We chose Auto Zipper after extensive research that left two companies neck and neck based on price, reviews, and reputation. The deciding factor was that the owner had a trusted driver available for our timeframe. We were shipping three cars from California to Florida. Everything went smoothly until delivery. The trip took a week instead of the estimated four days. Using our cars' GPS, we saw the driver spend days in Arizona and Texas with no explanation. While no timeline was guaranteed, we had relied on the estimate and incurred extra rental car costs as a result. When the driver finally arrived, he wanted to deliver at 8 p.m.--too dark for inspection--so we arranged for 1 p.m. the next day. He then changed it to 6 p.m. Again, we accepted to avoid another rental day. When he called to say he'd arrived, he was nowhere near our home. He'd gone to a nearly identical address ending in "Terrace" instead of "Road," over 20 minutes away. We told him the correct address, but he refused to move the cars, insisting he could only deliver to the address on the bill of lading--even though he'd met us, had our phone number, and knew it was the company's mistake. He told us to call his dispatcher (after hours) rather than contacting them himself. To avoid more hassle, I drove to his stated location--only to find he had left for our actual address after all. By then, we'd reached the owner, who authorized delivery to the correct address. No one--driver, dispatcher, or owner--ever took responsibility for the mix-up, despite our contract showing the right address. Soon after, the driver called again--stuck at a locked gate. I had already warned him about the proper entrance for large trucks, but he ignored it. He then suggested delivering our cars on the side of a public road. When I asked why he could suddenly do that, but not deliver to our correct address before, he had no answer. Fed up, I agreed to take the cars on the roadside. The spot was 20 minutes from our home, forcing me to shuttle each car one by one in the growing dark. The process took over an hour. Afterward, I spoke multiple times with the owner and his assistant, who promised to "get to the bottom" of what went wrong. To this day, no one has explained how our delivery address was changed or why the driver acted as he did. All I received were apologies and an unfulfilled promise of a $50 gift certificate. To say I would not recommend Auto Zipper is an understatement. Their communication was poor, the driver was unprofessional, and the handling of our delivery was chaotic from start to finish. My advice: use literally any other company if you value your time, your vehicles, and your sanity. I will continue sharing this story to warn others away from the nightmare we experienced. read more

They take your order, then match you with a transporter. However, AutoZipper isn't a giant company, and their staff aren't hardcore sales people. Michelle was my contact at AutoZipper. She shared useful information about the process, and provided a timeline for each step of the process. She was constantly in touch to ensure that the transporter was meeting his obligations. The transporter they assigned to me was a small business owner. He was professional, polite, on time, and was terrific about calling/texting to advise me of his anticipated pick up and delivery times. He also spent at least 1/2 an hour carefully anchoring my car to the truck - in the pouring rain. My car arrived on time and in perfect condition. This was an easy, seamless experience. I transported my SUV from Houston, TX to Los Angeles using Auto Zipper. Upon research, and making a few calls to different companies, it became evident to me that this company is the way to go. As explained in other reviews, the process from start to end was smooth thanks to Brian's excellent communication. Getting a quote: I called Auto Zipper and spoke with Brian, who was my contact point throughout the process. He was very transparent about pricing and even adjusted down the price before I asked. His quote was lower than other companies (Montway, etc) by $40. He gave me an ETA for the pick up and I paid a downpayment of about 25-30% of the total amount. He then sent me a contract document via email laying out the bill and what to expect. After I had the contract down, I was always able to ask Brian for updates via text, and he answered my text very quickly. My car was picked up in Texas on Sunday, a week after my call, and it was dropped off in California on Friday, after five days in transit. (I learned that the car was first dropped off in Pomona, CA, and loaded into a smaller truck for delivery in my LA suburb the following day.) My car came in original condition. The person who came to drop off my car was also very nice. Note that, like any other interstate car shipping services, the trailer is likely to make several stops before picking up your car. This means that you should plan for delays. For example, pick up of your car may be delayed by a day or two, which was the case for me. This delay was fine because I expected it and had arranged with my friend to hand over the car after I left Texas. I also read some other reviews that said it took them only 2-3 days for their car to arrive to CA from Texas but in my case it took 5 days. Again, this was no problem for me but you should consider baking in a week's timeframe if you are planning a similar move. I was nervous about using car shipping companies because of so many horror stories but this move went so smoothly thanks to Brian and his team at Auto Zipper. But I went with a broker because: - I needed to ship quickly (same weekend) so I needed a large fleet to choose from - I wanted a base level of service and insurance and felt like a broker would have that - the market is fragmented, and I think large brokers do better job of managing than individuals or small shops in fragmented markets - I wanted to feel like I could talk to someone at any point Brian was my rep. He was solid and established the base level of service I should get and let me know if I wasn't getting it to check in and he'd take care of it. That's what I'm talking about! I didn't plan my vehicle shipment very well. I basically called around 5 days before I needed the car shipped from Atlanta to LA to get quotes. I saw the 5 stars for Brian at Autozippers and the glowing reviews and knew I would be in good hands. When I called him, he knew exactly which truck my car could go on. He put me on hold for less than 30 seconds and then confirmed that he had space on a truck matching my exact time frame for pick up and drop off. In the fragmented marketplace for vehicle shipping, this is extremely rare. I got a quote for $150 less from another reputable company but the dispatcher wouldn't even put me on their board until I paid the brokerage fee (it seems the average is ~$250 for a cross country move). Once you are on the board, they shop it out to the actual trucking companies. The other company couldn't even tell me when I could get picked up, but said my odds of a pick up before Memorial day was slim because it is busy season. But with Brian, I knew exactly when my car would get picked up and delivered and I was happy to pay the difference for the peace of mind, and I'm so glad I did. Vivien was the dispatcher out of California, and she was very polite, prompt and on top of it, alerting me exactly when and where David (the semi driver) would meet me, and about the traffic delay on the pickup day. David was also very professional and surveyed my car carefully to note all paint chips and scratches at pick up. Delivery was on the exact day that I expected and prompt and professional. I was not rushed when inspecting my car. It arrived dirty from dust and rain, and needed a car wash but that was to be expected from an open trailer move across the USA. I paid $1k in cash on delivery because I didn't want to pay the extra $8 for a cashier's check or the money order fee. They don't take personal checks on delivery, which is understandable. Brian called a couple days after delivery to ensure that the whole move went smoothly and that there were no issues. Overall I had a fantastic experience.
