I am a "faveat" of this place...that is a fan with some caveats...Let me explain:
Earlier this month, I was faced with a "situation" 24 hours before I was scheduled to leave on a 3 week trip to Southeast Asia. I had planned my way down to the most minute detail, with the exception of a forgotten pedi/waxing appt. Without going into too much detail, I was not prepared to spend the next 3 weeks on the islands of Thailand spending half my morning with the Gillette before getting my swim on...
I am not someone who typically "waxes" as I have found alternate home methods that suit me just fine, without the mortification that I could only assume comes from a salon waxing. For this trip, however, I really decided to bit the bullet and book a waxing appt, including a full leg wax.
Couple notes in general:
1. The salon is a tiny bit hidden away just across from the Square, but had a parking spot right out front and a coffee shop next door. I enjoy both these things.
2. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the salon itself falls somewhere between a mani/pedi "joint" attached to a gas station (ahem, Jimmy Nails, ahem) and a full-on spa.
3. The receptionist was a little preoccupied when I was there and seemed more intent on her phone conversation than on talking to me or helping me out...there was definitely no offers of a glass of water or an offer to take my coat/purse. I think she may have been having a bad day, but either way...these little things go a long way.
As for the services:
The "waxing room" is one of the things that make me a "faveat". It is essentially a tiny tented off space approx 6 inches from the reception desk, and 3 feet from the front door. The waxing table takes up, kid you not, 90% of the room in the tent so when you walk in with your waxer its a tiny bit awkward. It felt like getting undressed in a very cramped closet, amplified by a complete stranger standing 6 inches away. Awesome.
This is one of those things that, had I read Yelp and known what I was in for ahead of time, I probably would never have sucked it up and gone. BUT, I will say, after the initial shock of the awkward draped closet situation I did find that the small space made me feel less exposed somehow. It wasn't some giant clinical feeling room and so I was able to kinda drift off and forget exactly what the lady was doing down south. It almost made it feel COZY.
The pedicure was meh, but I do admit to being a girl who is VERY impatient and not a huge fan of sitting still that long. The placement of the foot bath thingie felt a little awkward like I was always two seconds away from slipping and kicking her in the face.
All in all, for a girl that detests most of what those 2 hours entailed, it was a much less painful experience than I expected (pun intended). My waxer was sweet and thorough and for 100.00 I felt I got what I expected. read more
