My experience with Annette and the Morgan James salon was outstanding. I sought Annette's expertise because of a habit I developed where I essentially was pulling at the hairs by my neck on my left side, leaving a patch of coarse hair that was very odd looking and overall I was very self conscious of it. It was a corrective measure more than cosmetic When I went for my consultation, Annette created an extremely safe space and didn't pass any judgment on my condition. We created a plan and Annette executed flawlessly. Extensions take awhile to "install"... Annette made my two hours in the chair so enjoyable... I didn't want to leave! She is so thorough and explained every step of the process, how to care for the extensions and what I could expect in the coming months. When Annette was finished, I immediately felt 10000x times for confident. I have literally stopped pulling my hair because I don't want to ruin Annette's work. To the untrained eye and from a distance you can't even tell that I have extensions. I will be seeking Annette's expertise for future extensions and also regular hair cuts/maintenance. Writing this review due to the unprofessionalism of Keryn at this salon. I messaged Keryn through instagram on 1/17 asking about her tinsel services and she was very helpful and communicative at first and ended up booking an appointment for 2/1. She then messaged me the day of literally 2 HOURS before my appointment that she had to reschedule me without reason, but I messaged her back letting her know my availability. 5 hours later, she posted a video of her working on another client which I find super unprofessional. I understand that there are circumstances that would lead to a cancellation, but for a stylist to cancel last minute on someone with an appointment 2 weeks prior just to work on someone else is ridiculous. It's the carelessness to not even reply to the person you cancelled on but having the audacity to post herself working on someone else. read more

I came to Morgan James Salon for a full highlight service with Morgan. I was unhappy at the end of my appointment, because I was hoping to get brighter results. I communicated this to Morgan at length and felt very dismissed as a client throughout the process. She has not apologized, she has given no effort to reconcile the situation or has given suggestions as to how we can correct the situation, she has taken no accountability on her part and was just plain rude. Instead she put the blame on me saying how I did not communicate to her what my goal was on our non existent consultation, and that I have actually chosen the wrong service for the brightest blond result, even though it is clearly stated on their website as "the best option for guests who want the maximum amount of brightness". She went on to say that with the amount of brown root growth I had come into the salon with and the time frame she was working with, the amount of blonde I got is the most amount of blonde possible to achieve and to be blonder requires another session. As reasonable as it sounds, it was not communicated to me because we never had a consultation. Morgan simply confirmed that we are doing a full head of highlights and I asked that she makes them close to the root. That's it. Had she asked to see a photo or told me that we will not achieve bright results in that amount of time, I would have made different choices. When she wished me the best of luck and nothing further, I went from mad to furious, and yet I still insisted that we somehow come to a compromise. She offered me to come in for 10 foils around the face, which to me was a waste of time, so I declined and asked instead to come in for the same service with a different stylist (Annette) with a discount, but she replied that Annette has nothing to do with this situation and the salon is all independent stylists who run their own individual businesses inside of the salon, so that is not an option. At last, I proceeded to contact Annette explaining the situation as a last resort over a week ago, but she has not even bothered to reply. Overall, I'm glad this happened and I've seen the true colors of the individuals working at the salon. It is unfortunate, but I feel that I gained more then what I've lost. I wrote this review as a way to inform others from experiencing the same situation. (I have spent the past year searching and consulting with ALL of the top stylists within, like, a 3 hour radius :')). You can't get better than her. I wanted layers and prefer foread bang coverage. However, she advised otherwise due to the thinning. I wear a headband with buttons that covers my head so my mask straps can NOT be on my ears while at work from 7:30-3pm M-F. I can't really wear my hair up with all that in without looking bald. Explaining all that to Morgan and showing her some sample pictures of short, layered, wash and go messy hair she advices this fantastic cut instead. I LOVE IT and everyone said it's a great look for me. The price maybe a little more then some but to me it's worth it. I had an extremely disappointing and emotionally upsetting experience with [Annette Murrie]. After three weeks of communication with the owner and stylist, I was left feeling unsupported, unheard, and ultimately dismissed. I initially reached out with excitement, hoping to work with a salon that could understand my needs, provide a professional personalized service and help me feel confident for an important upcoming trip. I shared my schedule well in advance, including my departure for vacation, and invested time and energy into discussing the details. We secured a set 3 appointments for various services to achieve my final goal. At the consultation, we both shared our goals and adjusted them accordingly based on the feedback I received from the stylist. Annette's overly communicating style was a bit overwhelming and felt that she was trying to protect herself and justify the high price that she charges. Rather easing my anxiety, the stylist presented a cookie-cutter approach with little flexibility or willingness to customize and explore something more unique, playing rather safe. At my next appointment (a week later), we had agreed to do a money-piece highlight around my face. At the end of the session, the hair didn't lift as expected (again, saying because I have old dye in my hair that refuse to lift). It turned orangey instead of light brown/blonde shade. I wasn't very happy but then we discussed that may be another session would help achieve my goal. I trusted the process as she supposedly is the expert. When I asked if she would consider giving a discount since I will have to pay for 2 sessions, she completely refused without any compassion. What made this experience even more upsetting was how it ended. My next appointment was a week later scheduled to install the hair weft which she ordered and I had to pay in advance. When she got the weft, she shared a video with me and I asked her if we could customize the highlights of the weft to match my expectations so that it blends a bit more with my hair. Her response was "I don't get into customizing." Then a while later, she wrote me this long text message (not even bothered to call) and I was informed that she didn't think we were the "right match" to work together. After weeks of communication and my emotional investment, her to inform me at the last minute that we weren't the "right match" to work together?!?! Are you serious? This decision blindsided me and left me scrambling to find another salon right before my trip (which I still haven't been able to secure). The lack of respect for my time and feelings was deeply hurtful, and the way this was handled caused unnecessary stress during an already busy time in my life. While I understand that not every client and stylist relationship is a fit, but this experience went beyond communication; it left me feeling undervalued and emotionally drained. A salon experience should make a client feel supported and empowered, not the opposite. Based on how poorly this situation was handled, I cannot recommend Morgan James Salon and more specifically Annette to anyone. I hope they take this feedback seriously and work on improving their consultation process, communication, and commitment to providing a more respectful and client-centered experience in the future. read more

Annette is truly the best hairdresser I have ever been to. I have been getting highlights/balayages for many years now, but I was taken aback by the final result achieved at Morgan James! I have always longed for a natural, sun-kissed color, but many hairdressers before always rushed and bleached my hair so light that it looked downright unnatural with my dark eyebrows and naturally light-brown hair. Annette took her time (the whole process took about 4 hours), added some babylights around my face, and the end result was stunning. The roots were untouched enough so that it looks like a legitimate hair color for me, and since I don't get my hair done that often she assured me that the grow out would still look nice. During the whole coloring procedure, I also told her about my struggles of having oily hair and how I can achieve more volume. She took the time to order hair products that are personally suited to my hair needs, and the products were not outrageous in price either. She is very thoughtful and listens to your needs. She does not shove products down your throat or recommends products for money-grabbing purposes--Annette is very non-BS and knows her stuff about hair. Since Annette has an artistic way of coloring hair and she takes a lot of time to achieve a seamless and beautiful result, this is not a cheap procedure. However, I still think it is a good investment especially if you do not like to get your hair done too often since the grow-out still looks beautiful and natural. Your response to my review was exactly what I wrote in my review - that you guys fit me in and I appreciated that, but the unprofessionalism is what caused me to give you a poor review. Let me be very clear about the business owners response: I did not write this review because you only "offered me machine tied weft extensions and I thought that was unacceptable". Not once in any of my correspondence to Morgan or in my review did I say that so your response is untrue. I wrote the review for one reason and it's because of how Morgan responded unprofessionally to me. You want a break down of everything that happened so here it is: - I contacted Annette on Instagram because I had an urgent need for extensions. Annette was nice, but was honest that she couldn't get me the hair in time and I appreciated her honesty. I asked about the other stylists and she says her salon is an independent artist salon so she wouldn't know what hair they have or their schedule. (Good to know - I didn't know that it was independent.) - I contacted Morgan and she was nice and responsive too and was willing to help me. She got me in for a 10 min consultation the next day, told me she'd use the machine tied weft extensions and I told her I'd Google it went I got home to learn more. She said no mention of why we were doing this style over another nor did she tell me if this was good or bad when I mentioned concerns about my fine hair. We agreed she wouldn't order anything until she got back to me to see if there's availability and the cost. - I got home and Googled "machine tied weft extensions" to see if they were safe on fine hair and not one single article said they were safe and in fact, many said they were not good for fine hair. I spent hrs reading through articles and got nothing. - I texted Morgan my concern and asked her about other styles she offers and Morgan responded unprofessionally with a novel of a text saying she's uncomfortable because I don't trust her as a professional and a long rant that sent red flags flying, which prompted me to read the negative reviews and found others had similar experience as me: when you raise something that they don't like, their friendly act goes out the window and they turn into someone else and become unprofessional and start to blame their clients. [I'm glad I did my research and brought it up because I then read Liliana's review 2 months before mine and she got the heavy machine tied weft extensions and said it caused damage to her hair and that Annette blamed it on her hair.] After that, I kindly told her to cancel my upcoming appointment and blocked her because I didn't want to get another novel of a text from her. - I then wrote my original Yelp review, which is 100% a true, honest and accurate account of my experience. Annette responded blaming me, as she has with other clients who have left her poor reviews. My experience here with Annette and Morgan turned out disappointing, to say the least. The continuous lack of self-awareness and ownership is baffling. This review is loooooong overdue. I've been coming to this salon ever since I moved to the area about 2 years ago. They specialize in extensions and blondes, but my god they've worked their magic on my long, brunette, Latina locks. I have really red/brassy undertones but they've made ashy happen for me when I've requested it :) Over the years I've noticed there has always been a commitment to improve the quality of styling, the salon, tools, services, interior design, and the customer service. I enjoy coming back every few weeks to see what's new, what deal they are offering, and what cool new trends they are trailblazing. My favorite thing has always been the shampoo chairs. By far the most comfortable shampoo experience I've ever had!!! And they've even added TVs to the room as well as add-on treatments like scalp massage - it's so relaxing. At previous salons I've had neck kinks after being shampooed but the quality stations here prevent that for me. The scalp massage is sooooo good it gives me goosebumps and instantly relaxes me. So much better than Drybar. My main stylist has always been Annette. I always look forward to our conversations about family, culture, traditions and our doggies. I've also had some styling and tanning services done by Morgan who is also very talented. Their entire team is kind and very supportive of each other which is a nice dynamic to be around...great energy. 100% of the time, I leave looking fabulous. Once, I had the stylist point out a spot to me that she wasn't confident in because it didn't blend entirely (but I could hardly tell). I came to this salon in hopes if obtaining hair extensions, I was told I needed (color correction) before we could order the correct color of hair... $500 dollars later I came out with the color in the photo... the extensions were too heavy and too tight which caused my hair to break off. Hair extension damage happens when the extensions are attached too tightly or incorrectly . This combination of weight and strain on the hair follicles can cause the hair to fall out. I only had the extensions in for a total of 8 weeks and had so much pain and was constantly told by Annette that it was my hair and scalp that were the problem. I have spoken to numerous stylists and they have all said the extensions were way too heavy for my scalp, overall a very tough experience read more

I've seen Madison Kirby two times and both times it was like seeing a friend who was exceptionally talented at hair! She's so friendly, and she's really listening to what her clients want. She's very knowledgeable about different styling methods, and she's very good with my thick, naturally wavy hair, very full head of hair. A lot of my prior hair stylists would complain about "how much" hair I have but Madison's never been intimidated by it! She's very good at what she does and I recommend her to all my friends and family. I also want to plug that the Morgan James Family as a whole is VERY serious about COVID-19 sanitation and ensuring the safety of their guests. I moved back to California three years ago, and have tried 3-4 appointments with four different stylists, and never really clicked with the them or their work on me. I heart Liz! I absolutely love my normal stylist in Castro Valley but let's face facts; I live in Santa Clara and Castro Valley is freakin far... I normally get my roots touched and my hair toned every 6 weeks, with the holidays I've had to cancel numerous appointments with my girl in CV. Enter Sanctuary Salon. I am PICKY and TRUST NO ONE with my hair!!! I went to 4 different consults before deciding to have Liz work on my hair. We did a full highlight, added some low lights, root smudge and I went back 2 days later for a hair cut. My hair looks great, I've received multiple compliments and Liz was super sweet. She was fairly quick with the foils and was patient with my resistant hair. I know my hair will only lift to a certain point and can take a ton of abuse. I told her this in advance, rather than pushing my hair and trying to blast it all, she went with a 30 volume on the root and 5 on the ends...this might be foreign to some of you but basically it means she used a gentle bleach on the bottom to keep the integrity of my hair. This to me shows pride and thoughtful consideration in her work. I don't know about the negative comments people have made about Annette, she was really nice to me over email and in the salon. A review you will want to read. I have been getting hair extensions since 2018. I started seeing Annette in 2022. The first appointment I had she forgot to order my hair.. but I didn't make it a big deal. I have maybe had a row unravel 1-2 times in all the years I have had these. Unfortunately I had rows unravel multiple times since seeing Annette but honestly I wasn't upset.. these things happen and I would just reach out to her to have it fixed. My last appointment was one of her EZ move ups and a week later my bottom row unraveled. I reached out to her to see about getting in to fix it and she CANCELLED ME AS A CLIENT... confusing right? I think so too. I am sharing the text message exchange as I think it's important for anyone that is considering going to her to see. These extensions aren't cheap and getting good quality work, and someone that provides a strong level of service is very important. Not only has she now left me with a hanging row and no one to fix it, but instead of standing by her work she cancelled me as a client. You may want to consider going elsewhere... read more
