It's a cute salon. And the owner is very nice. Front desk staffer was also sweet. But reflecting back on how my appointment went, it wasn't what I had hoped. The girl who did my color just didn't do what I wanted. And I could hear her dismay when she pulled out my foils in the sink. I was left uncomfortably in the sink for about 30 minutes while she tried to discreetly consult with the owner about how to remedy the situation. The issue was I wanted to be blonde! I was there for a color correction. But instead of tipping out my ends, she just did regular highlights, leaving out the ends instead of foiling the whole length of the strands. The stylist seemed rushed because she hadn't allowed herself sufficient time for my appointment so at the end, my hair cut was rushed and not what I wanted. I did come in for a 10- minute appointment prior to my actual appointment for the stylist to meet me and find out what I wanted to do and honestly I should've known then it wasn't going to go well...she basically said there wouldn't be enough time for her to make me blonde in one appointment but that she would try? She would do her best...yikes...I made the appointment anyway hoping...but her lack of confidence in "having time" doing something that's pretty routine in most salons, should have been a red flag. Fast forward...I went to a different salon in Los Altos a couple months later and they did EXACTLY what I wanted. In a single appointment. No qualms. No issues. Did it take 6 hours? Yes. But the stylist had allotted the time, knowing it would be a long appointment. The problem at Therapy was the stylist essentially left me still looking brunette but with highlights. And that wasn't what I wanted. I still paid and gave a 15-20% tip and smiled and thanked them. Because I didn't look awful. I just didn't get the service I paid for. I tried to like my hair. But in the end I was disappointed. I thought I was going to have a flawless experience because it is an Aveda concept salon. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. read more

It's the worst hair salon I've ever gone to. I love Aveda and I've always thought that with the name comes a certain quality. The first colorist I saw did what I thought was right ( I brought my own color formula to the salon) but for reasons known only to her, she removed the color far to early which caused my hair to look flat. I decided to give the salon another chance, I even asked about the stylist I initially had, but she had been fired! I inquired about anyone else doing it and I ended up with a charming young girl who apparently isn't experienced enough to do highlights so I had my base done and left. The woman who owns the salon is tired, burned out and rude. They actually only have one stylist, besides the owner and the girl who is not yet qualified to do highlights. What was extraordinary about the experience was the fact that I was blamed for the terrible experience because I had to cancel 2 appointments. I tried to explain to the owner that I'm dealing with serious illness but she had no interest. I still don't understand why my missing appointments deserved a really bad hair day! read more

Therapy was very accommodating and receptive to helping me remedy my strange hair dilemma. Long story short, last summer my hair got badly bleached and damaged due to pool chemical imbalance. I have since tried to grow it out and trim the dead ends myself but it was beyond my ability to fix at home. In short, there was a very distinctive line separating several inches of my natural roots and the bright, bleached hair that was making me very self-conscious about my appearance. At Therapy I spoke with multiple stylists as well as the owner to discuss my options and what would keep my hair as healthy as possible without breaking the bank. I was offered several possible paths and not pressured at all to purchase any services. The stylist was very communicative, friendly, and helpful which was much appreciated as I was very nervous about frying the rest of my hair off. The owner was also very personable and checked in to be sure I was feeling confident and comfortable. We settled on subtle highlights to blend out the line as well as a quick layered trim to clip off more damage and I couldn't be happier with the results. I finally feel like I look like ME again and I will definitely be back. This is the first salon experience in 10 years in the Bay Area that I really enjoyed through-and-through. read more

Nevertheless, I never said I'd bankrupt the business. That is ridiculous. You weren't listening. I also didn't say I wouldn't pay. I have health issues that make it hard for me to stand, as you could tell bc I was using a cane. You treated me like dirt from Word one. I didn't take this up with the stylist, I asked to speak to the owner. Yet when I accidentally called today, your manager said there was a note saying I was" fired" from the salon, her word. I didn't remember a salon on 2nd Street ( you moved from Rancho). So I asked her what the note said and she said it says that I was difficult with the stylist about my hair, which I wasn't. You should have tried to listen to my objection, which was that I now had to come back for a cut. It seemed like you would be benefitting from the extra money. I also wish the receptionist would have given me a time in the future that included a cut and color. read more

I had some customer service issues toward the end and think it might have been internal drama between staff members that caused it. My entire experience at Therapy was wonderful. I got my hair highlighted and lowlighted with Jessica, and am so happy! After several disappointing experiences at other salons, I finally feel beautiful again (see photo). Basically, my hair was a dried-out, bleached mess, with roots showing and color that was not flattering. Y'all know that feeling? The receptionist found a stylist within my price range (Note: It's Silicon Valley, so everything is expensive. Therapy's rates are in the middle of the price range from what I've read online & paid elsewhere). I filled out a new client info sheet online. Communication was clear, both on the phone and via text. Therapy was able to find me a same-day appointment FOR COLOR. I will come back for a cut! Jessica and Sara worked with me to identify what color(s) and effects would look good with my skin. They mixed some gorgeous colors! Jessica meticulously applied the high- and low-lights, and Sara checked her work. I've never seen teamwork like this at a salon before. I learned that Therapy operates as a whole company where employees work together, not like a typical rent-a-chair place. The salon itself is clean and comfortable. They use Aveda products. The hair-washing station chairs fully extend so I could thoroughly relax...and that scalp massage....ahhh. Did I mention that since it's an Aveda salon, you can enjoy a cup of delicious herbal tea? Finding a beauty salon isn't easy. As a newcomer to the Peninsula, I felt overwhelmed by the number of salons, reviews, and prices. Therapy is the Real Deal. zero communication from the time i booked an appt for my mom weeeeeks ago to the day of appt. they left her a voicemail 2 days prior to appt saying hey your stylist has covid so INSTEAD OF ANY OF THEIR STYLISTS TAKING THE APPT OVER, she offered if mom wanted to just come in for a wash & blowdry. WHAT?!? i called them 3x since 9a (when it shows they open) & no reply, no one called back. i just left a voicemail canceling the appt since we don't feel comfortable going to a salon where they have active covid exposure. I am so disappointed in the service and never in life have we had service like this. IN LOS ALTOS. and esp an AVEDA SALON. i was planning a full spa day for my mom being in town & now i have to go explain all this to her. so embarrassing. called Juut & got a master stylist schedule her in right away. I had a hard time finding a new hair stylist after moving to the Bay Area. I'm so glad I finally found Erin. She is great with color and has given me the very natural look I wanted. She has also done some color correction on my previous balayage that went wrong with another stylist. She always listens to exactly what I want, looks at the pictures I bring in, and is able to interpret the look I'm going for. The salon is in a great location and is very clean. This review is long overdue, as I first met Sarah a handful of years ago. My daughter and I had been growing our hair to donate, and I was trying to find a salon affiliated with Wigs for Kids. My daughter had never been to a salon before and was a bit nervous, but Sarah was sooo sweet and kind to her, that my daughter's anxiety melted away quickly. She really enjoyed her visit and had rave reviews when we got home - - so positive, that my son said he wanted to grow his hair out to donate too - which I think was mainly because he wanted to meet Sarah and visit her salon! Three or so years later, my daughter and I had enough length to donate again, and my son as well. He endured three years of people mistaking him as a girl, and he surprisingly didn't seem to care because he knew he was helping another child who couldn't grow their own hair - - plus, he was going to get to meet Sarah finally! I contacted Sarah, who already had an overflowing plate making sure she kept her salon running as safely as possible during the pandemic, and yet she wanted to squeeze us in. She also took it upon herself to be very aware and considerate of when she had my kids visit since they were not eligible to be vaccinated at the time. Therapy Salon is immaculate - extremely clean, an open space with high ceilings, and purifiers running. I was completely at ease having my kids there. I know Sarah works with many immunocompromised clients, including children with cancer, and her attention to keeping them (and everyone else too) in a safe environment is amazing. Not everyone may understand the health & safety protocols and feel they're an inconvenience, but I would hope any reasonable person could understand why Sarah takes the precautions so seriously. She is so considerate of others and has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. Both of my kids really enjoy seeing Sarah, and we also leave with fantastic haircuts and styles! My son took an older photo of himself with a hairstyle he liked, and Sarah really assessed it and was careful to give him a cut he liked, checking in with him frequently during the process. I could tell that she takes such care in each cut she makes, and I trust her completely. She also listens so well to any concerns - she was very helpful in giving me tips on hair care, and also sent me home with Aveda samples to try for a specific issue. Admittedly, the first time we visited years ago, I was expecting a pretentious environment given the location in Los Altos, but Sarah is one of the most welcoming, warm, kind and generous souls I know. She has a chalkboard near the entrance of the salon with such wonderful messages, which I now know truly come from her heart, no virtue-signaling here. Sarah is an absolute gem, and we cannot say enough wonderful things about her or Therapy Salon. read more

I have been here only once but it was better than what I expected. I hate going to salons - one because I am worried they may not cut my hair right and two, I hate doing the small talk that most hair dressers tend to do. I found this place through wigs for kids, since I decided to donate my hair and this was the nearest salon that was affiliated with them. Booking an appointment was a pain. I first tried booking online but it required me to pay upfront and did not apply my hair donation discount, so I decided to call and set up the appointment. The person who answered the phone was kind but didn't really help much. She didn't know what times were available and didn't know the prices either, so she took my number and had the owner call me back. I was finally able to book an appointment later that night when the owner called. To be honest, I was not impressed so far and was dreading going there. But on the day of the appointment my impression changed. Every one was very kind and not snobbish. They did a good job of cutting my hair for the donation and styled it well. They did not hurry through the whole thing and took the time to make sure I liked my new look. No small talk and super friendly. The place is very clean, I would definitely come back here again and recommend it to others. read more

I got highlights at this salon and couldn't be happier with the results. My hair was tricky because my I'm transitioning to gray. My roots were salt and pepper (gray and dark brown) with about 2 inches of growth, whereas the rest of my hair was dyed dark brown. I want to transition eventually to ash blond highlights. It's really hard to remove/lift dark brown dye from hair and get even results between my virgin hair and dyed hair. But the colorist managed to get an even result and my hair looks wonderful. I note the highlights aren't ash blonde yet, as it will take time and multiple treatments to lift the dark brown dye, but this first step looks great. I will definitely be continuing to color my hair here. read more

Not worth the money i paid. There are a lot of other good Aveda salons nearby. Juut in palo alto, aveda atelier san jose, or nirvana in los gatos. I was hoping 2018 brought love and my wish has been already fulfilled! As much as I loved my stylist and salon in SF, the trip up there made it less likely I took care of my hair. Frumpiness doesn't suit me well, so I knew I had to find a salon close to home. Sarah, the owner greeted me at check in and showed me around the beautiful airy space she designed herself. Rachel cut my hair and she did an INCREDIBLE job. I love my curtain bangs. She teaches at the Aveda academy in SF which really made me respect her (being in education myself). Erin at the front desk was great. The cuts are very reasonably priced. They include a scalp massage (ahhhhhh!) and their shampoo chairs are actually loungers. This is a BIG bonus as my neck doesn't love most salon shampoo stations. Olaplex 1 and 2 are $85 by themselves and include a blow dry. With a treatment it's only $40. I think I'll try that next time I'm here. The Olapex 3 I use at home is life changing. read more

I wish I could give ten stars! I have had so many great experiences here over the last 3 years! I discovered Aveda salons when I was pregnant with my first child and used to go to Aveda Santana Row because the hair dye is like 96% natural or something, but I could never get quick appt times. So I was looking up other Aveda's and decided to try this because of the great reviews and proximity. It's an honor that the owner herself, Sarah, is a stylist for over 20 years and is willing and open to work on new clients all the time. She is so sweet and genuine and has the most incredible heart. Sarah does so much for charity and touches each person she interacts with. She feels empathy for cancer patients especially kids, and free of charge does their hair cuts and arranges for wigs for them so they can feel good about themselves. She also does this for adults as well as creates a special evening to donate all hair services done to breast cancer awareness. She cares so deeply about her clients. She never wants to compromise on anyone but at the same time knows the value of her client's time and doesn't want to keep the next one waiting. Even beyond Sarah is her amazing team of stylists. I had my hair colored from Anthony today and I can't stop looking at it, he did such a great job and gave me that change I was looking for Fall. He is very patient, pleasant, and detailed in his work of highlights and styling hair. He's a natural and comes from a family of hair stylists so hair is definitely in his blood! Rachelle is also awesome and love when she has done highlights and root touch ups on me. She still teaches at a hair school and has prob over 25 years experience so very up-to-date. Everyone is extremely pleasant and experienced. It's a pleasure to find a salon that knows you by name and you're not the run of the mill customer. Sarah makes sure prices are affordable for her clients. They always offer refreshments and good wi-fi making it a perfect working from home day or relaxing pampering day. Unfortunately, on my first visit as a walk-in, there was a missed opportunity to showcase their options. Instead, one of the staff rudely brushed me off when I inquired about a possible wash and dry. By contrast, a salon a few doors down was more than helpful. I was interested in both a hairstyle, and supporting the cancer support faerie garden items in the window. I cannot say enough about the talent and heart that Sarah and her team have that make this salon amazing. Sarah took me on as a client about two years ago. Like most people, I showed Sarah a photo off of Pinterest of a color that I wanted. The color was drastically different from the color I had at that time. (I went from dark brown to icy blonde). Sarah set out a realistic plan to get my hair that color and took exhaustive effort to color my hair without damaging it. I left my appointments in awhh that my hair was not split, burnt, or frizzy from damage. My hair remained healthy and beautiful throughout the entire process. Plus, the technique that Sarah used, made my color blend/melt like butter when it grew out which helped reduce my need for regular colorings. Every time I came into the Salon, Sarah and her staff demonstrated the utmost professionalism, patience, and were always up on the latest trends. Sarah gives so much back to her community through her volunteerism and fundraising for Kid Rocks (Children Cancer). I really liked the cleanliness of the salon and the people were very friendly. I had the hair and scalp treatment. But it was just a hair wash and a spray in my hair. I could have washed and sprayed it myself - I expected more in a salon. I had better hair and scalp treatments in other places before. More importantly, I didn't like being sent home with dripping wet hair. In my previous salon, even without blow-drying option, they used to roughly blow dry my hair and made my hair look silky and presentable before I left the salon. read more

I have been going to Lily for a while now. I am constantly changing my hair color and she takes me from deep reds, brown, black, to blonde/Ombre. I have really damaged hair due to all the coloring I do to my hair and that is the number one reason I go to Lily. She cares a lot about your hair and will not do anything that will damage your hair.
