Unexpected trip to Rhode Island and a TikTok search brought me here. Usually TikTok is hit or miss mostly miss for me but not this time!! I tried a beef and chicken patty and both were crazy. The chicken had more flavor but both were good. The cheese was different than what I'm used to but not mad and didn't affect the flavor. Then we tried the steak and cheese but Massachusetts style aka no cheese sauce... super well seasoned and flavorful. Same with the chopped cheese. The toasted bread definitely smashed and added to the texture. The tres leche and smoothie (no milk) were the perfect sweet for the savory. And it was super affordable!! I fed five people with apps for under $70!! Definitely not worth a cross state drive but if local or in town it's a must grab!!

90 minute roundtrip based on a PVD blog recommendation for what felt like Bait and switch. They don't serve coffee or pastries the website would indicate otherwise. I don't know where the photos were taken on the website, but they weren't taken here. Indifferent staff (how do you get an empanada order wrong when they're marked?) I got the feeling the counter staff wished she were anywhere else - and after the ordrr arrived, we did, too. This is food for children; bland, textureless and everything is just swimming in mayonnaise. Unless you're walking by - just don't.

Empanadas, delicious

Amazing flavors! I got the large Chimi d'Pollo sandwich for $10.50. It was stuffed well with very tasty shredded chicken and they were very liberal with their delicious mayo which took the sandwich over the top. The bread was unreal. Crunchy but soft in the inside and it held up to all the gooey ingredients. Then I got 1 ham and cheese empanada and 1 chicken and cheese empanada. ($1.62 each) Oh man, they were warm, super crispy and had great flavor. The lady who took my order was very nice and it came out quick for being so fresh. I live closer to Cranston and I can't wait until they open that location!

I have been to this place few times. Since I had not reviewed it I decided to add a review. It's a small Dominican restaurant in Providence. It does have small chairs and table but not really set up for dine in. It's a very popular place among locals as the place is always filled with people and cars. The place is also located in ghetto neighborhoods so I would not come here at night. Due to these reasons Its probably a better pick up or delivery from this place if you are placing order otherwise you will wait a while. I've tried their chopped cheese, steak and cheese, frikitaki, chimi d pollo, mango smoothies, passion fruit juice, and all kinds of empanada. Their food is great but if you don't like greasy or fried food it's probably not for you. Their pressed sandwich is always on point. Crunchy on outside and juicy in the inside. Personally I enjoyed Frikitaki the most. It's basically chopped cheese with veggie and egg with mayo. So far the drinks that I tried were also good and empanada is very good as well. Empanada is crispy on the outside and cheesy and savory on the inside. My personal favorite is chicken and cheese and ham and cheese. Overall I like this place. Food is good and price is reasonable but there are some negatives. Service may not be always great because they are usually very busy and they have hard time catching orders or getting the right orders sometimes. Today I ordered chicken and cheese empanada and i got pizza empanada so I told the staff and they gave me another empanada but it was again pizza empanada (maybe someone mixed up empanadas?). The food is pretty greasy as you can see the grease seep out of the bag and the wrappers. Finally, the location is not very good and the place is very small to accommodate a-lot of demands. TLDR: If you have not tried it I would recommend but make sure to order a head or get it through delivery.

My first visit to Sophia's was amazing. My second visit... not so much. I should've known that right when they opened up their second location in Cranston that the quality of the Providence location would go down. My fries were soggy and cold, our sandwiches had less meat than before, and they messed up our order of empanadas. This time I went to the shop for pickup and it was dirty with flies everywhere and the staff was rude and seemed unmotivated to work. I would say try the new location on Park Ave in Cranston because their food is good but not sure about the effort in their original spot.

Delicious and absolutely great while still hot. Tried all the empanadas and the pizza empanada was my favorite. Can't go wrong with any of them. Smoothies were refreshing and all worth the wait. Location is clean and they had plenty of regulars stop by. It's not too much of a dine in place, since seats on stools and the tables are side one person counters. Definitely a pick up and go place. I am coming again soon to share with my family all the empanadas ~

Went with a friend and got the chimi de pollo and Cuban sandwiches. Fresh, authentic and delish. The staff was knowledgeable in helping us choose and so friendly. We'll definitely be back.

Chimi de Res

I got the Chimi de res and added extra cabbage and cheese to it. Their chimis are good made with French bread so when fresh it's crunchy and good. Their meat is cut into strips verses a patty which I enjoy more. Their sauce is great with the Chimi and I always get extra to smoother it in the sandwiches. I also have gotten the pork chimi which is not as good but is delicious when you add the sauce to it as well to give it that extra kick. I have gotten their breakfast egg bacon and cheese sandwhich that also comes on French bread. Their patilitos are really cheesy and delicious. The only reason why I didn't give them 4 stars is because their service needs serious work. Often time calling ahead doesn't guarantee they will start on your food before you get there so it's best to just order in person and wait there. The average wait time is atleast 40 minutes. There prices are higher than average for a chimi but worth it because it is also better than the average chimi that you can find in providence. Egg bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich 7/10 Chimi de res 9/10 Pork chimi 7/10 Beef and cheese patilitos 8/10

Very unprofessional; it was 9:20 when I called, and someone picked up. I asked if you guys were open till ten they said yes; when I came here, seven mins later. I kid you not, they locked the door as I was parking in reverse, and when I walked in, they shut off the lights, stood there, and looked at me! Why answer the phone and say you are open till ten like the business states and not follow what it says? Get people that want to work the hours and not lie to the customers that are burning their gas to come here for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will never come here again. If I could give it no stars, I definitely would. Be honest! That's how you have a business. P.S. The only reason I called and asked is because the last time I came here, they were complaining about people coming in and stating they were closing the door because they wanted to bounce! So I instead called cause gas is not cheap, and I didn't want to look dumb calling, and it's closed. I only came cause they said yes, they are open, and look now, they lied. Don't worry, I'll take my hard earn money to a business that abides by the time they open and close!

I have no words for how terrible this place was. Puréed dog food on fries shouldn't cost that much.

We had about a 25 minute wait before we were seated as we expected. There were tons of people waiting for a table but they have a good system going and we got our table by the promised time. You are first provided complimentary chips with 3 warm dips (black beans and mild and spicy salsa) - they were really good. For appetizers we shared a garnacha and a chicharron and cheese pupusa. Portions were large and they were very tasty. We considered getting one main course to share but since we don't live close by decided to go for 2. This allowed us to have a lot of leftovers - enough for another dinner at home. One entree was aire, mar y tierra - delicious fried fish filet, well seasoned and grilled steak and chicken breast. That came with salad, rice, beans and a side of tortillas. We also had the caldo de marisco (seafood soup) and although not mentioned on the menu, our server mentioned that we could order a medium or large size. That came with a side order of rice. Fantastic soup! Restaurant is very lively and the noise level is high with groups enjoying their meals and having conversations. They have several televisions that were playing soccer games in the background as well as music playing in the background. A very energetic vibe. Another great meal and we will be back again in the future.

I ordered a pupusa with pork to start it comes with cabbage and red sauce they are so good! For entrees we ordered 2 steak tacos that were filled with so much steak, we ordered chicken nachos and it was a great size 2 kids shared them, lastly we ordered parrillada mi Guatemala which is a platter with filers chicken, steak, pork, sausage white rice beans & salad it was big enough for 2 adults to share and have left overs! Ambiance - it's family friendly, booths & table seatings for bigger parties there were 6 of us! 10/10 experience our waiter was friendly and happy!

Easy to find restaurants ~ plenty of parking~ inside has red decor with some Christmas decorations…read moreleft around but still clean with plenty of seating. The menu is very prominent and easy to read. Order at the counter and pay, and the food will be brought to your table. Staff were bi-lingual which is always a plus~ I did notice that a bell must be rung if you need something because the server is mostly in the back probably working. I could hear from the back, the popusas being made! They were the best! Absolutely delicious ~ I ordered the the al pastor tacos. They were ok. Very greasy for my taste. Popusas were my favorite!

Inside is small with few seats and a counter where you place orders. It was not busy when we went so we placed an order and sat down. We got a homemade pineapple juice and few tacos including chorizo, steal, al pastor, and fish. Fish was not able to be ordered as single for some reason. Pineapple juice was tasty and natural so it wasn't too sweet. It was foamy maybe from blending with blender? The tacos were pretty good. Everything was seasoned well and came with some spicy sauce and lime. Personally I liked the chorizo and fish tacos the most. Steak/al pastor was a tad bit dry but wasn't bad. Service was good. Took a but for food to come out but I can tell they make a lot of things in the restaurant and prepares it after its been ordered. Overall, the place was good. It's a solid Mexican restaurant around the area. I can't say it's the best I've had though as there are a-lot of good competitors in RI. I would get chorizo tacos and their juice again if I come back.
