I am a longtime wine club member at Sonoma Cutrer, along with a friend. We had 6 high school girlfriends coming in from all over the US (Maine, New Jersey, Spokane, San Diego, Pasadena, Chico) for a weekend in the Sonoma Valley. We scheduled a tour, wine tasting and croquet. Oh my gosh! Michael and Dustin, our tour guides, took us on the most amazing, informative, beautiful tour around the Sonoma grounds, and then into the wine making "cave". Dustin then treated us to a delicious tasting experience. His humor and friendly personality, along with his magic tricks (!) just made for an excellent experience. (Unfortunately, ran out of time for the croquet game...another time!) Our friends just loved it, and kept thanking us for the fun day. Thank you, Dustin, and to the winery. We stopped in recently for a tasting and with the less than idyllic weather from the rain earlier in the afternoon, it seemed a lot less busy than usual. The winery is super easy to find just off Slusser Rd near the south corner of the Sonoma County Airport and there's ample parking. The grounds are absolutely beautiful - they have a huge patio overlooking two large croquet courts, views of one of the estate vineyards and plenty of trees. Due to the weather, we tasted indoors and were greeted with a glass of rosé. The tasting included 4 wines, 2 chardonnays ('21 Russian River Ranches and '20 Cutrer Vineyard) and 2 pinot noirs ('19 Russian River Valley and '19 Vine Hill). Wine is a highly personal thing and although I personally felt the wines were average and weren't a good value given my perception of their quality relative to price, this isn't at all reflected in the rating because a lot of people also love their wines. Our host was extremely accommodating and very friendly - in fact, everyone that was working was extremely friendly, but this is a big production tasting experience and didn't have the same intimate atmosphere or super knowledgeable staff that you would find at a much smaller producer. Our host, while very friendly, did not seem to know the wines that well, instead handing us printed material for basic information like the vintages of the wines being served, style of winemaking, etc. If you drive just 10 more mins to Westside Rd and do a tasting at Gary Farrell, the experience is just night and day - small, intimate atmosphere, very knowledgeable hosts, etc. There isn't anything wrong with this type of tasting if that's what you're after, but I think we prefer something closer to Gary Farrell on the experience spectrum than Sonoma-Cutrer. read more

Great wines, nice people, excellent location - highly recommended. Been there multiple times and previous events. Would normally get 5 stars but their annual member event on May 13, 2023 at 11 AM needs improvement. Ran out of food with long lines and served rare hamburgers that boardered on raw, which did not happen in previous years. OK, one hiccup, so I highly recommend the place and will go back without hesitating. Tried to provide feedback quietly, and the rose/sparking wine server person said she would forward my "criticism." Not exactly the way I would recommend handling feedback, and the event planner was not available for me to speak with. I left the rare burger behind , so they can see what they were serving guests. Hope all learns from this experience for next year. read more

Cat was our server and was wonderful, she explained how the different types of grapes prefer different growing environments and made us feel completely at home. As we sat there enjoying the wines in the pastoral setting of the Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards, we realized we wanted to stay a lot longer and enjoy the beautiful day in this beautiful setting. So we ordered the Cheese and Charcuterie box and another glass of wine, both delicious and stayed a while longer! Excellent winery! I spent the afternoon with some friends there and did a wine tasting package. I'm not usually a fan of Chardonnay, but the two we tasted at Sonoma-Cutrer were wonderful. Catt was a wonderful host, very knowledgeable. She guided us through our wine experience. I was thrilled with the late harvest Chardonnay! Absolutely wonderful! They may as well change their name to "Sonoma Couture" because this winery is stunning! All I need is some good wine and a nice view to make me happy. Sonoma-Cutrer gave me just that and then some! I came here with a friend on a wine tasting tour and we were both incredibly pleased with this winery. First of all... the views are just spectacular! It feels like the Vineyards are just endless when you're looking at them from their patio. The estate itself is vast and includes a large croquet lawn near the entrance. They provide an ample amount of outdoor seating, both covered and uncovered. Their indoor tasting room is super lively and has a beautiful fireplace that is suitable for those cold winter days. I took a peak at their reserved tasting room and wow! Such a gorgeous setup in a serene and private room. During our visit, we tasted their mini grilled cheese and tomato soup which was decent (an event exclusive). But the wine was what got me going. We tasted four of their wines, 3 of them being Chardonnay and the last being their Pinot Noir. Can you guess which one was my favorite? They are known for their smooth tasting Chardonnays which I did find to be quite enjoyable. However, their Pinot Noir was my absolute favorite! The grapes from this Pinot Noir are grown in the Russian River Valley. It's a 2015 with strong earthy notes and dark berries. Despite its' dark berry composition, it goes down silky smooth with a very light finish. Yes, I super enjoyed this and would happily have it again. Their heritage tasting fee is $15 and their bottles are moderately priced between $28-$40 each. The wine stewards were super friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, we had an excellent time and would definitely come back again when in the area. read more

One of the best Chardonnay Houses on RRV. That's Russian River Valley for anyone outside of Sonoma County. The wines are exquisite with delicate notes across the spectrum of excellent chardonnay. You like a lean and balanced Chardonnay they have it. You want more depth and richness their barrel aged nectar is as good as it gets. There is also something unique here that really can't be explained and you just have to see it and maybe get in a game if you choose to play. I'm not going to ruin the surprise but it is unlike anything I've seen on this scale l, yet you probably played this when you were little with a brother and sister in the Spring during Easter in the yard! read more

My Son and I arrived just before closing and we thought, well let's just ask if we could do a quick tasting, but we really thought they would turn us away, when we walked into the tasting room we were greeted by Jeremy with a great big smile and he said not to worry we will get you started right away whew...we got so lucky, Jeremy was an absolute delight! I was ready to adopt him and take him home lol. My son told Jeremy that it was my birthday and then Jeremy asked me if I wanted him to sing happy birthday to me? I said sure and he has a beautiful voice I was thrilled what a treat he was. We started out with a beautiful glass of Champagne their first champagne ever for Sonoma Cutrer and it was delicious and at a reasonable price, then we tried a flight and we were so happy with the service aka Jeremy and the wine, well guess who's a member lol. The grounds are beautiful and they have shipment parties which are so fun food,snacks & activities games and everyone is so friendly. The tasting room is clean sleek, modern plenty of room to sit or stand while having some wine. They have a huge deck with tables with umbrellas that overlook a big bocci ball court. I've been a fan of Sonoma Cutrer Vineyards for 20+ years now. This winery used to primarily specialize in Chardonnay, but they have recently expanded production into a Pinot Noir. I continue to be a huge fan of this winery! Sonoma Cutrer Vineyards is located in Windsor, California, nestled between two very big wine fields. On the grounds of the vineyard is a very prestine croquet field where they hold annual world-championship tournaments. Reservations for tasting is typically suggested, but not full required. $10 a person tasting room fee; 4 tastes. We entered the tasting room and was greeted by Scott M., the vineyard's Wine Educator. Scott has been with the vineyard for several years now and knows the history of the vineyard and all of the other distinguished wines in the region. When Scott was first hired (he was 2 Wine Educators picked out of almost 300+ applicants), he suggested that the tasting venue be a more formal experience. He got his wish. When you do a tasting, you sit at one of the five elaborate dining tables and place settings of 4 tastings are presented to you. To start, there are four general grades of Chardonnay made at this vineyard: The first chardonnay is Sonoma Coast; typical table wine and can be found in your local wine shops or big stores like Target and BevMo, etc. $21 a bottle. The second (higher grade) chardonnay is the Russian River Ranches. The third chardonnay is the Cutrer. The fourth chardonnay is the Les Pierrer. At the current tasting, there were 3 Chardonnays and 1 pinot noir presented. The first Chardonnay was the 2009 Russian River Ranches. This chardonnay is a very nice and crisp chardonnay, and has won something like 27 out of 27 years of "the best glass of chardonnay" in numerous taste tests. Flavors of honey, lavendar, mango, pineapple, and caramel. $23.00 a bottle. The second Chardonnay was the 2007 The Cutrer Chardonnay. This was my favorite Chardonnay of the tasting set. This is a classic California chardonnay with tastes of kiwi, honeysuckle, creme, with hints of toasted almonds, caramel, and figs. To me, this chardonnay was buttery and smooth. $35.00 a bottle. The third Chardonnay was the Les Pierrer Chardonnay. This wine is made in the traditional French style of wines with tastes of apple, sliced pear, butterscotch, grapefruit, and toasted nuts. This wine has character and a bit of an edge to it, which most people like. $32.00 a bottle. The fourth tasting was 2007 Pinot Noir. I was FLOORED by this wine (in a good way). I'm not a big Pinot Noir drinker because I feel that the wine is typically very thin and lacks flavor. But, I tasted the Sonoma Cutrer Pino Noir and almost did a cheer! It has flavors of blackberries, anise, and rasberries. It has a very smokey taste. Scott mentioned that meny people who come to their vineyard for the chardonnays actually leave with the Pinot Noir. (I was one of them). $34.00 a bottle. Scott M., the Wine Educator, knew that our group liked the Pinot Noir and he allowed us a taste of the Founder's Reserve Pino Noir. WOW! The wine was full bodied and had a nice deep smokey fruit flavor on the back of the tongue, leaving residual hinds of fruit and nut after swallowing it. YUM! $50.00 a bottle. Scott M. was perhaps the BEST Wine Educator that I've seen in Napa Valley and her surrounding mountains. He was very calm, intellectual, funny, and forthright with his presentation of wines. His presentation of the wines, the quality of the wines, and the classy service made our visit a great experience. We ended up purchasing 3 cases of the wines because it showed so much uniqueness and class. Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards - I will continue to be a loyal fan of your vineyard. Job well done! read more

What a delightful visit we had! We came on a very hot day. 97 degrees! We were greeted by Donna O. who gave us wonderful background knowledge on Sonoma-Cutrer's beginnings and current expansion. Afterwards, we were escorted to a covered six seater cart. Donna drove us around the grounds. We tasted the different grapes, learned about the soil and new vineyards soon to be planted. This was great and the grapes were refreshing. When we returned to the main area, the rest of the group toured another part of the winery while I stayed in the cool indoors. After they returned we were led to the tasting room. It was set up with our flight glasses. We began with the white wines. They were all delicious! Soon afterwards trays of dried fruit, nuts, cheese and crackers were delivered on each end of the long table. Next, came the red wines. We started with the Pinot Noir. It was full bodied and tasted well on my palate. After all of the tasting was finished we decided on what to take home. We appreciate Donna for expertly guiding us through every part. We really enjoyed our visit to Sonoma Cutrer. This is a beautiful winery! When we arrived, there was a note on the table welcoming our party personally. It was a very nice touch. What stood out for us from other wineries we visited that day was our server took the time to get to know our palates and truly tailored the experience to us. He realized that we would rather enjoy wines other than the usual Chardonnay and Pinot that you were locked into on the tasting menu. We were able to enjoy a rose, a sparkling and several different chardonnays that he felt best worked with what we shared we like. James was our wine tour lead and did an outstanding job and showcasing and taking us through the vineyard as well we learned a lot about the geography and what and how it's used to make to maximize the wind potential.
