-wine-soaked raisins, and two other buns. All of them were lightly sweetened and incredibly soft. I enjoyed them and the boba tea, one of the many varieties offered, that I purchased. Service was efficient.
A nice bakery and tea shop in Novi. If you drive by you'll probably miss it as it's tucked away in a strip mall. You'll have to order online and pick up your items due to the pandemic, but that has which makes things quicker. I like to try to the mango mousse cake whenever it's available and it's delicious + who doesn't like mango! I want to try out more teas but my go to is the Oolong milk tea! I feel as though it's not for everyone, but it tastes delicious to me and they make it just right! The Taro tea is a great one as well. The parking lot is huge and it never seems too busy so you should be able to hop right in and out! Great spot!
Delicious freshly made buns. I got the Takoyaki bun, which has the consistency of a warm Hawaiian roll and a sweet and savory taste. Super tasty, 9/10. I also got a sweet roll, a matcha red bean bun. It was the perfect balance of sweetness, not overwhelming sweet. Light on the matcha flavor. Again served on the luscious Hawaiian roll consistency. 10/10. The service was fast and friendly, and the inside had a nice seating area to enjoy the rolls. Fairly laidback environment, would highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area! Best Asian bakery nearby
Feeling very lucky to have this gem near our home. The line looks long but it goes quick. The staff is fast but patient explaining what all the goodies are. Their teas are the best in town hands down. Would highly recommend you stop by this place after grabbing lunch at Ajishin in the same plaza.
Stopped here on a Friday about an hour after they opened I knew better then to come late. Places like this the good stuff goes quick! I love that they have sanitizer right before you walk in to grab a tray. After much debate of buying one of everything I choose, Hokkaido cheese bun, matcha red bean bun, honey walnut bun, doraemon, and a curry bread. Everything was delicious, I need more of the Hokkaido cheese buns tho it's so so light and yummy! For all of these it came to $15 and some change!
Reviews are largely positive. People enjoy the fresh pastries, creative flavors, and popular bubble tea. Service is described as friendly.

We come here every Saturday for pastries. Delicious! I went yesterday for a birthday cake for my wife. Best cake I have ever gotten her, her words not mine. Frosting, cake, everything was amazing. read more
More of a bubble tea spot. Got an latte with oat milk and an extra shot of espresso, since the medium to go cup comes with only one shot. It was just okay. Grabbed a chocolate croissant, custard danish, garlic cheese bacon bun and a garlic hotdog. The chocolate croissant had two sides dipped in chocolate and the filling is a chocolate mousse, it's different. The croissant is much heavier and more dense than I like. Cost less than $25 The custard danish is quite strange. The custard isn't smooth, more of a ricotta texture and feel. The danish is rather heavy to me. Not so yummy to me. The garlic cheese and bacon bun is an open sandwich and is extremely greasy. The almond cookies are okay. The garlic hotdog is what it says, it's so-so. Been coming here for years and recently it has seemed to grown better. Their boba might be my favorite on this side of town now. Their fresh sliced bread is always a plus to have also. They have great Japanese pastries that's everyone will love. The staffing is also very nice. This is a nice small piece of heaven tucked away in Novi, MI. Come here for a treat and nice drink. Very traditional and authentic. But also very affordable. read more

What a cute bakery. I didn't go inside or anything but they're baked goods are delicious and a bit below average cost for these kind of baked goods. Their online system is awesome. They keep it updated very well! I've heard about thing bakery for a long time. I'm just never in the area. It's so good! They have cut buns with animal faces and such. I can't wait to try more buns in the future. Their boba tea cups are so cute. I got the tiger milk tea and I thought it was simple. It was alright. I'm used to the boba made with muscavado sugar. But these were basic tapioca balls With a brown sugar swirl and milk. I don't think there is any caffeine in it. Which is fine with me. Not my favorite place for boba tea. Better places around the area for that. But can't wait to go back! read more

Two words: Cheese Tea!! Moose Pastry & Tea has the best cheese tea in metro Detroit. It's called macchiato on the menu, but it is the same creamy and salty foam you would expect from cheese tea. I have tried cheese tea at several other cafés, but Moose Pastry & Tea has the real deal that you won't find anywhere else. Sometimes they run out of the cheese tea because it is so popular. In addition to cheese tea, Moose Pastry & Tea also has tasty fruit tea and, of course, pastries. I have only tried the An Butter Bread and enjoyed the savory saltiness of the butter with the slight sweetness of the red bean. My mother was a fan of the An Butter Bread, too. Service is friendly and accommodating considering how popular it is. On the weekends it isn't unusual to find long lines of people packed in this tiny shop to buy its pastries, sandwiches, and other baked goods. I do not live anywhere near Novi, but I find myself going out of my way to patron this business whenever I have a craving for authentic Asian café drinks and pastries. read more

As someone passing through the area from the Bay Area of California, I was really happy to discover this hidden gem. Not only are their pastries delicious and truly authentic Taiwanese pastries and flavors as well as Japanese pastries. Thank you Rita for the wonderful experience and talk! The customer service is amazing, the pastries are delicious, their boba is also good too! The flavors are legit, they aren't overly sweet like you'd find in a lot of places in California. It was a delightful experience running into another Taiwanese person and Taiwanese bakery in Michigan. The owner is a very kind lady so please don't give them a hard time. Moose Pastry is a small and independently owned business so please support them if you can! They work very hard to do what they do in addition to their pastries and teas being wonderful. read more
If you love Japanese pastries and milk tea drinks you are going to love Moose Pastry and Tea! They have excellent milk teas with boba and you can also pick up a loaf of milk bread and a wide selection of little stuffed savory or sweet bread. My favorites are the sausage rolls and the curry rolls! Come check it out! read more
They have a decent variety of sweet and savory breads as well as cake. You can order a whole cake ahead of time via their online order form. I got the fruit custard. Cake was a tad dry and the shape a little uneven however had a nice flavor and wasn't overly sweet. read more

Place: This place used to be called hippo bakery and they recently changed it to moose. I heard the management change and they also added bubble so I wanted to see the changes for myself. Service: The service is good and it is really popular. It has a more cafe vibe now and there are not many options near the evening time. I had limited options so I would go earlier in the day. The service is still pretty good, Food/price: Usually there are many options and I usually get the turtle looking moose filling and the red bean filling hopang man! (childhood bakery goods) Audience: A lot of people stop usually when they are waiting for ajishin because they are close by. Recommend/tips? I would want to come next time earlier in the day and maybe try the bubble too! read more
Very nice place! Friendly staff well organized and clean. I ordered a Christmas cake (Strawberry shortcake) and it was delicious!! Will definitely order again. Also I bought some of their special character like filled buns. I wish this place was a little closer to where I live but it's well worth the trip there! This place was nice, seemed to be more of a grab 'n go type place than a sit down place. very clean area and it smelled delicious. The only disappointment was the the lack of meat and veggie options there were. There were many options but a lot of the buns had ham. I wish there were other options. The seating area is also pretty limited, seems to be more of place where you pick up and leave. Bubble tea was alright, I do want to try out another flavor. I am reconsidering visiting again and giving it another shit. read more
I'm writing this review after having been here twice (they are take out only at the moment). This is a solid boba tea place with great bakery items, but currently seems to have limited options. I got jasmine green tea both times with boba. Their boba is excellent - the right amount of sweet and chewy. I didn't see the usual fruit flavored green tea options that I normally see at other boba tea places, but again may just be a limited menu due to the pandemic. The baked goods I tried were the honey walnut bread and the coconut bread, both of which were tasty, though the coconut bread was a tad too sweet for my taste. I can't comment on the inside because it's all curbside at the moment. I look forward to trying more of their baked goods but do wish there were more options for the tea. read more
Absolutely fabulous! The softness of the bread is just sublime. We ordered red bean buns, a raisin & nut bun, a bun that had half chocolate/half cream filling, and even a TAKOYAKI bun! I had no idea such a thing existed! Note: Takoyaki is octopus, so it definitely had that real octopus sort of funk. All the bread had a beautiful shine to the top, and it's obvious that whomever is doing the baking is highly skilled and really cares about their product! DELICIOUS! When you enter, be prepared to take a tray to a few different stations to pick your choices, like in a cafeteria. We'll definitely be back! read more

too hype reviews. not my fave. matcha tea was too bland, yet the black pearls were soft and chewy. taro and the shredded pork bun was to plain for my palate. end up spending $30 for two milk teas and few pieces of bread. not worth the wait. service was terrible. the crew members inside were seating down while staring at us. after standing outside for a long time in a cold rainy day, one or two of them decided to open the door and gave instructions. the interaction was so quick that they would go back inside without me finishing instructions on how i would like my drink. anyways, the buns from 168 asian mart and taipan bakery are almost similar in taste but less the price and hassle of ordering. read more
We were very sad to see a Hippo go, we had been customers for years, but extremely excited to see Moose has taken over in its place. We were told many of the same staff has stayed on to produce their delicious variety of baked goods. They also added an interesting tea and coffee menu. Upon arrival the selection appeared sparse compared to Hippo, but I was informed that many batches of goodies are made throughout the day and are put out once they are ready. The business is opened until seven in the evening, and they assured me product will be refilled up until that time. And, it did appear that trays were on deck inside in the kitchen to keep the Yumminess coming. We selected a few pastries to start. We had the Doraemon, a vanilla custard filled bread, the fried hotdog, mini sausage with ketchup, fried curry vegetarian potato bun, and a matcha green tea chocolate chip bun. They were all delicious. I took them home for the family and everyone is eager to try more. I really hope Moose finds success here because we look forward to coming back. Next time I'm also eager to try their tea, the pictures look amazing. read more
I had to think about the rating on this place for a long time, wavering between 3 and 4 stars. I'm definitely happy that there's another Japanese bakery that took over after Pastry Hippo closed down. I've visited twice so far and have gotten a decent sampling of their menu: coconut bun, French cream, strawberry shortcake, strawberry polo bun, corn mayo bun, and bacon garlic bun. As a general statement, the bread is really good: it's got great texture and flavor. The French cream is by far the best thing I've had there. It was a little baguette filled with light and sweet buttercream. The baguette was as good as any I've gotten from other bakeries. It had a buttery, savory crust and tasted very fresh. The weakest were the corn mayo bun and the strawberry shortcake. I know at a lot of Chinese bakeries they have mayo/green onion/ham buns, which has a bit of each in it - there is enough mayo to provide some tanginess and creaminess. Here, I opened up the bun and it was completely stuffed with mayo and corn. While stuffing a bun with a custard or light buttercream works, stuffing one full of mayo does not...I felt gross having a mouthful of mayo and ended up discarding most of it. As for the strawberry shortcake, I found the cake to be kind of dry, crumbly, and just overall mediocre. This was disappointing, since the cake from Pastry Hippo was always so moist and flavorful. It's also over $3 per slice of cake - overpriced. The rest of the buns were decent and tasty, but nothing that I would really crave. Everything is priced a little high, but not outrageously. There are a couple more there that I'd be interested in trying, and I'd always be up for getting another French cream. That French cream pushes this place from 3 to 3.5 stars, and I'm going to round up. read more
These pastries are so cute and delicious! I love that these are not overly sweet. The moose is filled with a thin layer of blueberry cream cheese. The hot dog has a baked on drizzle of ketchup(?) on top that just works! The custard filled pastry is the perfect flavor and texture that reminds me of an egg custard. I was excited to see an Asian bakery in Michigan where you'd grab a tray and a pair of tongs and get whatever and however many buns you wanted. And they also had boba drinks. First of all, although the buns might look or sound Japanese, since the owners spoke Mandarin when I was there, I'd wanna say this bakery might be run by Chinese. But regardless, their buns were really nice, they reminded me a lot of the Taiwanese bakery called 85 Degrees. I tried their matcha chocolate polo bread, which had a pretty strong good matcha flavor but the size was super small. I also tried their crab-shaped chocolate custard bun, which was bigger than the matcha one and had a nice filling. We also tried the cashier-recommended Oolong milk tea with boba. The tea flavor was there, which was good, but I got no milkiness or creaminess at all in my drink and I really would like my drink to be richer and creamier. The boba itself was pleasantly soft and sweet. Overall it was pretty good, but the price was kinda high especially with the size of buns they were selling. I also appreciated a box for my buns especially when I bought quite a lot yesterday; a box would make a much better impression than if they stuffed my buns into a plastic bag. read more
