Our smile brings out our confidence and should be taken seriously
Tanya A.

My husband and I have gone here for some time and at first it was okay, but recently we have had so many issue. my husband broke his front tooth just a few weeks before our wedding in 2021 and he went to Camelback Smiles to get it fixed. They set us up on a payment plan because apparently for one tooth it was going to cost several thousands of dollar, after insurance... He got a temporary one that didn't fit and caused so much pain. He then went in for the fitting for the permanent tooth and once they tried to place it in, it didn't fit! They referred him to a specialist to get re-fitted, adding additional expenses on top of the already expensive tooth. They said they'd contact him once it was in. He ended up waiting several months, only for them to say it was "lost" or something happened. After months of back and forth, they placed his tooth in that did not fit at all, and it is completely miscolored. He said he wanted one to fit him better, so they said they were ordering it and they'd contact him once ready. He then waited again for several months and now we are in 2022. a year and a half later. In the meantime, we refused to make payments on a service that was not only completed wrong but delayed beyond belie. He contacted them and asked what was going on. They once again said they did have the tooth and would have to order it! Not asking about the correct shade it should be or checking to make sure it would fit correctly after all this time. We finally went in and then they said they couldn't complete the whole original treatment because of the balance he owed of over $2,000... again, AFTER insurance and waiting so long while in pain and discomfort of having a mismatched tooth and not fitting properly. We were originally quoted less $2,000 for the whole treatment if I'm not mistaken, which means that if that is his 20% out-of-pocket portion, the treatment for a single tooth had to be $10,000?! So, he is now stuck with a tooth that causes discomfort and embarrassment, and will have to start from scratch with a different clinic. I, myself, went in for a simple cleaning that was to be 100% covered under our insurance and they refused to do it, wanting me to pay for a deep cleaning and pay additional out-of-pocket fees. I just wanted to use my insurance for a basic cleaning. I can understand them wanting patients to get the best service, but some of us can't afford it and just want to use their insurance for whatever is covered. No wonder they want to "offer payment plans" for patients, because they will make sure you are paying the most that they can charge patients for. As a dentist, I wonder if they would feel proud of their work if it were one of their family members having to walk around with a tooth that doesn't fit properly or match the other teeth?! I'm so disappointed. What happened to quality service?

Root canal time

I have had nothing but great experiences every time I come here! Which unfortunately has been a lot within the last month (due to not seeing a dentist for almost 3 years prior). Let's start with how down-to-earth & professional everyone is. Conversations & interactions with everybody from the front desk staff to dental assistants & the doctor herself, are always easy & pleasant. They made me feel comfortable from beginning to end & I actually looked forward to going! They're also very efficient which is ideal when you're getting something done like a root canal & can I just say Dr. Felien is seriously amazing! She took the time to answer any & all of my questions & I really felt cared for. Oh, & the hygienist is so gentle & kind my cleaning was totally painless which has not been the case in the past. I know my dental health is in the best of hands now! Highly recommend!

Felien actually even knelt down to examine a dark spot on my son's tooth while he was playing with some of their toy blocks on the floor.

I can see (and verified with my insurance) that they just filed the claim now... in 2025. It seems I'm not the only person with this experience from other reviews. The woman on the phone was patient and helpful... assuming this is not her fault, but they are definitely not an organized operation. Quality of care - I did not go back because the hygienist seemed as though I was his first ever patient and repeatedly poked me. The dentist, after seeing me for the first time, for 5 minutes, told me I needed two crowns and quoted over $2k (this figure may be wrong - this was two years ago). This also seemed like a red flag to me so I did not return. I've since been to another dentist that does not agree with this assessment. Highly suggest getting a second opinion if quoted for a pricey service, but I'd just pass on this dentist altogether.

And I've been going there for years, but the original dentist I went to isn't there anymore so I think I'm gonna have to start going to seeing him in Scottsdale. I referred my brother no referral Credit they give you a $50 Amazon card. Not $50 off your bill. They called my brother. He was three minutes away from his appointment and they called him and canceled his appointment. He should probably charge them the 50 some dollars right? They are very slow with their work, they have a change of office staff very frequently it seems. I would definitely try a different dentist.

My old practice was a single dentist, a few dental assistants and a receptionist. You spend your entire visit with the dentist and he provides you an honest summary of your visit. The total visit is under a half hour. Biltmore Commons has 6 Dentists and at least that many dental hygienist and more dental assistants and receptionists. You spend the majority of your visit with your hygienist and about 2 minutes with the dentist. Because there is so much overhead you get a Spirit Airlines experience where you are constantly getting upsold nonsense. The hygienists are more like used car salesmen than people who clean your teeth. I have been to this place twice and they have tried selling me laser treatment ($100) night guards ($800), Invisilign, a Waterpick ($120), an additional cleaning, and they were going to try to sell me an electric toothbrush if I didn't already have one. The hygienists don't give up the entire visit until you say yes to something. The dentist never says you need any of these things. I never went through with any of these scams. And I will not be going to Biltmore Commons ever again. My first visit was 2 hours (with x-rays) and my second was almost an hour (without x-rays). I have a life and my time is not valued. My recommendation is to find a dentist with less overhead where they can pay for their practice with just regular dental work and not ancillary products.

The price was actually average but the dental work and followup were extremely problematic. The following is my email regarding the problems following my temporary crowns. I later discovered the website email address was not operational. Message to Dr. Rao, I left a message this morning (Saturday October 21) regarding my discomfort and problem with my temporary crowns. I assumed you would have an emergency number to reach you even though your office is closed. (It's very unusual for a medical/dental professional to have no after hours contact information). I had my temporary crowns done on October 11 and paid for them and the permanent crowns in advance as you requested. This has not been my usual payment experience. I returned on October 18 to have the temporary crowns smoothed as my tongue was irritated and had developed ulcers from the rough texture. Your assistant did most of the work. I started to explain to you how my bite was now off and my mouth felt out of alignment. You didn't appear to be concerned and no effort was made to rectify this situation. Observing my bite, it's apparent that the temporary crowns on the lower right side are higher, wider and unevenly matched to the bottom teeth on the left side. I have researched and discovered that temporary crowns should be adjusted so that the patient's bite is comfortable or if necessary, redone. I haven't been able to eat solid food for the past 10 days and my tongue is still irritated by the rough texture of the crowns. I'm very concerned that my permanent crowns will also be a poor fit. I need to have the temporary crowns adjusted to be the same height and similar width as the teeth on the other side of my mouth so that I am able to chew comfortably. I am unable to chew properly on the left side since I am missing a top tooth. My permanent crowns appointment isn't till November 8. I would appreciate having this dental problem corrected as soon as possible. Dr. Rao responded on Monday to the phone message I left on Saturday concerning my distress. He was apologetic and had me return again for another adjustment. He works on several patients at the same time and at one point needed to be reminded what we were working on. The permanent crowns were finally applied and the numbing needle was incredibly painful. My lips were horribly swollen for days as the extreme numbing lasted for hours and made me unaware that I was chewing on my lips, when eating. Finally the crowns were done and I was able to chew comfortably. The next problem was reimbursement from my Medicare insurance. Dr. Rao had said initially that as a courtesy he would fill out the paperwork. He sent a pre-approval but neglected to follow up with a completed and signed itemized bill. It's been almost 3 months and after hours of conversations with United Healthcare, I received a statement showing a $1000 reimbursement allowed. The paperwork included a signature required by the dentist and his filling out a form. I emailed the paperwork to his office and I spoke with his office representative Anna, who advised me not to pursue the payment because that would delay my getting reimbursement (?) She advised me to wait a few more weeks and said Dr. Rao was informed about this situation. I've had a lot of dental work done by different dentists over the years but this has been an unusually frustrating experience.
