I needed a car shipped from a used car dealership in Florida to my home in Indiana. If you don't know how vehicle shipping works, here's a primer: You don't normally deal with the shipping company/driver directly. You work with a broker who will give you the estimated cost of the job. When you accept their "offer", you pay a small down payment ($100?) and the broker posts your job for that price on a website (Central Dispatch) that all the shipping companies look at. Hopefully, a company accept the job at the price that your broker posted. If the price is too low, the shipping company will contact the broker and tell them "We will do this job for 'X' dollars instead". If you have a shady broker, they will accept the job at the new, higher price and wash their hands of the whole situation. That's where you hear the horror stories of drivers arriving at customers' homes and telling them they owe hundreds of dollars more than what the customer originally agreed to. If you have a good broker, they will first contact you to let you know that the price has changed and ask if you will accept the new price. That is exactly what happened to me with Sonic Auto. My job manager, Harper Jade, initially said that he could get my car to Indiana for $700. He said the deposit would be $250 and I gave him my credit card info. He posted my job on Central Dispatch and then I immediately started getting text messages from shipping companies that said "We saw that you need to have your car shipped from Florida to Indiana. No company will accept the job at the price posted. We can transport your car for $1600. Is that OK?" Of course that was not OK so I told them all to pound sand. I was going to hold out for a better price. A few hours later, Harper called me and said that a company accepted the job for $750. He was very apologetic about the price increase (from $700 to $750), but that was the best he could negotiate with the shipping company. I was grateful that he was able to get a price close to the original estimate. However, I reminded him that I had a $50 off coupon for messaging Sonic Auto on their Instagram page. Harper said because I had the coupon, the price was back down to the original $700. The driver picked up my vehicle the next afternoon and it arrived a few days later. The only breakdown in communication was that when the driver arrived with the vehicle, he asked for more than the $450 I thought I owed ($700 minus the $250 deposit). He said he needed $600. Confused, I contacted Harper via text and immediately got a response. It turned out that Sonic Auto only charged me a $100 deposit instead of $250 (without telling me about the reduced deposit). That's why the driver was owed $600. Fortunately, I had enough cash on hand to pay the difference. read more

I arranged this transport for an elderly friend of mine. This company quoted $575 on May 5, 2026. The agreement was signed and a card placed on file. On May 6, 2026, Sonic auto sent an email requesting the agreement be signed again. The second agreement had an updated price of $975. When he refused to sign the updated price, Sonic Auto stated he would be charged a $200.00 cancellation fee. When he disputed the cancellation fee, Sonic stated the new price of $975 would be charged if he declined to acknowledge cancellation and pay the $200.00. The email is from the "cancellation department" which is the same person that sent the original quote and the second updated price. This company is attempting to defraud an elderly person. read more

WARNING!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS Be very careful and read everything closely before booking. I initially signed a contract with Sonic Auto Transportation for $2,000 to ship my vehicle from Hawaii to Virginia (full delivery to my final destination). After signing, I was contacted and told that the price could not be honored and that the only option was a new agreement for $3,450. Upon reviewing the new agreement, I noticed it only covered ocean transport to Oakland, not the full delivery to Virginia. After asking multiple times, they eventually admitted that the second leg of the transport would be charged separately (additionally) later once they found a driver. This was not clearly disclosed upfront. Because of the lack of transparency and the significant change in pricing and scope, I declined to proceed and did not sign the new agreement. They are now attempting to charge a $200 cancellation fee, even though the original contract terms could not be fulfilled as agreed, and are threatening me with a lawyer. Overall, this felt misleading and not transparent. I would strongly recommend getting full, written clarification of total pricing and delivery details before signing anything - their quote was almost half of what others quoted, I should've known it's a scam. read more

She went above and beyond to secure me great deal to tow my 5th wheel camper 550 miles on Dec 29th. I was wondering it sounded too good to be true at $845 with the cost of diesel in california. The first driver cancelled the morning of 29th, so he found another driver on the day of transport, this time at $1,500. He told me he would send me the driver's phone so I can have contact with him, and that the driver could be there in 2-3 hours at 11AM. 4 hours later I have heard nothing yet, sitting there packed and ready to go, so I called another driver and got my RV towed. by 7pm that night the Sonic driver texted me he is having truck trouble after i called and spoke to Michelle, his "assistant" and she contacted the driver. I emailed and called this Christian Woods to cancel the contract, never heard back despite asking him for confirmation of the cancellation, which he never did. I have been on the road busy with this transport situation for 5 days now with little sleep, and today was the first time I had a moment to log into my credit card. Guess what, they charged me that $550 on the 30th December like Kings of Deception and Fraud. I emailed to have it reversed and have not heard back. Off to better business bureau and law enforcement I go. EDIT 5 Jan 2026: The "owner" Alex is under the impression that the driver's information was sent to me, it never was. I kept texting and emailing and later called, but there was no driver. Late in the day somebody texted they were having truck trouble. the deposit is supposed to be charged AT PICK_UP when the driver hooks up your vehicle, not the next day after ZERO service was performed. Don't use this company. This is a broker who will bait and switch you. I didn't look at their yelp reviews, and I wish I did because everything that these customers are saying are true. They gave me a price to ship a car come the day of shipping. They told me they locked in a driver only to tell me that my price quote from $225 was going to be $700-$800 but they could do it for me for $475 and that he's giving me a discount and giving up his commission. They make it sound like they are working for you and getting you the best deal. They put it on the transportation company saying that they are requesting 700 $800 and when I talked to the driver when he arrived, he told me that they are only offering him $250 to transport my car. Which means sonic took $225 from the transaction. And when I asked to cancel they sent me a text to cancel but read it carefully because they charge you $200 if you cancel before 5 days. Now the not-so-good: Unfortunately, although they had all the information about the types of cars being shipped, no one put a second of thought into whether they would fit on the trailer. My 1978 Spitfire is so narrow that it literally had half of each tire on the steel and we had to manually lift the back of the car to transition it from the ramp to the truck bed. Additionally, as noted by others, dispatch communication was non-existant after they got the deposit. The driver was late and no one would answer the phone. I have received more communication asking me to write a review than I was able to get as the scheduled pickup time came and went. The price was competitive. There was no phone call or text the day prior advising us a pick up time as we have been promised several times. After I texted Chester about six times asking what time the car would be picked up on May 5- yesterday - I received a lackluster apology stating that he had been with his family the day before and did not see my text messages. Whatever. Anyway, we did eventually get a message from the driver giving us a pick up time and also telling us we would be responsible for an additional $.90 per mile in fees for transporting the car, in addition to the flat rate we had agreed upon back in March.. Since this would more than double the original cost that we were quoted, I was flabbergasted. Since he knew he was about to lose a customer, Chester then backpedaled and reduced the hourly mileage charge by $.20. And then he tried to send me a new contract to sign. Again, far too shady as the price was just a little less than double of the original cost.
