I started coming to Mary at Parlour 3 years ago. I then moved away and when I moved back, you can bet I went right back to her. Mary is always improving her craft from putting in countless hours learning new methods to perfecting the one she uses on me to the point I don't even get any waterfalls in my extensions anymore. I get lots of compliments on my hair and people are shocked when I share I wear extensions because it looks so natural. I've had friends ask me about it and one friend even drives 45 minutes to see Mary now. I moved to SF and I also make the drive to just see her every 10 weeks. I really enjoyed this self care night, I am I blonde through and through since day 1 and really contemplated this change for too long. After a year of thinking about this hair style, Mary( the owner too) made it a reality. She made me feel taken care of and heard. I left our consultation knowing that I would be in good hands. I was still shocked for a few days after the change but ultimately I love the new look. Being able to easily spend 3-4 hours with someone you barley know, tells me she's good at her job! My experience here was decent. I agree that Parlour 17 is likely better for styling or coloring than basic haircuts-- I'd probably recommend another salon for a regular trim. My visit for a 2-inch trim (hair type: long Asian hair, minimal split ends, no dye) turned out to be $120, and that's before tip. For COVID safety purposes, the salon is at limited capacity, and all patrons + staff must wear masks. The salon interior has a "Live Laugh Love" type of vibe to it. Clean + very "Suburban-Mom-Does-Pinterest-Interior-Design". The staff are friendly but tend to get caught up in conversations between themselves, rather than talking to the client. Fine by me, because I'm not much of a conversationalist during visits, but just a heads up to other folks who want that classic hairdresser chitchat experience at a salon. When we did talk, Brianne talked mostly about herself, specifically about her ongoing venture as a Beachbody "coach". I didn't have the heart to tell her that MLMs are essentially pyramid schemes. Hope she gets out of that soon. The cut took under an hour. Upon further inspection at home, some of my layers were still slightly choppy. Mary did my NBR (Natural Beaded Rows) hair extensions and she was wonderful to work with. She is very professional, competent, and detail-oriented. She also made me feel very secure and confident in the process as all my feedback and wishes were taken into account. On top of everything, when a week later I reached out to Mary saying that I think we got my hair color too dark, she offered me several options and gave me an appointment during which she and her stuff generously fixed my hair for free, as part of the initial package. I couldn't recommend Breanne more! She really took the time to know me and my needs, I love that they have everything written down and I feel like they'll really get to know clients as they come back more. I started with a mess of hair that made me pretty self conscious, and she did let me know that it could take a couple tries to get the color exactly right, however I do feel like where it is is much better than before! Not shown in pictures is that I got an under cut, which she did a great job on, considering I wanted it discreet Their product line sounds really great as well, and they can tell you all about them. In the end I did spend over $300 (after tip) which to me is a lot but it was such an improvement, totally worth it, and I'll definitely be looking forward to my next session! read more

Do NOT,and I repeat, do NOT go to this salon. My hair is ruined by a so called stylist, Nicole, who obviously has no training. I doubt she is licensed. I made an appointment which led me to believe I was booking for a full highlight and cut with an experienced stylist. THere is banding throughout my hair, as well as multiple colors of yellow, tan, white, blotches and completely missed areas. My baby fine, shiny thin hair now is like straw and some ends are damaged. Nicole frequently called over anothe stylist for "pointers": during this whole process. My hair looks like shit and I have never had this damage in all of my life. I will be contacting them for a refund. I sure will not go to them for any corrections, etc. IF my hair, in its now poor state, can even handle a correction process (something which I have never had to seek out), I can only imagine it will cost a fortune. They have no experience and I believe, from her conversation, that this NIcole's real job is at in and out and she is simply helping the owner charge over 350.00 for a cut and highlights from someone that are less talented that what you find at Supercuts. Shady business practice. When it came time for a cut, this other stylist came in because Nicole did not know how to cut hair...really? This is appalling, to say the least and I've no idea what will become of my hair. read more

I was disappointed as I was hoping to become a long time client to keep up my extensions but thankfully I found Parlour 17! Mary was soooo helpful to go me figure out what extensions were used on me since the former place would not even tell me what the brand was! Kristen did my retaping and I love it. Bree was there and SUPER informative! Their prices are reasonable and they are there to help and not just rake in the money. I enjoyed my haircut with Nicolle so much! I have curly, frizzy hair which I have trouble dealing with often. She was able to give me long layers and it was one of the best haircuts and salon experiences I have had. I preferred this hair cut over a "curly cut" I tried once before. She gave me a blow out at the end too, something I hadn't tried before and I was impressed with the results. Like most people, my hair was suffering from Covid-19 minimal upkeep and sorely needed a haircut. Kayla was very personable and helpful as we discussed what kind of cut I wanted. I have straight Asian hair that kind of lays flat if I don't do anything to it. I opted for a long layered look. Kayla gave me a super nice and gentle shampoo. When I was in Japan, I got a "head spa" treatment at a fancy salon, and this reminded me of my head space days. Kayla gave me a perfect haircut with long layers. I really appreciate the time she took to scissor cut everything. The layers frames my face well and has good movement. It's nice how I can just flip a layer from one side to the other and look like I styled my hair a bit to get volume. I'm a pretty low maintenance person when it comes to my daily hair routine, so I love a cut that makes it look like I put in more effort than I really did, lol. Kayla gave me a beach wave type of curl at the end that my boyfriend and I really liked. The layer looked super cute when curled. I would definitely come back for a haircut from Kayla. Although I didn't get any color done, my sister had come to Parlour 17 a few months before me for a trim and color. She got a really fun lavender purple color that has grown out really well. Our friends say her hair looks like a purple sunrise now, which is an apt description. Kayla took care of my sister's color, too. My sister can take some time to make a decision, and Kayla was very patient as they discussed different color and style options. I feel like Kristen deserves more credit and publicity on here! I came in asking for caramel brown highlights and I am pretty particular when it comes to hair color, but she really tried to listen and take time to hear out what I wanted. She was also very knowledgeable and recommended me Parlour 17 specific products called Euphoria and allowed me to further trust in her skills and demonstrated that she really cares for her customers and wants them to use the best product to maintain hair health. Even though the highlights took quite a while (from 11 AM to 4 PM - I have long hair) and I'm sure Kristen was exhausted by the end, she still asked if I wanted my hair curled at the end which I thought was so nice of her! The fact that she made sure to treat me as an important customer made quite the impression on me. I left happily pleased with how my highlights turned out and loved how shiny my hair looked too! If only it could stay like this all of the time! If I'm completely honest, the only reason I'm rating Parlour 17 four stars and not five is because I think Kristen had a difficult time trimming my bangs, but it wasn't a huge deal for me as I simply asked her to correct it. I don't get my hair done that often but this was my 3rd time at Parlour 17 with a different stylist and I'm never disappointed. I've gotten my hair colored by Mary (the owner), Amy (who's no longer there), & Kristen. Like a great owner, Mary monitors her employees and helped give Kristen advice on how to proceed throughout the whole process. Mary and Kristen are not only easy to get along with, but professional as well, and I always feel good energy and vibes every time I come here (cheesy, but true). I've come to Parlour 17 for a few years now, and have always seen Kristen to cut and color my curly black hair. I've always felt like I've left with the cut/color that I wanted, and that's why I always come back. Girls with curly hair know how hard it is to find someone who knows how to cut it properly. Unfortunately since Kristen was out on mat leave, I went to Brianne to get my first post-Covid cut. I wish I had been told that she hadn't had a ton of experience cutting curly dark hair. I have 3a/3b curly hair that I have not styled with heat in several years, so I know most of my hair is healthy and fresh -- I really just needed a trim and a color refresh. When I got there, the assistant (I forget her name) asked if she could use a PICK on my hair to brush it out -- mind you, I have never been asked that before, nor do I have hair that would suggest you would want to use a pick (yes it's thick and curly, but definitely not what I would describe as textured). That was definitely just the start of my frustration, and it made me feel very uncomfortable. I selected the color I wanted for my highlights (a reddish brown), which Brianne said would result in a beautiful copper on me. She finished the highlights first, but kept going back and forth between another customer and me, and I felt that she was definitely prioritizing the other customer (I could just tell by the conversation, the time spent at her chair, etc.). After the foils were completed, she came back to cut my hair, which I explained I wanted mostly a trim but wanted all of my prior highlights at the end to be cut off. I felt like she rushed through my cut, and after I came home I realized that a lot of my old color was still there at the bottom, not trimmed as I had requested. Once my hair dried that evening, I was excited to see how the highlights turned out...sadly, I didn't even see them! There was no copper color, and instead was a dark brown, basically just blending in. I figured I'd give it a few days and a wash before judging how it looked, but 2 months later, and I still see no copper. I feel like I spent $300 on a cut/color that was rushed and impersonal, and I think I'll be looking for a new salon until Kristen comes back. Please for future customers: if other stylists are not as well versed in cutting/styling curly hair, tell the customer!! I'd rather have been told to wait for Kristen's return than coming and being disappointed with my cut now. read more

Glad that I came back to give Parlour 17 a second try after being reached out by Mary since my first visit. Mary is very friendly and has been very patient with me throughout the whole process. I really appreciate her openness to my feedback since the last visit and I can really tell that she is passionate about her job/business. Upon arrival, Mary sat me down at her station and took a look at my hair and told me that she will try to cut more layers and make it flow better. I really appreciate the assertiveness and her confidence. It definitely made me feel like she knew exactly what to do and what she is talking about. We started with the deep conditioning and Mary did a great job. She made sure that I felt comfortable and let me know that the bowl/sink can be moved around if I was uncomfortable. Throughout the time that Mary was cutting my hair, she took the time to explain to me a lot of different things they were doing, like conducting monthly training for their hair stylist, trying different hair products, etc. Even from our conversation, I could tell that she really cared about the growth and development of her staff. I've had terrible experiences with hair cuts and coloring. This salon changed that for me. This salon is situated in a convenient location and they even had a Groupon! I saw Amy for my haircut and loved the way she made my hair look and feel healthy. Mary did my balayage and even when I wanted to go a bit lighter, she made an appointment for me to come back in and do a touch up. I absolutely love it and have gotten so many compliments on how natural it looks. I just visited here to get a balayage done with Kayla! She is super sweet and very personable and was very patient and detail-oriented with my hair. I didn't have an exact look I was going for and was very vague (mainly just that I wanted a balayage somewhere between brown and blonde and I wanted a warm, natural look that would be easy to manage), but she had a good idea of what would look good on me, and I love the look! It took a lot longer than expected and there was a little hiccup with the toner color, but Kayla knew exactly how to fix it and was very apologetic about the delay. I know she had another client that went over time before me, and she worked into the night for my hair, so major kudos to her dedication and attention to detail when she was probably hungry and exhausted! I would highly recommend Kayla for any of your coloring needs. I think she definitely has great knowledge of Asian hair and tries to get you the best price for the look that you want. I just had my hair cut here this evening and I LOVE IT! It was a great treat-yourself moment for a Friday evening after work! This was my first visit and Kirsten was the stylist who helped me. She discussed the hair color and style that I had in mind with me before the dye and cut. She also explained every product that she used to me. I love how the haircut and my new hair color turned out! (I received compliments from my roommate and her friend the moment I got home!) Kirsten is very sweet and fun to talk to, she definitely made the whole experience even better! I actually got help and advice from everyone there! Mary helped create the purple/violet hair that I have now and explained the reasons behind the different colors that they picked out for me. And Brianne also shared hair and color care advice and recommended hair and color protection routine. Everyone there was very friendly and professional at the same time. This is a review for the hair dresser Brielle. I was in need of a last-minute haircut and searched my trusty go-to website yelp for some suggestions. After looking at different places & their reviews, I settled on Parlour 17. I was able to book an appointment last minute online which was very convenient. Plus this salon has basically 5 star reviews raving about how experienced/ nice the hairdressers are and so I was looking forward to trying this place out. I got to be honest, with all the positive reviews I was expecting something different than the service I received. The hair cut turned out pretty nice and Brielle definitely knew what she was doing. She clearly has a lot of experience with hair cuts and did a great job. I took 2 stars off because of the service. As I was getting my haircut, I felt as if I was back in high school (not a good experience). The salon is very small and only Brielle and Mary work there. Seriously, the 2/3 of the time they were chatting about their own lives and it felt as if I was invincible. I mean, when you have clients it's important to make them feel comfortable right? Well, that's not how I felt today. Brielle only talked to me 1) When I was getting my hair shampooed and I initiated small talk and 2) When she asked how I wanted my hair cut. That's it. It was if the two were having lunch and chatting about their weekend. Not professional at all. I've been following Mary for years now and I am very excited for her new business venture in becoming a salon owner. She has extensive experience in both cut & color. She's worked at many high-end salons. Her service is great and her goal is for you to leave happy :) I had a huge transformation done recently and I was very nervous. I had VERY long hair...and decided to chop it all off to get a long bob style (pictures attached). She made me feel at ease and I left without feeling one bit guilty or regretful. She did a few consults with me prior to my actual appointment (tossed around ideas) which made me feel even more comfortable & ready for the big change. I've lived here for nine years and have finally found my stylist. I love Mary. Thank you, Yelpers. But I have to start this review with Kristen. She washed my hair and it was SO relaxing and nice. I want to go back just for this. She massaged my scalp & neck, used just the right temp water, used a yummy smelling product I ended up buying, didn't get any on my face or clothes, gently patted my forehead dry, and dried my ears. It was perfect. And she didn't chat, but instead let me melt into the shampoo chair in silence. And Mary is the best. I almost don't want to write this cause she'll get more booked, but she deserves the love! She first saw me and asked what I wanted, but she couldn't do it because she needed to order the product. She gave me a great consultation at no charge on that day, and then squeezed me in on a Saturday after she did a wedding party in April. After a couple tries, the blue wasn't taking. It was more teal than"Superman blue." She stayed really late to make it exactly what I wanted. She also gave me the shampoo that has kept the blue looking fresh. No pressure to buy anything from her. I love having blue hair. After my cut today, Mary said that when I am ready to redo the blue, change it to another color or back to something more natural, she'd do it. My cut today was perfect, and she asked if I wanted it straight or curly at the end. Stylists never ask me that. They always just blow it out straight. But not Mary. Location was difficult to find, there's no signage outside or even their name on a plaza sign to indicate it's there. So instead of 5 minutes early.. I was 5 minutes late. Amy was my stylist - I just went in for a shampoo, deep condition & blowout. Amy did a great job, I asked for a little bit of curl at the ends, nothing too difficult, but sometimes because of the length it's an ass pain to style. The "deep condition" would be my only gripe, I was expecting to sit for a bit for an actual conditioning treatment. The conditioner sat in my hair for maybe 5 minutes tops; I was expecting somewhere between 20-30 minutes. The Groupon should be advertised as a shampoo & style. That being said, it was a $19 groupon and I would've paid that amount for a blowout anyways. read more
