Absolutely horrible experience. I came in asking for palm tree nail art and instead of even attempting it properly, they slapped a sticker on my nails like I was a kindergarten craft project. My nails look thick, fake, uneven, and honestly embarrassing. The quality was terrible and the attention to detail was nonexistent. I will give credit to the woman who at least tried to do the palm tree design and then helped look for a sticker afterward, but if a salon can't do a design, they should simply say so instead of charging people for something that looks rushed and cheap. I usually do my nails at home or go to an excellent Japanese nail artist in the neighborhood for special occasions, but after learning the perils of trying to remove gel color at home I go to other salons to get gel removal and a manicure once in awhile. I usually decide I need to do it very last minute and this is where my visit to Sona Nails & Spa comes in. I was able to call on a summer Friday afternoon and get an appointment in the next couple of hours. They don't seem to be very strict with appointment times but most people had called ahead and no one had to wait more than a few minutes. The technicians were nice and did a great job with getting the gel off and giving me a fresh manicure. I was very happy with how it looked (and that they didn't over clip my cuticles) and the whole process took about an hour and a half, which was expected because the gel nail art I had on was pretty elaborate and needed time to soak. The setup is a typical NYC nail salon and they have COVID measures in place like plastic shields at the manicure stations, hand sanitizer where you pick your polish and disposable guards at the pedicure stations. There wasn't any strong chemical smell from acrylics, etc. which I appreciate. They have a solid selection of gel and regular polish from Essie, Morgan Taylor and a couple of other brands I didn't recognize. If you visit please keep in mind salons with manicures under $20 typically don't pay the nail techs much at all, so be as generous as you can with tipping and try to tip your manicurist directly. read more

This is what's left of my nails after getting SNS nails from this salon. I got these done April 2nd and the first day it chip was day 5. Naturally I was pissed because it's not supposed chip, crack or lift at all. I called on day 8 to see if they could fix them, but I was told they have a 2-3 day policy to do a touch up. I explained that this is not a regular manicure and this should not have happened in the first place. all I got was an "I'm sorry" and my $32 with a $10 tip down the drain! It's now day 14 and I've lost 3 nails and counting. I could only wait til it all falls off like some cheap acrylics and paint over it so I'm not reminded of what I wasted money on. I've been doing Japanese gel w/ nail art for the past year, but my go to is fully booked for two weeks straight and I desperately needed a gel mani + pedi before a flight out of NYC this Friday. Resorted to yelp and found Sona Nails and this place did not disappoint. I walked in with low expectations even with the 4 star rating simply bc majority of nail techs just can't do my nails the right way for some reason. It's either one can't file my nails to the pointed almond shape I like or one can't paint neatly around my cuticles. Lucia did my gel mani + reg pedi ($41 when done together) today and she did an amazing job. I pay way more than $41 at my normal place for just a gel mani so this was a bargain. She filed my nails just the way I like them and did an amazing paint job on my hands. My toes have a bit of polish on some skin, but nothing close to what I would call sloppy and hence the 4 stars instead of 5. The massages given are also very *generous*. She gave me a great massage with the scrub, and again with the lotion for my pedicure. Same applies for the gel mani - great shoulder massage followed by a hand + arm massage at the end. Overall, I loved Lucia's work and will be back for sure. I've also been thinking of weening off my jap art place Bc my gel hasn't been lasting well the last few months, so finding Sona makes me SO excited. Was going here for around 3 yrs because of the location and cleanliness. I'm done with this place after today. While getting my eyebrows waxed I felt the waxed breathing on me. I opened the eye that wasn't being waxed abs looked at her. She got the point and put her mask on. I got the paraffin treatment with my manicure. Rather than ladel wax over my hands (or put the wax in the smaller container) they had me put my hands in the main tub of wax... I wonder how many hands have been in there ! Disgusting. Next, the paraffin mitts looked around 20 yrs old and even on the warmest setting wasn't sufficient. So as I'm sitting with the not warm mitts the woman begins to massage my back. The usual 5 min massage you get while nails dry. Lastly, when I went to pay the price was higher than it should've been. When I asked why I was told for the ten min masssage. First of all , I never asked for a massage. Secondly , there was no ten min massage...3-5 min tops. Third , paid massages usually take place in the massage chair. Not a rolling chair with a rolling table in front of me where I have to use my body to steady itself. Even though this place is conveniently located I can't say it's Clean anymore after the paraffin disaster. And unfortunately it's like a third world country where you get hustled for things you never asked for or received. read more

Thsi is a local nail salon I've gone to 3 times with this being my last. I came because of Lana and the review regarding her work. No frills but gets the job done. Please keep in mind I've called only a day or so in advance to make a scheduled appt with her and ensuring she will actually be here when i arrive. Each time I've come in she's nowhere to be found and the rest of the staff look confused and anxious that she has a waiting client. Every single time (different days and at different appt times) without fail one of the girls tells me i will call her and i sit and wait until she comes strolling in at minimum 15 mins late for our appt. Today which would have been my 4th visit with her i purposely came 5 mins late for my 6pm appt thinking ok maybe this time she will be here. Nope!! Once again i was met with the same confused anxious looks and a staff member who is doing a pedicure saying i will call her. It's now 615 and the question still remains where in the world is Lana? I don't feel like playing a game of Clue on a Friday evening so i left. It's a real shame because i live within walking distance and was hoping to make this place my go to with Lana as my go to tech. It's unfortunate that there is no respect for a paying and tipping customers time. We all work and have things come up but it's the repeated consistent pattern of disregard for my time without even a courtesy call to advise she will be late or apology upon arrival that leads me back to looking for a new nail salon. read more

Been here twice and I already am in love. I been to my fair share of nail salons I always get a gel manicure and lately the places I've been trying the gel will only last a week tops. Gel is supposed to last atleast two to three weeks. I found this place because I work in the area and my gel was still in great condition by two weeks and about 4/5 days. This place is so clean and the employees are so sweet, especially Sheldon ! Shout out to you girl ! I suggest you schedule an appointment because its a small location and all their appointments are typically scheduled prior. This place was amazing! I haven't had a pedicure since I was a child so I do not remember at all how it works. The employees were really nice and let me know what I had to do. PROS: 1. If you want to have a conversation with the employees you can although you have to be a bit quiet because people come here to relax not to socialize. 2. The massage chairs that come free with the pedicures are great. I had a really bad knot on my back that needed popping and it loosened it right up. 3. The prices are justifiable. Might be a bit pricier than the ones along Queens Blvd; for example, Rogue Nails, but the price is worth it because they do a really good job. 4. They work hard at what they do. I got the callus treatment package along with a classic pedicure and I must say that my feet are silky smooth and my heels are soft! CONS: 1. The only thing is that I wish the workers would take their time instead of rushing. There weren't many people waiting after me. Just one person. Highly recommend this place. Wangmo was my nail technician. I'm skeptical with nail technicians because 99% of the time, they overcut my cuticles and they bleed. Wangmo was different. She was very careful with every step. She also double-checks everything before moving to the next procedure. She did not rush even if there was a walk-in customer who was asked for her specifically. Cleanliness and Hygene -Pedicure stations are lined which is the most hygienic choice. Sterilized tools and fresh towels are used. Each station is orderly with no clutter and clean looking products. Quality of Service -Service providers spend ample time in cleaning, filing and cuticle removal. Hand and foot massage is best I've found in Queens and upper Manhattan- not rushed and very thorough. Color selection is vast for gel and classic polish. I generally go for different shades of reds which they have good choices of. Polish application is good and doesn't chip easily. Pedicure slippers are the better quality foam, not the paper kind which is a big plus for me if you don't want to change into your shoes on your way out. A brief shoulder massage is given after your service, something that never happens in queens! Wait Time -I've made two appointments just 30 minutes ahead of time and was taken in less than five minutes. I came in without an appointment and was taken within ten on a Saturday afternoon which impressed me. Overall, I feel that I've found my permanent salon which has taken about 6 months of trying since moving to Forest Hills. I used to be a loyal customer for years. However, under the new management, things have declined dramatically. They can't even take appointments, staff that answer the phone is not quite proficient in English and do not record your appointment anywhere. It happened to me twice when I went to my phone-scheduled appointment and they didn't know of my appointment. Plus, I feel that they allow way too many people in that small space. Although they have a sign for customers not to use their cell phones, they are afraid to enforce it. It is called a SPA, because people go to relax.
