My 2003 Civic has a flaw that Honda knows about: the tumblers inside the driver- and passenger-side door locks fail over time. Eventually you will be locked out of your own car because the key won't work anymore. Honda wanted me to pay more than $600 to have the locks redone. Screw that. Because there was a power-lock system in the car, I took it to Sonic and for $180 got a keyless fob system installed. Problem solved. The Sonic guys were great, thorough, fast and friendly. Fit me in the day I called. I bet they're as good with audio as they are with keyless lock systems. And their location just off Route 50 is a bonus for Northern Virginia. read more

Let me first start off this review by saying that I was happy to give Sonic Sound a five star rating. As soon as I walked into the door Kevin (the owner) and his mom greeted me with a smile and a very warm welcome. I took my Nissan Coupe into Sonic Sound to get my windows tinted and was thoroughly impressed with the customer service of the staff, the cleanliness of the store and the job they did tinting my windows. Kevin took the time to explain the process and the product they use to tint windows and made me feel comfortable with being there. Kevin even showed me the tint I wanted on three recent cars they just serviced to ensure that was the percentage I wanted and I liked that. The price to tint my windows was great and I even ordered some Weather Tech floor mats for my car while I was there. My car was ready before the estimated time and Sonic Sound did a great job and I will definitely be back if I want some rims, new stereo or something else. Sonic Sound came highly recommended to me by my Lexus dealer, Pohanka Lexus, so if that doesn't already tell you something good, I don't know what does. I wanted to install a remote start for my 2012 Lexus, which was the last year my ES 350 came without remote start as an option, and Pohanka didn't have anybody who could install, because they did not make an OEM remote start for that model year. The second my car was no longer covered by its power train warranty, I high-tailed it over to Sonic Sound and ultimately so happy I did, because Kevin (owner) and his very skilled and professional crew did an excellent job ...such an awesome job I came back to them on a few more consecutive Saturdays to have more customizing work done to my car, and each time the work was done as good as, or better than I hoped! They provide a lifetime warranty on their installation. The remote start (I highly recommend getting it with Viper Smart Start with GPS) works great! Next I got my windows tinted to the maximum legal limit in VA (they will advise you what it is) and their work was very professional and well done. (Lifetime warranty for any bubbling, peeling or fading). Then, I replaced my OEM halogen fog lights with brighter LED bulbs (they sell a nice bulb set or you can bring your own). I got some other minor customization work done - just talk to Kevin about what they can and cannot do for your car. While most jobs take a few hours, and you'll want to arrange to drop off and pick up, they have a nice clean shop, with leather couches and a TV if you wait. A couple of *years* ago, Sonic Sound installed a stereo in my car. It worked great. Recently, when I started driving any distance again after the long lockdown, it turns out I had forgotten how to listen to audiobooks through the stereo speaker. I got a 2001 ES 300 used in 2006 and have loved it, except that it doesn't have in-dash nav. A friend had a good experience at Sonic so I stopped in and asked what options I had. They looked my car up and recommended a Kenwood unit. I also asked if buying the item elsewhere (I was thinking Amazon or eBay) and bringing it in for installation was an option, and they had no problems with that and gave me a fair labor quote. They were informative about all options without being pushy. In the end I decided to buy the system from them, and have them do the installation. They did a thorough inspection of my vehicle to make sure I knew what issues already existed, and then performed the installation, and walked me through the features after the fact. All in all I'm thrilled with the purchase - feels like a new car since I now have in-dash nav/bluetooth/HD radio. read more

For awile i wanted to put HIDs and tint my windows on my civic and i was getting mixed reviews from friends about where to go. So i decided to go to a shop in springfield that someone told got thier tint done cheap and the guy there gave me a quote for $200 for my 2 door. I was like "WHAT". Its only tint and i asked about HIDs and they told me only $100. Price sounds fair for what it does. Then they told me that they will charge me $125 to install it. I was like the F*#!. At that point i gave up cause them claimed to be the cheapest in the area. My brother told me to go to Sonic Sound where he takes his car all the time and to ask for Kevin. I went over there ask spoke to him and he was very helpful. I asked him how much would he charge me for the tint and HIDs. The qoute he gave me was nowhere near what the other shop told me. I guess i came in a good time cause they offered to do it right then and there. At the end i was completely satisfied. my car looked very good and the price was extremely fair. This is my 2nd time back at Sonic Sound. I called earlier in the day to make an appointment to get my new truck tinted. I was expecting to get an appointment for the following week but the guy on the phone asked, "can you come in today at 6?" Without a doubt I jumped on it and took that appointment. The first time I went to them was when I got my 2015 Santa Fe. Then I went back just yesterday for my 2018 Santa Fe Sport. I didn't spot it but the new truck has lighter windows in the back. When I said I wanted 20% the guy stated that the factory windows seemed lighter. Just to make sure, he went back to measure it and sure enough, it was lighter. He said that over the years, the factory tint has gotten lighter on some trucks. So he recommended a percentage for the tint that would be similar to the back windows. I went with the basic tint they had. Even though I had an appointment at 6pm, they took the truck in earlier while I went to have dinner. By the time we got back (roughly 30min later), the truck was already done. They did an excellent job. I'll be back with my future cars and I will recommend them to anyone who asks. read more

We had an intermittent problem with the sound getting to the speakers in our 2013 Mustang with a Shaker stereo with Sirius. After a few attempts to diagnose the issue they found it and were able to fix the problem(replacement radio unit) in the most economical way while listening to our request that the radio work exactly as it had before. Installed a remote start for me, and while there I asked about window tint and they were very patient in explaining the options etc, and no pressure whatsoever. Long story short: I'm a fan. Short story long, read on: Looking for a small, local shop to do a basic install in my wife's car (a 2008 Impreza Wagon), I recalled that Sonic Sound was up the road from me. I've done my own installs in the past, but condo life and hot outside temps means it is hard to do my own thing. I figured I'd give the guys at Sonic Sound a shot. Two big things stood out to me about my experience, which is why I wrote this review: 1) The shop had no open appointments, but they took the car on Saturday afternoon and got it back to me Sunday afternoon. That included the tint job I decided to have done offhand. I don't feel like they rushed to get the job done, but the car was finished before the Monday estimate -- that is cool in my books. 2) Most shops hate it/you when you bring in outside equipment: Kevin didn't even blink when I hauled in a box of gear from another vendor, and he quoted me a fair price for install. Sure, it probably included a bit more since I didn't buy from him, but that is fair -- it can be a total pain to deal with unknown equipment, etc., from random sources. That said, knowing that he carries decent stock, I wouldn't hesistate to buy from his store in the future. My dad has a small business, so I know how important quality and service are to keeping a good, happy customer base. I searched Yelp and Google and read the reviews about Sonic Sound before I went. Sure, there are a few lower ratings, but when you read the (mostly) illiterate ramblings, you can tell the other reviewers are uninformed, ignorant or likely stupid. I had a great experience, like most of the other reviewers I read: Kevin took great pains to talk to me about what they were going to do and he checked over the car for scratches, dings, functional windows, HVAC, etc. and pointed out what he found to me before he took the car. I think that is fair, and expected -- it protects both parties -- and I left knowing the car was in good hands. If you read the other reviews, what stands out is that Kevin and his staff bent over backwards when there were issues and, really, when there weren't. Hell, he picked me up (I live a short distance from the shop) so I wouldn't have to take a cab to get the car. I think that speaks highly of the business and Kevin's great customer service. The system sounds great and my wife is happy. No, this isn't your buddy doing an install for $20 and a case of beer, but the pricing accounts for the experience and quality you get. I am giving Sonic Sound 5 stars and I hope to do business with Kevin in the future. read more

I needed some speakers replaced in my oldish car. I work very near by and stopped by to get a quote on a whim. Quote was fast, I was offered everything from the basic speakers up to speakers that probably are worth more than the car. I asked how long, he said an hour. I asked now? He said can you come back at 3? I arrived at 3, car was ready at 3:45. Waiting room has some nice chairs but I wandered next door to the Goodwill store to look around. Probably the nicest Goodwill I have ever seen, well stocked with lots of international items. The National Foreign Affairs Training Center, a school for diplomats, is right next door. Fast, efficient, not expensive, and friendly. 1 year warranty on parts, lifetime on installation. read more

Had tint applied to my 2011 C300 4Matic Sport today. It turned out beautiful. I did the max legal tint (50 front/35 rear) just because, no need getting pulled over for it. I had an appt. for Wednesday but this morning got a call and they said they could accommodate me at Noon, which was great. The technician showed me my tint choices, and then was very thorough in going over my car and explaining what the tint will look like, and pointing out that a few scratches in the windows might show up more because of the tint. This was appreciated, and set my expectations. The waiting area is very comfortable, there are some places to grab food in the area. (a couple block walk). They said it was going to take 2-2.5 hours, but I think it was more like 1.5. They were really quick. Once the job was done, they showed me the vehicle, explained that the tint will cure, and the few streaks and bubble will go away as it cures (they are all gone already). They explained the lifetime warranty (any bubbles, cracking or fading, bring it in and they will take care of it) They even put these reminder stickers over the window controls that say "Don't lower windows for 3 days". Just an extra touch that shows they are very detail orientated. Overall A+ team, experience and service. Great job guys!!!!! I highly recommend Sonic Sound. Sean K. read more

Kevin and his guys are great! I had them tint my car last year, and they even redid the sunroof due to an installation error at no charge. Yesterday, I had them install a full sound system in my Subaru which had a horrible system from the factory. I needed to keep my stock head unit, but they swapped out all the door and dash speakers, added a DSP and amp, and installed an 8" sub in the trunk. The difference is night and day! I can now hear all the highs, mids, and lows of the music I love as well as FEEL it.
