They said they could fix them, and because of how unacceptable the original cupcakes were, I had no choice but to wait. It would have been absolutely unacceptable to show up to the event with what they originally presented me with. Because of this, I was late to the party that I was responsible for setting up. Once they were fixed, they had to rush to do the best work they could in the short amount of time they had. I appreciate that they tried to make things right, but I can't help but feel that the final result could have looked so much better if my original order had been followed in the first place and they hadn't been forced to rush. We were finally ready to hurry to the event, but thankfully, I checked the 4" cake that came with the bundle before leaving. I had specifically asked for it to say "engaged," only to find that it said "engaded." So, I had to wait even longer and was even more late to the event. I was told that the owner would reach out to me to resolve the situation and address the experience I had, but I have now been left on read for going on two weeks. After spending over $500, I expected much better communication, attention to detail, and customer service. I understand that mistakes happen, but I believe it's how a business handles those mistakes afterward that truly matters. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting to hear from the owner. In some of them, the filling ran down the side to make a chewy, caramel texture that adds another layer of depth to the pastry. As for the scones, they're soft and at a perfect sweetness level. There's ribbons of icing that graces the top, and has hardened so that you get a little crunch as you're eating it. The store owner was very helpful and let us know that she makes pastry gift baskets and that they can ship anywhere to the US and even some international countries. I haven't tried any other bakeries in Dearborn, but I can tell you that my experience here was fantastic. Customer service and friendliness were beyond excellent; but be sure to pack your patience at peak times because this spot was slammed. You take a number when you walk in, and then wait, and wait, and wait for it to be your turn. This isn't for lack of staff, because there were at least a dozen people working behind the counter, it's just because they were packed with customers! The selections are overwhelming and since it was my first visit, I needed help. The young lady who helped me was very patient, told me about the differences in their specialized Arabic pastries, showed me her favorites, customer favorites, and descriptions for anything I asked about. I went with a small sampler tray of her favorite specialized pastries and their best sellers. Everything was delicious! Flavors, textures, uniqueness, complexity...all of it. My whole family raved about all the treats, so we ended up going back later in the weekend and purchasing a couple larger trays of our favorites (and some new selections) to take home and share. We all agreed that the Qatayef was easily our favorite; for anyone who doesn't know, it is a small pancake filled with custard, fresh chopped strawberries, chopped pistachios, and drizzled with chocolate...fresh, bright, and mouthwateringly delicious. The only negative I experienced was that when I visited around 10am on Sunday to load up for our trip home, their selections were very limited, and I was told I'd need to come back after 3pm to get some of the things I was looking for. So, I would recommend calling ahead to see if they have a full selection before you go, if you don't live nearby. Ultimately, if you haven't tried Dearborn Sweets, I'd highly recommend giving them a shot. They have tons of middle eastern specialties as well as traditional bakery favorites (such as cannoli, fruit tarts, filled donuts, cakes, etc.).

This pre-Paczki day weekend, we decided to try out and compare three different paczki bakeries…read more Bartz was second on our list. We hadn't been before, but it seemed like a Dearborn staple and a good place to get classic, old school paczki. When we stopped by on Saturday morning, there were a number of customers just lounging at the tables, sipping at coffee and nibbling on pastries. Seemed pretty promising! Service here was super friendly and quick, and we decided on getting a couple of different flavors. Paczki ($3.33 Each) - We got three flavors, the traditional prune, chocolate, and buttercream. I hadn't had prune filling before so I had to at least try it out. The prune comes in quite a thick jam and the prune taste was very strong. I guess if you like prune, you will like this? For me - let's just say there's a reason I avoided getting prune for this long haha. For the other two paczki, the chocolate filling tasted and felt like those Snack Pack chocolate pudding cups. The buttercream was less of a dense and stiff buttercream and more like light whipped frosting with a heavy powdered sugar/frosting taste. To be honest, I didn't really like any of the fillings here. The paczki were glazed like donuts and the texture and mouthfeel was very similar to that of a donut: light and airy, with uneven bubbles in the crumb. The fillings easily displaced/compressed the dough. It was not nearly as light as, say, a Krispy Kreme or commercial donut; instead, it was similar to a good quality home made yeast donut. To be clear - I could definitely tell it was not a donut - the crumb structure held together better and it had a bit more of a chew. It's just that out of the three bakeries I tried, this one was by far the most donut-like. I wish I had bought an actual donut from Bartz for a comparison! I personally would not get the paczki again from Bartz. They tasted good enough, but I don't think there's enough to differentiate them from a normal filled donut. I would, however, possibly go again to pick up other treats in the future. Of the three paczki bakeries we visited, Bartz had the most homey, classic vibe. Just your everyday neighborhood bakery slinging out yummy pastries and bread. It's not a place you go out of the way for, but it's somewhere for locals and people who happen to visit the area.
