I've lived in the heights for several years. I went to someburger when I first got here and it was alright, but cheap prices. I went back recently and man, they make a good burger. It was great. They do steak fries, which I'm generally not a fan of, but they were still good. And the prices are still so low. I got a the burger, fries and bottled coke for about $11. The fries are on the thick side which I like but the biggest thing to know is they are not salted so ask for some. Burgers are made fresh and the buns are nicely toasted. I got a double since the patties are a little thin and I was super hungry. A single is enough for most occasions. Seeing some negative reviews made me want to leave one. I think it's a pretty good burger for being the only burger you can get that doesn't cost more than $10 in the heights. You can add an egg to it too and it's soo good. When I think of a classic cheese burger this is the spot! Iconic. I think this place is deserving of being called a Houston icon. I do not eat this type of food often, but this will definitely be my go to place. Everything tasted fresh. Loved the perfectly toasted buns on my cheeseburger (Mayo AND Mustard, thank you very much). The onion rings were outstanding. That is some Burger this place had been here like forever and is just about the cheapest place in the in the Area for something quick to eat there's no drive-through and there's no indoor seating so this would be something to go and less there is nice weather they do have patio seating. Ok so this is not a craft burger or a fancy smancy grass-fed blah blah blah..... This is high school cafeteria, old fashioned flat top grilled, diner styled burger. It's nostalgic and delicious. Whatever you call it, I call it GOOD. I seriously love this burger. I drive out of my way to get it. Maybe I'm crazy but yeah I'm all about this burger. Now for the bad points: * older Mexican woman is rude as HELL * cash ONLY * small parking lot * no dining area but one outside table near dumpster Anyway the younger girls that work there are very nice and cool. The price is comparable to fast food chains. You get plenty of fries in an order. Onion rings were a little dark, but I was told they were good still (I don't eat them). It was a lazy Saturday evening when my gf and I--broke as a joke--suddenly craved anything and everything in The Heights: Collinas, Thai Spice, Onion Creek, Golden Seafood ... SOMEBURGER. Yes! A hot dog on a warm early evening in the middle of July sounded almost too perfect. Like I said, we was broke! Well, more so on a budgie, so we were golden with our two dogs, two fries and two diet cokes for under ten buckaroos. We did expect a hefty dog with all the fixins, but at Someburger, they're regular-sized franks on a toasted bun with onions, ketchup and mustard ... they do have more sides, just ask--but they do charge extra for "extra" sides ... even extra ketchup which come in packets. Hmm. Peeps are right about the service here. They're not rude, just not friendly. Soon as your order is taken and you're given your ticket, the window is slammed (hey, it IS hot outside) and you're left abandoned for a good while with fellow patrons (read: food takes some time, but that's the upside; grub is made to order). Always make sure they included your soda in the total. A few times they said they forgot to charge me, and insisted I pay again--but tell 'em to redo the math and see that you DID pay. And just 'cause you tip them, doesn't necessarily mean you won't be charged for those extra pickles as mentioned earlier. Geez. Honestly I've been to many burger places around Houston and this was definitely some burger. Great flavor and not too greasy. Definitely hit the spot and is not overpriced like everything else in the heights is. It's simple but delicious. I think it's at a great location but trying to cater to the wrong crowd, they should definitely consider staying open late after hours on the weekend. This little burger stand is awesome! It's been there for more than 50 years, and I think most of the employees have been as well, but it was so nostalgic to order from their menu. The beef patties could use a little TLC, The french fries were french fries and the chocolate shake was delicious. It would be nice if they went to a simple credit card system even like Square. Burger joint nomenclature can be a bit confusing. Some places want to convey the grandeur and superiority of their offerings, while others want to subtly understate the greatness of their fare. But that might leave you to wonder, why would I want to go to the Texas Burger Shack, when I could go to the Texas Hamburger PALACE? Why would I want to eat just Someburger, when I could have a MYTI burger? Well, the proof, as they say, is in the patty. Ok, nobody says that. But they should. The Someburger Hamburger Stand at 11th and Studewood is no bigger than a boxcar, but they put out burgers with big taste. A thin patty cooked on a flat griddle comes out hot and juicy on a gently toasted bun with mustard or mayo, add your own ketchup, and lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. The fries are soft and potatoey yet crispy on the outside, and salted to perfection. All this and a drink ran me $6.50, and a burger by itself is around 3 bucks and change. But don't forget a delicious chocolate shake to go along with your burger stand feast, and don't forget your cash, because they don't take cards. There might be a bit of a line around lunch time, and it can take a little while making your burger to order, but if you call ahead your burger will be ready when you get there, and you'll see that this isn't just any burger, this is SOMEburger. read more

The heights has some charm, but not really compared to neighborhoods of the like in other cities. The lot and locale has so much potential, but its all just "there", surviving. The food. Its basic. very basic. and for the price is should be beyond basic. Everything is kinda butterd or deep fried which is good for the first few bites of anything, but then its just starts to be salty, flavorless low grade ingredients. the menu is terrible. No options, no info, no prices, no personality. I have been to some wonderful shit hole burger joints in Chicago and Seattle. One glorious stand out in a seedy part of town -- You walk up to the glowing fluorescent two foot high slit of the dilapidated building -- peak in to give your order, and behind the sweaty line cooks is the hugest most elaborate custom written menu you have ever seen. Its glorious in its shear information overload and creativity. You want a fried twinky served on buttered keiser roll dipped in liquid cheddar and sprinkle with jalpenos. They have it on the board! [ JK! ] Sorry for the descriptive tangent -- Someburger's service is down right unfriendly. Not rude, which is cool in its own way. Not super busy, hard to get your order in, there is hardly a line. Its just slow and no personality, no smile, no charming protocal of how to order the local favorite. The decoration of the window hasn't been updated in six years, and nothing up is even slightly interesting... So basically what it boils down to is downright laziness up kept by just enough customers for people like myself or nostalgics to think there might be something deeper. Nope. Someburger is the classic walk-up hamburger stand that's miraculously survived into the 21st century. It's another blast from the past: Old-school thin-patty hamburgers, lovingly prepared on a classic flat griddle. All the usual toppings are available, and they're fresh and tasty. The staff at Someburger are great; many have been there for years. These folks know burgers, and take pride in what they do. And it shows. Sides are quite good: Best are the onion rings, which are fried properly, only slightly greasy, and have a nice snap to them. There's no dining room, but there are a handful of picnic tables outside the hamburger stand. Many folks choose to eat in their vehicles, especially during a hot Houston summer. By today's standards, the burgers are downright cheap. $6 buys a burger, fries, and a Coke, and a slice of Texas history to boot. Someburger. What a great name! It matches the funky green hut that houses this burger joint. I'm liking Albert N's odds so far as to recommendations. He hasn't steered me wrong yet! Our burgers were very tasty. The burger stand experience is certainly nostalgic. The Cheese Burger is a pretty direct affair. One thing that adds to it though is that they grill the buns on the same grill really well, so it fuses that beast together to the deliver the Yum factor. We also had a strawberry shake. This is a meager three stars.- more like two and a half. To preface this review, I'd like to say that my rating reflects the service more than the food(which IS delicious). The service on the other hand is impersonal and downright "mean!!!" Rude would be a compliment, in a quirky, new york city street vendor sorta way. Each time I drive or bike the 4 blocks it takes to get to this retro-tacky, lime green, rundown shack(which might I add is everything I look for in a burger joint) they have either closed nearly an hour early and told me to beat it OR I get this attitude upon ordering and receiving my burger that seems to just beg me never to come back. Buyer beware when you approach this innocent looking burger stand with the little old lady who will probably take your order.... She's anything but! Now, enough with the tangent-riddled slander. All points of service aside, the burgers here are fabulous!! Old fashioned, butter basted buns, excellent milk shakes, and fries or onion rings it doesn't matter, they both rock. The pricing as well is fair for what you receive. Despite the first paragraph, I will continue to go back to someburger. What can I say, it's a love-hate relationship.
