Well it took a while, mostly because I had to ship my computers one at a time, but I just now finished cycling files between my three 2009 Imacs and three 2010 Macbook pros, which Bill refurbished, and I have to tell you, they are running at twice the speed as when they where brand news, and not once did I run it a problem or issue. So to say Bill more then delivered on his promise to get my computers all working and talking to each other would be an understatement. What made it hard for Bill is they all had to run Snow Leopard as most of the software I use to run my newspapers only runs on that, and there is no replacement that runs on later computers. So Bill had to blow out some old cobwebs and pull some tricks out of his hat that only a former Apple Genus Genus knows. Add in years of less then stellar cloning of cloned hard drives, and you could not blame anyone if they laughed at you and told you to go away. But Bill didn't. He identified and fixed issues that I didn't even know I had ... and in doing so, set me up with a system that I know will outlive my days running a newspaper. My only concern is what do I do with these beauties once I do shut down the paper - they are running too well to walk away from! And least you ask, Bill' did all the work for a fraction of what I expected to pay. It was the best money I ever spent! read more

Just before the Holidays my iMac started acting up. I couldn't eject a CD out of the drive, some programs had difficulty loading up. I'm disabled but I loaded my iMac onto my walker and went to the Apple store. First i was told a service tech could see me until 3 pm the following day. I pleaded can't I just leave it, no was the answer. Finally I was able to get a manager to speak to me. When sh looked up my serial number I was informed I had a "legacy machine" and the techs could not work on it, part were not available for a 6 year old machine. She did give me a card for Bill. In desperation I called him, over the phone he told me it sounded like my Hard Drive was dying. Tho make a long story short I brought the machine to him. He had it repaired in 2 days, upgraded memory, restored the new drive from my back up, All done at a VERY REASONABLE fee. If I listened to folks at the Apple Store, I would have been buying a new machine and having to struggle getting my back ups on the new machine. Bill upgraded my wife's MacBook Pro when the track pad went kapooey. It was a quarter of the cost that our local Mac repair shop wanted to charge and they really didn't want to do it. The computer was a 2011 and considered "vintage" by the Apple people. Then when I made the mistake of watering plants directly above her machine and the whole thing went kapooey. My bad. But Bill salvaged all her data and transferred it all onto a MacBook air. Based on his wife's advice (she knows a lot) I came back to Soosmac to upgrade my 2009 iMac with a solid state drive and then did it a second time with a 2011 iMac (I do photo and video editing as a hobby). In all cases, we (my wife and I) were completely satisfied and our vintage machines are still doing just fine. The Apple scheme is to get customers upgrading over and over, year after year it seems. I resent that. Bill is a savior. In a day and age when all it is that the world wants from us is to consume the next item, especially technical stuff, I am someone who love a thing that lasts ten, twenty, thirty years. Bill was one of the first Genius Bar technicians hired by Apple, and worked at the Crossgates store until just recently. Now he loves to work on old Apple machines. I took him my much-loved 2010 MacBook Pro that was behaving badly. Although he wasn't able to fix it (logic board must have finally gone out), he was exceedingly helpful, patiently explaining complex hardware concepts, and gave me good advice. After discussing my replacement options, he gave me back my machine without charging me anything for all the time he spent helping me. Very generous. It occasionally seemed a little difficult to get in touch with Bill, and his emails were a little curt, but that seems understandable since he has a full time job, a family, and works on computers like mine in his free time. Bill just worked on my MacBook Pro 2013 when the track pad became erratic and I could only use an external mouse. He replaced my top case for at least half the price Apple would have charged, if they would have worked on it, which they wouldn't, because its considered vintage. He had it ready for me in record time. I will now be able to get several more years out of my Mac which is a heck of a lot better than paying $2,000.00 or more for the caliber machine I currently have. I will always call Bill to keep my machines going. In addition to repairs SoosMac can teach users how to use software old and new. I have taken classes from Barb in the past and she can teach anybody, applications and hardware, and all with a great sense of humor. She makes learning easy and fun. read more

After several crashes, I thought my 2012 MBP was toast, but Bill convinced me it was still a great machine and all it needed was a new heart transplant (aka, Hard Drive with double the capacity). He then transferred all (yes, ALL) my data, applications, Aperture photos, etc. from my Time Machine backup and voila, it's performing like a new machine again and nothing was lost. From where I live in Rural West Bumbleville it was an hour and a half drive--but, if Bill ever relocates, I'd drive cross country for him and his great service (and, at very reasonable $$'s!). What a fantastic resource for Apple users! My not-so-old MacBook was too old for the Apple Store to even look at! One of the employees very kindly gave me "drsoos" contact info. When I explained my problem, he suggested I drop off my computer. His lovely wife met me at the door, took my laptop and info and said they would contact me soon. Dr. Soos was awesome! He replaced my 17-inch MacBook Pro screen and the magnetic harddrive with a ssd in my Mac desktop. In addition he fixed the fan in my Mac desktop. Both jobs were done rapidly with absolutely no problems. If you have a broken Mac and live in the Capital District of NY, he is definitely the person to contact. A word of warning! My 2009 imac was having some issues and I was seriously considering trashing it and buying a new one. Bill suggested upgrading to an SSD drive and transferring my data over.
