My first time here (recommended by a local) and excited to check out their Mexican food. Interior is clean and bright with the posted menus having large print (helpful with my older eyes). My friends and I were not sure what to order and because there was no line behind us we felt it ok to ask questions about the menu items. I was surprised when I asked (the chef/owner I believe) if the tacos were like the size of "street tacos" he looked at me and replied seriously he did not know what street tacos are. Huh? I only wanted to gage how much to order. I ordered the mushroom enchilada with mole sauce which was an ample size and quite tasty. The mole was flavorful- a bit sweeter than I'm used to however. The accompanying rice and beans- black beans were creamy & tasty, the rice was quite bland. We also ordered chips & salsa (they are not complimentary) and the chips were nice and crispy which I love. We ordered the Sangria which was yummy- $12 a glass is more than I typically pay. My friend had the shrimp tacos which were good but didn't have much more than shrimp in them. My other friend ordered a carnitas burrito which was enormous and she said delicious. My friend asked if they offer a birthday dessert (we were celebrating my birthday) and we were told no. We ordered the flan anyway to share amongst us- it had the perfect texture. We also tried to order coffee but we're told the coffee part of the restaurant was closed which we found surprising. Had an amazing lunch, we spilt the vegan mushroom tacos, and pumpkin cheese tamale, both were delicious. As was the chocolate fudge cookie - it was still warm and deliciously gooey. Service was fast, and everyone was very pleasant. I can't wait to go back and try the empanadas- they looked so tasty I stopped by another table to ask what they were eating. I was at the Sonoma Mission Inn this week and afterward I stopped by Sonoma Eats for lunch, and am I glad I did! The authentic Oaxacan food is so delicious. Chef Efrain and Haley are warm and friendly and truly welcoming. The fish tacos are a must try, along w/ the pepita dip, hibiscus agua fresca, guacamole and I took the yummy mushroom enchiladas home. Everything was spot on, and the oatmeal raisin cookie was sublime! (note to self: next time I must try the chocolate chip w/ sea salt cookie) You can taste the love in every bite of Efrain's menu. I. Love. This. Place. The best way I can describe their food is to say, "it's clean, flavorful, and filling". They absolutely get it. The best Mexican food in Sonoma hands down. Drove a half an hour to try the Oaxacan Mexican Cuisine. The highlight for me was a set of three Lamb tacos. I never had lamb tacos before, it's silly to say this is the best I've ever had. But it was one of the BEST tacos I've ever had, very thin shells that were slightly flexible, the insides were 90% lamb that was not only tasty but melt in my mouth great. I think I got to eat 100% of each one, where normally I have "some to eat and some to wear" when the extra ingredients end up on my sweater! I was sorry I didn;t order the Oaxacan Chicken (enchiladas?) that the gal told me was one of the three top sellers along with the lamb tacos. If I could I would knock a 1/2 star off for the dessert. I got the last flan of the day and it was a bit dry. Probably my problem was that I haven't seen flan on the Mexican menu in so long that I had my sights set too high. I couldn't find any mention of inside tables on the menu, but they were there. Eating outside in 40 degree weather would have been miserable. They also don't provide advice on where to park. The lot is in the BACK. Coming from Boyes Blvd I should have continued across CA-12 E and the parking lot was on the right. Right behind the restaurant. The Google directions of 'turn right on to CA-12 E' leads you into a parking spot desert! The owner(?) painted a picture of a future environment that is a bit more restauranty and and little less truckstoppy (are those even real words??). That'll be big improvement in ambience. Right now it's the FOOD that should pull you here. read more

We've been coming here (at the other location) for years. The owner has always been the friendliest, most accommodating business owner. Food was delicious, as usual. However, two issues. Main one being the "hostess". Not the kind of person I'd want representing my business. Don't know if this was just an off night for her, but not pleasant. We ordered chips and salsa, and the salsa was not to our liking. Tasted like pasta sauce. I asked for some pico de gallo or salsa Fresca... something else, and she was rather rude... told me I could buy something else, which I agreed to, then she never brought it out. Sonoma Eats is a hidden gem. Service is always friendly and efficient. Food is delicious, using quality ingredients and is made to order. They also offer catering services and family meals Togo. Today I had the potato tacos. Soft and creamy potato filling wrapped in a perfectly crispy corn tortilla. 4 pieces per order. Restaurant is clean and parking is easy. Dip was good, birria was decent, a little oily for my tastes. The enchiladas were quite frustrating. They smelled incredible and the chicken filling was tender, but it was so salty! Salt to the point that it interfered with the flavor of the mole. The rice was even saltier, nearly inedible. Not sure I would try again. read more

We drove past a bustling Mexican restaurant about a block away and chose this one because it wasn't crowded which my gut told me to turn back but I was with my elderly mom and I wanted her to get seated quickly. There were 3 people there at lunch time on a Saturday. We ordered the torta, mole tamale, special tamale and chips & trio salsa. Ordered at the counter left a $10 tip total with one drink $85. I'm thinking this better be fire. The salsa was puréed, flavorless & bland. Just boring The mole tamale was very dry, crumbled with a slight touch of the fork & flavorless as well. The other special tamale was a tad better still very boring but you could slice the masa with a fork. The torta was better but still not worthy of ever coming back. It had crumbles of ok seasoned meat soggy in the middle bread with mayo blobbed throughout. The jalepenos were beyond mild just absolutely flavorless. If I were blindfolded I would had guessed it was a boiled twice bellpeper maybe. It had really zero flavor. The whole meal was very disappointing and to have paid that really irritated me. We live in town. We've been meaning to try it for a while. We stopped by today. The ambiance was nice and chill. When we pulled up, you could smell the mole in the air. You order first and pay, which is fine. Got myself an Arnold Palmer, which was good. my wife got a mazapán cold coffee, that was very good! I ordered a wet super burrito de chorizo. The green sauce was very good, zesty. I have the sauce on top a 8/10. The size was 10, the quality was 8/10. So definitely hit the spot. My wife got a Benedict on croissant, with country potatoes, but they were like chorizo country potatoes. It had pickled onion. Over all I gave it a 8/10. I could def see this place like something out of San Francisco, if you know the vibe sometimes they go for over there, somewhat hip but on the chill side. It's definitely more of a nicer Mexican food joint, not so much a taqueria vibe. So definitely a place to go have a conversation over some food. read more

Met a friend of mine and his son for lunch and he chose this spot. Have to admit I was a wee bit confused when I walked in because I saw more the coffee house than a restaurant. But oh my the smell of the beans almost made me want to get a cup. I stopped drinking coffee over 2 years ago :) Once we approached the counter I could see the restaurant menu. Nice choices but I fixated on the fish tacos. Simple dish, just 2 tacos a slice of lime and some cut radishes. Took my first bite and man! The fish was on point. Just the right amount of batter. Crispy and the fish was flaky, soft and perfectly cooked. It truly tasted fresh. The drizzle on top had just the right amount of kick, nothing overbearing. With a dish that yummy no reason to do anything other than keep it simple. If I'm back up in that area I will for sure return.
