Went here to get my 3B curly hair blown out for an engagement party. I don't really use heat on my hair because when I do, it's left frizzy and overall damages my hair. I decided to give this hair salon a try. I booked with Tina, and she's literally the best. She gave me the best mini head massage of my LIFE while she washed my hair. She then took her time and very carefully blow dried my hair. She listened to my needs and did an amazing job. I am so glad I found this place, and I plan on getting more blowouts here in the near future! read more

I went to this salon for a full balayage on Monday Sep 28th on 2 pm and brought a specific reference photo of what I wanted. We discussed the photo in detail, including the fact that the color becomes significantly lighter toward the ends and that the blonde has a soft, vanilla tone. I specifically mentioned three separate times during the appointment that I wanted the ends to be blonde. Unfortunately, the final result does not resemble the reference photo or what we discussed. The ends are not blonde at all, they are essentially brown, and the balayage effect I was specifically asking for is not there AT ALL. What is especially frustrating is that this was not a case of an unclear request. I showed a photo, we discussed the color and placement, and I repeatedly emphasized the blonde ends. I genuinely don't understand how the final result ended up so far from what was communicated. I was also going to dinner afterward and showed a photo of how I wanted my hair styled. That request was not followed either. I left feeling extremely disappointed with both the color and the styling. I understand that hair color can vary depending on the starting point and that no two results are identical, but this was not a minor difference from the reference, it was a completely different result from what I specifically requested. For the price of a full balayage which I paid over price, I expected much more attention to the details we discussed. read more

I've been going to J59 (back when it was JulieQ in Mountain View) for over 15 years, so this review is especially disappointing for me to write. This was the first time I decided to get partial highlights. During my consultation, Stephanie recommended a color approach that sounded good, so I moved forward with both a haircut and highlights appointment. , What surprised me was that they did the haircut first and fully blow-dried my hair to check the cut before starting the highlighting process. After the highlights were applied, my grays still weren't covered, so they did an additional touch-up. That meant my hair was blow-dried multiple times in a single appointment, including after bleaching. I left with hair that felt significantly drier than before. I was also unhappy with the initial color result because the highlights looked patchy. To their credit, the salon contacted me and offered to bring me back for a correction, which I appreciated. At the follow-up appointment, Stephanie showed me a chocolate brown highlight color and asked if I liked it. I said yes, and she explained that a toner would be an easy fix. After the toner was applied, however, the highlights were essentially no longer visible. I have naturally dark hair, and now it looks very close to my original color. The end result is that after multiple chemical processes, multiple rounds of heat styling, several hours in the salon, and over $300 spent, I no longer have visible highlights, and my hair feels dry, brittle, and damaged. I appreciate that the salon attempted to correct the issue, but unfortunately, the final result left me disappointed. After more than 15 years as a customer, this experience has made me feel like I need to look elsewhere for future color services. read more

I'm actually so disappointed with my experience here... the first time I came they did a wonderful job with my hair. This time, I asked for a subtle red wine hair color and showed them what I wanted. However, they dyed it black with purple highlights. I didn't like it so they offered to do it again. Another 6 hours go by and this time, it became a bright raspberry red. It made me look like an anime character and I was sad for days. Now my hair is turning blue after one month and it stained all my clothes, my bathtub and even my bed. I just don't recommend coming here anymore. I also don't think you should take customers in if you really don't know what you're doing. edit: Hi Mister Anthony, thanks for replying to me. First time client here and I highly recommend going to Shazleena Not going to lie, I found her on IG after lurking on her page before taking the plunge. Couldn't be happier that I did. Making an appointment was a breeze. As soon as I sat down, she really took the time to listen to my ideas, look at my inspo pictures and give honest and direct feedback about the different styles I was contemplating. I trusted her completely with my lifeless mop of a head, and she came through giving LIFE She walked me through every step to ensure I knew how to style my new hair, and was extremely knowledgeable! My favorite hairstylist Anthony recently moved to this place. My second time coming here - to this location. The salon is small and cute. It's in downtown Mountain View and there's ample street parking. I have never had trouble parking here, but I also don't think I have come at peak hours. If you plan to come here, I might recommend coming a bit early so you have enough time to find parking. About Anthony- he is absolutely amazing. A magician and my best kept secret now revealed . He keeps himself up-to-date with the latest and greatest in hair design/haircut and color - he specializes in both. He is a good listener, easy to talk to, friendly and courteous. I am actually glad Anthony moved here - the other place he was at felt a bit bougie and over the top, but really wasn't all that. Just fluff. Shazleena is a talented hairdresser. I love how she cuts my hair - it's effortlessly stylish and keeps my ends very healthy even after months. I finally worked up the nerve to try out a hair style I've wanted to do for years. I did an initial consultation with Anthony where we discussed what I would like, an undercut that goes all around with the top part kept as long, and the ponytail bleached so it could be dyed colors. Basically, I had a big picture idea, but not so much the little details. Anthony filled in the little details with his amazing skill and artistry. He improved my idea, including adding a streak of blonde in the front so there could be color there too. I didn't know what I wanted color wise beyond blue, and his idea was to make my hair transition from darker blue to teal. It's absolutely gorgeous! All of my friends love it, and even my more conventional mom who teases me about my piercings said it was beautiful. He converted my mom y'all! I'm so happy with the hair cut and color. It looks great both up and down. I'm really looking forward to our next appointment, he's going to color my hair like a pride flag! There's no orange at all in the blonde underneath either, so if I decide to go without a color, it'd still look great. I'm really happy I decided to try out this cut, and I'm so glad I picked Anthony to execute it. As a last note, I had never done anything like this at all before, so I had no idea how long it would take. If you're a newbie to getting your hair lightened and colored, bring a book and/or make sure your phone is fully charged before you go, the entire process takes a really long time. My phone gave me a bit of a fright, the battery got low, but fortunately it didn't run out. Anthony told me that refreshing and changing the color doesn't take as long as the first time though. read more

My daughter had a appointment with Sandy Tang to dye and cut hair. She dyed her hair a different color than my daughter asked for. My daughter has very short hair. We were charged $475 that was very expensive. When we told her we didn't like the color to changed it back. Sandy was going to charge extra for her mistake she did on my daughter hair. DO NOT GO TO Sandy TANG for hair stylist. I reached out to the owner J.Q. to let him know, he texted me telling me rude comments and said we deserve what we got. He will send me and my daughter to the cops if I post about his salon. I have text messages stating that he said this. Do not go to this salon. Bad customer service, very rude, and makes threats to customers. read more

Tina H is fantastic! Thank you so much Tina. I had badly grown out roots. My natural color is med brown & my hair was bleached blonde. She was able to bring my roots to the blonde shade I wanted (very very white) and tone the yellow out of the rest of my hair beautifully. I was so happy with the results. Tina is a talented & knowledgeable colorist & a pleasure to sit with. It was a longer appointment considering that I have thick hair & needed several steps of product used to achieve the desired result. I was offered snacks & refreshments which was a great touch. I was a first-time client and admittedly a little nervous, but Shazleena made me feel so comfortable throughout the process. Beautiful and clean salon located in downtown Mountain View. Everyone in the salon was friendly and greeted each customer that walked in. Shazleena cut my hair! I've been going to her since she worked out of Limon Salon is San Jose. Shazleena understands the assignment! As soon as you sit down in the chair & discuss what kind of look you want she really analyzes your face shape & hair texture. After discussing the look you want with you she takes her time with each strand that she cuts. If something doesn't look right she goes back in. She really studies your face and hair. She also knows her sizzles and razors well. Each time I leave the salon absolutely loving my hair. I currently have no color added, so being able to get an excellent cut really boosts my confidence. I had the most amazing experience getting a haircut from shazleena. I've been looking for a stylist in the area who is an expert in shag haircuts especially with textured wavy hair. ANTHONY was unprofessional, fraud, and a bully. I went in for a bang trim with JAY. I have been a regular customer at the salon but this has been the worst service. The service was incompetent. JAY could not understand English, and was not able to cut my bangs as I had desired. They were cut too short and looked uneven. He spent over 30 mins trying to fix the hair but to no avail. On checkout, ANTHONY comes, and asks for $25 for bang trim. I make the payment. But when I say that on website it says $20, he says it is "$20 and up". But I don't find anything like this on the website. And I ask him to show me where on the website it says such. ANTHONY says it's because of my "kind of bangs". I again ask why he charged me $25. I could see his frustration building. ANTHONY shouted at me in front of all the customers, threw a $5 bill at me saying "I got no time for this" and walked off. This is how customers are treated by ANTHONY here if you piss him off. So, at this salon, service is incompetent, they will over charge you sneakily, and if you confront them, you may get the money back but the money may just get thrown back at you. read more

This was my first time working with JayT. He took my lifeless dry brassy balayaged hair with highlights that were too chunky and transformed them into a rich blended chocolatey shiny warm layered shag. He is kind, meticulous, and answered all of my questions to make sure we were on the same page. I visited this salon on my partner's recommendation for men's haircuts. She had an amazing experience so I booked an appointment and I'm thrilled with the results! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the clean, modern decor and the friendly staff. My stylist, Shazleena was incredibly professional and attentive. She took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and offered helpful suggestions for my hair type, styling tips etc. We went with an entirely new style that suits me perfectly and it has brought forth a ton of compliments. I explicitly requested to take off 4 inches, but they chopped off 7 inches instead. For reference, my hair was down to my waist almost and straight across so I was looking forward to getting some nice layering and a decent trim. (I attached my reference photo vs what I actually got). My hair that I took so long to grow out is now super short. To make matters worse, the whole styling process felt very aggressive and frustrating. I honestly felt like I was being thrown around in the chair and manhandled. They repeatedly poked me in the face with their fingers when moving around my hair and the comb kept getting very close to my eyes... When I finally saw the results, the layering was so uneven it was shocking. I wish I had a better picture, but when I got home I was so saddened by the haircut that I cried out of despair and started aggressively cutting it myself just trying to fix it. I also still can't get over that I basically have less than half of the hair I started with left. Absolutely do not recommend, terrible experience.

Mindy is amazing!! She is very attentive and definitely helps me when I'm not sure just what will look great for my hair. She is efficient with her time and the style she gives my hair by the end of the cut looks awesome! She is very thorough and makes sure it is greta before you leave. Mindy also did my hair for my wedding, and let me just tell you, she nailed it. It was absolutely 100% what I wanted. We had a first trial and she had done everything I asked, but it just didn't feel right, so we did a 2nd one, and she really did her research and helped me figure out the right look. After the 2nd trial, I knew it was going to be awesome, it looked great. On the day of the wedding, she did my six bridesmaids here throughout the day, and they all looked stunning and stylish. Some of them had thick, long hair and although it was a lot of work for Mindy, she did it and they looked gorgeous. She did my hair perfectly, and added flowers and made sure she stayed to help put the veil in my hair. I'm glad that I reminded myself to leave this review today. I've been going to Jay for haircuts and most of my interest about hair products for over 2 years, but this is the 1st time I came back after the pandemic shutdown. My 1st impression was that the salon was clean, and everyone wore mask. They also provided masks and made sure that they sanitized their own station after every single customer. After discussing how I like to style my hair, Jay gave me the perfect haircut. I always needed someone to help guide me towards the right cut, and he did an amazing job. I was so incredibly impressed by Jay's deep concern that I be happy with the result. He has the kindest spirit and is an excellent conversationalist, which made my one-hour fly by way too quickly. I was a regular customer at Julie Q's for almost a year though they had messed up my hair once before (cut it too short), however you tend to forgive one mistake when you are a regular! However, last time I went there for hair relaxing. My hair is pretty straight, it's just that it gets frizzy sometimes and I told them that. They completely ruined it. I went to a good salon after that and they told me that my hair is damaged. And what did Julie do when I told her that? Nothing. The least she could have done was refund my money. But she did NOTHING. Standing there like she doesn't understand anything. So in my opinion, there is no consistency here. Go to Julie Q's if you want to check your luck before heading out to Vegas! I really like to go to JulieQ's salon, because Mindy works there. Before she worked in another salon, but I moved with her, because she is simply great. I am a foreigner with language difficulties and also my previous hairdresser works in very nice and high level french salon, but Mindy she is very kind and patient to listen to my requests and she is able to do the same great job as I had previously in Europe. I am very satisfied. I really appreciate how she takes care of me, every time she has some new "thing" we can do with my hair. :) I really like, when my hairdresser remembers me and tries to understand my personality and express it into my haircut and has no problem to learn something new. Great! I've had my nails done here and always been happy so I decided to have the works and get my hair shampooed and tinted and finally styled. I was a little apprehensive cause you basically have to live with it for months if you don't like the way it come out. The key was that they took the time to really get to know what I wanted and to explain the different styles and options. It's nice when your stylist or anyone for that matter listens to you. Jay is definitely a hair magician. I had found him through a recommendation from my friend. He is very meticulous with his hair cut which I appreciate. He will listen to exactly what hairstyle you are aiming for and replicate it to his best effort. I just came here couple days ago and Jay had given me the perfect job for my 1st balayage session. Went back for my second haircut and had another incredible experience. Gina remembered me and was excited about me wanting to change my look. She was supportive of me cutting my long curly hair into a bob with bangs. She spent a good amount of time talking about what I wanted then washed and conditioned my hair with an incredible scalp massage. She knows how to blow dry my curly mixed hair straight so that I walk out of the salon looking fabulous. There was a really bad traffic jam so I was real late, turns out Julie and Jeannie were also stuck in traffic along with me. Jeannie seemed to know what I wanted before I even said anything. The massage was probably the best part, got rid of my headache. Jeannie listened to me and made suggestions on the style of the cut. Like pretty much everyone else here, I highly recommend Julie Q Hair & Nails for their reasonable prices and their quality service. I had my first hair cut there last week from Jeannie. For $25, I received a nice, clean trim on my long hair. Thank you, Jeannie, for cutting it just the way I wanted it, and not trying to force some fancy styling on me or secretly lopping off extra inches. (I hate that!) When my regular haircut person was on vacation I turned to yelp and found JulieQs. I made a same day appointment with Loan, and it turned out to be an excellent decision on my part. All though she did push back our appt 20 minutes, I forgave this because I had called less than 2 hours before. Loan knows how to cut hair. She took her time and I LOVED the way it looked. I got introduced to Redken because of them and I will always be grateful for it as I've followed up with their products even at home. Salon ambience: Spacious, clean and well kept salons. Salon space is well planned and has an easy flow to any hair service. Their basins are clean and always superbly maintained in operation. Never once have I heard that something was not working or out of service. They truly embody quality of service. Restrooms are spotless and well maintained as well. Parking: No issues at all. Ample spots always. Though they welcome walk-ins, they operate heavily on appointment basis and so if you have an appointment it is all very easy breezy and seamless! When I first met him, I was extremely particular and nervous about my hair because I had already gone through so many bad haircut experiences in the Bay. Jimmy never made me feel difficult or rushed. He took the time to explain exactly what he would do, walk me through the shape and length, and answer every question I had. I'm the kind of person who cared about details down to the millimeter. Jimmy always had the patience to work through everything with me despite all the many questions I had each visit. Over the years, Jimmy became much more than just my hairstylist. Every time I sat in his chair, he listened to all my life stories, heard me out, and made me feel genuinely cared for. He took care of my hair, my concerns, and often accommodated me whenever he could. Getting a haircut became something I actually looked forward to every month or so because I always looked forward to seeing him. He has supported me through many different chapters of life and hairstyles. When I decided to grow my hair into a man bun, he shaped and prepared it perfectly for that process, so I haven't been seeing Jimmy for a while. I wanted to leave this review because I'm incredibly grateful for all the years of patience, support, and exceptional work he has given me. What stands out most about Jimmy is that he treats hairstyling as a true profession. He is always learning new techniques, improving his craft, and staying current, while still delivering thoughtful, responsive, and personal service. He understands how to create a cut that complements your face, fits who you are, and gives you confidence for whatever chapter of life you are entering. That is who Jimmy is.
