This location on or abouts Lexington Ave between east 94th and east 96th street; is so/so. The only thing I hate is when the middle eastern man is working there especially when he is alone. He works too much on autopilot instead of being attentive and trying to deliver customer service and quality items they have. He never cares to make my drinks the correct way, and he will serve you stale, moldy food with no problem/act like he doesn't notice. The other staff there is more attentive and will make your order as you ask, ensuring you leave there happy with what you paid for. It's a hit or miss depending on who's working. Check food quality before leaving out the door as the food and pastries, and or cookies could be stale and or moldy. Coffee and smoothies are as expensive as ever in NYC but Matto does a good job at keeping the cost down. By ordering through the app, the costs stay low and your drink is ready when you arrive. Coffees here are usually good and sometimes they will have specials through instagram or and if you have the Matto App. I have never tried the pastries from here though. Matto 79 was a very accidental find today. What a great place. Friendly service and clean roomy seating. I had my jaw open up in amazement when I was told everything in the place is $2.50! The only reason I'm not rating this location 1 star is because I typically love Matto and have no issue with any other location. This one, however, has went pretty downhill in recent months. I don't know if the employees are new, there's been a management change, etc. but this location never fails to disappoint nowadays. Three orders in a row now have been messed up - hot coffee instead of iced, missing basic ingredients to simple drinks, making the entirely wrong drink altogether, etc. have all occurred. I wouldn't mind mistakes if they were busy or at the very least friendly here... instead, the barista on each occasion wouldn't even lift their head up from their phone when we walked in, just continuing to watch videos or text with no other customers or orders waiting to be picked up. Who doesn't greet a customer when they walk into an empty store? How do you make an iced coffee hot & forget chocolate in a mocha when it's the only order you had to make? I hate to sound like a Karen but it's honestly crazy how much this particular location sucks. read more

This was my first time at a Matto Espresso and I was very pleased. With the app, you can get each item for only $2! Without the app, everything is $2.50. I think the prices are phenomenal. We ordered two croissant sandwiches with hard boiled egg, pesto, and avocado, 2 chocolate almond croissants, a strawberry acai refresher, and a coffee beverage. It was like $12 and then the app took $5 off our first order so it was even less! At Starbucks, it would've been way more expensive. I can't wait to go again and to try some other things out! I stopped by the upper east side spot on Lexington Ave on a Tuesday morning and its the easy to see all the goodies behind the clear closed display counter that makes my visit quick and simple. GOT my decaff cappy , one blueberry muffin and fruit cup and its time to bounce minus 6 dollars and some change. Smart move to plastic wrap the goodies during these times and so far every matto espresso joint i have visited the workers have always been friendly and quick getting customers in and out in a snap.
