The energy at Solstice is warm and welcoming. I decided to give them a shot after reading several positive yelp reviews. I got an appointment with Jenny for a brazilian blowout and asked her several questions even after scheduling the appointment several times on the phone and she was always helpful with answers that were unbiased and honest. When I walked into the saloon I liked how clean and roomy it was. Jenny shampooed my hair for 15 mins which is part of the process, then applied the blowout ingredients and dried my hair for about half hour, then blowdried it. She gave me a trim and styled my hair after. I chose to wash my hair the next morning and it the process left my hair shiny and relaxed. I loved our friendly banter during the entire process. Jenny offered me a cool drink, gave me cookies to eat and gave me information on several local events which are great for me as I am relatively new in Mountain view. She also gave me a 20% off on the products I bought as I wanted to make the blowout last for 3-4 months and also told me that they will trim my bangs for free as long as I am their customer. Another solid reason to keep going back. I've been going to Soraya for probably 10 years now. She's a terrific colorist, and has transitioned me from brownish ugly to several years of such a natural red that people were surprised that it wasn't my own. A few years ago she eased me into blond, by adding more highlights each time. Again, very natural. She's cut my hair for so long she knows how much daily styling I'm capable of; she tried to talk me out of a cut she knew I wouldn't be able or willing to take the time to maintain. Needless to say, she was right. My husband has been going to Soraya for at least 5 years now, and she does a great job with his fine hair. He never has that "just had a haircut" look that looks weird for a couple of days. I haven't used any of the other services, so I can't comment on them. read more

I went to Solstice to make that infamous transition from brunette to blonde... I came out still a brunette. Because of that, i give four stars to an otherwise great salon! Soraya was clearly a hair-coloring expert, working four colors into my darker brown locks. She took the time to make my highlights look natural, which I really appreciate. I have to say I was a little disappointed that I didn't come out blonde, as I'd intended, but the job Soraya did was so artful and high-quality that I really can't complain! Ok Yelp really needs to get a category beyond 5 stars when something is truly exceptional and believe me my experience was. Carrie is the Wax Whisperer. NEVER EVER in my 15 years of waxing have I had one this good. No pain, my legs are buttery soft and not a single bit of skin irritation. I have done waxing here, and one haircut. CARRIE IS THE BEST WAXER EVER. So thorough, does what she can to minimize the pain, and always checks to make sure you are happy in the end. Carrie is a wonderful esthetician! Her technique of waxing doesn't hurt at all, and she's very accommodating with fitting me into her schedule. She waxes you in the privacy of her own room inside the salon. Her room is very clean and she is very thorough as she expertly gets the ingrown hairs without leaving a mark! Carrie also does facials, which helped with my complexion. She never tries to up-sell you something you don't need. Jenny cuts my hair exactly how I want and styles it so nicely that I wish she could do my hair for me everyday! She is very thorough and efficient, and shampoos/cuts/styles all in 45 min or less! She only takes cash, which is a bummer, but there's an ATM next door. I always call to make an appointment, as I never do walk-ins to a salon. Gloria did an incredible job on the hairstyle for my, my mom, and my bridesmaids on my wedding day last weekend in Gilroy. A few months beforehand, she did an awesome trial on my hair and right away was able to make it look just right! Gloria is calm, patient, kind, and communicated with me throughout my wedding planning process to know what hairstyles the bridesmaids were going for and what their hair was like naturally so she could plan accordingly. Me: Girl with long locks with a sh*t ton of split ends that dyes her hair every 3-4 months. Soraya: My hair stylist yesterday who had the decency to tell me that I needed to trim off more than 2 inches yesterday. I don't know when it happened, but I became one of those girls who gave up style for length. Those girls with the Rapunzel hair-do with a billion split ends. Eh, you get the point. So I went in to see Soraya for the first time yesterday and asked her for a trim, but then she recommended trimming off 3-4 inches to capture all the split ends. I wanted to keep my hair long, but alas I knew she was right and I needed it. She went ahead and chopped off my hair and dyed my roots (I have an abnormal amount of grey hairs...damn genes). She also cleaned up my layers and framed my face with some new layers. She used scissors for everything and used a comb-like scissor to shape up, not a razor). I ended up with a fresh cut and feeling like a huge burden was lifted. She missed some of my greys so her dye job was not fantastic, therefore she loses a star. Soraya is also a sweet woman that reminds you of a mom. I think it's also because she kept calling me dear. She can carry a conversation but isn't yapping your head off. read more

I recently got a bad haircut and needed someone to fix it for me - I wandered into this salon on a walk after work, met Jenny, and she told me to return in 15 minutes and she could fit me in for a quick dry cut. She did just that and actually didn't even charge me... amazing service for someone who isn't even her client (but now I sure will be). Tip: if you want an appointment, stop by the salon to make the first one as they don't have a receptionist all the time, hence the reviews where people can't get a hold of them to make appointments. I've been going to Atefeh for facials, waxing and threading for two years now! She is really fast with threading and waxing, making sure the painful parts aren't drawn out. I've never had any issues with irritation afterwards, nor have I left unhappy with my brows! As for her facials, they're extremely relaxing. I don't think I could say enough nice things about this salon. I am dear friends with everyone in this place and have been for many years. The atmosphere is one of a family, warm, inviting, loving, caring and full of fun. Each individual with their own unique personality blends well with eachother. For a small salon they offer the best of all practices: hairstyling, waxing, manicures/pedicures, facials and even electrolisys. Jenny (co-owner) has done my hair now for well over 17 years and has never steered me wrong. She's great at suggesting new styles and colours to fit/match your personality or mood. Don't get me wrong, the other stylests there are just as fantastic with their own special talents and have all been in the industy for plenty of years so no worry of a novice cutting your locks. I recommend any one of them (Jenny, Kathy, Bob, Soriah or Lisa). Please remember to make an appointment, Jenny is especially busy throughout the year and making an appointment will ensure that you get a time slot you really want. Carrie is the esthetician there and is fantastic. She has this full of energy personality and after speaking with her once you will feel like you've known her for years. She is very good at her facials and she can either do her skill in silence or chat up a storm with you, which ever you prefer. I know that everytime I have been in there to get a facial or waxing, I leave in tears! Not tears of pain, but of laughter!!! We have such a great time during my appointment when we walk out of her room the other stylists are asking the both of us what possibly could we have been talking about to make us laugh so hard! It's a great time all around! Parvaneh and Le are the nail techs and they are just fantasic at what they do. They take their time, make sure you get what you want and are perfectionists at their skill. They friendly, always smiling and very good. This place is really wonderful. Jenny, the owner, always makes you feel so welcome, like you're an old friend dropping by. It's a warm and friendly environment. The ladies are all sweet, nice, and stylish but unpretentious. The best stylists there in my opinion are either Jenny (difficult to get an appointment with) or Soraya. It's the only place I go. My only complaint is that I'm usually a spur of the moment kind of salon girl, and they are way too booked for that. You gotta book your time with them at least a week or two in advance. This is the first unsatisfied review I've ever written, but I feel like Carrie ripped me off for a long time and I just want people to be aware before choosing her to wax you. I was referred to Carrie by my boyfriend at the time who was good friends with her. I had never had a brasiian and she said it would be $50. She did a good job and I gave her a very generous tip. The next time I went, she said she had raised her brasilian rate to $75! I paid it, but was like wow, that was a big hike. She said if I referred friends I would get a discount. I referred two people and I never got any discount. In fact, she charged my one friend $90 for a brasilian because Carrie thought she was "annoying and weird!" Carrie also takes forever to wax you! My average appointment time was 90 min to 2 hrs for a brasilian! Her charges were all over the board. Sometimes $70, sometimes $80. I realized that Carrie was charging everyone differently depending on how much she thought she could get from you. Finally, someone suggested European Wax Center which only charges $42 for a brasilian (and $21 for your first time there)! They do a great job and it only takes 15 min! Don't waste your time and money seeing Carrie. She will not reward your loyalty or your good-tipping. read more

Jenny has been styling my hair for over three years now and I have no complaints. She is fun, creative and very good at what she does. She is also very fast. Carrie is the best Brazilian bikini waxer out there! She is extremely professional, efficient and gets the job done with less pain than others. Her wax (hard wax) is by far much better quality than the less expensive strip waxes but it best for sensitive parts of our skin, such as our hoohaa. I have to say that by far it is the best salon in the Bay Area. Soraya is the best hair stylist, very precise and professional, she masters at coloring and haircuts. My mom comes once a year from Argentina, and all she wants before going back home, is to have a haircut and highlights done by Soraya.
