About 3 years ago my sister bought me a bracelet from this store, I loved it so much I went and bought another and got them both shortened for no extra charge. A little over 2 years after wearing those bracelets everyday constantly, I lost one after it fell off, and the other broke off. I went to get it fixed and they were super nice, replacing the whole bracelet with no extra charge. New but identical bracelet broke again 2 days after I went and got it replaced. I brought it back to the store, and one of the woman fixed it for me, I bought another one just because I thought it was bad luck. The day after, it broke, and about 6 days after the other one also broke. I thought the quality was so good but unfortunately that has changed. It's obvious the bracelets are not worth the money for only lasting one day. The links are much much weaker than they were a few years ago. Very disappointing as I really like the bracelets. I really wanted to love this jewelry store, and for a little while I did. When I was at the UW, it seemed to have everything you could want: in-person, nearby, higher quality than costume jewelry (or I thought), permanent jewelry, etc. However, since then I have not had any positive experiences with their jewelry. I have bought multiple gold filled pieces from here, all of which have tarnished. My first purchase was a gold filled ring, it tarnished in less than a month. Then a gold filled chain that tarnished after about 8 months. And my permanent gold filled bracelet that I've noticed is starting to turn my wrist green after less than 2 years. Some may say that gold filed jewelry is still a form of plated jewelry and nothing is guaranteed to last like solid gold. HOWEVER, I am an AVID jewelry lover who knows everything there is to know about jewelry. I only wear gold filled (and the occasional solid gold investment pieces) as it has been the only type of gold jewelry other than solid gold to actually withstand everyday wear & tear without paying a fortune for solid gold. Unfortunately I have not experienced this with ANY of the so called gold filled jewelry Something Silver sells. I have bought countless gold filled pieces on Etsy & have not experienced tarnishing even after YEARS of owning/consistently wearing the pieces. They have also been pretty unhelpful when trying to reach out to them about the issues since I no longer have the physical receipts/they couldn't find my purchases in the system (even though the only one I really cared about - the necklace- was purchased less than a year). If they're prices were significantly lower for gold filled (less than $30 for dainty pieces) I would say go for it since they have cute designs, just know it won't last. However, since the cheapest gold filled jewelry you can seem to get here starts at $30 at the bare minimum and tarnishes so quickly, you're better off to spend that money on Etsy where shops sell affordable and high quality/long lasting gold filled jewelry without the overpriced jewelry store price tag. The only reason I didn't give 1 star is that they did fix my permanent bracelet for free even though it was past their 1 year policy, but I think that's because the owner was there & he is very nice. Honestly, this is definitely a 3 star store only because the jewelry they carry are varied brands that are trendy and cute, with some pieces that are timeless. They are moderately priced which is good. However, they need to work on their customer service skills a little more. The ring i was looking for, for the last couple of months, was a simple rose quartz ring. (I've been almost everywhere, even portland!) The girl helping me told me they didn't have any at the moment until I pointed at the ring sitting in the glass case. She was nice and I have no problems with her, but it would been great if the staff knew their products a little more. If they understood their stones, it would have been a major bonus, especially since their competition, Fireworks, is literally a few steps away from them. (Fireworks isn't their major competitor, but the store carries gemstone jewelry - and the staff was extremely helpful and one girl, i forget her name, was knowledgeable about the stones!) We used to frequent this store every time we visited U Village. They have --had--a nice mix of more expensive, high quality jewelry as well as lower priced earrings and bracelets that teens could afford. The young ladies working there were polite and helpful, and we almost always bought something. Not sure what's changed but the last couple of times we've been in there the past few months, everything--from the store arrangement to the selection to salespeople's attitudes--have drastically changed. The middle aged lady was snotty and the younger one didn't bother to even acknowledge us. They no longer carry 2 of the artists we tend to buy from. Has this shop changed ownership or management? I love this little jewelry shop in the middle of the main hallway of University Village shopping center. They showcase some really talented local artists along with some nationally recognized jewelry makers. The girls who work here are super friendly and helpful and will help you find exactly what you're looking for. They aren't pushy or aggressive and I don't ever feel like they pressure curious customers to buy the products they are just taking a look at. The pieces speak for themselves so the people who work here don't have to be in your face! It is called Something Silver so do expect most things to be in sterling silver metal, however they also have some things accented in gold or gold fill/gold plating. I'm always concerned if something is gold plated or filled as it matters in terms of the color of the metal changing. I've been going to the Something Silver stores for a long time now, mainly the Bellevue Square one. In general they have all sorts of jewelry, and its kinda a good one stop shopping place. You're not limited to just one brand (though they tend to just carry a few major ones), and you can buy cheap good quality earrings (I have $8 fake diamond studs in) or you can get moderately expensive items. It's a good place to find gifts too. The only reason why its 4 stars for this specific store is because the employees made me feel a little uncomfortable while I shopped. They snickered and giggled, I hope about something other than me, but it didn't feel that way. They also weren't very quick to help. Terrible service. As usual. I've been coming to the store for years and it's always been fine. Not great ever and usually people working there look like they don't want to be there. But today when I called the woman was really so unhelpful and rude. So I wanted a specific charm for a necklace for my mom. I looked on the website found what I was looking for. I wanted to call the store first to check if they had it at that store before driving down. A woman answers the phone and I very politely ask if she could check if they have something in the store I saw online. I explained I wanted to see if they had it before I drove down. The staff were always more or less indifferent and seemed more interested in the overly-loud music than in the clients' needs. But the quality of the merchandise outweighed this inconvenience until today (March 5th) when the sole staff member overstepped the line and felt it necessary to tell me intimate details of her personal problems when I happened to make a joke about kids, which she didn't appreciate. I do not bring my personal life to my shopping expeditions and I don't expect staff in shops to bare their problems with fertility to me and inject there into my shopping life. I had purchased a necklace which my daughter received for a Christmas present. When she went to put it on the chain broke. I brought the item into the store and the sales lady couldn't exchange it because all of the designers pieces were sent to headquarters for consolidation. Bummer! But she did say she could take the item and the designer could repair or replace it. I told her that would be great. The reason I am giving 5 stars is I also wanted to purchase a few items and she offered me a discount without my asking. I thought this was great customer service. I got married this summer and needed jewelry for myself and the wedding party. I was able to find all of my jewelry at Something Silver, for myself, my bridesmaids, husband, and flower girls. I was able to get personalized necklaces for the flower girls, which made it extra special. Also, my bridesmaids and myself still wear all of the jewelry worn in the wedding. I was extremely happy with all of the help from the staff. When I showed the staff photos of the dresses and the wedding decor, they were able to find jewelry that matched the wedding attire and the wedding perfectly. This store is almost always empty. Meaning no customers inside. No hello when you come in, no offering for help. Sales people are "busy" with themselves at this location. I asked to look at the necklace behind the closed glass door, SA would not even give it to me. I asked for another one, it was the same. All the prices turned down, so you can't see the price, everything (close to 99% items) is behind the glass. They are just incredibly unhelpful. When the sales person, after I asked her to help me twice. decided not to show me the ring, because she said, she does not understand me. In other words, Customer Neglect. I roll my eyes and she asked me to leave the store. The woman looked in her 18. It is not a high school and it is not a popularity contest. I am not a boyfriend to show me at the door either. I used to buy staff at your store, not anymore, it is just so bad there are not that many silver places around, Well guys, with such terrible customer service I do wish this location will eventually be closed. If you treat customer without any typical welcoming gestures, you will not make sales. And your return policy make it even more unlikely to happen either. I have shopped at this jewelry store for over 2 years now and have had good luck with the customer service and quality of sterling silver that I have bought. I went in to the store around noon today and had picked a handful of goodies for presents and personal use. I was gathering my stash on a counter to sort out which ones I would really like to purchase after letting a lady go through first since she only had 3 pieces in her basket, when suddenly I heard someone called out "Hey Kiddo!" in a different tone. Yes, she said that and I confirmed with her and asked "Did you just call me Hey Kiddo?" She reaffirmed and the ladies behind me heard what the lady behind the counter blurted out, too. Her tone of saying it was totally different, something that has some other meaning to it. Really nauseating. I said to her after she counted my over $50 purchase that I think it would be nicer if she had called me by my name but since she did not know me, she could have said something else, i.e. "Excuse me" or something much nicer and better to hear. So I said to her that saying "Hey Kiddo" to someone is being inappropriate. She went on to continue and the ladies behind me were also flabbergasted! I almost wanted to throw up and even though it was an usually busy day, it should not matter. Courtesy, respect, customer service should still be a priority. I kindly asked her who is the manager of the store and the same lady who said ":Hey Kiddo" proudly replied, "I am!" I took her name down and she is SHAUNA or SHAWNA. The other lady who was also helping out behind the counter and the other customers like me who asked for a basket so we don't spill was Glory or Glorie. All the ladies and friendly gentleman also (sorry don't know all of their names) have always been courteous. I've never been called "Hey Kiddo" in my shopping experience much less in my over 50 years of life! That was first and coming from a Store Manager of a highly reputable company in a very nice UVillage - that is unprecedented and absolutely ABSURD. Very disrespectful. I saw some ladies manning the front of the store and I told them what just had happened. They all apologized to me. It seemed like this lady manager must have a big A for attitude. I'm under the impression that the other staff are probably just afraid to say something to the owner or the company in the light of a possible repercussion. I am writing this because it is now almost 6 hours since the incident and I have put out this incident on social media. Not to stop shopping at this particular store but avoid Shauna. I'll never forget her face and name. Like what Maya Angelou had said, " It is not what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
