I can no longer recommend Open Wide Dental. I was a patient of Dr. Durisek at Open Wide Dental for over 20 years. That is now over and I will never return to this dental practice. The quality of the service rapidly declined in recent years and culminated with Dr. Durisek leaving the practice. After seeing a new dentist at a different dental practice, I was informed that a failed filling was allowed to go for years without being brought to my attention for treatment. I lost all trust in Open Wide Dental. This office is also sorely lacking in modern dental technology. read more

I've been a loyal patient at this office for nine years, which is why what happened today was completely unacceptable. I showed up for my routine 6‑month cleaning only to discover -- with zero warning -- that both my dentist and my long‑time hygienist were gone. No email, no call, no courtesy notice. Nothing. Practice sold. After nearly a decade of trusting this practice with my care, the absolute minimum they could have done was inform me/other patients that the entire team had changed. Instead, I was blindsided in the chair. Literally in the chair. The cleaning itself was nothing to write home about, but the real issue is the complete lack of communication and transparency. If this is how they handle major staffing changes, it makes me question what else they're not communicating. To make matters worse, I learned I had a credit balance on my account -- money that belongs to me -- and no one bothered to notify me or refund it. That's not just sloppy; it's shady. I'm not talking a big balance ($50) BUT still. When I asked the hygienist and the new dentist why a long‑term patient wasn't informed, neither apologized or took responsibility. Their only response was, 'Take the matter up with office management.' On top of that, I was suddenly charged for X‑rays that have always been covered in the past. Performing services without explaining the cost or confirming insurance coverage is not how this office has operated for the last nine years. I understand that change happens -- but this was handled terribly. After this experience, I'm seriously reconsidering whether this is the right place for me going forward. read more

Booked an appointment for a cleaning over 2 weeks ago. They scheduled it for 4pm. Called me day of to tell me they do not do 4pm appointments.... Very disappointing. Their hours are extremely limited and they do not prioritize patients clearly. read more

This practice was recommended by a close friend, whose recommendations I will never trust again. It felt more like buying a used car from a fast-talking salesman than a dental appointment. I booked the appointment nearly a month in advance, but still had to wait while other patients who arrived later than I were taken in for treatment. I had to wait well over an hour to see the dentist, and he seemed very rushed. I do not want a dentist who is rushing around because he has over-booked his schedule. I felt like an afterthought. In addition, the entire office has blaring 80's and 90's rock music at a pretty high volume. Very annoying, it did not make for a calm or relaxing visit. The one positive point was the staff, at least the few I encountered, were all very nice, but that doesn't make up for the rest of it. Used to be good????? They had a dental assistant do a new procedure on my mouth, that she had never done before -she told me this. It took her forever to do. It did not take. She did not do the work correctly. Even Dr.D tried to fix it and he could not fix it (hummm he's the owner) I had to return 5 times on the 5th time; Dr Day told me that I would just have to live with THEIR mistake and to NOT come back. To this day this still causes my tongue to bleed occasionally. (This was about 2yrs ago-ish) I was never rude to them. They just cannot accept they have no clue what they are doing. I have complained to them but they refuse to do anything or even take responsibility I do not recommended you bring your enemy here!!! read more

I just recently became a patient of Open Wide Dental after about 3 years without a dental visit. I'm happy I chose Open Wide Dental as my dental provider. My very first call scheduling an appointment informed me clearly of what to expect. My hygienist, Chris, gave me a tour of the office on my first visit and made me feel welcome and valued as a patient, explaining the process of a first cleaning and exam and what to expect. Dr. Durisek did the same upon entering to begin his exam and laying out his recommendations for me and what to expect on future visits. Return visits for routine cleanings and dental work have all followed suit with the same great service and friendliness I received from day one. Who likes going to the dentist?! Uh yuck... Well, Dr Durisek will turn that frown upside down. Once you enter the facility and check in, get comfy w/ massage chair and beverage. When you're in "the chair," everyone is accommodating and the bonus for me is the music playing (80s) & the singing at times can be soothing while the work is being done, before you know it, it's over. I think the staff here is very medically competent but i wound up in the middle of a tug of war between Open Wide and AZ perio. I was planning on a cleaning today from OWs Excellent hygenist Jason and I get a phone call from AZperio telling me not to go, that it would hurt my treatment.... Evidently my phone calls from last week never got relayed. Then I get a phone call from OW to tell me it had been "all worked out" and insisted that I come in at 2. (It hadn't) Eventually I found out that Dr Durisek and Dr Donovan never conferred on my treatment plan, and the plans conflicted. Donovan wanted almost $17,000 and Durisek wanted almost $4,000 just to start the plans with more work down the road... I felt like a bag of money that they were both trying to get first. I'm now consulting with another dentist who will hopefully be more reasonable. read more

I asked to know what I was being charged for before anything that was done, I sat down in the dental chair and had exrays and consultation then a dentist examed my teeth and the next thing that happened, Denise brought in a iPad and it showed me a charge for over 1100 dollars. I told her I would have never sat down down if I knew I was being charged anything at all. I told her Ashley had promised me I would be told of all charges before anything thing was done. I was very upset, what she did was sick and wrong. She told me Ashley never told me this. They lie to you and take all your money from your insurance account. Do not go to this place, you will be very upset if you do. I called and canceled everything and still was charged over 2000 dollars with no work done on my teeth. I then called and left a voicemail that wasn't bad and the next day they had the police come to my place of residence. So thankful I found a dentist in my area (walking distance from my house). First off the lobby has a spa-like feel to it, love the decor and music. The staff was amazing to say the least. In my opinion, Durisek is a self-centered Prima Donna whose personality flaws, unfortunately, outweigh his skills in dentistry. In the efforts to be fair, I've left a few "pros and cons" about my experiences. I am no longer a client. With so many other talented dentists to choose from in the Valley, there's just no reason to endure him, in my opinion. Pro: He's a perfectionist in his dental work which is a definite plus. Con: His perfectionism sometimes spills over into his environment. For example, if a magazine is out of place in the dental room, he will stop the dental procedure and make his dental assistant re-arrange them until it soothes him, an action that was uncomfortable for me and seemed to demean the dental assistant (she's not housekeeping). Pro: His office staff is amazing and very professional. Con: He's kept me waiting for over 40 minutes waiting for his consultation after the dental hygienist cleaned my teeth, something that should only take him 5 minutes to do. I understand that dental emergencies happen and may have happened during my appointment, but no one ever came back to tell me what was happening. So I'm still not sure whether there was an emergency elsewhere or if I was just forgotten. Believe it or not, I have a life after my dental appointments. Not a very professional experience. I ended up leaving without getting his consultation, as I had a personal appointment to get to. Pro: He has casual and fun conversations with his dental assistants while performing his work, which reduces my stress level. Con: When I tried to join in on the conversation, I was looked at like I was rudely interrupting him. I mean, I'm just the customer and the conversation is just traveling back and forth across my face but I mean... Overall, a business that started out good in the beginning and has just slid downwards due to disregard of customer service and basic cordialities. Again, just my opinion. read more

I'm a recent transplant to Phoenix, and came to Open Wide from a recommendation from a friend. The last time I'd been to a dentist was right before everything shut down due to Covid, when I got a sub-par crown from my very expensive dentist in Long Beach. 2 months ago, that crown literally fell out i6f my head while eating a piece of pizza. WTF! Off I went to see Dr. Durisek! His staff is amazing! They provided excellent care, and made sure I knew exactly what needed to be done and how my benefits would accommodate the care I needed. After a root canal done at another facility, my crown is now firmly ensconced in my head! On the sub-par crown, not only could I feel the seam where the composite attached to my tooth, I could feel the ridges made by whatever machine carved it out. This new crown is smooth, seamless, and makes me happy. I highly recommend this amazingly attractive and amazingly competent staff. So, I am one of those people that is terrified of going to the dentist and I only go every couple of years. Yes, it is unhealthy cycle but I was very much at peace with that! I eased my guilty conscience by buying one of those awesome sonic toothbrushes. Anyhoo, I finally got my lazy butt to this dentist based on previous reviewers and that they take my insurance. Oh did I mention, I pay for the best dental insurance ever year and never use it? Yeah, that's me. I recently set up an appt to have a cleaning and x-rays done. My first appt ended up getting split into two when the hygenist had to go home for the day. So, I could only get the x-rays done. I forget his name (Jason?) who was doing the x-rays, but he was so nice and friendly. He didn't give me a hard time about my extended time between visits. And because I had to come back the next morning for the cleaning, they gave me a $10 Bath & Body Works gift card for my inconvenience. Very unnecessary but I really appreciated the gesture. I came back the next morning and while I waited, I sat in one of those massage chairs. Holy mother of god, I was falling asleep while waiting for the cleaning! I was truly drowsy when they called me back. A pretty good trick, I must say. I can't remember my hygenist's name but she did a great job with my cleaning. I didn't limp out of there in pain as I have with prior dentists in the past. The dentist was equally friendly and did a nice job explaining what I needed done and in what order of importance. Everyone was great. I love how modern the decor is and also the high-tech equipment they use. I think this dentist is going to be a keeper and keep me on my toes! read more

I called to obtain a last minute appointment. They were very responsive and quickly worked me in the following day. I was equally impressed when they called me the morning of the appointment and said there was a cancellation and I could come in early if I wanted. I rushed over there and to my surprise found a very professional office, well appointed, up to date, with exceptional service. I was taken in immediately, situated with Dr. Nunley seeing me within minutes. He was professional, straight forward and took care of my emergency needs. More to come as I need additional work. I just started coming here last summer after awhile of not seeing a dentist. The was no need to be nervous and from the first visit and every visit after every staff member from receptionist to hygienist and of course the dr have been amazing. Friendly and professional, but also genuinely care. The office is spacious and very clean and with Covid you can be assured they take it serious and follow strict measures. Sabrina is great to go over insurance and cost issues. Jason is very thorough with cleaning and then Dr. D does a great job with everything else...who would have known getting cavities filled would be this easy? Listen...people hate the dentist. People hate paying co-pays or for dental work in general I mean who does....BUT I have been coming here for almost 10 years and I HAVE NEVER EVER had any of the experiences like some of the reviews left here on Yelp recently. I've never felt gouged or that recommended work was not necessary. As a patient it's YOUR responsibility to make sure you have insurance and that the doctor you are visiting accepts it and the work you need done is covered and to what extent. This is just common sense. It's a simple phone call, Open Wide will do it for you if you ask and they usually already done it if you need a procedure. There are 1000's of insurance plans and no doctor can know them all and what they cover... that's on YOU. That said I know Open Wide always checks and asks regularly about my coverage and has informed me before performing a procedure if there are any issues. If in doubt ASK though, BEFORE not after. Be a good patient and you'll get a lot further with your health care in general. Sure I've got good teeth, I get my teeth cleaned regularly, schedule in advance and even though I don't enjoy going to the dentist or paying for dentistry when I need it I LOVE HAVING TEETH and good breath so I do it. #rantover read more

I am a big baby when it comes to going to the dentist and they have seen me cry many times. I'll never forget the day I showed up for my first filling and they brought out a needle and I hadn't realized I needed to get a shot in my gums. Tears started pouring down my face and I was panicking. Durisek came in and I asked if it was ok if we could reschedule and that I hadn't been prepared for the needle factor and he was not angry or annoyed, he let me know that it was completely fine to reschedule and that he understood. That experience made me a lifer at Open Wide. Nothing ever hurts, I just get anxiety about the entire experience. Being able to pop a Xanax for my anxiety and show up 30minutes early and sit in that massage chair really helps and everyone there is so nice and never judgmental. My hygienist Ashley left and so yesterday I got someone new which was stressful in itself but she was absolutely amazing and made me feel comfortable. She seemed quick and efficient and seemed to love her job and the people she works with. Thank you Open Wide for putting up with me over the years! ;) read more

IV went to open wide for 8 + year Dr j ruined my life And mouth, dr d stepped in to fix My bad dental work ,from prior dentist there, and had to redu everything!!! Then after the crown was replaced,i was brutally sore and infected 2 yr, Dr d sent me to a partial specialist, yesterday and i was told alllllllll My work needed to be f,,,,,, removed, Wich is 6,000$ down the drain well after over 20,000$ And 6 yr of work, i Will have 3 teeth du to wrong choices from the dentist,, I'm in tears And now have to get denture's IL never in my life walk into that office again notttttt after the specialist yesterday told me alllllllll the Damage that was done du to the work i regret ever trusting them read more
