They specialize in wedding cakes or birthdays or graduations or anniversaries! Need to book in advance if you need a certain amount for sure. You won't be disappointed! They have more on Friday's and Saturdays. If you come on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, get frozen cheese cake or teramis! They need to be defrosted for 10-20 min but they are soooo good. Try some! read more

The owner makes signature chest nut cake (mont blanc) only with autumn's fresh chestnut It is one of the best in all the places I ever tasted, such as the original one at the Cafe Angelina in Paris, France! We have good fortune to enjoy Mont Blanc cake in places like Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka, Taipei, Honolulu--- I still believe Ms Takasaka' creation herein Commerce townships, Michigan is the best of all!! We in Oakland county's are really blessed to have such high quality patisserie. Don't know about any body else, I will be trekking back for more again as long as my diabetes allows me read more

If you want the best chocolate cake, or vanilla and strawberry cake, and don't like it too sweet, there is nothing like Japanese cake, and especially nothing like this place! It's my husband's absolute favorite. read more

Let me add my voice to the chorus of admiring fans of this bakery. We ordered the cake for my parents' 75th wedding anniversary (that was not a misprint) party here. The ordering was done completely over the phone where she guided us on all of our options. The marble cake with vanilla buttercream frosting was outstanding. Two months later, the guests are still talking about how wonderful the cake tasted and looked. I will order from here again. read more

A really nice small bakery in Commerce. I've driven past it several times and finally decided to check them out. They had quite a few desserts like cakes, cookies, cheesecakes to choose from. They don't have the worlds biggest selection so I'd go early in the day as it seems the run out of things often. It also seems as though they only sell certain desserts on specific days. I tried the Angel Fruit Pie, Cheesecake, Chocolate Cake & Strawberry Shortcake. Each item tasted really good, sweet, but not too sweet. It seems they're known for their specialized cakes as the owners seem to be able to make just about any request into a cake. All in all a decent bakery. I'm glad they're close! read more

Amazing Japanese bakery. Their cheesecake is light as a feathere. I'm looking forward to visiting here again. Highly recomment!

This is best cake shop so far. Cake has just right amount of sweetness and always fresh. I love their strawberry short cake and chestnuts cake. Very good Japanese cakes. I highly recommend this place. I order their cake to treat myself sometimes. Their cake makes me very happy and never made me disappointed. read more

My birthday cake was magnificent. I have never eaten a cake that was this light and low in sugar. I ordered the smallest size and it was the one with strawberries /berries on top and strawberries inside. Nothing of the cake is left. Ate about half of it myself and I am not ashamed to say that. Thanks for working with me on short notice (the day before). If I move from the area, I will come back and give you my business. read more

After eloping in New York City, my parents graciously hosted an impromptu wedding reception for my husband and I in my childhood home. They ordered a custom cake from A'Fondant because I requested a Japanese-style strawberry shortcake since I grew up eating those (my mother is from Japan, and I went to Japan regularly as a child). For those of you that do not know, Japanese-style cakes are similar to French-style cakes in that they are not as sugary as cakes commonly found in the United States and often use fresh fruit and chocolates as toppings. So despite tasting rich and delicious, they're not as sinful as the typical cakes you might find at the grocery store. As you can see from my photo, the cake was GORGEOUS! We almost felt bad cutting into it since it was decorated so beautifully with the butter/whipped cream frosting, chocolate covered fruits, and chocolate plate (the plate says celebration for those that cannot read Japanese). The sponge was mild tasting yet flavorful and the icing was decadent without being too rich. It tasted authentically Japanese in my opinion. And despite strawberries not being in season, those tasted great too! All 20+ of my guests that came to my reception LOVED the cake and begged to take some home but it disappeared too quickly! My American and non-American family all loved it. My husband and I are still raving about it and hope to visit A'Fondant too when we're back in town. In addition to the quality of the cake, the staff were absolutely amazing. They accommodated our request in such short notice because they know how important it is to have a tasty cake when celebrating a new marriage. While other Japanese-style bakeries rejected our request because of the short notice and it was near the New Year holiday, these lovely workers really went the extra mile to make their customers happy. Though this bakery is a located in Canton away from the Japanese restaurant hub in Novi, it is absolutely worth the trip and this business deserves our support. They care so much about their customers and make such quality sweets. Please give them a try!! read more

This bakery is an absolute gem. It is top tier, elegant, and artistic. I had limited time to create a cake for a birthday celebration and I came in with a design and they gave me options for fondant or a photo cake. It far exceeded my expectations. The cake was the white almond with Choc ganache filling, to die for. This should be your go to bakery to impress! Oh and I grabbed their gooey sugar cookies while picking up my cake....kill me now. These are real-deal gourmet bakers. read more

One of my favorite places to go for cakes! I've been looking for Asian cakes/bakeries the moment I moved into the area, and this place has become one of my go-to's. I've tried most of their cakes and most, if not all, were amazing. Their strawberry cake is one of the best and last month they had a Mont Blanc cake special which was also delicious. If you get a cheesecake, make sure to get the strawberry sauce (it's only 50 cents extra). In addition to cakes, I've tried their pound cakes and cookies, which were all pretty good. The ladies who work there are also very nice. I've been forgetting to bring cash (for orders under $20), but they've been so nice about it and let me pay with credit. A tip is to call in the morning when they open and reserve a few slices that you want to try, as they run out of most of the cakes before closing. The prices of the cakes aren't cheap, but it's totally worth it! read more

Amazing desserts! They have everything you could want from a bakery and more. I had a custom made cake for my graduation party and I gave them all the details and photos and it exceeded expectations! Everyone asked where we got the cake from. I was very impressed with how it turned out and it tasted great as well! I would definitely recommend for all your cake needs read more

Is it possible to be better than the original? Ms. Sugoko's Mont Blanc cake is so great, it is better than the original I had at Cafe Angelina of Paris, France! And better than those you would find in Tokyo, Taipei and Honolulu!! What a talent! Too bad they are not available everyday! Or It might be better for me not to have it too often, I will be over 400 lb in no time!! read more

I drove over an hour to go to this place and it was so worth it. The lady who owns the place is so sweet and kind and you can tell that she runs her business with humility and kindness. I got two cheesecakes and two chocolates and they were both incredible (I personally liked the cheesecake more because I generally like cheesecakes!) even my mom who is super picky about her cake, said it was absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anybody! Id definitely call in and reserve cake pieces or go in the morning because they sell out quickly! read more

This is my go to place for cakes and cookies The owner is very friendly and all the cakes they have are pretty good. They Never disappointed me! I don't really like cakes in America because they taste nothing but sugar and no flavor - just "sweet" (and usually too sweet). If you want flavorful tasteful cakes I highly recommend this place :) read more

If you like light and fluffy and not too sweet (and can afford it)... this is the place for you. Great cake shop run by a Japanese lady. If you can't stand grocery store cake and appreciate delicious, creamy handmade cakes, and don't mind paying for it this place is for you. Their main business is custom orders so you can't just walk in and get a cake although usually they have slices available. The strawberry shortcake seems to be their specialty but they have a variety. They do weddings etc but I have no experience with that. We just go for the special occasion cakes and sometimes slices. A strawberry shortcake that feeds about 8 will set you back about $30. read more

Awesome hidden gem in Michigan. Super tasty cakes in authentic Japanese style. Be aware they have cakes only on Thu, Fri and Sat.

I like the taste that it's not too sweet but too much strawberry inside made the cake less delicious. One plus point is the quick response via website or FB. read more

We ordered our wedding cake from this bakery and wedding guest favors (cookies) for our out of town wedding guests. All of it turned out wonderful! Our cake was gold fondant and gorgeous...it also tasted amazing. Maybe I am bias because it was my wedding cake but, it truly was delicious! Even people who do not care for sweets (like the Groom) really enjoyed it and commented about it. Their customer service was excellent. They really aim to please here.....asking a lot of questions to make sure they understood our expectations. The cookie favors we ordered were sugar cookies in the shape of the state of Michigan. All were decorated a little different which was a nice touch. They too were very tasty! This was probably the least stressful experience around planning our wedding. Thank you so much! read more

One thing I really miss from Los Angeles is all the delicious Asian bakery goods that hit the sweet spot but was still light and fluffy. I was so happy to find this place out of the blue one day. They remind me a bit of home even if the price is a bit steeper, but it's totally worth it. I ended up getting my birthday cake here, just a regular 9 inch strawberry shortcake, which actually had more fruits on it, and it a was a complete hit with my friends. If you want to pre-order a whole cake from them they require 2 weeks notice. And if you want to come in and buy their desserts without pre-ordering, then come in from Thursday - Saturday when they have all their desserts on display. I love their strawberry shortcake, fruit pie, Japanese cheese cake, and their cream cheese and red bean buns! FYI, they only take cards when the purchase price is $20 or more. read more

My first review . Ordered special cake for my daughter's graduation. Paid $70. I did not looked closely at the cake until beginning of the party. Never seen, heard or could imagine that a profession bakery can make a such a terrible job. Base of the cake was carton. Grad cap was made from carton and topped with in covered in dry hard chocolate fondant, Second layer of the cake was supported by small plastic pipes also covered in chocolate covered in dry hard chocolate fondant. Cake itself was not edible. read more

Truly a jewel in neighborhood! Only it's not exactly in my neighborhood, but it's definitely worth driving 20 minutes

We ordered a custom-cake for a reception, and although we had the reception on their off-day, they stayed open for us and made a custom cake! Their cake tasted just like one you would have in Japan; it was light, and had the perfect amount of sweetness. To sum up; they have EXCEPTIONAL customer service, and a cake to die for! read more

Wow! What a find! We were visiting my mom for her birthday and happened upon this bakery, which is close to her house, although she had never heard of it. She doesn't like cake, but she LOVED the strawberry short cake we got for her! I have been to Japan many times and live outside of NYC, and this bakery rivals anything I've had in both places. It is really superb! Five stars are not enough! read more

The BEST cake we have tasted ever in the US! It is hard to find authentic high-quality Japanese-European style cakes in the US, and we cannot believe that we finally could find them in this little bakery in a strip mall. We are so glad that we don't need to wait for our next trip to Japan to taste authentic Japanese-European style cakes! We accidentally discovered this place today and bought four slices of cakes - cheesecake, chocolate cake, roll cake, and fruit tart. They also have strawberry shortcake, but we couldn't try it because it was sold out. We had a pleasant conversation with a Japanese lady who runs this little bakery. She was very sweet and proud of her cakes. Right after having the first bite of the cakes, we wished we had found this place sooner. It is absolutely better than those you can find in Novi. The cakes were so creamy that they literally melted in our mouths. We cannot wait to order a whole cake - they are getting orders for Christmas cakes now. We are living in Ann Arbor, and we think it is worth driving for 50 minutes to visit here. If you want a whole Japanese experience, have lunch at Sushi Den 5 mins far from A' Fondant and go to this little bakery to have some dessert. A true hidden gem. read more
