I've been going to J59 (back when it was JulieQ in Mountain View) for over 15 years, so this review is especially disappointing for me to write. This was the first time I decided to get partial highlights. During my consultation, Stephanie recommended a color approach that sounded good, so I moved forward with both a haircut and highlights appointment. , What surprised me was that they did the haircut first and fully blow-dried my hair to check the cut before starting the highlighting process. After the highlights were applied, my grays still weren't covered, so they did an additional touch-up. That meant my hair was blow-dried multiple times in a single appointment, including after bleaching. I left with hair that felt significantly drier than before. I was also unhappy with the initial color result because the highlights looked patchy. To their credit, the salon contacted me and offered to bring me back for a correction, which I appreciated. At the follow-up appointment, Stephanie showed me a chocolate brown highlight color and asked if I liked it. I said yes, and she explained that a toner would be an easy fix. After the toner was applied, however, the highlights were essentially no longer visible. I have naturally dark hair, and now it looks very close to my original color. The end result is that after multiple chemical processes, multiple rounds of heat styling, several hours in the salon, and over $300 spent, I no longer have visible highlights, and my hair feels dry, brittle, and damaged. I appreciate that the salon attempted to correct the issue, but unfortunately, the final result left me disappointed. I would trust Anthony with my life lol. I am so happy with the work he has done on my hair! You can tell he really knows what he's doing - he'll take my ask and through conversation, create a version of it that best suits me. He takes service and experience to the next level, it almost like hiring a consultant for your hair lol. He's very easy to coordinate with logistically as well, and very responsive. I'm actually so disappointed with my experience here... the first time I came they did a wonderful job with my hair. This time, I asked for a subtle red wine hair color and showed them what I wanted. However, they dyed it black with purple highlights. I didn't like it so they offered to do it again. Another 6 hours go by and this time, it became a bright raspberry red. It made me look like an anime character and I was sad for days. Now my hair is turning blue after one month and it stained all my clothes, my bathtub and even my bed. My favorite hairstylist Anthony recently moved to this place. My second time coming here - to this location. The salon is small and cute. It's in downtown Mountain View and there's ample street parking. I have never had trouble parking here, but I also don't think I have come at peak hours. If you plan to come here, I might recommend coming a bit early so you have enough time to find parking. About Anthony- he is absolutely amazing. A magician and my best kept secret now revealed . I finally worked up the nerve to try out a hair style I've wanted to do for years. I did an initial consultation with Anthony where we discussed what I would like, an undercut that goes all around with the top part kept as long, and the ponytail bleached so it could be dyed colors. Basically, I had a big picture idea, but not so much the little details. Anthony filled in the little details with his amazing skill and artistry. He improved my idea, including adding a streak of blonde in the front so there could be color there too. I didn't know what I wanted color wise beyond blue, and his idea was to make my hair transition from darker blue to teal. It's absolutely gorgeous! All of my friends love it, and even my more conventional mom who teases me about my piercings said it was beautiful. He converted my mom y'all! I'm so happy with the hair cut and color. It looks great both up and down. I'm really looking forward to our next appointment, he's going to color my hair like a pride flag! There's no orange at all in the blonde underneath either, so if I decide to go without a color, it'd still look great. I'm really happy I decided to try out this cut, and I'm so glad I picked Anthony to execute it. As a last note, I had never done anything like this at all before, so I had no idea how long it would take. If you're a newbie to getting your hair lightened and colored, bring a book and/or make sure your phone is fully charged before you go, the entire process takes a really long time. My phone gave me a bit of a fright, the battery got low, but fortunately it didn't run out. ANTHONY was unprofessional, fraud, and a bully. I went in for a bang trim with JAY. I have been a regular customer at the salon but this has been the worst service. The service was incompetent. JAY could not understand English, and was not able to cut my bangs as I had desired. They were cut too short and looked uneven. He spent over 30 mins trying to fix the hair but to no avail. On checkout, ANTHONY comes, and asks for $25 for bang trim. I make the payment. But when I say that on website it says $20, he says it is "$20 and up". But I don't find anything like this on the website. And I ask him to show me where on the website it says such. ANTHONY says it's because of my "kind of bangs". I again ask why he charged me $25. I could see his frustration building. ANTHONY shouted at me in front of all the customers, threw a $5 bill at me saying "I got no time for this" and walked off. This is how customers are treated by ANTHONY here if you piss him off. So, at this salon, service is incompetent, they will over charge you sneakily, and if you confront them, you may get the money back but the money may just get thrown back at you. read more
