The price was actually average but the dental work and followup were extremely problematic. The following is my email regarding the problems following my temporary crowns. I later discovered the website email address was not operational. Message to Dr. Rao, I left a message this morning (Saturday October 21) regarding my discomfort and problem with my temporary crowns. I assumed you would have an emergency number to reach you even though your office is closed. (It's very unusual for a medical/dental professional to have no after hours contact information). I had my temporary crowns done on October 11 and paid for them and the permanent crowns in advance as you requested. This has not been my usual payment experience. I returned on October 18 to have the temporary crowns smoothed as my tongue was irritated and had developed ulcers from the rough texture. Your assistant did most of the work. I started to explain to you how my bite was now off and my mouth felt out of alignment. You didn't appear to be concerned and no effort was made to rectify this situation. Observing my bite, it's apparent that the temporary crowns on the lower right side are higher, wider and unevenly matched to the bottom teeth on the left side. I have researched and discovered that temporary crowns should be adjusted so that the patient's bite is comfortable or if necessary, redone. I haven't been able to eat solid food for the past 10 days and my tongue is still irritated by the rough texture of the crowns. I'm very concerned that my permanent crowns will also be a poor fit. I need to have the temporary crowns adjusted to be the same height and similar width as the teeth on the other side of my mouth so that I am able to chew comfortably. I am unable to chew properly on the left side since I am missing a top tooth. My permanent crowns appointment isn't till November 8. I would appreciate having this dental problem corrected as soon as possible. Dr. Rao responded on Monday to the phone message I left on Saturday concerning my distress. He was apologetic and had me return again for another adjustment. He works on several patients at the same time and at one point needed to be reminded what we were working on. The permanent crowns were finally applied and the numbing needle was incredibly painful. My lips were horribly swollen for days as the extreme numbing lasted for hours and made me unaware that I was chewing on my lips, when eating. Finally the crowns were done and I was able to chew comfortably. The next problem was reimbursement from my Medicare insurance. Dr. Rao had said initially that as a courtesy he would fill out the paperwork. He sent a pre-approval but neglected to follow up with a completed and signed itemized bill. It's been almost 3 months and after hours of conversations with United Healthcare, I received a statement showing a $1000 reimbursement allowed. The paperwork included a signature required by the dentist and his filling out a form. I emailed the paperwork to his office and I spoke with his office representative Anna, who advised me not to pursue the payment because that would delay my getting reimbursement (?) She advised me to wait a few more weeks and said Dr. Rao was informed about this situation. I've had a lot of dental work done by different dentists over the years but this has been an unusually frustrating experience.

I am sharing my story to inform others that they can find better oral care elsewhere. In mid-June, I went for my first check up and cleaning at Glendale Modern Dentistry. Upon arrival, I learned that required, pre-appointment forms had not been emailed. As a result, I would have to complete them before my appointment. No tablet computer was provided, so I was left to fill out the forms on my personal cell phone. The task was made more difficult due to a lack of internet service in the office. I was told to connect to Dunkin' Donuts WiFi, which again had a poor signal. Eventually, I stood outside in the 100+ degree heat to complete the series of forms. Next, an extensive set of X-rays and photographs taken. Then I was escorted to an exam room where the hygienist hurriedly performed periodontal charting. I attempted to explain that I was very anxious, and usually the hygienist numbs my mouth to avoid discomfort that occurs during my cleaning. The hygienist seemed to lack empathy, and told me that she would prefer to try doing the cleaning without a local anesthetic first. Next the dentist reviewed the X-rays with me, indicating that I have no cavities. When the time finally came for my cleaning, the hygienist refused to perform the service unless I agreed to the following additional procedures: - Scaling and Root Planing -Adjunctive Pre-Diagnostic Test that aids in detection of mucosal abnormalities -Fluoride Varnish -A laser treatment (which she eventually admitted was unnecessary) Again I explained that I was very anxious, and that for this first visit I simply wanted a local anesthetic with a standard teeth cleaning. It was important that I gain confidence and establish trust in the hygienist's quality of care. The hygienist repeatedly refused to do a basic teeth cleaning unless I agreed to the additional procedures, so I eventually left the office without my 6-month cleaning. Of course now my insurance has now been charged approximately $1700 for the X-rays and exam, and I am left without the routine cleaning for which the appointment was intended. At the same time, my young-adult son was being seen in another exam room. This a young man who takes good care of his teeth and has had routine dental appointments every 6 months his entire life. His experience resulted in an out-of-pocket charge of $85 for an unneeded deep cleaning. The hygienist also recommended he get a laser treatment, but eventually said that it could be done at a follow up visit instead. Glendale Modern Dentistry is not interested in quality health care. They seem to be much more focused on up-charging people for unnecessary services. Save yourself the inconvenience and expense by going elsewhere!

I went in 3 months ago, paid for and got x-rays done and a cleaning, and was told everything looked good and he wanted to see me again in 3 months for a cleaning to help keep the plaque down - fine. So, I go in recently, I have a lot less plaque, he says, Good Job, and I'm thinking I'm out of there soon. Well then he tells me that the x-rays they did the last time were just "basic cleaning x-rays" and tells me they haven't done "full x-rays" for 3 years, and he wants to do them for free, "just to make sure we aren't missing anything". So, stupid me, I thank him and I say "okay" and the girl does like 20 x-rays and when she gets done, she tells me that the ones from 3 months earlier were clearer/better. So then, supposedly based on these new (less clear) x-rays, he tells me that all of my fillings are cracked, and that those could turn into cavities, and he wants to re-do all of them, he wants to replace the crown I have, but he never really tells me why, he tells me that some of the stains I have on my teeth "could turn into cavities", so of course he wants to drill and fill those too, he wants to pull 2 wisdom teeth that I have room for and that don't even have cavities, "because they might be accumulating bacteria and that might be causing some of these other problems". What problems? At no point was anything ever pointed out to me on the x-rays, and at no point, was I ever told I had a single cavity, yet he wants to fill 15 teeth, replace a crown, and pull 2 wisdom teeth to the tune of $2,700, but 3 months ago everything looked good? Oh, and this estimate doesn't actually include the crown, because I told him I'm not replacing it. Sorry, I wasn't born yesterday. Find another human ATM. I've found myself a new dentist.

The dentist, after seeing me for the first time, for 5 minutes, told me I needed two crowns and quoted over $2k (this figure may be wrong - this was two years ago). This also seemed like a red flag to me so I did not return. I've since been to another dentist that does not agree with this assessment.
