I am so bummed. I haven't been to this bakery in a long time. Every time I've been there it has been great....until today. The donuts taste like they were fried in old grease. They have that smell/taste! Not just one kind but each one of the ones I purchased. I hope this is just a fluke and also I heated the donut in the microwave because it was a bit hard, like it wasn't freshly made. I thought the donuts were made fresh every day. Also the nice lady with the dark hair had a runny nose. She wiped her nose a couple times and didn't wash her hands. I watched as she filled my order to make sure the drop on the end of her nose didn't drip into my donuts. I think when this happens the employee should wear a mask. She was coughing into her lower arm and I just wanted to walk out at one point. I am hopeful things will not be like today and may try it again but not sure. Super bummed. read more

INCREDIBLE baked goods: pasties are huge - 1/2 pie tin - and totally filled with great fillings like meat and veggies rather than usual dull stuffing. quiche, likewise, are almost two meals and just loaded with meat, veggies, cheese, etc. pastries: outstanding angel wings (krustiki) and the BEST paczki i've ever had - FAR better than from Hamtramck! i usually warn folks before they bite in that, if they're not careful, they'll wear some of the jam because they're SO filled. read more

One tasted like chemicals, the other tasted as if they used salt instead of sugar with the cinnamon. Whoa! I ordered a Banana cake with buttercream frosting, they added nutmeg or possibility cinnamon and someone who had a slice is allergic to nutmeg and immediately started to get a rash, my 86 year old friend went there to complain and they said they needed the cake so she went back a second time and spoke to the owner, they were rude and belittling to her and said it was 100% banana which everyone at the party said it wasn't, she was trying to get 1/2 the money back but was sternly told NO WAY , she left there very upset and down $50 and an inedible cake Please avoid read more

I have visited Heritage Bakery on many occasions and have always been satisfied. Last week my daughter became engaged on her fiancé's birthday. I planned an impromptu small dinner party and decide that I was going to get a really good chocolate cake. Where else to go but Heritage Bakery? I spent almost $60 on a Black Forest cake. I asked about the cake and saw no reason not to get it. I served it after dinner that night. I took the cake out 45 minutes before serving. The cake was a total disappointment. It had a "refrigerated" taste and was not good. Of the 8 pieces served, not one person finished their cake. The consensus was that it was "okay" and that was my guests being polite. I called the bakery the next day. I was totally polite and expressed my disappointment. The woman that I spoke to said that she would pass along my name and phone number to the owner. I never received a call back. I was a small business owner and I know the importance of customer service. The least they could have done was call me back. I wasn't looking for another cake or even a free donut. But a call back would have gone a long way with me. Poor customer service. I won't be going back again. I have other options. read more

My cousin's wedding cake arrived to her reception lopsided and melting. Many excuses from the staff that delivered it but cake was unable to be fixed and displayed as promised so the cake table had an average nondescript sheet cake instead. Finally found a bakery with the combinations of value, quality and selection. Bought 3 donuts; glazed, raspberry and Bavarian cream. The raspberry was how raspberries should taste. The Bavarian cream was not the usual tasteless cream, but a rich homemade style. The counter personnel were helpful and courteous. read more

Good service nothing special, just like their bakery. I miss the old owners, I think they sold their company a couple years back. Heritage bakery isn't the same since. Yes things are expensive in this time but the prices increased so much since the original bakers were owners. The prices were reasonable for what you got. Maybe the old owners didn't leave behind the recipes or the new owners don't specialize in baking "well" because their stuff is dry, tasteless, too sweet or not sweet at all, depending on the dish. There's lots of bakery's in the area. I think the Livonia Italian bakery on 7 mile is better but hey, supporting local bakeries that could be hit or miss could be worth it too read more

The cakes are still fantastic but the Hallah bread is still dry. They gave me a free one because the first one was dry and hard but the one they gave me today as a replacement is also dry. However the cake I got today for my staff was so cute and moist. read more

08/24/2024: Heritage bakery is under new ownership. The new selections are not the same. Since writing my initial review I had become a regular. New owners did not have my favorite blueberry cake donuts. Also, the vibe was different. They weren't mean just not as warm. The donuts I did buy were just ok. I wish them well but, I probably won't be going back. Side note: To be fair my review is probably a little biased - there was no sign that said under new ownership. The decor and everything else was the same. As a regular I walked in expecting my favorite donuts - only to reach the counter and be let down. read more

Walked in the bakery with 3 women (one being the owner) standing behind the counter. No hello, nothing. I said hello, one replied back. The owner walked past my daughter and I saying in a rude tone, "excuse me." When checking out I put my debit card in the card reader to find out I was up-charged $2.50 for using a debit card. The owners response to me asking if she was charging more because I was using a debit card was "yes businesses are doing this now." Then next time let the customer know you are up-charging for using a Visa debit card. Most businesses are not up-charging for using a debit card, and if they are they have a sign on the register or counter letting people know before they put the card in the reader. I will never go in this bakery again and will not have a positive thing to say about the place. read more

Someone has told me they had the best donuts ever. Well I have to say they do! They have a wide variety and always fresh. The jelly stick is one of my favorites. They also have a large assortment of cookies, cakes and several other baked goods. I've also tried the quiche which they always have 2-3 different kinds and same with pasties! Both are amazing! Don't go there hungry because you'll want one of everything. I realized I never posted original review so I'm updating my post that should've already posted if that makes sense! I ordered a cake for my husbands birthday and I think I found the one thing that was not great. It was decorated beautifully but the cake was just ok. I stopped into heritage bakery on a whim looking for treats . Being addicted to sugar is hard . Bakery is filled with a ton of Italian cookies ( not my style), fresh made daily donuts ( the best donuts I've ever had by far) , and different brownies , pastries , cakes , cupcakes , breads . They have a big fridge of made to go cakes that are 1000x better tasting than any grocery store cake I've ever had . Ended up ordering a chocolate on chocolate bday cake with 0 instruction . We came here from a fair distance away to try the pretzels appearing on our Facebook thread ad nauseam. To our luck, there were no pretzels available. We asked the owner if it was possible to make some pretzels given the distance traveled, and while the owner explained why she couldn't do that, her niece told us we could go to the mall and get the pretzels instead. Instead of apologizing for their lack of inventory, we essentially were directed to Auntie Anne's. We came here to support a local business and instead were treated like mall rats. This is a great little bakery tucked in a small strip mall right on 5 mile Road. They have a variety of cookies, pastries, savory bites and donuts plus custom orders of course. You will not find a better donut than here. Trust me. Their cookies are delicious and they have a fairly large assortment to choose from. A long-term customer commented that this was a terrific bakery as he walked out the door. I carefully took in all the goodies before selecting a large and still-fresh honey-glazed doughnut, a yummy apple fritter with chunks of cinnamon apples and a classic Quiche Lorraine, from the variety available. While I enjoyed the sweet treats, when heated later on, the quiche was just okay. Instead of rich, savory, creamy custard, the egg mixture was a bit tough.
