We shipped a car from FL to CA end of April and it was by far the most stressful experience trying to coordinate a pickup date & time. We moved up our pickup date to be more flexible but I had to call multiple times to make sure they met our deadline. All the brokers that you request quotes from all tell you how simple and sure they can do it for X price. I got multiple quotes and Ship a Car Direct came back with the lowest one. We were quoted $1300 for an open carrier. The final cost ended up being $1700 which was fine but it just seemed like they low balled to get your business but then the reality is they have to up the price or they can't find someone to accept the car and actually pick it up. So a booked to have my Jaguar shipped from Chicago to Napa California. I flew back to specifically to be there during the 5 day pickup window. Nothing, they were not able to fill the slot. No calls from them just constant emails and texts telling me don't worry this is normal we are working hard to fill the order. They gave me a runaround for weeks and still no pick up. I've wasted $600 in rental car fees waiting on a timeline that seems to be frozen. I've asked for a week to speak to a supervisor and no one will call me back. Scott, Matt and the main dispatch pass the buck and never put a supervisor on the line. They violate their own policies and have charged my card a deposit even though they didn't have a carrier assigned. Save yourself the headache and go to another company. I was explicitly assured by Scott that my car would definitely be picked up on time. However, on the scheduled pickup day, my appointment was abruptly canceled just two hours before it was supposed to happen, with the excuse that the driver's car "broke down." Strangely enough, I had just been texting with the driver, who casually informed me that he was going to pick up someone else instead. I was then rescheduled for a new pickup date outside of my original timeframe -- which was unacceptable, since I had a flight booked the next day. That day came, and I waited anxiously for any update -- but after calling Scott more than ten times with no response, I finally gave up. Not sure what happened but I requested my car well in advanced to be picked up from Nevada to go across country. I account for 4 days after the due date for a realistic scenario. 3 days closer to pick up date and I had not heard from any carrier and called Scott. He assured me this is the window people will be looking. So I left Nevada on a plane and waited until one week post pick up date with no response. I had to cancel the request. But here's the interesting part: I booked with a different broker and within 1 day they had a carrier and the car was picked up and delivered in a week with perfect communication. It was really more like a 3.5 star experience but all these car shipping companies have such low ratings so I figured I'd round up to get some attention. Let me start by saying if you're reading this you're probably trying to ship your car somewhere, it was HELL for me to find a place, everyone has horrible reviews and horror stories. I wanted my car to be safe but also didn't want to pay an insane price for an enclosed trailer. Ship a car direct had the best balance between price and ratings so I went with them. Overall the experience was a positive one. I was quoted $700 and ended up having to pay $725, not the end of the world but it would have been nice to save those $25. Another thing is that ship a car and the driver are not always on the same page, for example I was told pick up would be between 6-7, the car wasn't picked up till after 7,I was told the car would be dropped of Monday but just on a hunch I called on Sunday (the day before) and they told me that sure enough the car was coming one day early. I asked them what time they told me 4-5 so I made sure to be home, 4:30 comes around and no news still so I call ship a car and they told me that the driver is still on track to be there at 4-5 which I find surprising considering it was 4:30 and I heard nothing from the driver so I ask for the driver's number and give him a call, he tells me he never said 4-5 and he's still actually on his way to deliver another car an hour away from me, he told me it would be closer to 7. So my advice for you is to get the contact info of the driver and communicate with him instead of ship a car. With that out of the way the car did arrive undamaged and clean (aside from the dust from traveling across a few states which is understandable). My main concern is that my car arrived undamaged and I would not be charged extra money on top of what I was quoted and both were achieved (well $25 difference but close enough). When I needed my car shipped back to California in 2024 I decided to give them another try because they had so many good ratings. Still seems like a shady industry where you have to pay cash to the truck driver when the car arrives. It all depends on the trucking company that picks up and delivers the car. Ours was Shipping Experts Inc. and they did a good job. Even though they arrived in California before we did they made it easy for our friends to pick up the car. They delivered it to the nearest cross street. If Ship a Car Direct had told me that they selected this transport company because they are really good on trying to deliver the car to your address or as close as they can, that may have moved Ship a Car's rating to a true 4 star rating instead of 3.5 stars. But I don't give out 5 star ratings unless a business is what I would consider one of the top in the industry. Would I use them again? Probably, or I'd just drive my car one way and fly back.
