There was a long line out the door. The food was okay. I just came for a quick catch up with a friend. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes to order and then about 5-10 minutes for a table. It was a small-ish coffee shop.

The coffee is certainly solid... just solid. It's decent but it's really nothing special so I was surprised that it is rated number 1 in the area. Maybe that says more about the state of coffee in the area than it does about the coffee here. The place is nice, can get pretty packed though. Few outlets and no wifi make it better for hanging out than for doing work. Nothing wrong with that but just an FYI. The pastries I've had are all pretty good but again nothing crazy or life changing.

Solid State is a great coffee shop serving well crafted drinks, has a nice food menu, and ample seating to sit back and enjoy the coffee. I ordered the special which is basically a Samoa Girl Scout cookie in coffee form. Not a typical order for me but I love coconut and had to try it. The drink itself was an iced coconut cream and caramel latte with almond milk. It was sweet, creamy, and delicious. My husband ordered an iced vanilla latte with almond milk which was actually better than mine because it wasn't overly sweet. It had all the right notes and was coffee forward. We split the cardamom bun which was a soft, nicely flavored pastry. And of course I bought a bag of beans to take home which has now been added to the rotation of beans we order online.

Delicious coffee spot! I initially walked by on Sunday and the line was out the door--I think their weekend brunch must be popular. Ended up going Monday morning instead which was a much better line to experience. Staff was friendly, coffee delicious and vibe was great! Fairly quiet with a number of folks typing away on their laptops, I'd imagine it to be a good spot to knock out some emails or work on projects undisturbed.

Needed a treat after an appointment in the area and this place did the trick. Oat milk latte was amazing, and the cardamom bun was solid. They also have a full kitchen! Definitely recommended if you need a coffee shop near 72nd.

Matcha latte was ok. This is definitely a coffee place. The breakfast sandwich was fresh and tasted so good. Would definitely recommend. Loved the vibes as well. Service was quick

Solid State coffee was awesome. Waited in a long line on a rainy Saturday morning. Got a pourover and it was delicious. One of the best cups of coffee I've had in a long time.

Bustling coffee shop in Chelsea! Came here with a friend for some iced tea to-go, and thought the menu was fairly priced. I wish there were some more novel flavors of coffee drinks and tea, though. The coffee shop has a nice food menu as well (if a bit pricey), and I'd love to come back and try some of it! The shop goes surprisingly deep and there's a lot of seating for big groups, booths, etc which was cool to see for a space that was tucked away in the street. I got the berry hibiscus, and it was refreshing and light. There was a decent line on Sunday afternoon, but the service was friendly and quick.

3.5/5 This coffee shop is cute and has a lot of seating in the back and they have a backyard area too. You can definitely chill for a while or even do work here. But the prices here are just so steep. I got a dirty chai latte with oat milk and it was $9 bc you have to pay 50 cents for ice, $1 for oat milk, $0.75 for syrup. I know coffee in the city is crazy expensive already but I have to say this is the most expensive coffee I've ever gotten in nyc and I just didn't think it was amazing? It was good but the coffee here isn't crazy where I'd be willing to pay that much money each time for a latte. But if you live in the area and want a nice place to study or do work, you should check it out.

What a cute coffee shop this is. I have passed it many times but never went in. When you walk in to your left are shelves where you can purchase different items, books, art, coffee. In the front of the shop there is a little seating area. As you walk towards the back there is much more seating. Very friendly place and deff has regulars as the staff would say hi again nice to see you, or hi its been a while how have you been. I got a latte and WOW it was tasty. Not bitter at all or lacking flavor. If you are in the upper west side area I highly recommend this cute spot.

I was at this quaint tea shop east of Koreatown earlier in the evening before going to a meal at the excellent new Thai place, Wanglang. The staff was very friendly, and they specialize in matcha, along with having hojicha, genmaicha, black tea, and sencha. Along with more traditional drinks, they also have fruit options as well as black sugar jelly (I presume kuromitsu) and a Japanese citrus that's not seen much here, hyuganatsu. Along with the citrus, this place is rather unique as they had three different matcha options in terms of variety. As I tend to prefer teas pure and without add-ons, I ordered the Matcha Americano, which is simply matcha and water. I went with the 12-oz version for $6 + tax and ordered the Hajime, though I would likely get the Fuku No Midori next time based on descriptions online. The matcha was solid and had a mild sweetness and a light earthiness. However, it lacked some of the mouth coating found in very high-quality drinks from Sorate or Setsugekka, while being similar in price. Still, that is comparing to some of the best, and this was still very tasty and a lot better than 90% of the places in the city, being more comparable to Kettl. I wouldn't mind going back and ordering the other matcha varietal to see whether that is a better comparison. Outside of this, I enjoyed my drink, and the staff was friendly. I hope they do well.

Mika's Direction is a small matcha-focused shop tucked slightly off the main flow of Koreatown,…read moreeasy to miss if you are not actively looking for it. The space is extremely compact, functioning more like a takeout counter than a café, with only minimal room inside. The main focus here is matcha, with a distinctive approach that lets you choose between three blends: Hinata, which leans creamy and nutty; Hajime, which is more smoky and earthy; and a more traditional-style matcha profile. Drinks like the mango matcha show how they play with these bases, though fruit purées can sometimes overshadow the matcha depending on the combination. They also offer matcha powder for home use and occasional fresh pastries that add a warm, baked aroma to the space. Service is one of the strongest parts of the experience. The staff is consistently warm, attentive, and willing to explain the differences between blends in detail. The atmosphere is cozy but extremely tight, built for short visits rather than lingering. It is not a workspace or hangout café, but more of a quick stop that stands out because of its hospitality and focus on craft. Even in a busy area, it leaves a memorable impression through its matcha quality and genuinely personable service.

Located inside Hashi Market, we walked into a space that feels less like a typical café and more like discovering a hidden Japanese food stop while browsing through the store. The setup is simple but has a unique appeal, the kind of place that works well for a quick drink, dessert, or something to take with you while exploring the area. The connection to the market adds a layer of discovery that makes the visit feel more interesting, and the compact, functional design keeps the focus on the quality of the matcha rather than the surroundings. The matcha offerings are the main highlight, especially for anyone who enjoys a stronger and more authentic matcha flavor. We tried the matcha latte and appreciated that the matcha taste was noticeable rather than being overwhelmed by sweetness. The flavor had a deeper earthy quality, which made it stand out from many sweeter matcha drinks that focus more on milk and syrup. Their matcha ice cream and matcha soft serve also seem to be popular choices, and the desserts lean more toward showcasing the matcha itself instead of just using it as a flavoring. What we liked about Fujiissa is that the menu feels more creative than the standard matcha lineup. Along with traditional options, they have more unique combinations like matcha cold foam drinks and other specialty creations. The matcha affogato is especially appealing for matcha lovers because it highlights both the creamy ice cream texture and the concentrated matcha flavor together. The service was another positive part of the visit. The staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations, which made it easier to decide what to try. Since the space is connected to a Japanese market, it is also a nice place to browse before or after getting a drink rather than being only a quick grab-and-go stop. Fujiissa is a great spot for anyone looking for matcha that has a stronger flavor and a more Japanese-inspired feel. It is not the place to recommend if you prefer very sweet dessert-style matcha, but for people who enjoy the actual taste of matcha, the drinks and desserts are worth checking out. The combination of the market setting, unique menu options, and quality matcha makes it a memorable stop, offering a matcha experience that feels both authentic and thoughtful without overcomplicating what it sets out to do.

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
