My mom has been taking me here since I was a kid, and they've given me the works: haircut, perm, colour, you name it. We even used to take my 99 year old grandma here in her wheelchair, and they would move the barber chair out of the way to cut her hair. I love coming here because I feel like I grew up with Haircuts. Their customer service is on point and they always ask me how mom and grandma are doing. I've never left with a haircut I didn't like. Note that this does not include shampoo, which costs extra. (I didn't bother getting it.) - Service is quick but also meticulous -- Amy clipped up my hair in sections, straightened it, and used a razor to ensure each "layer" was even. It only took about 30-45 minutes for Amy to cut my hair, which was quite long and hadn't been cut in a year. She did a relatively simple straight cut, and recommended layering only at the very ends, because my hair is so coarse and has a cowlick. As a way to maintain family tradition, I usually get a haicut a few days before the Lunar New Year. It just so happened that I also had a wedding to go to the day before the new year and since I'm pretty bad at styling my hair, I decided to get a haircut the day before the new year (on the wedding day) so that my hair would be nice for the wedding that afternoon. The salon that I usually frequent was closed since it was Chinese-owned (and they celebrate the lunar new year) so I decided to try Haircuts Beauty Salon as I know a friend who used to go here often. I made an appointment for 10am (their opening time) and I arrived at 9:58am, the salon was already open. There was a guy talking to someone in an enclosed room very loudly in Vietnamese and after a minute of standing awkwardly by the door, he noticed me and asked what I needed. I told him I needed a haircut and that I had made an appointment. His response was, "just sit, she's busy." Errrr... ok.... I was worried that I had to wait long... but thankfully the other customer was only doing eyebrow wax so the lady (hairdresser) finished the job pretty quickly. It was about 10:07 when she finally took me in. I told her I wanted my hair washed (you could opt not to and it would be cheaper), so she took me to the back. The hair-washing was NOT my favorite as she used her NAILS to scratch my scalp... it hurts!!!!!!!! ugghh!!!! I should have said something but I was worried she would be pissed off and would not cut my hair well.... (my paranoia)...She was also not thorough as I felt that she was only washing the top area of the head and not really doing much for the area closer to the neck... I showed her some photos of hairstyles that I wanted and she proceeded on cutting my hair. My hair is reasonably thick, she even said, "wow, lots of hair" (and usually all other hairdressers said so too!) but she didn't part my hair or clip any portion of the hair and just started cutting. This had never happened to me, usually the hairdresser would clip some hair and cut my hair, layer by layer... she didn't which kinda show that she wasn't very thorough. After she cut my hair, she asked if I wanted to dry it so I told her I wanted her to dry and show me how to style it. She then used hairdryer to dry my hair. The hair dryer looked old and cheap and she held it too close to my head, I felt some burning sensations a few times. After the hair was dry, she cut my hair again as obviously some parts are thicker than the other side and a bit mesy. After that, she flat iron my hair. The flat iron also seemed old/cheap as she had to run it through my hair a few times (usually at other salons, once is enough as their flat iron is pretty strong!). She then cut some areas of my hair again (making more adjustments). This makes me wonder if I would have walked away without having her drying/flat-ironing my hair, perhaps, I would come home with uneven length of hair???!!! The whole process took her 45 minutes (shampoo, cut, dry and style) WOW.. so fast... but again, she wasn't being thorough... Overall, it was an alright haircut but since the price point is the same as the other salon I usually go to ($35 for everything), I'll probably go to my usual place in the future as they do a better and more thorough job. One more thing to mention....seems like they're not good at keeping appointments. There was a guy who was waiting for another hairdresser, he made an appointment for 10:30 and he arrived at 10:25. He was still waiting for the hairdresser to come when I left the salon around 10:52. read more

I don't trust many people with my Asian hair, and I only get my hair cut once a year (so I don't get the chance to try many new places). I can say that I've been to this salon twice since moving to the bay area and both times I was very happy with my haircut! I've had 2 different ladies cut my hair and both of them were very good with my generally thin/straight/layered hair. All I asked was to layer the front, cut about 2 inches, and keep the style the same. There was a little bit of communication difficulty as they speak mainly Vietnamese, but they are friendly and I could get what I wanted across. I have been trying to grow my hair out for months and came in for a 'trim' and specified that I just wanted half an inch off. And the woman hardly listened, was brash and rude, and just CUT OFF INCHES. I saw her grab my hair and pull it between her fingers and I moved and said, 'no that's too much!!' And it was to late and she cut through inches of my hairs when I specifically asked for a really small trim. I decided to give this shop a chance seeing how it's in my radius and I didn't want to drive all the way to east side of sj for a cut. Called to make a appointment and I was able to land a spot. Arrived and immediately got sat for my cut. Barber asked me what I wanted and he restated what I want to ensure no mistake before cutting. That to me is key because you can say one thing to a barber and end up with a different cut. Cut it self was clean, precise and I was in and out in under 30 mins. Did I forget to say they don't ask ridiculous amount of money for a male cut? "You get what you pay for," NO. I find that BS. I paid $16 for my cut and it was one of the best cuts I have received since being In the Bay Area. Where as I go to other barber joints and pay like $30+ and end up not impressed what so ever. I went in here to get a simple haircut (male). The price was only 11 dollars, which is pretty cheap. On the other hand, the hairstyle I ask for is extremely simple and doesn't take long at all. First problem: when they were using the trimmer on me, I noticed it was still totally covered in hair (from someone else). After I got my cut I went home and washed my hair and I could see little black hairs coming out (my hair is light brown). Gross. They did a good job on the edges (around the ears, neck), but the top was a bit uneven. They should take the time to at least make sure it's nice and uniform (take more than 2 passes over the area, make sure to brush it out a bit in case some hairs weren't standing up, etc). Also my sideburns were slightly different lengths afterwards. In the end the cut looks OK, but not great. I'll keep looking for a better place to get a haircut. read more

Found this place and went in with very low expectations, but I must say, I totally love my haircut! I went in and the woman there seated me. A couple more customers came in and she told me to wait. While I was waiting, an older man (older like, reminded me of one of my uncles) came over and asked me what I wanted. I hesitated for a while, wondering if he really knew what he was doing, but explained anyway. About 20 minutes later, and I ended up with one of my favorite haircuts I've ever been given! Came here because I saw that it was inexpensive. $15 for ladies! I get a haircut like once a year... rarely twice. I came here around 2:15pm on a Monday and had to wait about 40 minutes... Longer than I expected but there were only two women working, one on hair and the other on nails. It was ok because my haircut was extremely fast. I came in wanting an a-line cut but the lady recommended me otherwise, I didn't mind since I was also unsure. She ended up just trimming my extra damaged ends BUT not taking away too much length!
