I always get a corn dog here as my one guilty pleasure. Today I ordered a cherry limeade to go with it. I decided to park and eat. My corn dog was hot and after applying some mustard took a bite. I wasn't disappointed as the cornmeal was crispy and fried perfectly with a bit of sweetness to it. My slush was very slushy and not too sweet. I've been coming here since high school. Aka when they still roller skated to cars. One of my first yelp elite events was actually here and it's cool to know that it is family owned. The food is nothing to write home about but what do you expect with fast food chains? I come for the drinks and good deals or if I'm ever crazy a strawberry Oreo milkshake. Their diet cherry limeade is my favorite and you can get it for a great price during their happy hour. Right now they're serving their seasonal peppermint shake and it's delicious. First, let me say, we LOVE Sonic! It's out guilty pleasure fast food. Sonic smashburger & pickle fries? TAKE MY MONEY. It has always been a decent experience here - save for chronically forgotten sauces & napkins - but today REALLY missed the mark. 4/16/25 @ 6:47pm, I ordered online and prepaid. Arrived at 7:04pm, just a few minutes after the app indicated my food would be ready. Parked and pressed the infamous RED BUTTON on the board, told the young man that answered I'd ordered online. He asked my name and said my food wasn't ready yet. I sat for 10 minutes and waited. No one came out w my food. Sat another 10 minutes and noticed a steady stream of people walking INTO the employee area w receipts & bags, so something was going on. I finally walked up to the server area and asked what was the wait, and was told I "hadn't checked in yet". I said I had spoken to someone 20 minutes ago and looked towards a young man, and that tells me he FORGOT about me, while my food sat getting cold. They offered to refund me, I should have allowed it but my family had not been waiting over 30 minutes for food and I just wanted to get home. So, I got stuck with cold, soggy food. I have frequently visited this Sonic with my family for years now. I thought I wrote a review here before. I still come back because their food is consistent and who doesn't love their milkshake menu?! They also serve later than other burger joints in the Sparks area. I have only had a few mishaps with delivery to my house, so I only come here in person. Food is served hot. There's a bit more of a wait, but I would rather wait then receive cold food. Service can be a bit slower if you're parked and order at one of their intercoms. They don't always work. I suggest avoiding this place when they have their happy hour. It can be a zoo, but if you're into that more power to you! I came by tonight to grab burgers for my kiddos. I really didn't want to wait in an In and Out line. It wasn't too bad of a wait tonight for three cheeseburgers and two milkshakes. Their Sonic smashers are delicious. I stole a bite from my son. I was bummed because they are out of mini cups, so I canceled my mini shake. I didn't want a small shake or I'd drink it all. Kudos to the staff for getting us through the line. The cars piled up behind me as I was placing my order. Suggesting bringing different forms of payment if you heavily rely on mobile payment. I noticed a sign that there wasn't any Apple pay. I was very pleased with the quality tonight, but that wasn't always the case here. I might have to come back for a smasher for myself soon. I can't attest to the inside of their restaurant since I've only been in the Reno location when I got my driver's license years ago with my friends. Decided to give this location another try. It's been over a year should be better. Nope. There was only 1 other car waiting. Took 20 minutes to get an ocean water and pretzel. As I sat at the window I'm watching 4 employees just standing in the middle chit chatting and playing on their phones. The whole reason I came to sonic was to get a drink with their ice. Every time I want Sonic... This one is an issue. Either they shut off their ordering on the app, the stalls aren't working or they'll say its open on the app and Google, you get there and EVERY SINGLE light is shut off except the inside with employees working, probably cleaning to go home earlier. Today, I went to get two drinks. Of course, their machines aren't working so they are directing every car to the drive thru, whether they are doordash or mobile order. Or, if you want to wait in the heat then you can go wait by there door. The person who opened the door today was EXTREMELY rude as it seemed like it was an inconvenience to get the two drinks ordered. When we left there were about 15 cars in the drive thru. It wrapped around the restaurant to the window and then leaving was a disaster cause cars were blocking the only way out around the building. My drinks were good, but the service.... Cashier was very friendly over the speaker, very polite and listened perfectly to my order! Sonic's is a drive through restaurant so there's barely any atmosphere or ambiance. Though I will say that they chose a good location to be in at the corner of a busy street. I ordered the Sonic Double Cheeseburger, an Oreo Cheesecake Shake, and some Tenders. The burger was okay, that's about it. It wasn't anything very special. They didn't even put very much lettuce or ketchup on it. The tenders were a joke. They were so small for the price and they weren't even all that crispy! The fries were under salted but otherwise they were decent I suppose. The shake was the best part of the meal, but mostly by default. It was pretty good and big for the price, but that's it. Overall a pretty lacking experience. If it wasn't for the low price and the kindness of the employee than this definitely would have been a 1 star. Go only for the shakes and maybe the other drinks. read more

Worst experience ever!! Tried on multiple phones to order thru the app and it kept failing. So we tried out online - success! Get to Sonic, park in a stall, and get our food. Right off the bat... We are missing two drinks. Check the food, missing the meals that match the drinks. I check the receipt one meal didn't make the order altogether and the other was just missing. I informed them we were missing items and placed an order for the items that didn't make the order to begin with. The reordered items made it to us before the missing items of the original order. Finally to our lunch destination, and we are missing all the sauces for the chicken meals. If we visit again we will just be doing drinks. read more

I have never had a large but thought what the heck let's do it. I get to the window and he asks how I am and I say OK and he of course says "just ok?". I reply bad day. The food at this location was good, but the experience overall was horrendous. We decided to eat outside on the tables. I pressed the button to order and about five minutes later an employee came out to take my order. He informed me they were out of jr hamburgers for the kids meal, but they would make it work. We received our food about 10 minutes later. Two out of three burgers were made correctly and we were missing items from our order. The kids meal had no toy in it and we weren't given any straws or spoons for the drinks. The employee had them remake the burger and gave us our missing items. I love sonic in general. They always have something I'm craving. There are not many choices in Reno, and this north Reno location is really all that's there, outside of sparks. It's very slow service here. I'm not sure why, and I hav been late at night, mid day, and morning. It seems to never matter, they are just slow. The reason I'm leaving this review is because we paid $0.50 for a sauce they didn't give us. The woman taking our order was also not very friendly. I know I should have checked the bag and it's not that big of a deal. It's just why I didn't give 4 stars. The long wait is why I didn't give 5. Other than that the skate staff is very friendly. Two stars just because my family really enjoys Sonic but we will not retire to this location. Today we pulled into one of the car spaces to order from the speaker. The driv thru had traffic but there were absolutely no customers that were parked. I ordered and the card reader was inoperative. 15 minutes later an employee comes out and says they "lost" my order. So she wrote it down on a piece of paper. Then 15 minutes goes by again and I realize two cars pulled in next to me on each side and ordered, received their order, ate in their car, and finished and drove away... at this point I push the button on the speaker and let them know I've waited for a half hour.. the employee on the speaker said she would give me one of the items for free since we waited so long. When she brought the order out, I asked , if one of the items were complimentary and she said "No, my manager wouldn't let me" Anyways I paid since I had a hungry child with me. read more

Always messes up our orders. Sometimes the service is awful as well, many rude employees. I fear for anyone who's allergic to something or cannot have certain foods due to religious affiliation to come here. I once came here and my shakes were melted. We ordered them at the Drive-In and waited ten minutes for them, only to find out they were sitting on the counter, melting. We came here today and our orders were completely messed up, except one drink. My shake had bacon in it, when it was supposed to go into a different drink. I have always loved this location of Sonic. But the past year and a half the service has really went downhill. Tonight staff making food was eating while making customer food, also checking their phone while making food, both against HEALTH CODE, and scrolling phone at the window. They close early without notice, and the last 5 times I have come here they tape a piece of paper on the parking order stalls, and say they are closed due to understaffing, come one, every time we come here? We were at a event to benefit Solace Tree which was very near and dear to the Cain family which hosted the event for Yelp Elites. Thank you Taylor for providing the site and for a very good cause! I got to sample many of their menu items like the corn dog, chili cheese dog, ched r peppers, mozzarella sticks, chili cheese tots and of course the tater tots and a first for their cherry limeade, real yum! I will be coming back for tater tots and the cherry limeade, those were my favorites! What a wonderful way to get introduced to some nice people and good comfort food. read more

Ugh, I wish I looked at the reviews before I went here but alas here we are. A few things here: 1. It took them 15+ minutes to take our order in the stall. (The drive thru was busy and I was like eh whatever cut them some slack even though the drive thru was moving quickly.) 2. The food took a while as well. We were there for about an hour in total. Just to get our food to go home. We weren't eating there. 3. Forgot 2 food items, 1 drink, and the sauces requested. 4. Pressed the button. Waited for another 5 minutes. Then just left because it was taking so long. 5. Our food was TRASH. The chili dog looked like the dog had been sitting out ALL day and was dry AF. The chicken wrap had no chicken in it. It was literally crumbs of bread. So I feel pretty robbed as they didn't give us all the things we ordered and paid for. HUGE wasted of money and time since the waiting wasn't even for fresh good food. The buns are soft and the chili is very good...kind of like the chili was at the old Pup 'N' Taco in L.A., CA back in the day. i had 3 of these with extra onions and with mustard...to compliment the chili. read more

This place is ridiculous. We haven't ordered from here in over 2 years. We gave them another try tonight and boy are we sorry we did. My chicken sandwich tasted like it had been fried in old, nasty oil. The lettuce and mayo were gross too. I had to throw it out. Their new fries were ok. Must have been cooked in newer oil. Thank goodness Chick Filet has the same ice and their sandwiches are pretty good too. No more Sonic for us. read more

So. Slow. It always takes a minimum of 7-8 mins in the drive thru, and even ordering ahead isn't quicker anymore. I ordered my 2 slushes at 1:35, it passed 1:55 and I was still waiting for my order to be brought out. I can never enjoy my lunch break if I decide to come here because I'm so worried about being late. It also wasn't busy. I have always had outstanding customer service. There is such a wide variety of slushes, shakes and slushies with ice cream. There is a variety of items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This place has really gone downhill, unfortunately. I haven't been since high school, but I went recently because I had a coupon. First of all, the line for the drive thru was 25 minutes. When I got to the line and told them I had a coupon, they gave me some weird attitude. Then, which I finally got to the window to get my order, he asked me if I had two cheeseburgers. When I said nicely that it was actually hot dogs, he rolled his eyes and walked away. Then, I asked if I could do Apple Pay. The shitty stoner at the drive through rolled his eyes again and said, "We don't do Apple Pay" and before I could say, "Oh okay, no worries!" He closed the window and walked away. I wasn't expecting a free meal or anything, but it would have been nice if he had said, "Have a good night" or something after I just waited 25 minutes.
