Then when she was working on the cuticles she jabbed aggressively and when I told her to be more gentle, that she was hurting me, she was dismissive. She is in the wrong line of work. Well I just sat down less than 25 minutes ago and I'm already done with my pedicure. I hate when I come to treat myself to something nice, and you don't get what you paid for. Literally fastest pedicure ever and I've had one hell of a week. I expected a lot more. I don't think it's fair to pay $40+ for a twenty minute service. I'm new the the neighborhood and looking for a new nail salon. Saw this place had great reviews so stopped in today for the works: pedi, no-chip mani and eyebrow and lip waxing. I'm headed out on vacation and wanted to look great. Granted, I don't have a repeat experience to share - hoping this is isolated. But I definitely won't be back. My eyebrows and lip looked amazing. No complaints there but my mani / pedi experience was a totally different story. I must have caught my nail technician on a bad day, at least that's what I hope. I have multiple bleeding fingers and toes after I repeatedly asked him to take it easy on my cuticles as they are tender. He was far to rough on my hands and feet. I had to ask him to disinfect the cuts, he wanted to pretend like it didn't happen. While buffing my nails he ran a brand new file over my skin and pushed so hard it ripped a gash in my nail bed. Now my mani has a big scar right next to it. I didn't realize till I got home that he didn't soak my hands to soften my cuticles. I'll stick with the waxing and move on to another place for nails. I paid more here for inferior service than my regular place across the street. They rushed me to pic a color and couldn't match the no chip color with regular for my feet. Pedicure was really quick and they didn't scrub the bottom of my feet/toes. The pedicure station was super uncomfortable as it was just a bench and not a pedicure chair. I'm shorter and my feet didn't really reach. The manicure didn't last even close to 2 weeks. There's no reason to come here when Salon Chic is down the street. read more

During your manicure, you get a nice warm neck pillow that adds to the relaxation factor and nice warm hand warmers. LOVE when my manicure lasts more than a week. I always hesitate trying places new to me because I'm scared of wasting money. I did my Yelp research and found that previous Yelpers were right: manicures from Spa O DO last a long time. My manicure really held up to some serious testing. It withstood an intense home improvement bathroom project involving lots of water, tile, and grout. It also withstood the normal daily tasks like dishwashing (without gloves) and dog-walking. I also teach many sweaty yoga classes that usually do a number on any manicures I get. My Spa O manicure really held up to all of these tests. Had I lived a "normal" week, my manicure probably would have lasted longer!!! I'm ecstatic at the quality of work I have received. The owner is very amiable and approachable. In speaking with him, he mentioned that Spa O just opened earlier this year (2011). In the time that they have been opened it seems that they have worked out the kinks as the place looks great! In my first visit to Spa O, I had a manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow waxing. The space is very beautiful and modern. The movie "Little Fockers" was playing in the background as I was getting my nails done. The waxing area is behind a luxurious curtain in a nicely decorated little nook of the space. I really didn't mind this as I was only getting my eyebrows done. The whole spa space creates a feeling of relaxation even in the neighborhood atmosphere. Kudos to the interior decorator. My only complaint is that services take a long time. I was a walk-in appointment just before noon on a weekday. I realize many places cope with rush hour differently, but I wasn't expecting to be there more than an hour. My total time there was an hour and half, which isn't too bad, but nice to know if you were planning on visiting. Next time I do go to Spa O, I will have a more flexible schedule or clear out the rest of my day. I do enjoy the quality they put into their work so I wouldn't want them to sacrifice quality for speed of service if it came down to it. They DO take appointments as well, so I might take that route too to minimize my wait time, just in case. As other Yelpers have mentioned, they have a loyalty rewards program. They keep track of how often you visit in their system. No need to worry about punchcards or scantags. After a certain number of visits, you can accumulate points/$ to apply to future services. Pretty clean, no wait with appointment, and I was able to book a last-minute appointment. I was in the neighborhood and decided to get a no-chip manicure before New Year's Eve. I'd never gone to a nail salon in the area, so I chose this one based on previous Yelp reviews. Unlike other reviewers, I found the color selection to be adequate. They also use a polish shaker machine for every customer to make sure the polish is well-blended. My nail tech wasn't overly zealous when removing my previous no-chip or cleaning up my cuticles. Unfortunately, it's a 3 star experience for the price and the amount of time it took. The nail tech was very attentive and thorough, but even with two no-chip lights (one per hand), the appointment took over an hour. At my normal spot, I get the same attention to detail in 45 min. Also, the no-chip was $40, which is overpriced. Considering I wasn't blown away by the facility and there weren't really any extras, it's not worth it. Every other place I've gone to in Chicago does no-chip for $35. They also cut and filed my nails noticeably shorter on my right hand and my ring finger on my left hand. It's probably only noticeable to me, but it's still annoying since she already had cut them too short to begin with. Can't fault her for that since I didn't notice until it was too late. If I'm in the area again, I might try another spot or just wait until I'm closer to home and go to my normal place. read more

Overpriced for the quality of the services. The woman filing down my no chip for removal was so rough she cut into my skin on two fingers. Very small, but enough to burn and hurt throughout the rest of the manicure. The bottom of my feet look like they didn't even exfoliate. I paid $70 and didn't get the dead skin and blister remnants off. I'm so embarrassed my feet still look like this. The place looks cute, but no massage chairs. Decent color selection. Came here the other day with a friend. She had an appointment, but they moved things around for me to tag along! Thanks guys my toes realllly needed it! We both got a pedicure. I will start with the service. Very thorough and friendly service. They did not rush through the service and they were not overly rough when doing it. I have very sensitive toe nails and it was relieving to be able to sit back and enjoy the pedicure, rather be on edge because they were being too rough with my toes. Clean, relaxing and a very enjoyable experience. I came here for the first time to get a no-chip manicure and I've been back three times since. I'm one happy camper! Spa O is cozy, warm and inviting. Service is friendly and appointments are easy to come by, so there's very little waiting. I love the pedicure area, by the way. The chairs are cozy and I love the color scheme. The pedicure was done really well and I got to take home the pumice stone after the pedi since they open all of them for each pedicure when you get it. Awesome! Definitely one of the worse no chip experiences I've ever had in the past three years of getting this type of service. I was a first time visitor and didn't necessarily get a warm welcome. They don't have the nail colors available in swatches like every other salon in the city so you have to play the guessing game or test it on your actual nail. The tech didn't soak my nails and attempted to cut my cuticles dry...completely insane. It was at least an hour or more before closing but she was rushing and wasn't allowing the full time for the UV light. Fantastic! Logan Square is a nail salon wasteland no more!! The older nail salons in the Square (well the two that I've found) are essentially old, dingy, slightly dirty... essentially they exist because there's no competition in the area and if you were desperate for a manicure or eyebrow wax and didn't want to leave the neighborhood (because you hadn't waxed in a loooong time and have a unibrow), you had no other options. Spa O is the diametric opposite - the decor is trendy with bright/warm colors, comfy chairs and most importantly, it's really CLEAN! I had a fantastic and thorough mani/pedi for $32 (promotional opening deal), which included a calf massage and shoulder massage. Ah yeah! The service was awesome. The staff hung my coat and brought it to me as I left. They wrapped my feet with saran wrap so I could put my boots back on and brave the Chicago cold. They also offer other spa services... massages, waxing; and they are available for spa parties. I am soooo glad Spa O came to the neighborhood... I won't have to make trips to Wicker Park and Lincoln Park for a decent nail salon anymore! I've had my nails done here twice. I will discuss both occasions. 1. Mani/pedi for my wedding. Some might think me crazy for going to an untested (by me) salon for my wedding nailz, and yet... My main criteria for my wedding nails is that I wanted Cajun Shrimp in a no-chip: they have that color here! Yay! So: the pedi was great, no complaints, pretty standard. This was my second no-chip mani of ever, so I only have one other data point of comparison, but DUDE it was awesome. I didn't come back to have it removed until after my honeymoon which was 2.5 weeks. Ipso facto, the manicure DID NOT CHIP for THREE WHOLE WEEKS. Of course I had crazy grown out red nails, but srsly I was impressed. Also, when they removed the polish, my nails were in fabulous shape underneath. The other no-chip I'd had destroyed my nails. This one did not. They know what they are doing here, in short. 2. Pedi while soaking off the aforementioned no-chip mani. Fine, standard. One thing that I noticed is that (most likely due to the location) you pretty much have to have an appointment to come here. I had an appointment for both times. I witnessed a bunch of ladies walking in asking if there was availability, and they don't seem to take walk-ins. Makes sense, there probably is little foot-traffic when not a weekend, so they just don't schedule manicurists for a ton of shifts during the week. After spending 20 amazing days in the warmth of the Buenos Aires sun I wasn't too excited to return to freeze town Chicago. What made me ease back into it, was getting a mani/pedi at the new nail spa in Logan Square, Spa O. Perfect location, right next to one of my fav coffee jaunts, New Wave. Spa O is running a 20% off deal for their grand opening, so of course I couldn't pass it up and invited a friend to join!! The space is clean, comfortable and pleasing to the eye with hues of purple and turquoise. Instead of the typical massage chairs, they have big, plush seats where you sit to get a pedicure. The staff is friendly and great at what they do, from shaping the nail, cuticle trimming, scrubbing, massaging, and meticulous when applying the polish. They have a good selection of OPI polish and ESSE's latest colors. I chose a cool, spring green color, "Don't Mess with OPI" from their new Texas collection. Love it! I walked out feeling a bit better about winter. So glad Spa O is in my neck of the woods! read more

I had one appointment that was solid and the reason why I went back, and the reason it gets 2 stars and not 1. For my 2nd visit I went in for a walk-in appointment and HAD THE JOY OF BEING CUT NOT ONCE, NOT TWICE BUT THREE TIMES during my mani-pedi. The technician LEFT POLISH ON MY TOES AND FINGERS. WEIRDER - She didn't clean underneath my fingernails and after all the butchery still left my cuticles looking unkempt. Just got the worst pedicure of my life. My feet were in bad shape, nails were overgrown.. You'd think that'd give her a lot to work with. She cut my nails WAY too short.. So now I have man looking feet, great. On top if that she filed every single nail SO crooked, applied polish way too thick and too close to my cuticles. How do you suck at every single step? Also I felt like she was scraping at my cuticles instead if nipping them cleanly... Which means ill have dry ashy looking cuticles as soon as the cuticle oil wears off. Going on vacation tonight for 3 weeks and my toenails grow slow.. Thanks for guaranteeing I have hideous feet the first chance I got this horrible winter to finally wear sandals and flip flops. Ugh. By far one of the best pedi's ever!! First great thing was my girl helped me pick out a color and that is something that hasn't ever happened to me. I must had was a nice change. I was able to pick green tea or baking soda too add to the pedi, witch is something that I never had before plus there are 3 different foot scrubs that you are also able to add on. Quick and friendly service, the spa part of the experience Whether pedicure or manicure is always great and I continue to go back. I will say the reason for the 3 Stars is that the professionals I have seen (the last two or three) did a only so so paint job (regular polish not no chip). I couldn't tell if it was unsteady hands or polish that was only, but I didn't notice it the last few times my paint was clumpy... I've been here several times for pedicures and no-chip manis. I've had mixed experiences everytime I go. There are some technicians there that are REALLY good and some there are so-so. Some rush to get the job done and move on to the next customer while others take their time, pay attention to detail and really make sure you are happy with the result. They provide a 2-week guarentee for their no-chip. I must say that 8 out of 10 times my no-chip mani will chip on at least 2 or 3 nails before the 2 weeks it is up. I just dont have time to go back and have them fix it before my next appointment anyway. Another nice value-add is the technicians usually give you a back rub while your nails are drying which is always nice. I really like this place and continue to go back; however, I may start requesting specific nail technicians over other ones. read more

I made my second visit today to get a manicure, was going to just do a basic but decided to do their Spa O Manicure for $25, they are running a special where if you purchase any "Spa O package", you get a free paraffin wax treatment. Definitely won me on that! Tony was my manicurist and he was excellent. He really made me feel comfortable and relaxed. (exactly what I needed with this crappy weather lately) Got a great arm/hand massage, nice wax treatment and while I was waiting a nice and much needed shoulder massage.
