Food is just ok. It's fast food, so I don't usually get anything to eat. But, every Tuesday, I take my son here for a mini shake before his drum lesson. I can't tell you how many times I wind up behind someone that must order everything on the menu, and I wind up sitting there for sometimes longer than 7 minutes. But, the staff is always incredibly apologetic and so I feel bad in the end. You are better off going here if you have the time to sit and eat in your car. If I didn't have to, I would probably never use this particular drive-thru. read more

Went to sonic on Rt9 in Howell last night pulled into the space hit to order red button. And watched it blink on and off. Nothing tried it again and still nothing after sitting 10-15 mins of sitting in car and not getting any service or a car hop to come out. I had enough pulled out of spot and left. For novelty's sake, give this place a try! Just don't go in with high expectations... it's a FAST FOOD PLACE for goodness sake! Their cherry limeade is awesome, as are their other limeades. Definitely get their Chili Cheese tator tots with onions. I also tried one of their value burgers... I actually really like the taste. Slightly sweet bun, whole raw onions in their burgers, just the right amount of mayo. I hear their desserts and drinks are always worth getting, but it's too cold out here in the winter to justify ordering a limeade chiller. Maybe when summer rolls around again. For years, New Jerseyans have been taunted with images of Sonic's delicious looking and inexpensive slushes and sundaes, especially on certain cable networks (looking at you, MSNBC), but they weren't available here... until now. I've been to this Sonic a few times. Previously, I had only had the French toast sticks and the popcorn chicken (with tots, of course), and they were always pretty good. Today I decided to try the chicken strip dinner: four chicken strips, fries, Texas toast, gravy, and an onion ring. This time, the food was way off. The Texas toast definitely wasn't Texas, and was barely toast. The onion ring was barely cooked, the fries were bland, and everything was lukewarm at best... and my Powerade was about 80% ice. So, after a few good experiences and one bad one, what's the verdict? This place is okay. It's a little better than your average fast food place, with some redeeming qualities: breakfast anytime, half price slushes and drinks between 2pm and 4pm, and it's open 24 hours. That's more than can be said for most places in the burbs, save for the typical Jersey diner. Come here for a quick bite, but don't expect haute cuisine. read more

We have been there about ten times. It does'nt matter if you go through the drive through or park, you have a 98% chance that your order WILL BE WRONG! How hard is it to make a cheese burger with cheese, ketchup and pickles? Instead, I get home with a california burger which my hubby does'nt like! From then on, I now have to make the customer behind me wait to make sure that the incompetant teeny boppers did'nt flub up my order...AGAIN! My husband just got home with a Banana cream pie milk shake...I wanted, and he ordered , the Coconut cream pie milk shake. Should I even be suprised? I am lowering my rating based solely on the service and my most recent experience here. Pulled in and placed our order. Order is promptly brought out the my car. server leaves and we start handing out the food. we soon notice that they didn't give us one of our burgers. Ok, no problem, right?? I call them back on the speaker and inform them they forgot a burger from our order. The guy on the other end says ' I'll be right there to check the receipt. The manager says he put it in there" The guy comes to the car and I show him the receipt. He says ok he'll be right back. Now, while I;m waiting for the burger, I'm starting to boil, because they basically said I was a liar. He comes back with the burger and apologizes. I tell him, why don't you send the manager out here and I want him to find the burger he claims he gave us. Next time he calls me a liar, I'll shove a burger up his ass. The guys face goes white and he starts apologizing saying it was him who packed the order and not the manager. I said, well that's not what you said over the intercom. It was probably a case of the guy trying to cover for his own mistake, but don't pull that shit with me. read more

So with all the hype about this fabulous Sonic, all I have to say is I have had better, much better. 10 REASONS NOT TO GO TO SONIC. I take my friend and 2 yr old son,for lunch, we wanted to see what all the hoo-ha was about. Well, it was about....NOTHING. 1. We put the order in. We wait, and wait, and wait. They forgot about us. You CAN'T GO INSIDE. 2. We had to replace our order, on staticky speakers, this place is new? 3. They finally come with our order and the waitress has no condiments, straws, or napkins. She has to go on her little skates back in and get them. We wait again. 4.Meanwhile, we open our order and it was WRONG. 5. She comes back with the condiments, etc., and we tell her the order is wrong and my friends burger is missing. Back in on her little skates... 6.We precede to open the grilled cheese for my friends son, and low and behold. It's not grilled. Just cheese on white bread. WHAT? 7. She comes back again with the burger she forgot in the first place, and we tell her about the grilled cheese. Meanwhile, we know better, and we check the burger BEFORE SHE LEAVES AGAIN, and 8. THE BURGER is still FROZEN. are you kidding me????? 9. WE ARE STARVING AND THE BABY IS HUNGRY, ps. we couldn't even give him his fries, BECAUSE SHE FORGOT THEM TOO. 10. So the drinks were not the best. I thought that was the highlight. Root beer float, WARM.....SERIOUSLY. WARM. The only reason I gave them 2 star's and not 1 is because the sides were very good. Ok I will give it 2 stars because they have a happy hour for drinks. The limeades are great. The food is worse than fast food fare. Over priced, for what. Food takes for ever to get to you by some poor person roller skating to your car. I am surprised that no one has gotten run over yet. When granny and gramps take out the kids for hamburgers be careful they just might run you over crossing the street. Finally I had some girl on the intercom that was barely understandable or audible. I can't with this place anymore. I have that feeling whenever I pull up that I'm disturbing the employees. Before giving them your payment have them read back your order because even if you have to repeat yourself 2-3 times they'll forget something or add something that you didn't even ask for. Also check the bag before you pull off because it's irritating to get home or back to work to find they've left out the sauce all together even if you've asked for an extra one. read more

This place is a guilty pleasure. However, since it is fast food it can only get three stars. My favorite thing on the menu is the big toasty. Skip the fries because they are always soggy. If you are craving good fries try chik fil a or checkers. Also every Wednesday they have corn dogs for 50 cents a piece which is good for a quick snack. Overall 3.25/5 read more

I was just at Sonic on rt9 in Howell and was given the worst attitude by a redheaded female employee, on 9/2/17 at 11:00pm. She screamed at me when I asked for a moment to look further at the menu. She got loud over the intercom on the drive through, was so disgustingly rude. She waited to open the window so long that I drove away without my order. Sonic just lost money to Wendy's, Sonic isn't worth being yelled at by a miserable person working behind the counter. I won't be back. Never got her name, glad I didn't. read more

It's pretty cool to see everyone comes from afar to eat here, sorry it was a waste of gas for some people. I live about a minute away from this Sonic. And frankly, sometimes it's a waste of gas for me too. Haha. When this Sonic first opened, the car lines were out of their parking lot/the neighboring parking lot, and around the backs neighboring stores. Everyone wanted to see what all the hype was about for about 2 weeks. I waited, since I did not see waiting in line was worth it (being that I live right there) When I finally did go I got a Cranberry Slush which was very, very good. I still get it to this day. As someone already stated, the food is really not the best thing on the menu. Their desserts/drinks are really all the rave. Don't get me wrong - some of the food is good/okay but more often than not; it's not so good. Service? Well.. some of the car hops are sweet and nice and friendly and then again, some are not. Some of the drive thru attendants are sweet and nice and friendly and then again, some are not. I have a friend who works at this Sonic and she tells me that there are no such things as "cash registers" meaning they cannot type in how much money a customer is giving to give change. I think that's a little strange and probably causes some stress for people giving change being that they have nothing to fall back on except for their basic knowledge (which could be wrong sometimes). ANYWAY.. Last night I decided to go to Sonic since it is open 24 hours and everything else was closing up. We pull up to the car thingy where you sit and eat and hit the button .. "DRIVE THRU ONLY!" Okay, nasty. Don't you think they should have some type of cones/signs that say after whatever time, it's drive thru only? First rude comment of the night. (She could have been a little nicer with her attitude). So I go to the drive thru and proceed to order. She rushes me during the order, asking me 600 times if that will be all. Finally I say yes, forgetting a milkshake. I get to the window and there is no greeting, just a total being thrown into my face. I say would it be okay to add something? ... As the girl proceeds to throw her hands up in the air and hit the desk she's standing in front of, she says "Well what is is, it depends." (with a nasty tone in her voice). Well JEEZ, lady don't have to be so rude. She says she has to ring it up separately and I tell her it's fine. She huffs and puffs and gives us change. It's the wrong change. I tell her, she huffs and puffs some more and gives us the right change. As she's shoving this into my face now, she drops some money. "Oops, Oh well." I go to open my door and say, it's okay I'll get it. I get the money. As I'm getting it off the floor, she hands me the change again which she took out of the register. I take the money and I had the change from the ground and she goes, "Well if you're gunna get it off the ground I shouldn't have givien you the change." Shaking her head, and blah blah blah. She rushes us out of the drive thru, with her mean attitude My friends and I were absolutely appalled. We are giving you service! So YOU can work and have a JOB. Ah just writing about it makes me so angry. No one should ever, ever treat a customer in their place of business in that manner. And no one should ever, ever have to deal with such snottiness that an employee decided to portray. Cause I could have easily said to myself (which I will next time) is I'l go to White Castle instead. read more

Just got back from the Sonic in howell on this rainy night. we went to the drive threw and the car at the window was suck so they had to bring our stuff out. the girl on the speaker was very nice. the two girls that brought out the food was nice. Told us to have a nice night. HOt friday night date after 37 years. lol We first tried Sonic in Ga. a few weeks ago and just moved to Jackson in June so we remembered we had one also. Love that they have all beef hot dogs. I got the all american and root beer. hate the styrofoam makes things taste funny bad for the environment. My hot dog was not so hot. good but not so hot. my husband also said his two were not. chicago and ny. limeaide too much cherry. I do like food to be hot. read more

Attitude of person taking order at drive thru left alot to be desired. Had driven into parking spot and send button to give order broken/missing, so, went to drive thru. Advised gal of my order and of broken machine. She snaps back that they can't help what customers break! Huh? I'm telling her of their problem-she's telling me it's fault of customers. I advise her they should put up sign. "People will think we're closed"..huh? Went back and forth with her snotty responses. Then, silence ensues; she never told me my total. Should have just pulled out but was hungry. Pulled forward..she finally took money and when returning my receipt, gives me "sermon" on how they do not have money to fix broken speakers; high muckey-mucks apparently ignore their requests to fix things broken! Million dollar company can't afford to fix items they need to stay in business? Asked for name of manager.."can't..today was her last day and she's left already..". All responses still with attitude..very unhappy/dissatisfied employee at 3:30 PM, just before dinner crowd. "Make customers happy and just. at least, put up a sign on broken speakers..that's easy", I reply. "No it isnt'..yada, yada, yada.."..well, I advise I will put this on "Yelp" tonite to see if Sonic will get these poor employees some help,,like some "OUT OF ORDER" signs perhaps?? November 3, 2010 1800 hrs Wednesday 3 of 5 stars I am Jersey born and Jersey bred, but joined the Service and had been living in Oklahoma City for 20 years, the HQ of Sonic. I have enjoyed many Sonic meals, and had been bragging about the Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster sandwich to my sister, so I was excited to take her and my fiance' to the relatively new Sonic here in Howell, NJ. We ordered our #5s, with cheesy tots and a cherry limeade. The carhop was prompt, friendly and courteous, rolling out on her skates. Just a couple of suggestions, though. The Bacon Cheeseburger toaster has a certain crunch to it. The toast should be nicely toasted, the bacon crispy, the onion ring crispy, the meat really nice and juicy, and just enough sauce that it is almost a little messy. This sandwich missed the mark on most of those things. It was close, but needed just a few touches to make it the way I think Sonic intended, at least compared to the ones I've had in the past. The bread was toasted only lightly on one side, completely white on the other, the bacon was not quite crispy enough, and they skimped on the Hickory BBQ sauce. So, after giving the sandwich a "B" rating, I decided to look up the number to the store and call them directly. I spoke with the manager Jimmy, and said 'this is not a bad phone call, just a word of advice.' I told him what I ordered, and voiced my concerns. When I described the lack of toastiness and crunch, he said Oh, they're not running the bread thru twice. I will prompt them. He apologized and was very courteous about the call. I will have to try some of their other menu items as well to see if they measure up. For a fast food place, Sonic has great variety and has always been a good place in my OKC experience. Sonic is pretty good. The popularity died down, and you have to know what to order to get a good value. Food: The double cheese burger (a super-sonic burger) is pretty tasty with the works. Get a large order of tots and a grape-limeaid slushie, and you can't go wrong. Stay away from the value menu though. Much like Arby's, their desire to have a dollar menu outweighed their ability to produce something whorty of ordering at that price. You only get SIX (6) tots for a dollar. You get about 20 for $2, so it's a total rip-off. The hot dogs are good, and the nuggets are bad. Service: Rollerskating food handlers give it charm, and keeps you in your car. They will bring your change and a mint for each order. The food is made well enough, but their idea of packaging usually just makes a mess. The burgers come in a foil pouch, and the top slides around a bit. Overall: Better than the usual places, but Checkers is better. Burgers , tots or a chili dog is their strong point. Fries are not very good. Chicken is not really that good either. It's a solid 3 stars. read more

My first visit to Sonic was pretty monumental in my mind, as Sonic has teased my friends and I over the years with commercials, but no location within a 1 hour driving distance. However, upon news of a Sonic in Howell, NJ spread, I began planning a trip. After a stop at Swingtime, my friend drove us to Sonic and we pulled up next to another friend of ours who didn't know of this Sonic until the day we all went. Sonic, you can thank me later. I ordered a Sonic Burger with no mayo and mustard with a limeade and onion rings. The burger was average, and I probably should have gotten a double, but I appreciated the bun's ability to hold everything together. The onion rings disappointed as they were a little sweet, and had too much breading. My friend's cheesy tots, lacked a notable amount of cheese, and was probably something that could have been replicated in a cafeteria. The drinks were a little up to par as my friend downed 3 different types of slushes and limeades. the regular limeade was ok and a chocolate shake I got to go was a tasty treat, but the consistency did not work with a straw. Overall, I was disappointed, but I think it was also due to years of anticipation. With a menu so large, I am definitely willing to go on more visits. read more

Hi , I came to Sonic tonight, I ordered all my food that I wanted, they came took the money and never came back with the change, 30 minutes later they decided come when the place was closing, saying that they never heard us say the food that was missing. food sucks. service sucks...................... and how about that VALUE MENU ???? OO cant find it ?................ its in the smallest font ive ever seen.. like wheres Waldo.... and if you order a " slush " better get the FAUX FRUIT one or they will charge you extra ( almost double what is advertised ) for REAL FRUIT............. burgers taste like crap. I have been to Sonic in Howell about a dozen. I love the Chicken Club sandwich and tater tot with chili and cheese. I'm not a burger person but my sons love their burgers and the M&M Blast. Everytime I was there it was very clean. read more
