I came in at 2:38 stood at the front desk and the representative behind the desk didn't acknowledge me after a few minutes. I asked is this where I should check in and she seemed bewildered by my question. She asked if I have an appointment and I said yes. She said Safie was getting the room ready. After 5 additional minutes passes I asked does Safie know I'm here? She asked another lady who works there and she said oh she has someone else in the room. The receptionist asked oh two people came in at the same time. I was just a bit taken back because the communication for a client was non existent - no greeting, no explanation of check in just no acknowledgment. When Safie did come out she said you can go to the room in the back and get undressed again no greeting. The room was on the smaller side and I didn't see any place to hang my clothing. I waited for an additional 5 minutes for Safie to come to the room. When she came the she asked if I was getting a Brazilian which I responded yes, and she said I gave you time to undress and I indicated I couldn't locate a place to hang my clothing. She closed the door and showed me the hook on the back door. I would have never thought to look there as the door was open when I came to the room. Someone should have given me instructions want me to the wrong as it was my first time in that location. Safie, services were good but a bit rough and I've been sugaring for 10 years. I just left and I went in for sugaring + tint for my eyebrows. And honestly I feel like for the price of $35, no proper shaping was done, there's tint above my eyebrows, a whole piece of my left eyebrow is missing and nevertheless lots of hair still needing to be removed even from in between my eyebrows.. I'm not sure if I caught them at a bad time or what but the service was nice. I am just very upset with my eyebrows considering I grew them out for this. I have a vacation coming up and I have to get them fixed somewhere else. I wish for the price, I got a better job done. I have an appointment for a Brazilian a few days from now and I have to cancel.. I don't want to waste my money again. I arrived and when I reach I was informed that the srv I paid for she can't do it . I believe I was going to get a foot treatment and the supplies she needed didn't arrive by UPS yet. She running me down n telling me she was there until I tell her I had pic's. She was sooooo unapologetic and was more concerned with you wanna book or what . I think she just came to the store bc that's the same time they opened n that's when she called . This is the problem ppl love feel they can run store bc they like what it brings the money . Fortunately for me I had the pleasure of being greeted by Sarah and another young lady whose name I didnt catch because she was taking in her client. Sarah was who I was going to be baring my soul to and the minute I step foot in The Sugar Bar, I felt like I just met up with my homegirls I grew up with. Sarah was so comforting, she explained the differences between waxing and sugaring and every step of the way she made sure I was ok to keep going. Before I knew it I was bare and we were finito. My only qualm is that I'll be moving out of state and can't take Sarah with me lol. I had a 4:30pm appointment as a first time customer. I received a call at 3:30 telling me that the person who was supposed to do my sugaring had to leave for the day. When I asked if there was any else who could do it, I was told no. Very Poor customer service. I'm going on vacation and was relying on this getting done. They charge a cancellation fee, however, what does the customer get when they cancel? Absolutely nothing. So, I'm writing this review to the best of my ability and I wanted to make sure that I was able to give an honest and true review, so that anyone who has doubts or second thoughts, I hope this will be able to help you out on making your decision. I just booked a full body with Brazilian and this is the second time I will be going back to get my sugaring done. My first sugaring session with The Sugar Bar NYC, I had volunteered and gotten my lower leg and Brazilian done approximately 2 months and 2 weeks ago. I can't tell you how happy and pleased I was with the results and not only the results, but Saudia was sooooo sweet and patient. She was training someone at the time and she's such a peoples' person. I have been waxing for over 3 years now and I always dread going, but I go because I hate to see hair on my body and razors and cream removal products have had horrible effects on my skin in the past, hence me turning to waxing. I came across their Instagram page and they were asking for volunteers and I had never done sugaring before and had heard many good things about it, so I decided to give it a try for myself. Normally after a week of waxing, I would feel stubbles after a week or so and then I would be so frustrated because waxing isn't exactly pain free...I would see colours of the rainbow, when it was time for my Brazilian and I would always feel the after effects of my skin feeling like I had fallen down a flight of stairs and hit every part of my body possible. However, I had braced myself for the worst when it was time for me to head for the sugaring appointment that was reserved for me. When I got their I was welcomed, greeted and Saudia was sooo nice, courteous and very knowledgeable. I can tell you that the Brazilian sugaring for me, ways a complete breeze and was almost pain free. I barely felt a thing and the hair grew back so thin and slowly, it took over a whole month to grow back and there are parts that have surprisingly stopped growing, which is awesome because sugaring does that, as it was explained to me. I went in for a full face with eyebrows sugaring session. It was my first time getting sugared, I mentioned to the esthetician that my skin usually breaks out with regular wax so I was curious to see if sugaring would be more gentle in my skin. She barely talked to me as we got started, she was busy loudly talking to another technician in the room next door. She started by dusting my face with scented baby powder, not sure if this is standard practice but I'm sensitive to certain scents so a face full of baby powder already had me feeling uncomfortable. Next she proceeded to apply the sugar, she mentioned that the consistency of the sugar she was using wasn't right but she continued to use it on my face. She asked about the baby hairs on my hairline and I said I don't do usually do anything with them but she said she was going to try to "fix" it. The result is my hairline looks quite different... I did come in with my eyebrows slightly uneven, but in her quest to "fix" and "train" my brows, I left with my brows still looking bushy and ungroomed. Furthermore, my skin broke out worse than it ever has even with traditional waxing. I also felt the price was too high for this service. Overall, not a great experience. Based on the pictures and other reviews I suppose their speciality is Brazilians and lash lifts. I would not recommend them for the type of service I went in for. read more

Came here for the Brazilian and just had such a bad time. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. I've had a couple of waxes in the past and my pain tolerance is high so I would know the difference between a good wax and a wax that just was terribly done. 1. I got burnt a few times, she told me to let her know but the wax is already on my skin? Also why would you apply wax fast on the skin? I teared during the session and cried in my car after: 2. She exceeding the spreading too the point where it was equally as painful as the removing because she pulling on my hair. I've have never seen a place that would spread wax on SUCH A LARGE AREA. 3. She left the room twice to take care of another customer. And she didn't think to change her gloves. She touching me in a sensitive area and when I asked her to, her response was "oh I didn't touch anything" when I heard her fixed whatever equipment she was fixing up for the other client. No no no. 4. She would wax the same area like 3-4 times. That's terrible for such sensitive skin. I left, paid and tipped which I regret because this painful experience was not worth the money.
