Thankfully the wine is good, otherwise would say to avoid this place at all costs. It was the last winery of the day, called to make them aware we would be late. Will acknowledge that we did book for a group of 5, but since it was the last winery of the day decided to split 3 tastings (trying to be responsible which we were gaslit about stating he now has to "explain to the owner"). First of all, it is a standing, rushed tasting for $40/person. Be ready to "slam" your drinks when the pourer is ready. Leo, the wine "educator" did nothing but make us feel as an inconvenience the entire time and have no actual knowledge about the wine. Did not "educate" on anything. Any question asked was dismissed or ignored with some rude comment. Made a point to blame the owner for cracking down multiple times. Refuses to open anything else to try unless we were planning on buying multiple bottles; which don't worry he made sure of! Everywhere else we have gone is more than happy to open anything. When asked about any other wine he would just point to the back page, no "education" or information provided. He was rude, condescending and dismissive. He showed us the cave and when asked how it was built, ya know, making conversation? he said "I'm not an engineer, I have no idea." And walked away from us. Maybe they wouldn't be so strict on the wine and make more sales if they actually were nice to the customers?? Went into it thinking we would buy a case or 2 of wine, not from this guy. We went on such a rainy day, I think we were the only guests on the estate! We went for the most basic tasting, but our somm Justin was patient and welcoming, setting the perfect tone from the beginning. The hospitality was off the charts, as we got to see the unique egg chambers used for aging wine and a tour of the wine cave - my first time! And on top of that the Arancini was to die for! We have been coming to this winery for 4 years and have always had a great experience. Wines are delicious and they serve delicious rice balks with the tasting experience. Staff is knowledgeable and courteous each time we have been here. However, I must say that yesterday was quite a surprise. The person serving us, Leo was very condescending, not polite and even attempted to "challenge " me on a few occasions. It is a beautiful place to visit! I was looking for a dog friendly and picturesque winery. I am very picky where I spend my time and if I don't feel welcomed and comfortable I just leave. I drove through a beautiful driveway which was surrounded by beautiful trees and saw a green lawn with roses, round guest tables and umbrellas. Each table had beautiful mini flower centerpieces, stainless steel wine buckets for ice and your choice of white wine. I saw a staff member walking with a small rustic pizza and I said, "that looks good!" I asked the staff member if the place is dog friendly and walk ins are OK. He was very friendly and explained how things work in the winery and that walks in are OK and dogs too. I headed inside the tasting room and Justin greeted me at the counter. I loved the beautiful ambiance of the tasting room and the friendliness and hospitality of the staff. Justin knew a lot about wine and explained the subtle details about each white wine I tasted. I ordered a mushroom pizza. My little furry friend/dog was also welcomed and felt peaceful and calm while I was tasting wine. Once I was done with my tasting I got my pizza order set on the patio table outside. I smelled beautiful roses, my dog loved the lawn and pizza was very good! I also went to the wine cave/cellar which is a beautiful venue with rustic wood tables, leather couches, wine barrels and beautiful ambiance. The coolness of the cave is soothing on a hot day and it felt so good! I loved the quality glassware set up on the tables tastefully and I would host a wedding, an anniversary, bridal shower or a birthday party here! This winery has been on my list for a very long time, but I seldom taste in the area therefore hadn't yet been. A wine pickup party nearby was the perfect excuse to finally have the chance. We stopped in without a reservation at around 11 on a bright, sunny Saturday, and they accommodated us without any issue. We had a good time. Overall: A nice, small/medium-sized winery with beautiful grounds for which you don't have to have a reservation. That alone makes it worth the trip. Add to that reasonable pricing and a friendly, fun staff, and you have a place that is worth a detour. The Good: Well marked and easy to find from the road. The drive up to the tasting room is beautifully manicured. Heck, I'd love to take a picnic lunch here. Tasting room is on the small side, but has enough room to accommodate 10-20 people comfortably. The two gentlemen pouring that day were both knowledgeable and engaging. The wines were very good, and the prices are reasonable. The cave looks nice (from a distance) as well. What a lovely winery and really delish wines! I went here recently with a large group of about 16 of us who had gathered in Sonoma for a work reunion. We did a seated tasting in their cave and it was a fabulous experience. For starters - it seems everyone that works there is super happy - what a delightful environment they provide for their guests. The tasting was accompanied by a few nibbles of nuts, dried fruit and bread - it is always helpful to have such things during a tasting. Oh yes and a lovely chocolate truffle at the end. I actually liked all of the wines we tasted which is unusual but particularly enjoyed their Pinot Noirs - from Star Ridge and Baker Ridge vineyards. They also had a lovely Rose of Pinot. With over 500 wineries in Sonoma County alone, it's easy to get a little jaded when you live here and spent many years in the wine industry. Thankfully there's places like this that make you remember why you live here and like to go wine tasting. While their wines are pretty good, what really blew us away was the pizzas! We got a few and they were some of the best pizza I have ever had. Super tangy and interesting marinara, high quality cheese, perfect crust, and a great array of toppings. Vincent, the head chef, came out and talked to us a bit and his passion for cooking and food in general was oozing from his pores. We sat outside in their garden, shaded by the trees and kept cool by a small breeze, we enjoyed the soft music from the speakers and the calming sound from their water fountain while sampling chardonnay's, pinot noir's and nibbling on their house made pizza. Matt, our host made our experience truly exceptional, he was available, educated about TG wines, the world of wine and was lovely to chat with! When I asked if we could try the chardonnay's and pinot noir's side by side Matt was happy to meet our request! Matt made time to talk with us about the vineyards, answered our questions about vineyard management and listened to our tasting notes and then shared his. We had a reservation for a wine tasting in the cave. We had one small taste and then our host left us sitting in the cave for over 20 minutes before coming back to pour our next taste. We then waited over 25 minutes for our next pour and actually had to go across to the front building and ask if he forgot about us. The pizza was delicious but we were not able to pair it with our wine as we didn't have any and didn't want the pizza to get cold . The wine is good and I would have joined the club but the poor service turned me off. I have never had this happen at a winery where the host leaves and has to go to the other building to get a wine to pour each time. Disappointing visit read more

I am only reserving one star because to purchase the wine here is a pretty penny. That being said, the drive out here is beautiful rolling hills of Sonoma County. The house and area around the tasting room is still under a bit of construction so it is not at peak fabulousness, yet, but I know it is getting there. The tasting was SOOO good here. For $5/pop you get a very generous tasting that was enough to make myself and my girlfriend a bit tipsy, we shared. They have some really beautiful wines, one I walked away with has flavors of banana and creme brulee! YUM! Good stuff to be found here. Thomas George Estates has some of the finest wines in the Russian River Valley. The creativity of their wine maker, Chris Russi is legendary. Our favorite of all their wonderful wines is the Baker Ridge Pinot Noir. Try all their wines though. They're focusing on Pinots but Chris also makes totally yummy Zinfandels. The staff is ultra friendly as well. Their wines tend to be in the $60 range, but well worth the money. This is one of the few wineries that not only has outstanding wines, but is a great place to go for a picnic too! Bring some food and have a lovely time in their gardens. Cheers! read more

Certainly the most unique wine tasting location among the ones we went to in this area. The wine tasting room is in a cave! Apparently, this is green way to store the barrels and does not require a lot of additional cooling as the wines age. The grounds are beautiful and they had lovely music playing as well. We really enjoyed taking a little walk around the property. The wines were good and they had an option to do reserve tasting for $20 that included a small food pairing as well. You can take a walk around the cave and they have some thingamajigs including a looong table which are interesting to check out. read more

This was the first winery Mark C and I stopped at during our Wine Cube Tour with Raymond (whom we HIGHLY Recommend). This was our first experience tasting at a small production winery and after our experience all I can say is WOW what a difference that can make. Their tasting room is moderately sized but there is ample room to "belly up to the bar". The employees working behind the counter were very pleasant and even though the tasting room had just opened when we walked through the doors, we never felt that we intruding. We tried a selection of 4 wines - 2010 Vionier (Dry Creek Valley - crisp with no residual sugar), 2010 Chardonnay (aged in oak, stainless steel AND concrete egg shapes) as well as a 2009 and 2010 Pinot Noir. I have to say that the Vionier was my favorite but surprisingly loved the Chardonnay - I think that the three different production processes allowed the wine mellow a bit. Also loved that the bottles we purchased were put in reusable bags - better than a paperbag as well as a great souvenir Unfortunately they were setting up for a wedding and were unable to visit the caves but we did get to take a peak. Definitely something to try and see if available. Wines are a little "pricey" but this is one instance where you pay for what you get! read more

We happened to see the Thomas George "cave" sign as we drove by one day, so decided to check it out. Happily, we loved the place! The tasting room is indeed in their newly built caves. We were impressed with the friendly and knowlegeable staff, as well as the generous pours. The wine is superb... We especially enjoy the pinot noirs here, but the chardonnays and zinfandel are also worth taking home with you. Thomas George Estates is a fairly new winery along Westside Road in the north of the Russian River Valley- the historic former site of Davis Bynum. Jeremy Baker, a Toronto restaurateur, purchased the winery and the estate vineyards in a family partnership in early 2008, and completely renovated the winery complex. They're developing three vineyards for an estate program- Baker Ridge-above the winery, Cresta Ridge-in Green Valley, and Starr Ridge-in northeast of the Russian River Valley appellation. The winemaker is Chris Russi, formerly of Christopher Creek Winery in Russian River Valley. The winery and tasting room are modern and upscale-contemporary in feel, with beautifully appointed grounds. There's much attention to detail-with the feel of a facility tied to a touring business. The wines were consistently enjoyable- bold fruit, good balance, some finesse, integrated oak spice- solid and consistently Russian River Valley in style. I tasted a nice assortment of whites- Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Chardonnay- all with bright fruit and minimal outside influence. I'm definitely bummed at having to write a negative review for this place. The grounds are nice, the staff is nice and their wines tasted very good. But our overall experience was poor. We signed up for a Thursday mid day single vineyard/Pizza tasting. The wine and pizza were great, but our service was very slow. What should have been a 45min. tasting turned into an 1 1/2 hr experience, AND WE WERE THE ONLY ONES TASTING OUTSIDE! The "splashes" of wine that our server Clay appropriately called them were small and while their were 6 wines, the time between was very long. We actually would have been ok with the "splashes" of wine if they had arrived in a timely manner. Our pizza wasn't served until our 4th (first red) wine. Also, the splash of wine with the pizza was gone in a minute. We literally finished our pizza for two, before our next splash arrived. What should have been a wine tasting with matched wines, turned out to be a pizza and water tasting. It completely ruined the pairing of food with their wines. We always buy a few bottles or half case after tasting, but we had a very sour taste in our mouths at the end so we purchased nothing. The only winery that we visited in three days that we did not purchase anything. Unfortunately, we will never be going back to this winery or recommend them to our friends or family. The most frustrating aspect to this was that with just a bit more wine with the pizza and a little more attention, this tasting could have been great. But with so little wine poured (which was also a bit expensive) and us just sitting there most of time with nothing in our glass, this was a huge disappointment. One final note, while we did not purchase wine, we still tipped our server Clay well. Not sure if he deserved it, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt. I was in town for a family event and wanted to taste their current offerings, with an intent to buy 1-2 cases. We arrived with a group of 9 adults. Although there was room for several people at both of their tasting stations, and we agreed to split up, they told us that they couldn't accommodate us. They suggested that we buy a bottle and sit outside. This clearly was not what we wanted. I explained that I am on their email list and that I've bought cases over the years. The "Hospitality" representative, Lauren, came over and told us they wouldn't help. There was no suggestion, such as waiting a few minutes until people left. They just told us to go elsewhere. I will never buy their wine again. Very rude and condescending. In response to the comment. I absolutely did not call anyone an idiot. Surrounded by a variety of trees, the estate is located near the west end of Westside Road (one of the most beautiful drives in Healdsburg). This is my favorite winery in Sonoma County. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. There are picnic tables where you can bring a picnic lunch and have a bottle of wine. My favorite of their wines is the Pinot Baker Ridge but I love all of the wines I have tasted so far including Grenache, three kinds of Pinot Noir, Blanc de Blanc sparkling which is like a really good champagne. The wine tasting is in a cave across from the main building and is tastefully appointed with comfortable and cozy feeling furniture. Talk about ambiance! I was sipping delicious wine with my dog on my lap in a wonderfully friendly environment. Our group of 5 women had such an amazing time visiting Thomas George, tucked away off Westside road and away from the crowds. We started out with a wine tasting in the cave, going through all the current releases. The Pinots were delicious and we all bought several bottles. We then took a walk up the trail in back of the winery into the vineyards which offered unparalleled views of the whole valley - wow, what a sight. Strolling through the vines and chatting with my friends in this beautiful setting was so special. We finally toured the immaculate grounds, from the gorgeous trees in bloom, the cute chicken coop - there are so many spots to stay and have a picnic. I can't recommend this winery highly enough, friendly staff, delicious wines and stunning grounds. What more could you ask for. read more

This is a review about their event and wedding services, disregard if you are interested in reviews strictly about the tasting room experience. This WAS a good place to get married under the previous events coordinator, Sara, but since Jennifer took over... STAY AWAY. First off, I want to acknowledge that the site it beautiful, the location is optimal and the value is excellent. I visited over a dozen wineries and nothing else could beat TGE. My wife and I originally contracted with Sara in late 2013 for our August 2014 wedding. Sometime after we established a contract, Sara moved on to greener pastures and Jennifer took over. Here are a list of things I can remember that Jennifer did to truly ruin our wedding experience. -Tried to charge us extra to use the very small outdoor lawn for cocktail hour, when Sara had already told us it was included. I had to console my crying fiancée after she got off the phone with Jennifer who was extremely rude. -Didn't acknowledge my existence on my wedding day. Is it too much to ask to atleast get a "Hello, congratulations, let me know if I can do anything for you". -Tried to kick my guests out of the cave library which we PAID to use. -Threatened to tow my guest's cars if they left them at the winery overnight (Really???? You are encouraging my guests to drink and drive?!) -Confronted several of my guests for parking at the vineyard. Not sure what the big deal is here, but how about voicing your concerns through my wedding coordinator and not pissing off my guest prior to the start of the wedding? This is just my list of things I can remember. If I asked my wife about the problems she encountered with Jennifer, the list would be much longer. All night my guests were coming up to me saying "wow, this place is beautiful and all, but who's that lady in the glasses, she is extremely rude". Yeah, imagine having to deal with those complaints all night when you are trying to enjoy your wedding night. My recommendation? Get rid of Jennifer and promote John, he actually has interpersonal skills and was the only saving grace on the service aspect. read more

Got 2 tastings for us, and our party had an additional 4 tastings comped from a wine club member. The manager Nancy was our tasting room host who provided zero info on the wine or any information regarding what makes Thomas George so unique. In fact, Nancy had zero enthusiasm for her job and when we returned for our next varietal to taste, she seemed labored to pour us anything, again no information about the wine whatsoever. Once finished with our party we went back to her to check out and pay for our 2 tastings since the other 4 were comped. She said it would be $30 for both (each at $15) or pick a bottle over $30 and both tasting fees waived. We picked out the pinot reserve $42 and she said our total was now $60 something and now she would just waive 1 tasting fee not both......Unclear. Fine. We paid and settled. We stood near to have the other members in our party grab some wine from Nancy if they wanted to purchase a bottle. One member in our party felt bad of our experience and said to Nancy, "I'll pay for her tasting". But we had already paid, and Nancy had no problem charging her additional $15 after I said repeatedly we already paid for ours. She ignored me and didn't refund the $15 to our member in our party. Nancy pretended we didn't pay for ours and took the money and moved on to the next customer. Wow. Nancy, maybe work on your customer service skills and basic math. Being a manager of a tasting room like this I am so disappointed with your behavior. Avoid this place and check out the other local spots- don't waste your money. read more

However, I feel that this place has changed (I used to be a club member as well) as the tasting room servers seem totally disengaged (are they just out of it being in the dark cave all day long or what?!). Also, they now charge $15 for a tasting fee and even then you only get the fee waived if you buy a bottle over $35. Give me a break already! Skip it. Of the 11 wineries we visited on our trip to Dry Creek Valley/Russian River, this was my least favorite. We were there on a Tuesday, so we did not taste in the wine cave. It was a $15 tasting fee, which was the highest of any place we went. The fee was eligible to be waived on a bottle purchase of over $35 or more. However, 2 of the 4 wines we tasted we conveniently priced at $34...seriously? The other two were $60 PNs. For $15 we were only allowed to taste 4 wines...making each tasting $3.50 each glass!! The tasting room lady kept saving, "I wish I had more open for you...." clearly she knew it was a lackluster offering.
