How my cuticles looked when I got home an hour later.
Denise L.

Go anywhere else but here. I came in on a Saturday afternoon. The place wasn't busy at all, there was one person getting a pedicure and another person getting a manicure. I explained I wanted a eyebrow and lip wax and a manicure. They did the manicure first. The so called spa manicure was a joke. She didn't ask what shape I wanted, didn't clean under my nails, no sink to wash your hands, and made my cuticles bleed. She was extremely rough. I wanted my cuticles cut, not my whole finger taken off too. The green stuff she put on them did nothing to stop the burning. She sprayed rubbing alcohol on my nails twice which also made the pain worse. My cuticles felt like they were on fire! Polish application was sloppy and the rubbing alcohol dried out my skin and made it look ashy. A different person did my eyebrow and lip wax. Eyebrows didn't look shaped at all and I could still see and feel hairs above my lip when I got home. 3 days later, my cuticles are still sore and have scabbed over from the bleeding. Go elsewhere.

My perfect no chip!

Radha is my new go-to nail tech at Sonia! She is SO meticulous which is great because I am OCD about my nails. I really enjoy talking to her and she just does such a great job, I'm hooked. My nails seriously always look so darn good and I feel like I never take photos to add to yelp, but this was worthy so I'm including one! This place is a great secret in Bucktown, I live 2 blocks away and for some reason never knew it was here until I saw it on Groupon, and now I go every 2-3 weeks for a no-chip. They have great colors for manicures, pedicures, and no chips and there is no loud music or TVs blaring while you're in there - very peaceful. I suggest you check it out!

Beautiful yellow ombré, gross.
Ashley F.

I hate to write such a bad review when my nail tech worked hard and had the right intentions but the atmosphere, front desk staff, and products are all sub par here. I did use a Groupon, which might just warrant bad service these days. The front desk lady put the movie "Damages" on the tv, if you're not familiar it's a movie where a daughter in law sleeps with her father in law and is basically porn. Despite everyone's uncomfortable comments the front desk seemed unphased. I finally asked her to change it after the 3rd sex scene. The staff treated a few other walk ins rudely and made me feel uncomfortable. And two days into the manicure my pink color had turned fully yellow. So manicure, removed. I wouldn't even go back to get it fixed it was such an awkward experience. Go a few doors down to Fuchsia Nails they are much better.

The massage itself was great. She states face up and massaged my face, neck and scalp - boy did it feel good! After working out my arms and legs, she then went to my back. We definitely plan to get lost here for the day and do a little staycation, but not with the accommodations. Enjoying the spa amenities for the day. Now to what I did not enjoy, I did not enjoy the spa having to share, it's pool with the hotel. This is a high price point hotel/ spa experience. I did not appreciate the numerous amount of families that included small children were. The parents absolutely did not discipline, nor attend to their children and their entitled behavior of taking over the entire pool area and even the jacuzzi. I did talk to management whom apologized . But it was very disheartening! This place is too expensive to not have quiet and enjoyable experience from start to finish. I received 20 percent off for my trouble. Also the gratuity is added which is more than 20 percent. But you can ask to customize your own amount. Suggest going during the week for a quite experience!

You are greeted with a warm smile as they check you in and given gentle directions where you can change in their large facility into your robe and slippers. Then they guide you to where you can go to wait to meet your masseuse. It was a last minute booking and the last slot for an evening massage. It wasn't long at all before my smiling masseuse came to come and get me. Before I knew it I was laying face down getting the most relaxing massage I've had in a long time. This place serves at a high end level of excellence. My masseuse was very professional and just knew the perfect level of pressures to get all the knots, kinks, and stress print up on my back. This place lifts and floats you away from the business of the outside world and the whirls that swirl around inside your head. They know how to relax you to the max and send you off relaxed and recharged for the world. I hope to go back there sooner than later.

After securely storing our belongings in lockers, we were guided to the serene lounge area to relax before our services. My partner and I booked the Couples Journey, which was the perfect indulgence. It began with a full-body scrub, followed by 25 minutes soaking in a luxurious infinity tub with lavender Epsom salts, and finished with a heavenly 60-minute massage. I had Javier as my therapist, and he was absolutely phenomenal, one of the best massages I've ever had. His technique and pressure were spot on. My partner had Elizabeth, who was also excellent and very sweet she made us feel so comfortable and thoroughly explained everything. After our treatment, we returned to the lounge where we were offered light snacks, tea, and water. Once refreshed, we each headed to the wet lounge, which features a sauna, steam rooms, and showers. I personally loved the steam room and spent most of my time there, although I did notice the sauna wasn't heating properly during our visit. The spa was overall very clean and well-maintained. However, I echo a few other reviewers in saying the bathroom could use a bit more attention. That said, it wouldn't deter me from returning we had a wonderful, relaxing day and will absolutely be back.

There are a variety of services to choose from, but the various baths of different temperatures and salt engage the senses like no other. It's co-ed, and you can move between baths at your leisure. There's even a semi-outdoor waterfall bath. The variety is wonderful. There's a salt shower area that you could rub salt on yourself which feels wonderful. I really enjoyed the sauna which had an aromatherapy component to it and a cold plunge inside. I didn't think I could do it, but the hot temps made it easier to get into the cold water. Service here is splendid, and reservations need to be made so that over-crowding doesn't happen. This makes the experience of coming here much more enjoyable. You can really unwind, relax, and come out of this feeling refreshed.

There is staff around so if you have any questions, that can be answered. The locker rooms are clean. There are a couple private changing rooms and, of course, cuz it is separate from the men, you can choose to change in the open. You change into your bathing suit and they provide a robe. Within this locker room, there are showers available and there is also an area provided to get ready AFTER the services are complete. It has hair dryers and spray deodorant and I think lotions. They do provide "wet slippers". They fit like no show socks so there's no need for any kind of flip flop type shoe to protect your feet. I have no review for the men's locker room cuz... Well. I'm not a man. BUT my husband had no complaints. When ready, you meet your partner and go to the "bath" area. They have all kinds of hot tubs and steams rooms and cold plunges and just yeah. It's pretty cool. You hang your robe and in you go. There is also a juice bar and the juices are delicious. Again, there is plenty of staff to assist with any questions you may have. If you booked a massage, and, of course, why not? They will let you know when it's time. You go upstairs and get the best massage of your life. I had a female masseuse and my husband had a male one. Once done, back into the locker room to get ready for the rest of your day/evening. It was a pleasant experience. It was also quite pricey. This was gifted to me and my man. Not sure if we would have extra funds to splurge within our own budget. This is downtown Chicago. Parking is NOT provided. Although they do offer valet.

We received an email before our visit asking if we would be able to switch our 10:30 appointments to 8:00 am or 11:45 am to accommodate another guest interested in services. Since we were visiting from out of town and had other plans, we were not able to switch to these times but eventually agreed to move to 9:15 even though it was not our preferred time. The attendants upon arrival were very friendly and welcoming. The eucalyptus steam sauna was closed for repair, which was not indicated when we booked. The dry sauna and hot tub were very small. As the morning went on it got incredibly busy. There were so many people waiting for appointments that there weren't enough chairs in the relaxation room, and it was very crowded by the vanity/mirrors and showers. Our treatments we good, not spectacular for the cost, but we expected expensive treatments on a busy weekend in Chicago. We were offered complimentary enhancements for switching appointment times-a face mask or eye mask. A nice touch but not nearly worth switching our plans around for. We had separate reservations to begin with but somehow when we were asked to move our reservation times, we were put on the same reservation. As a result, I was charged for my friend's service. We each made multiple calls to the spa to try to get it corrected. After at least four attempts to get it corrected over the phone, I emailed the spa. It took 8 days from when we were at the spa for them to begin processing a refund to my card. We were very surprised by all of this, especially at such a luxury spa.
