I have been seeing Natalie for about a year now .i followed her from faux salon in Campbell . I have known her since she was an assistant at faux and I was in high school and that was like 19 years ago ! Long story short she does fantastic hair and is always fun to chat with ! 5 stars for cut and style. 4 stars service. 3 stars price. Emailed to setup appointment as they are only open while I'm at work. Was able to easily get a Tuesday afternoon appointment (had off that day) with a week advance notice. Parked about 2 blocks down for free, parking was a little tight with lunch time crowd but not terrible. My appointment was with Natalie and she was extremely nice and accommodating. I have sensitive skin so she used minimal r+co styling products after the haircut. The cut was one of the best I've ever had, which is hard as a girl with short pixie cut. She styled it just like the picture, which I've never been able to replicate (I need to purchase the correct styling products). I deducted a star based on being slightly uncomfortable during the cut because I was faced away from the mirror and she didn't take much time to explain how she was cutting and styling my hair. Waiting until it was complete to turn me around. Granted it was awesome, but I like seeing what the stylist is done and for them to explain the process at least before starting to cut. Also, the price is pretty high. Prices are usually higher for women's hair, but as a woman with short hair I usually get priced for a men's cut or just slightly above. Not here though and it was a complete blow to the wallet. Main reason I probably won't come back unless I'm in need for a really good cut and can't find it elsewhere for cheaper. I do wish the hours were later and/or they opened on Mondays. I work in public service so literally can't make an appointment because of my work schedule unless I take a day off. read more

This review is for Siobhan. I have a very hard time finding the right hair stylist for me. I may be extremely picky, or just have incredibly bad luck. However, I have seen Siobhan a few times now, and can honestly say I have always been happy with my hair after seeing her. She gives great suggestions, works with your hair instead of against it, and most importantly, listens. I have always felt welcomed in this salon, and that too, is important (some places are very stuffy, some places they won't talk to you while doing your hair, this is the perfect balance). read more

Thank goodness I went to see Natalie! My hair was way overdue for a cut. She gave me some great long layers and face framing bangs that will let me grow out my hair for the summer nicely. I just love the way she cuts hair - precise and with such care! I really loved the tips she gave me on how to style my hair to give my layers some texture without spending a ton of time styling everyday. I used to go to the W at Santana Row but much prefer O+R. The salon is super cute and intimate with fun, retro decor. With it being in downtown Castro, it's easy to combine lunch and an appt, with plenty of parking in the area. I started going to Natalie when she worked at Faux Salon in Campbell when I was a wee youngling of 13 and I'll be 25 next month. I had bounced around from stylist to stylist, just taking whoever was available until I met Natalie. It felt like she was the first person to understand my unruly hair & then she proceeded to tame it like the hair goddess she is. What you need to know is that Natalie will always take the time to talk to you and find out what your ideal cut and color is and then knock it out of the park. Her cuts will ALWAYS grow out beautifully. She WON'T mess up your hair, ever. I've gone from black to blonde, I've added mermaid red extensions to my lower back and shaved off most of my hair. Natalie has dyed my hair every color under the sun and then some. There is a reason she is the only person I've trusted with my hair in almost 12 years!!! And there is a reason I didn't hesitate to follow her to Mountain View or drive up to the Bay for hair appointments when I lived in LA. TLDR: From meek trims to major changes, Nat is your girl. After trying two other salons in Mountain View, I've found my ideal stylist and salon with Natalie at Orbit & Rust. It was easy to make (and change) an appointment even though my timeframe was limited. Natalie was super welcoming right from the start, listened attentively as I told her what I wanted, and gave me a great cut that I loved instantly. Sometimes I've walked out of other salons fretting about some aspect of a new 'do, or washed it to find that it doesn't behave the way I wanted it to without professional styling. Absolutely not the case here. I felt great walking out of the salon, and now having washed and "styled" it myself (by which I mean a spritz of sea salt spray, a scrunch, and air-drying--all of which I described to Natalie and asked her to make it work), it's exactly what I had in mind. I'm always really happy with my hair after I see Siobhan. She does amazing pixie cuts that are really feminine and flattering, and that I can style in a variety of ways. If you're considering a cut or color that's a little bit outside of your comfort zone, I highly recommend making an appointment, she will make sure to understand exactly what you're hoping for and adjust it so it works on you. I've never had my hair cut by Natalie, but from what I've seen she's very talented as well. Orbit & Rust is a brand-new styling salon in Mountain View just off Castro Avenue. All three of the stylists (Natalie, Sibohan, and Robert) have years of experience, and came together for this new venture. Natalie is the owner/stylist. She has done an amazing job with this intimate space making it both cozy, and modern. As soon as I came in, I was offered coffee, tea or espresso. When I said "coffee" I was given a cup of really wonderful coffee that they had french pressed just for me! Honestly, little touches like this mean so much. My stylist is Sibohan who has been my stylist for 10 years. While it is further for me to come, she is absolutely worth it! She is an expert in coloring, as well as styling. Went here to try it for the first time because it looked cool, and had good Yelp reviews. I had shoulder length hair going in. I told her to just freshen it up. I guess I could have been more specific, but I left with an asymmetrical haircut, with right side practically buzz cut short.
