I was really looking forward to my haircut with Xuan, but I am so disappointed after my most recent experience with her. Xuan is still friendly and did a decent job, but she was 20 minutes late to my appointment and then overcharged me. I came in expecting to pay $75 for my cut, but Xuan said she had to charge a little more because my hair was long (and to be honest, my hair was not much longer than it was the last time I saw her). I expected "a little more" to be $10 maybe $20--nope, I had to pay an additional $55 for a whopping total of $130 for a shampoo and cut. She really should have told me this before she started and not at the end. In any case, I will not be returning at these prices, nor do I want to support a business that is not transparent about their pricing. Buyer beware. read more

I am very disappointed with my experience here, especially since I was looking forward to it due to the overwhelming positive reviews. I booked a hair tone, and haircut with styling. I had a balayage done in December at another salon that had faded into blonde. I wanted to tone it back to the original warm chestnut color. Xu-An suggested bleaching my money pieces to which I agreed since they would stand out more. However, she begins to continue bleaching the top of my hair, and I stopped her because I was confused. She said she will be doing a partial. As someone inexperienced in hairstyling terms, I assumed this was part of the service and she continued. She was not able to do my haircut or styling, since the "partial" she was doing takes longer. The tone I was given was also not what I had requested (too ashy), so she and Lily rushed to tone it again. They toned my hair red, and left it looking this burgundy color. Besides being unhappy with the color, come to find out she was giving me partial highlights, which are MUCH more expensive. I expected to pay about 75 for the tone and 85 for the haircut. Instead, I was charged 275 for the partial highlights I did not book or agree to. I wish she would've clarified that a partial is partial highlights and that she would've disclosed the price before proceeding with the service. I checked later and their website states partial highlights are 170. I was only given a 20 dollar discount for my troubles. I will not be coming back. I also noticed the same thing happened to another customer who was expecting to be charged 85 for a haircut, and Lily charged her 95, at the end of the service. Other salons will make sure to tell clients beforehand if prices will be higher due to their hair length etc. Be U Salon waits until the end of the service. Beware of these predatory pricing practices. read more

The "couch" for the shampoo was a pleasant surprise. Next, Lily and I discussed length and shaping and she was careful to clarify my wishes, as well as express her own recommendations - both of which I appreciated. Today was my first time going to this salon. I didn't have an appt, and they had other customers there. Xu-An was so great, she greeted me with a friendly smile, and accommodated me, she immediately called in her co-worker so the all the clients could be taken care of. She was very gentle with washing my hair and drying it. I could tell immediately that she knew what she was doing. I have very difficult hair, curly. Most hairdressers see this as an opportunity to be imprecise, thinking "oh well we can just push it in, it'll be fine". What most people don't know is that with curly/difficult hair, you have to actually have to have a very precise cut. Also with difficult hair (frizzy or thin), texturizing, either with the scissors or worse with the razor, makes it look messy and unkempt and difficult to style when you get home. Hairdressers who use these techniques are just showing off or maybe practicing these skills, without considering how these will affect your specific hair. In fact, i have observed that the best hairdressers make the fewest "cuts" because each cut is very intentional and precise. Xu-An clearly understands this. She was talking to me throughout, accurately describing my thin hair (i had recently been on medication that had made my hair fall out and it was growing back in, thinner than usual and frizzy). I was really impressed that she took the time to notice, that she didn't just say/think that I had bad hair. She was able to work positively with the hair that I have, and cut and style my hair for my face. She clearly understands how to cut hair. I have had hairdressers frown at my hair before or make unnecessary and negative comments. I had such a wonderful and positive experience with Xu-An. My hair looks beautiful and I feel beautiful.
