It's been about 5 years since I was last at this property. Fourth of July weekend in wine country is alway a good thing. We had a tasting set up but a little miscommunication with booking worked out when we arrived. It was early for our tasting so it wasn't too busy when we arrived. There was already a group there when we arrived. The property itself is beautiful. Basically everything in wine country is amazing. Checked in at the counter where we were started off with a nice cold glass of white. A little starter before heading to our table. You could stay and do a tasting at the counter but with it being so nice out and tables were set up along the lavender farm, it was a given. Their tasting menu consisted more reds which we were perfect with. 2 of the cuvée and 2 of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Everything was quite tasty and went down very well. The gal that took care of us was quite sweet and extremely friendly. Explaining everything to the tee. Making sure that everything was detailed before we started. Of course being sister members, we were able to have a tasting for four that was included. The last time we were here, they graciously showed a little tour of the wine cave. It was quite cute in a hobbit sort of way. The cellar and private tasting rooms set up inside were very nice. The property is beautiful. Outside tasting room was quite pleasant with the nice covered tables and the lavender farm. Of course the vineyards in the background, beautiful. Until next time. read more

We had an appointment at Lancaster Estate Winery and really enjoyed the experience overall. We started in one tasting area and then moved to another, and although there wasn't quite enough staff available to accommodate sitting outside, we ended up in the cozy indoor tasting room which actually turned out to be a nice, intimate setting. The Malbec was absolutely to die for rich, bold, and easily one of the standout wines of the visit (and yes, it's priced over $100 a bottle, which says a lot about its quality). We were definitely impressed. I also purchased a Sauvignon Blanc for $37, which was crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a hot summer night. I'm really looking forward to enjoying it later. What stood out most was the elegance of the winery and its beautiful grounds. Had a great experience at Lancaster Estate Winery! I called ahead and spoke to Frenesi and she assured me of a good time as long as I made it by 4pm. I made it- given time I have a tendency to doddle er find something to do Lol. I got there and tasted the Sauvignon Blanc which is made with 1/3rd in neutral oak, 1/3 in the egg (concrete egg), and 1/3 in Stainless Steel. The result was lovely- key lime, limestone chalk and had some tropical fruit notes, fleshy mouth feel with a lingering finish. Then she set me up outside at a table. Tasted the house cuvée of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon. Then another Cab, the Malbec was exquisite, full bodied, soft firm tannins with blackberry, plum, richness and depth, great wine! Then compared the 2019 Cab with the 2018 Cab and finally got a rare tasting of the 2016 Cab. All were excellent with all of the classic phenolic flavors you get with a Cabernet of this caliber. The dark berry fruit, the '19 has some eucalyptus, and old leather chair, bittersweet chocolate nibs, cedar, nuanced oak and a long beautiful finish. Exceptional tasting! read more

The property is beautiful and the wine is delicious, unfortunately the staff in the tasting room didn't have the customer service to match. We are members and booked a tasting to celebrate an anniversary (which was on our reservation) we were told to sit where we like and when we tried to sit we were told only one table has been cleaned, they said we could run our fingers across the table to see if it was too dirty or not, no offer to clean it or let us clean it. No mention of the anniversary either, overall disappointing. read more

The young guy who assisted us (I can't remember his name but he had a tattoo on his arm) was absolutely incredible, went above and beyond to make our tasting special, making us feel special. He was incredibly funny and knowledgeable and we left not only with some great bottles of wine, but with some post-it notes with info on what kind of wine I might like and to look for, as well as food recommendations in Santa Rosa. This guy is a gem, treat him well folks! We will 1000% be back. We felt like the wines were a little over-priced; the one we would have bought was only available in half-bottles or large format. Definitely get in if you're in the area and have the time! One word of advice to our super friendly server...I'm sensitive to it as a consumer (maybe some love it?) but over-use of cutesy names for guests can be a little overwhelming and off-putting. Great tasting experience hosted by Emily at Lancaster estate. It was a sunny and nice winter day and we able to do our tasting in the wine cave, the presentation and setup was beautiful. The wines and story behind each bottle we tasted was great and interesting. After a brief description of each wine, Emily would pour the next and after all were poured she gave us time to ourselves to enjoy the the wine and experience in the wine cave. I have been a wine club member for 2 years after I visited here and loved their wines. They are incredible, truly. And I have always highly recommended this place to so many of my friends. Due to COVID, I have lost most of my business and am struggling financially. Back in March of this year I had to start making major adjustments to my budget. With hesitancy and sadness, I called the Wine Club and canceled my membership. Last week, a shipment showed up at my door and my credit card was charged. I called today to discuss this. I have never been treated so poorly and so rudely in a customer service situation than I just was from the Wine Club "Concierge". She argued with me, did not take responsibility for the club making a mistake, and ended up yelling at me on the phone. I am horrified by the way she spoke to me. As much as I love this wine, and so much enjoyed my experience when I visited, I will never recommend this winery to anyone ever again. There are many wineries with good wine, and I will choose to go to and recommend places where they treat everyone who walks through the door or calls them on the phone with respect, kindness, and understanding. Lancaster failed miserably on this today. read more

So disappointed. Because of my first experience at this place me and my friends became members. I'm a memeber of the entire Foley Family and my girlfriend wanted only Lancaster .... We were so exited for our weekend wine trip with our high school girlfriends (class of 83) and we were able to book Lancaster. Our booking was for 3pm. We were in at the St Helena location Foley Johnson. Tyson advised us that he would call Lancaster and let them know we would be arriving at 3:30 for our wine experience. We make our way back across the valley to Lancaster and was 6 mins late (3:36). Upon entering the the check in room the lady immediately looked at us very sternly pulled out some wine glasses and rudely told us she can only pour us one tasting. We didn't even know what that meant.... But she does not explain why and continued on to ask if we still wanted our preordered cheese plate. Well of course we do ... we were starving and looking forward to everything we expected while at Lancaster. She poured our wine then we went out to our seats .... Waiting for the next pour .... I remembered her (lady who checked us in) mention she could only pour us one tasting - i guess we realized at this time we knew what she meant..... She came out a few times to talk to us after we complained to another person that she was rude .... We received our cheese plate and after a few mins of waiting and waiting we asked her if we can get our second pour. She then advised us it's past 4 and they have to stop at 4. I looked at my watch and it was 4:04. She said she didn't want to loser her job.... So between 3:36 and 4:04 we had one pour of the first wine which was not even good. If she knew we could only have one pour why didn't she offer to pour the best wine. Maybe we would have bought a case or two if we liked it.... Anyway.... The experience sucked. I get boxes of wine shipped every month but now I'm excluding wine from this location because that Byatch was rude. This happened on October 14, 2022.... And oh by the way... there two ladies came in after us and they got two pours ! I'm never coming here again. If she didn't lose her job over not pouring after 4pm hopefully she loses it before being rude and unbecoming of hostess. read more

If you like "big reds," then Lancaster Estate is a stop you should consider on Chalk Hill Road -- a great "back road" near Healdsburg. The tasting room is on the small size and might have felt cramped if there had been a crowd. On a late morning, midweek March, DH and I were one of two couples there. Luisana was our pleasant and knowledgeable tasting room sales associate. I was disappointed that their one white, a sauvignon blanc, was sold out. That is my favorite white. We tasted four notable cabs. We began with Sophia's 2016 Hillside Cuvee, a blend of cabernet sauvignon, malbec, merlot, petit verdot, and cabernet franc. It was still on the young side and perhaps our least favorite of the day and also the least expensive at $60. The Lancaster Estate 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon was named a Top 100 Wine of 2017 and had 94 points from Wine Spectator. It was our favorite of the day. $90. The Lancaster Estate 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon was another highly rated wine: 93+ points from Wine Advocate. Same grapes as the 2014 wine, but different proportions. $85. On the lighter side was Lancaster Estate 2016 Winemaker's Cuvee. 94 points from Wine Advocate -- and the most expensive wine of the day at $95. We purchased only one bottle at Lancaster. Not that we didn't like the wine, we did. But it was all a bit on the pricey side, and we had pretty much reached our limit for this particular outing. Could be fun to return to Lancaster during warmer weather: the patio area looked very inviting as did the cave. read more

Great wine country vibe! If you love bold reds, this is the place. We came on the day of the Winter Wonderland event so technically they were not doing drop-in tastings but they opted to pour us some wines anyway and spent time telling us about the winery and wines. They have a small, cozy tasting room and a gorgeous cave that was overrun with drunk people. It's a great place to visit on a regular weekend, outside seating as well. read more

Lining the drive into the Lancaster estates are rows and rows of vines waiting to produce delicious wines! As you pull up, you first notice a huge wooden door entering a hill. Upon entering, you're greeted with 2 rows of wine barrels on display down the sides of the hallway. A small tasting area on the left is full of bottles of wine in a huge display. At the back, you'll see various vats and huge barrels where the wine is fermenting. Duncan was our server and his knowledge of wines for amazing! His humor was enlightening. He seemed very comfortable talking about all the wines and their subtle differences. This was part of our pre arranged tour and it did not impress! The wines were delicious and the surroundings on the outside patio area with the vines in view topped off the 1 1/2 hours we spent there! Even had a small cheese tray to tide over before dinner! First off we have been a Foley family wine club member for over 10 years. We have been members of Foley, Lincourt, and have recently changed our membership to Lancaster for the great experiences and exceptional wines we had in the past. This was a Mile stone birthday (the big 40) and we wanted to share this experience with a group of our closest friends. Prior to this tasting we've had conversations with Liz your Tasting Room manager, about the day and our plans. There was never a mention that you could provide food for us and never mentioned that we could not bring food, as we mentioned we were looking for ideas for lunch. Our first experience from Liz that day was oh there looks to be a lot more then we were expecting. Our original reservation was for 13, but My wife's father had a last-minute change in schedule and fortunately was able to make the trip with us, for her birthday. Being berated for having one more person in our group, was not the warm greeting we were expecting from Lancaster especially as a Lancaster member. The entire attitude from liz was one of her doing us the favor and even told us we're lucky they could even accommodate our group on a Saturday. A couple days prior to our tasting we tried to get a hold of the Tasting Room to let you know about the one edition but no one answered the phone. The day of the tasting we tried to get a hold of your Tasting Room to let them know we had one additional person and that we would be bringing boxed lunches. Again no one answered your phone. Our tasting appointment was for 2 PM and our schedule worked out well that day and we're about 20 minutes early. The hospitality did not get any better from that point as Liz also informed us that no outside food was permitted anywhere on Lancaster grounds and especially in the wine Cave where they had set up the tasting for the day. I'm not sure if this is a new rule but on your website it states that there are picnic areas available to bring your food. Instead of directing us to an area where we could eat our lunch we had to stand there in the 2 PM sun for 20 minutes until the cave was set up for our tasting. Once seated in the cave she again informed me she would have to check with someone to see if we can have our lunch with our wine. Another 20 minutes Past, where we were just sitting there with no wine and not eating our lunch. I finally went into the Tasting Room to speak with our hostess Taryn to give her our wine order and again ask about the lunches. She then informed me they never allow outside food inside the cave at any time, unless we wanted to buy seven more bottles. We were required to buy 12 bottles (even though members) to reserve the cave. If there was a minimum of wine to purchase for us to "eat"in the cave that would've been fine but should've been communicated to us immediately, but now it feels like I'm being extorted. Buying more wine was never a problem for us, and we were planning on buying an additional case before we left but this experience changed our mind quickly. The attitudes of both your manager and your hostess are not ones we expect or have had the experience with before from any Foley winery, let alone one of your flag ship brands This experience is making us question keeping our membership with Lancaster. Update: Elizabeth "Liz" did reach out with a phone call to ask about our experience. If her goal was to make me feel worse about that day, and further regret our decision to go there for her birthday, she succeeded. Instead of asking what our expectations were, or how they could have done things differently, the call consisted of her chronicling her prior conversations with my wife, and fees they did not charge us for. Once again making us feel as they were doing us a favor, when in reality they embarrassed us in front of our closet friends. The friends in our group consisted of a top executive from Under Armor, a partner in one of the top marketing companies in Austin Texas, the Head of Information Technologies from a Minnesota fortune 500 company, and a Legacy member of Foley winery. Every one present was shocked at how poorly managed the situation was. read more

They were not doing any tours in there today but I saw pictures...Someday I hope that I can tour it. I had the opportunity to visit this place because Barrel Tasting 2017 with the Wine Road Events. They are very welcoming as soon as you are checked in. The wine maker was very kind and knowledgeable. Her blends were fantastic! We met her, Alicia. So young and so talented. Her Sophia was remarkable. Blackberries and Chocolate. Very smooth! Her cab was amazing as well. She had two barrels for tasting. So passionate about her wines that you appreciate them even more! READ: This is a gorgeous winery with beautiful wines BUT, and this is a big BUT, one must know about the astronomical price increase Foley placed on these wines in the last five years. We bought a 2103 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon for $75. Now the 2018 is $145 The Winemaker's Cuvée had an even bigger mark up from $45 to $125. Other wineries we belong to only had an average of $5-7 increase over the last five. I was told the major reason for Lancaster's increase was to position the winery higher and so Foley can offer 40% off specials. So my advice is DO NOT purchase these wines at regular price. They have been artificially inflated in price. Other wineries in their portfolio have had similar dramatic price increases. Lincort is another one in Solvang. Better to join Roth or Firestone and take advantage of the reciprocal benefits at their other wineries. read more

I surprised my husband for his birthday with a private tasting and tour at this beautiful winery. Larissa was our host and was so lovely. We started in the tasting room and then were taken on a tour off the wine cave. Inside, we continued tasting and learning about the wines they made. We previously had not enjoyed reds too much but with Larissa's guidance and expertise, we found ourselves having new favorites and bringing home several bottles. She even made a call to a sister winery, Foley, and told them to expect us. We enjoyed another tasting there as well. This was not on our original list of wineries to go however I couldn't be happier that we decided to do one more tasting before we left. We were a group of 11 and I must say some of the other wineries weren't set up for us as we arrived even though we had reservations weeks in advance so my expectations were low considering we scheduled a 12pm tasting at 4pm the previous day. We were completely blown away. We arrived about 11:50 and received the warmest greeting from Taryn. She then led us out to a gorgeous patio table beautifully set for our tasting. Her genuine enthusiasm for Wine and love for her job is evident. She is knowledgeable, passionate and very descriptive when it comes to Lancaster wines. A tour of the wine cave, background on the estate & the family, beautiful grounds, wonderful tour guide! In our own private tasting in the cave, I enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the wines. In the tasting flight, I enjoyed Samantha's 2013 Sauvignon Blanc. My ultimate favorite was Lancaster Estate 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, which was fruit flavored, rich & smooth. I definitely want to return to do their wine & cheese pairing. Hopefully a ride around the grounds too since I heard they offer that. I can't wait to visit again! read more
