He's a five-pound chihuahua who shakes when someone new walks in the room and basically lived on my lap or behind my knees. I'd worried a trainer would either give up on him or scare him worse, but from the very first day Gina put so much thought into making him feel safe. She texted that afternoon to say he'd already jumped into her daughter's arms. When he barely ate the first couple days and I got worried, she talked me through it and told me he'd come around, which he did. She took him on long walks around the park and the neighborhood to burn off his nerves before she ever asked anything of him. His crate became his safe spot at her house, a familiar place that was all his in the middle of a busy home with other dogs and parrots and training going on. And she started him on tiny, predictable rules, sitting before a door, coming when called, so he always had something he understood to hold onto in a new situation. She explained that for an anxious dog, knowing what to expect is half the battle. She also refused to pick him up every time he got scared, and warned me that part would be harder for me than for him. She was right. Somewhere around the second week he started smiling in the photos. He was hanging out with her little dogs and her family, going on field trips to the park and coffee shops, staying on his place while she walked away, heeling next to her. He knows sit, place, heel and here now, and he does them for me too. The turnover at my apartment took a couple hours and it was real work. She sat me down and explained everything before we ever touched the dog, then had me practice with Archie while she corrected what I was doing wrong. She's kept sending reminders and answering my questions since, including a few dumb ones about shampoo and brushes. Here's the part I still can't get over. We went to a party a couple weeks after he got home, which is a huge deal for Archie. He sat on other people's laps. He licked hands. He barely cowered. Six weeks ago he would have spent the whole night shaking under my chair. Everyone at the party noticed and commented on the change in his demeanor. I was a proud mama that day! If your dog is the anxious type, the one who hides, trembles, won't eat around strangers, or has to be carried everywhere, I really want you to hear this. A lot of trainers are set up for big confident dogs and don't know what to do with a scared little one. Gina does. She never rushed him, never forced him, and never made me feel silly for babying him all these years. She reads a nervous dog and meets them where they are, then slowly builds them up until they can handle the world on their own. That's exactly what Archie needed. I honestly feel like Gina is just getting started with him, and I'm already thinking of when I can work with her again. If you have a tiny, anxious dog and you're on the fence, go with Gina. Archie is a different dog and so am I. Thank you again for everything you did for him, and for me. Archie sends smooches. Sheri

I can't say enough good things about Brandi and Perry Bailey of RSK9. Their work has given my pup…read moreand I so much freedom and balance. Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. From here there is so much more that can be refined and Brandi/Perry really capitalize on that threshold being crossed!

Words cannot express how much I appreciate Meghan and her team (and especially my regular sitter…read moreCarrie) for the excellent care of my two kitties,Tia and Toby. I moved to Gainesville in 2017. My job responsibilities involve frequent out of town travel and my girl Tia required daily meds, so I really needed someone I could trust. Additionally my husband is not fond of my cats and is very particular about having "strangers" in the house, so that was another obstacle to overcome. The first cat sitter I found only came once or twice, i wasn't feeling that she was taking the best care of them. The second one i had was very good and I trusted her, but she ended up quiting because of my husband's complaints over small things. Totally panicked and needing to travel again soon,  I searched and found Meghan's Pet Care - and I'm so fortunate and thankful to have found her. Meghan was responsive, professional, patient, and reasonably priced. On short notice, they came out and met my kitties and picked up the key. Carrie became my regular pet sitter and she took EXCELLENT care of my babies. She sent me pics of them frequently and always texted me when she went to the house to let me know status. I could rest easy knowing my babies were in good hands under her care. It was a breath of fresh air having someone I could trust. One weekday morning my husband called to tell me Tia didn't look well at all. I called Meg and she got Carrie to go to the house promptly. She told me Tia was emaciated and needed to go to the vet. She promptly took her in and kept me updated, picked her up later that day, and took Tia home with her that evening to keep an eye on her. She sent me pics that night of Tia snuggling with her kids - me being so far away and unable to care for her myself, that was sooo comforting to see. Carrie brought Tia back home the next day and made sure she had her prescribed meds and food until I returned home that weekend. When I got home, I was overjoyed to see Tia looking perky, alert, and well. Unfortunately Tia fell illl again on Sunday night - and very early Monday morning, she unexpectedly passed away. I was distraight, I had Tia for 14 years and was very attached to her, this was one of the saddest times of my life - I never had a pet die in my home before, I was alone and didn't know what to do - so I reached out to Meghan and Carrie. Carrie called my vets office as soon as they opened and sent me pricing for them to handle cremation and other options. She also offered to come pick up Tia if I needed her to, and she provided comforting and kind words and guidance in my time of grief and confusion. I cannot tell you how much this meant to me. But more importantly, only because of Carrie's prompt attention and care during the previous week, I got to spend that one last weekend snuggling with my girl - and for that, I will be forever grateful.

Joey is always excited when we are pulling up the driveway to SM! While away this most recent trip we changed our plans to extend our vacation, Jennifer allowed Joey to extent his stay which made our time much more relaxing and enjoyable! Upon pick-up Joey was happy, healthy and clearly had been well cared for during his stay.

The abundance of 5-star reviews reassured us, and we even scheduled a one-night trial stay to test it before our longer family trip. During that visit, we were promised strong communication, regular photo updates, and a high standard of care while we were away. Sadly, our actual experience was the complete opposite. While traveling in Asia, we were told we'd receive regular updates. Instead, we got only three photos over a span of 10 days--and only after multiple follow ups and texts from our side. The lack of communication and unease made it difficult for any of us to enjoy our trip and we knew something was not right. When it came time for pickup, the owner was not even present. Just a few hours before we landed, we received a text informing us that our dog was injured and her teenage son would be there for pick up. There was no explanation, no phone call, no attempt to take responsibility, and not a single follow-up to check on how she was doing after. It felt cold, negligent, and deeply unprofessional. We later learned the injury was a torn ACL requiring surgery. What's most upsetting is that we had clearly disclosed a prior ACL injury in the intake paperwork--on the opposite leg. That information was either ignored or not reviewed at all. There was no transparency, no apology, and absolutely no concern for how serious the injury was. We chose Sugar Maple Farm because we wanted a safe and trusted place. When something went wrong, there was no accountability--only deflection. That trust was completely broken. It's devastating to watch our dog struggle with pain and limited mobility, and to know she now faces a 12-15 week recovery from a surgery that may have been preventable with proper care. We came home expecting to see her happy and healthy. Instead, we're managing a serious injury with no answers on what happened. If you value your dog's safety and well-being, I urge you to look elsewhere. Sugar Maple Farm may have glowing reviews, but our experience was proof that when things go wrong, this facility does not step up.

We have a rescue, and those with a rescue dog understand the potential issues that come with them…read more Ours is nervous in new environments, fearful of loud noises and large objects, and anxious around strangers. But he's a totally normal playful happy puppy at home, around family, and once he gets to know the stranger. Unfortunately we sometimes go out of town and require boarding facilities. We tried another place in Warrenton, I won't name, but it claimed to be a suite for pets. Booked a 4 day stay and we're not sure what happened but our dog came back more nervous that he left. It took 2 weeks before he was back to himself. He also had what looked to be a callous on both front legs which he did not have when we dropped him off. His blanket also smelled of urine, which was totally strange because even with all his complexes he NEVER goes to the bathroom in the house. He'll whine and moan and stand by the door until we take him out. Needless to say we never went back there again. I tried another place in old town Haymarket. Were I was not given a tour of the facilities and grounds. Instead they took my dog in the back right away and let me watch his experience on the monitors at the front desk. But they didn't seem to know how to take care of a rescue like our dog. They took him in the back into the indoor play room and tried to integrate him into the pack way too soon. Not giving him time to acclimate. Instead of joining the pack he stayed with the young lady that brought him back there. Knowing my dog it would have been better to introduce him to one dog at a time instead of overwhelming him with a pack. Because he didn't immediately join the pack they told me he wasn't a good candidate. I think the young lady (teenager) was possibly inexperienced or wasn't trained well. Had she been, she would he have tried a different approach. Especially after I informed her of the best way for our dog to meet new people and dogs. Then we found Pawsawhile. We had the walk through and yes it's a converted house but the property is huge with large fenced outdoor play areas. We were shown the entire property and facility and in no time or Dog was playing with the nun that was showing us around. He was walking with her, coming to her when called, fetching the ball. And I love how she didn't force herself on him, she allowed him to come to her making a great connection with him. We've been using them for daycare 1 day a week so he can play with other dogs and boarding when we travel. Now Our dog will drag us into the building when he goes there, he seems so happy. When we drop him off he gladly goes with the handler and doesn't even look back at me to say goodbye, lol. I highly recommend PawsAWhile. Everyone we've come in contact with has been kind, and easy to talk to, and very responsive. Twice in the last several months, my dog has been injured by other dogs. The first time she ended up with a hole in her ear from a bite, which they called and informed me about. I went to get her and she was oddly in good spirits but has a gnarly tooth hole in the tip of her ear. I monitored overnight and cleaned her up, since emergency vet visits after-hours are costly and the injury wasn't life-threatening. We lucked out in that instance, and I wish that was the end. Maybe it should've been for me, but I know dogs will be dogs. It bothered me, and I ignored a gut instinct telling me it could've been avoided by better temperament monitoring etc. I wish I'd listened. January 2025: the long and short of it is that at pickup time the excited dogs tend to go bananas and cluster by the door. Apparently not one but TWO dogs got aggressive in this moment when my dog was being jumped on and signaled with a 'yelp' that she wasn't a happy camper...and the other two dogs involved (daycare's details, given to me from camera review) did not appreciate it; one left a tooth gouge so deep in my dogs back that it actually looked like a long, gaping incision - that we had to take her and our other dog in tow immediately to the emergency vet where she was sedated and required surgical care and 2-3 weeks of follow ups, stitch removal, and for me to take several days off of work to monitor and nurse her to a comfortable point so I could return. $1000.00 later, I've now asked them several times via email for what my recourse options were. No acknowledgement. What's worse is the acknowledgements I did get avoid addressing those comments or concerns, and are simply "Ok great thanks for keeping us posted!" They'd only reply with their best wishes for my dog, and that they'd make sure the other two dogs weren't in open play with mine - plus a "warning." Conveniently, no acknowledgement of my concerns about the financial hardship or questions about what my next steps were. I read the fine print in my liability with them on day one: you are responsible for any costs or repercussions of property damage, injury, etc. caused by your pets and Dogtopia was not. Which is fine, I signed it with full knowledge that could happen; dogs will be dogs. I had to put this issue on hold for a bit as the winter was not kind to us circumstantially. Now it's time to see if my dogs are ready for daycare again and some grooming, and things have calmed a bit so I could give this my attention yet again. 4/23/25 I sent a final email to them about it, and not shockingly at all, zero reply or acknowledgement. At least, not until I asked a very direct question - which I will get to momentarily. Initially I wanted to ensure that 1) the dogs who were warned would not be in open play with mine, so I wanted to warn them we were coming so they could be especially mindful (as you can imagine, my paranoia is in high amounts all things considered) and 2) if I could inquire about how to contact the two other dog owners to discuss the costs of the injuries further. I was quickly told no, they don't share pet parent info. I replied and said well, I read your liability rules you made me sign and they say that pet parents are solely responsible for the consequences and costs of their dogs damage or injury. So how do you expect me to accomplish that if you won't give me that info to make contact? It's now been a week, well past the reasonable time to reply to an email, so I can only deduce that yet again I am being ghosted and I'm done trying to remedy this with people insistent on being unprofessional and avoidant. I suppose I will have to take further recourse against the daycare if they won't follow their own policies. This is deeply saddening that I've spent probably in the thousands of dollars in 10 years just to lose this option for my girls. And to be treated like a casual afterthought when if I were the recipient of that last email, I'd at least sense the importance of a reply nonetheless maybe involving someone of actual authority and tenure there to help manage my request. Make no mistake, it will be settled as I don't intend to shrug it off. I just wish it didn't have to be the hard way, as I've had enough of that all things considered. I don't want to tell other consumers "stay away!" because that's not my place. But this has been my experience.
