The WINE, the wine, the wiiiiine! It is absolutely incredible!!! I can't believe that this wonderful winery doesn't have more reviews. We were blown away by our entire experience here. Stuhlmuller is definitely a hidden gem! Came here with a friend for a tasting about a month ago, and we had a FABULOUS time! Their tasting room is located off the beaten path. The drive down Soda Rock lane is so beautiful! I had NO clue that this place was tucked all the way down there! Their grounds are the cutest. Their building is reminiscent of a bright red barnyard and the setting is extremely intimate. They've got comfy picnic tables that overlook their vineyards and the mountains. Colette was our host and she was outstanding. She was such an expert in the wines and detailed each one to the tee. She did a side by side pour for a few of the wines so that we could really taste the difference. This was one of those tastings where each and every wine just got better and better as the tasting went on. She started us off with Sauvignon Blanc. Traditionally, I've never really been a fan of Sauv Blanc, but even THAT was tasty here. Very minimal oak with a nice crispness too it. That's precisely how I love my white wines. And speaking of their white wines, ALL of their Chardonnays were fantastic. Even my friend who despises Chardonnay fell in love with the ones here. We found them to be delightfully floral, citrusy, and crisp. Perfect for summertime sippin'. As if their white wines weren't already enough; we went cray cray over their reds! Their Pinots, their Zins, those Cabs. Dayum... ALL were incredible. Most of their wines are small lot, small production, and single vineyard varietals. This is some high quality wine, folks! And let me tell you about their ZINFFANDEL!! Thejr Zinfandel definitely stole the show. We were hooked. Their 2016 Estate Zin was the ooooneee! We bought bottles of that. We had to. It was just that good. In fact, we ended up opening a bottle at Diavola for dinner that night. Yep! We could not WAIT to open that damn bottle of wine. It was absolutely delicious!!! While we were tasting, we had a little picnic and brought sandwiches from a local deli. This is definitely the perfect place to bring a picnic! Furry friends are welcome here too. It's such a relaxing atmosphere. It never got crowded but the few groups that were there were super friendly and seemed to really be enjoying themselves. When we stepped inside to check out the tasting room, Bryan took us on a little tour of their barrel room. I would have never known that an actual production site was hidden back there. The service is just top notch here. You will definitely get intimate and personalized service. Tastings are $20 and are waived with two bottle purchases. And TRUST me, it's sooo easy to buy at least two bottles here. Hell, you'll probably come out of there with much more than that. So impressed with Stuhlmuller! I will without a doubt be back again for more of that scrumptious wine. read more

Brenda and her cohost were absolutely welcoming and accommodating for our group of 20 (we had reservations). The wine was delicious, loving the Sauvi B and Reserve Chardonnay. Phenomenal wines for the value, it's located down a very long and quiet road which I love. It's a serene place to pass time. The patio surrounded by nature is extremely inviting. I seriously love all of their Pinots and Cabernets. Their Chardonnays are my favorite and I rarely drink white wine! Amazing and super friendly staff, they always pull out all the stops. Be careful if you join the wine club. Watch your credit cards carefully. We had a very bad experience this past week. They charged our CC even when we had quit their wine club over a year ago!!!They accessed a brand new debit card, which my husband had NOT authorized. My husband called their wine club admin and was told that they had 'updated' their software all stated with a snarky attitude. Well, people, this is pure nonsense and lies. What they did is illegal! You cannot update anyone's CC information without their authorization. They sent us wine as a 'gift' for their mistake. While this was not necessary, it was a ploy to placate us. However, we did not receive a verbal or phone apology nor acknowledgement that they had really messed up. Still fuming. read more

The wine event was very nice. Love their wine. Everything was wonderful until we went to pay for our spring release and decided we would buy 6 more bottles (mixed) that was posted on board for $94. We needed to wait in line for awhile and witnessed other members take advantage of this "special ". When we asked to add to our purchase we were told that was a mistake. Told her that's what it states and that's what we wanted. She licked her finger and eraesed the price. If she knew it was wrong it should have already been corrected. Very disappointed. read more

This winery is my dad's favorite winery. Every time we go to this winery, we spend almost more than $500 there. This place is a bit hard to get to, you're on the main road and you turn off on a dirt path road and you just have to keep going until you find the left turn into the winery. There is parking there, but you're just parking on rocks and dirt road. It's not a big deal, but your car kind of gets dusty. They have a few picnic tables for people to enjoy their food and wine. The first time I went there, we got to go on a tour and they showed us everywhere and everything including their big giant barrels. Their grape vines are nearby from where you parked. My mom mentioned she wanted to taste a few grapes and the nice guy took me outside to get them. It was a SUPER hot day, but he was nice enough to give my mom a few vines of grapes which tasted super yummy. They have a good selection of red and whites, but mostly reds. But still good enough for us to spend quite a lot. We joined their wine club and we get invited to their parties (for a fee), but we never go because it's kind of far for us. But we try to make it up there every year or year and half because we love trying their wine. The ride up there is not too bad, it just takes awhile because we're coming from the peninsula area. Stuhlmuller Vineyards is located on the southern border of Alexander Valley- to the adjacent north of the Russian River Valley appellation, and to the adjacent northwest of Chalk Hill. Their riverside Chardonnay vineyards benefit from the cool morning fog of the Russian River. The Cabernet is grown on the slopes off the river. The Stuhlmuller's bought the vineyards in the 1980's and operated the property solely as vineyards until 2000, when their son Fritz achieved the dream of establishing an estate winery on the property. The style is rich and crisp, cool climate Chardonnay; and approach-ably bold and balanced Cabernet. It's a great little spot in the middle of the vineyards- in a tucked away part of Alexander Valley. The modest tasting room looks into the winery. We were treated very well by Fritz and his staff. As for the wines, their estate Chardonnays are great. Very balanced with only partial oak aging and malo- well priced too. Killer estate Cabs too- very balanced with good depth, lush fruit, and very approachable. read more

This is a "road less traveled" winery and worth the extra effort. The hosts are very knowledgeable and offer the right amount of detail about their wines. I found their chardonnay exceptional and the reds serviceable but not outstanding for the vintages. I respect the family name on the label and any place that can grow estate fruit. Been up to the Alexander Valley 100 times plus, but I never knew this place was here. Very pastoral. Out on a farm. Lots of land by the River. And of course, the wines are excellent. Might be a tad hard to find, right before the Russian River Bridge on Alexander Valley Road heading east, but what a great place for a very peaceful picnic with 4 1/2 star wine. this wine is not Opus, but hell, at one quarter the price, it is a value. Wines that sell for $20 here are of very comparable quality to those that sell for $30 or more at places out on the busy roads. Take the ride down the bumpy little road and find this place. It has charm. It has peace and views and quiet. read more

Every now and again I have to tell the world about some of my favorite wineries. And Dog gone, Stuhlmuller is one of them! I first encountered them will dining at Cyrus in Healdsburg and I asked the sommelier (Who may have been a Stuhlmuller employee) to "give us a wine that paired well with the meal being served." I remember many things about that evening, but most importantly, the wine. It was exquisite! And I was determined to make my way to Stuhlmuller Vineyards. So glad I did! Potential buyers and fans should note that this place is by appointment only. Most of the grapes grown by this vineyard are sold to other wineries, however, they keep a good but small stock to sell under their own label. Jacque, our steward/tour guide was as wonderful as the wines. Buyers should also know that you can make a day at the winery! Located in a bucolic setting they sell wine by the glass and have a picnic table for guest to enjoy. One of the great joys and concerns of living in California is that January can be beautiful (68 degrees, clear skies, daffodils in bloom...kind of crazy, but beautiful) and well worth a picnic lunch. They have no wine club but don't let that stop you from getting on their e-mail list and purchasing as you please. Trust me, you can't go wrong here! read more

A truly special experience. Six of us arranged for a tasting at Stuhlmuller and were treated to some of the finest California wines we had all trip. You know when someone builds an experience up and it can be either very right or very wrong? Stuhlmuller exceeded expectations. Leo showed introduced us to their wines and was generous with his information and his pours. A big part of visiting Sonoma for me is hearing the rationale and the passion of the wine maker themselves. Yes, you can run from store front to store front and get sloppy drunk. But, this was intoxication on a whole other level. Surrounded by not much other than grapes, mountains and dirt roads, Stuhlmuller is as much an escape as a good spa. Something good for the soul. We each left with a bottle. My only disappointment was that I could not afford more. read more

This was a wonderful experience. We walked in without reservations after we realized we had booked something on the wrong day and now had some free time. Ed was our host and he made the experience truly a great time. He is full of information about wine, the vineyard, and his life travels. It was fun to chat with him and hear about it all - it certainly enhanced our experience. We also got to sit outside next to the grape vines on the patio - in the sunshine and under an umbrella. It was the perfect setting. Later in the same day we went to a very large vineyard and the whole group agreed our experience at Stuhlmuller was better. It was much more personal and charming. The wine tasting was also a great price ($20!) and not one of the wines was bad. The reserve Chardonnay was the favorite with my group and we purchased a bottle to take home. Have been visiting here for years, but sadly they've become inhospitable. Stopped there yesterday and it was empty but we were told we couldn't use any of the patio tables, we would have to sit at some rickety old picnic tables away from the tasting room in a gravel area. We had parked at the end of the building in the shade but were told we couldn't park there because the owner might want to move some barrels (we were 20' from the door). We didn't buy any wine and left there with bad feelings. Now I feel angry I bought wine there a month ago for my friends wine club sharing. We enjoyed our tasting at Stuhlmuller and ordered a case to be shipped back to Massachusetts; however, we never received it. The winery tried shipping it three times; each time it was returned en route. They blamed Massachusetts shipping laws, but I've had wine shipped to me from other vineyards both before and after that time without any issues. We finally got so frustrated that we asked for a refund. It's a nice place to visit, but we were really disappointed with their follow through. read more

This place is down a 2.5 mile road, off the beaten path for sure and so worth the drive! The beautiful red barn which inhabits the tasting room and winery sits among acres of acres of vines! We brought a picnic and enjoyed a glass of wine with lunch and them did the reserve tasting. So great to taste wines that are only available at the winery that are very small production wines. We were able to walk around the vineyard, into the winery and check out the barrel room. We even got a few bonus pours that were off the menu. Good music, wonderful atmosphere, great hospitality too! Years ago we were huge Fritz fans, and bought lots of his wines. Recently we returned expecting to load up the trunk with more. We were disappointed with merely passable wines that we suspect were being sold too soon. Most were just a couple years old, and the reds, which we'd previously loved, not very mature or distinctive. They were also getting much of their grapes from others; previously they'd grown all their own. There was something just "unspecial" about these wines, especially considering they were selling for fifty, sixty, seventy-five dollars a bottle. I could get the same tasting reds in BevMo or Safeway for $10. That wasn't stopping others from loading cases into their Range Rovers and Mercedes Benzes, however, so maybe it's all about the illusion of luxury rather than the actual grapes. read more

Summit Five Chardonnay was creamy and tasty; did not care for the "sour" zinfandels. Cabernets were better than the zins but again nothing special. Right away I loved the rustic industrial decor as well as the barn tasting room. We tasted with Andrew and we were very impressed with the wine itself & with his knowledge of the wine. He was friendly and even helped us figure out a few other places to go see and taste in Alexander Valley.. We had a great day we also didn't have an appointment and he was finishing up for the day and he still talked with us and made us feel very welcome! We will be back! read more

Visited 7/6/13. First and foremost, it's a little ways down the road to get here... Not that that's a bad thing! And for full disclosure, I came to find some Chard for my wife, I personally don't drink the stuff. So: I pulled up to the TR and it's already full, no room at the bar at all. So I settle into a nearby table. Immediately someone comes out from behind the counter to welcome me. ++ for that. So we start doing the flight with 3 Chards, 2 of which - Summit 5 and Reserve - I think the wife will like (buy 2). Win so far. Move on to the Estate Zin; that's good but a little too jammy for me. Next come the the Alden Park Cab (good), the 2010 Estate Cab (better - buy 2) and the 09 Reserve Cab (good but a little bitey for me and too expensive). Left with 4 bottles, only 2 of which are Chards; from a house that's known for Chard. I call that a sucess! Worth the drive, you just might be surprised at the non-Chard stuff. read more

If a beautiful Alexander Valley setting and fabulous wines appeal to you, Stuhlmuller Vineyards is the place to go. The vineyards surround the adorable tasting room with a picturesque view of the Russian River Valley and mountains a short distance away. Andrew greeted us in the tasting room and was charming, friendly and full of information he was eager to share. My husband and I love big hearty reds so the Estate Cab Sav was absolutely perfect. We were also impressed and wonderfully surprised by the delightfully complex Roger's School House Zinfandel. And, although we don't normally go for whites the Estate Chardonnay blew us away with its light fruit flavors and clean satisfying finish. The whole experience was a dream. The estate is stunning, each person we met was kind and happy to share the Stuhlmuller story. We'd go back in a skinny minute, but live on the wrong coast. Go there! Good news, we learned we can get Stuhlmuller wines at Wegmans and might need to place another order.... Enjoy. read more
