I have had great tanning experience but have had a few very bad pedicures. Will return for tan, not nails terrible service

Was at the salon today and I do like the person I've selected as my salon person. I do have to say the salon needs a good cleaning especially in the area of rest rooms and other place in the back. Upon leaving I went to use a restroom and in that restroom many towels were laid out all over the place for air drying? The staff that gets in early obviously does not look around to take care of things like this. Customers should see a spotless clean salon when you consider the kind of services they offer. THE WORST PLACE EVER!! I went there to get manicure, the price for gel manicure is $28. I had my old dipping color so they removed old color for me. I know that some places they charge for removing(maximum $5). I didn't ask them at first because i think it won't be over $5 for that, but when i paid for my service they charged me total $38 and said that $10 for removing. I think $10 for removing isn't reasonable, and i got a cut two fingers from cutting cuticle. I'm not happy with the service and won't go back there definitely. I still gave her almost 20% for tip, but i highly recommend you check prices and ask staff to make sure that someone is not going to rob you for the service,If u want to go there!!! read more

I have been coming here for about 1-2 years. I used to go to Natural Nails on W. Broadway until they closed, then Hollywood Star on E. Broadway until they closed without warning. I was worried I would not find a shop, or a technician that would work for me. I worried for nothing. From the very first time I came to Soleil I have been satisfied. I usually go down the street to get my nails done just because I'm familiar with it there but tonight I didn't have time because I got out of work late. Absolutely disgusting bugs started crawling all over me mid tan session. I laid down and had a towel on my face because I'm using a serum that can cause skin sensitivity. I felt something on my back, thought it was sweat but then felt something strange on my legs like something was crawling on me until I looked down and saw little ant type things with wings/little flies ALL OVER THE BED!!! I jumped up disgusted with 5 min left in the session in shock. I immediately got dressed and told the women that worked there what happens. They wouldn't refund me and told me to leave my number for the owner. They called the owner who them told me that they'd call me back. I asked when I would receive my refund and they said when "the owner called" DO NOT GO HERE. This place is absolutely filthy and should be shut down. They have the worse customer service ever. I can here with my friend thinking we'd have a good time and have our nails looking wonderful but no it was exactly the opposite. When we first came in, no one greeted us. The receptionist is very rude. She was like she did not understand english or she has trouble hearing. I had to repeat myself over and over. They have such a small choice for dip powder. I had some liquid gel on and I'm a professional nail tech myself so I know how this stuff works, I tell her I want the whole thing off and she starts speaking in vietnamese to her coworker and I felt very disrespected. She drilled the whole thing off and BURNED my nail, it was so thin and hot, you're not suppose to drill it like that, but instead soak it but she knew it was hurting me but kept on going. In the end I didn't even do the dip powder because I saw how she was working and I did not like it at all. She didn't take the liquid gel off completely and left my nails looking like sh*t. When I went to go pay and had no cash, everyone knew that I was trying to get cash out the ATM which does not work at all and I got charged for putting in my card just for the damn thing to tell me how much I had in my account like uhh? we can all check that online, I don't think I need to pay $4 for it to tell me on the ATM. I went to go tell the receptionist what happened and she just the ATM "is just like that and it doesn't work sometime." Unbelievable. They knew I was struggling to get cash and SAW me struggling and did not speak up about venmo until I asked. Disgusting. I left with brittle thin nails that were burning and hurting. The attitude from the ladies are so unprofessional and they don't care about you. I came in for a full set gel power dip and they showed me the artificial nails with the colors samples on them for me to decide on an color. I chose a color and when she had brought the powder over, I noticed the color was nothing close to what I chose and saw on the sample nail. I would understand if it had been slightly different because it may look different from the sample to actual color but it was a COMPLETELY different color. I mentioned this to my nail lady and she is immediately offended and starts loudly talking to her coworkers in Vietnamese. Another older lady who worked at the salon came over to see what the problem was and when I put my nail next to the sample nail, she was surprised at how different the color was and asked if I would want it repainted. The lady who did my nails and her other coworkers began yelling at her and she rudely refused to do anything to help fix my nails. Not only was she rude about wrong my nail coloring and denying it when it was clearly a completely different color and refusing to help me at all, The entire time she was not attentive to my nails and kept scratching me with the nail filing machine ( i'm not sure what it is called ) and the whole time her face looked very annoyed and I might even describe as disgusted. The shape of the nails came out nice which is why I would even rate this place a 1 star, but I paid 50$ for a color that I did not want at all with no help or adjustment offered, and the appalling attitude from these employees is not worth it. read more

Bleeding Nail. No Money Off. Please read full review below before going to Soleil Tan and Spa. I don't typically go to Soleil for my nails but I was in a pinch and I was right next door. I had a dip manicure on my nails, but was getting gel this time since it is usually faster. I get my nails done every few weeks, and every time I get the current polish removed, they file on my nails, put nail polish remover, a cotton ball then wrap in tin foil. The woman I had was prying my current dip manicure off with an acrylic fake nail. Sticking it under, and trying to lift off. At first I didn't question it because I thought this was their process but when she was on my pinky I was telling her it hurt. Then she did it one more time which then cracked my actual nail and caused it to bleed. She apologized but then proceeded to tell me it was because of the condition of my nails. (As a reminder, I have gotten my nails done every few weeks for at least 5 years. I've never had this happen). She took my bleeding finger and stuck it into a cap of nail polish remover, which of course stung so I pulled my hand back. She finally wrapped it and then went to go remove the dip on my other hand, USING THE FAKE NAIL TO PRY IT OFF. I politely asked if she could just wrap my nails because I don't want this to happen again. The manicure went on, I debated getting up and leaving but I'm always go by the mindset "everybody is human, give them a chance to make it right." I get up to pay and she charges me full price. Says "come back if any of them chip!" First of all, why would I come back there after what I went through. Second, why was I charged full price when my nail is cracked down the middle and I was there much longer than I should've been because of their mistake. I went here back in June because I received a gift certificate for my birthday. The place had just opened and was clearly not ready for business. There were people setting up stuff and the girl at the front desk wasn't even 100% sure about what was going on. Their web site was not set up then and I don't think it is even set up now, 4 months later. I settled on a pedicure. The private rooms are nice as well as the fact they give you a laptop to play on while you're getting your pedicure. BUT the woman who did it stopped on 2 different occasions to ANSWER HER CELL PHONE. Um, that is not ok. I still have a big chunk of that gift certificate left so I am hoping the service will improve when I go back. read more

I came here for a polish change on Saturday morning and was impressed with how clean and uncluttered this salon was. I was immediately ready to accept it as my new "spot" in Southie because I am always annoyed with how unfinished, cluttered, and generally dirty looking nail salons can be. I didn't have to wait at all and the polish change itself went very quickly. I was happy with how it came out and even more thrilled when the 4 minute dryers actually dryed my nails completely in the 4 minutes. On the down side, the polish did start to chip the next day and it was more expensive than the other salons in the area ($10 for a polish change, before tip). This may have been a fluke, but I don't think I will waste my money here again no matter how nice the atmosphere is. Bummer. read more

I used to live in Southie, and this was my nail spot. A friend was in from Florida for a wedding, so we made appointments for the day before. I got a mani/pedi, the other girls just got manis. First off: the pedis here are still great. The atmosphere is relaxing, and they really do a good job on my feet. However, I was really displeased with my mani here. I felt VERY rushed - there was no hand massage, and my nails were painted very quickly. In fact, I was finished about 10 minutes after my friends, who again had just gotten manis. After I came out of the salon, I saw that a terrible job had been done on my cuticles. They are half pushed down, and the polish doesn't meet the skin at all. The next day, it even looked like I had the mani done a week ago, that's how much space there was between the polish and skin. This mani looks so bad it only lasted a few days before I had to strip it off. If I'm in the neighborhood, I may consider getting a pedi, but I'll have my combo done elsewhere. read more

On every website I could find, this spa indicates it is open until 7pm. I specifically kept this in mind one day after work when I needed a quick tanning session before going on vacation. I got out of work late and headed here on the bus. I walked in at 6:40pm, open the door, saw a receptionist and went to walk over to her. I was stopped and another woman just says, "Sorry we're closed." I proceed to say, "Oh, I'm sorry, I was under the impression you closed at 7:00pm?" She rudely said, "No, we're closed." She didn't ask me what I needed or if maybe I wanted to make an appointment for the next day. I was turned off by her general attitude and lack of customer service. The false advertisement about the closing time was frustrating. Had I known I would be turned down for service, I would have planned accordingly and went somewhere else a bit earlier. Customer service is important to me and due to this experience and inconvenience, I will not be returning to this spa. read more

This salon has a lot of tanning beds and is a nice atmosphere. However, they provided no suntan lotion like every other place does (I cover my two tattoos with it). Also the bed they put me in had a big crack on the bottom glass which gave me marks/didn't tan in that area! It's time they replace that machine. read more

Having just moved here from Florida I was in need of a tanning bed since I am going to be in a wedding in Florida two weeks from now. Having looked up another place I saw in the area I headed over there and was surprised when I got there and they were closed. The website said they were open and apparently were usually open on Sunday's per the girl walking up to the door the same time as me. So I was actually heading home (down East Broadway to West Broadway) when I saw Soleil Tan and Spa. The only reason I stopped was because it specifially said TAN and SPA in the name. I was looking for a place that specializes in tanning, not just a random nail salon with one or two beds. Not being an avid tanner I needed someone to walk me thru this whole process. I haven't tanned in a salon in over 10 years being that I've lived in Florida. The receptionist at the desk was awesome. I explained my sitaution and she was very accomodating. She showed me all the different options and beds and which would work best for me. They have something crazy like 20 different beds and stand ups. I've been here for both spray tan and mani/pedis. I think their prices are very fair for the spray tan and I will continue to utilize this service but I've been incredibly and continually disappointed by the service I receive from the girl at the front desk. I completely understand that walking in 20 minutes prior to closing time isn't exactly ideal, I've worked in a similar position during college. But I don't understand the negative attitude that comes along with it, especially when I specifically said, "If there isn't enough time tonight I don't mind coming back tomorrow." I first came here for a tanning session. They have beds and booths, different levels, all of which are new and clean. I went in a level 1 booth and the tan was excellent - the booth definitely had new bulbs. Tan - check. I came back later the same week for a mani/pedi. I came in about an hour before they closed, no appointment, and they took me right in. The pedi chairs are semi private (two to a room) and they do have a great selection of magazines. Even though it was close to closing time, they did not rush at all! I got a great foot massage and the pedi/polish look great. The mani was also pretty good, but they don't soak your hands, which I find a bit strange. It did come out looking very good though so I can't complain much. The mani/pedi are a little bit more expensive than other places in southie ($26 pedi and $14 mani) but the service is prompt and friendly, the place is clean, and they do a good job. Never going back. I have been going to this salon regularly for a shellac manicure and pedicure since late July. I think I've been deluding myself up until now considering it's close proximity to my apartment. The attitude from the girls behind the front desk (never seen the same one twice) is lacking to say the least. They are far from attentive and seem put out whenever a customer approaches. Sorry to interrupt your facebooking and netflix ladies but your lack of professionalism and manners is abhorrent. It doesn't get much better from there. I've had 4-5 different employees who have given me my shellac mani and/or pedi. It always feels rushed and with very little attention paid to the customer or their work. They frequently don't let the remover sit on your nails long enough before hacking away at it. My fingers always feel raw after all is said and done. Constantly wincing is not how I want to spend my appointment. They practically toss your hand back at you after applying a layer of polish. Despite all of these unpleasant factors I ALWAYS leave a good tip. I'm sick of tipping for getting my fingers ripped apart. My roommate who would go with me has had her shellac nail chip after 2-3 days, hardly worth the money. My visit tonight was the last straw. I went spray tanning here (my first time ever) and will not be back again. The girl at the front desk seemed stand-offish and wasn't very welcoming. When I told her it was my first time spray tanning, she did take some time to go over the procedure, but I felt as if I was bothering her by asking follow up questions. The machine doesn't beep or talk when you are supposed to turn, which was a little confusing and inconvenient. You also only turn twice (other places you turn up to 4 times) so I'm not sure if the coverage is as good as it could be. There was plenty of hair bets, but only 1 towel, and nothing to put down to protect your feet. For $25 this definitely felt like a bad deal. Won't be back again. read more

SoleilCambridge I have been patronizing Soleil Tan & Spa for 15 years. Going once or twice week. Tipping the staff 30-40% Manager is so mean and rude. Always yelling at the staff and her boyfriend. Yelling at customers too. She was just swearing and yelling at me in front of customers and staff because I wanted a specific gel treatment and she said she did not have it. Come to find out she did. Terrible management. Does not listen to customers. Customer is always wrong. No worries. Plenty of nice nail salons in the area where management is not yelling and rude all the time. She cannot keep employees because she is s mean to them. Always new employees. Makes the atmosphere toxic! read more

These people couldn't be any ruder if they tried. Asked prior to my appt if I could be seated next to my friend I was coming in with they said yes. 15 minutes later when I arrived the nail tech didn't want to move her for a basic manicure. They never clean the cuticles correctly and their acrylic jobs are horrific. I've been coming here for over ten years and their job is sub par but usually easy enough to get an appt and is close to my house. Tried to continue tanning there and get my nails done elsewhere but even that is a disaster. read more

I just had my first visit to Soleil today and had the deluxe pedicure. They have a couple Boston locations, but I went to the one in South Boston. The deluxe pedi was a little pricey ($42), but their normal pedicures seem to be about standard price ($28). I decided to pay a little more because I was intrigued by the hot stone massage. It was definitely worth it. I have been searching around Boston and trying different places to find a great pedicure ever since I moved here in November, and I am so happy I found this place. Most places charge about $25 for a very quick pedicure, and while they're fine, they're just kind of blah and short. This pedicure was a good 45+ minutes, and included an exfoliating rub, lotion/aloe, oil, and hot stone massage. The woman doing mine spent a long time and took good care. They also all wore gloves, and the place was very, very clean. The pedicures are done in little rooms with two chairs, which is nice if you bring a friend with you. I will definitely be returning to Soleil for all my future pedicures. read more

I go here because it seems there are not many tanning options in South Boston. I have never gotten my nails done here, but I have heard pretty good things about it. read more

This is a real hit or miss shop. The tanning is what it is. It's tanning. The nail salon is totally dependent upon on who does your nails. So far, I have had 1 gal who I was totally satisfied with. But what brings my review today is the experience I just had while getting a gel manicure. And I am actually quite pissed right now so writing this review probably isn't the thing to do. But alas! I went into Soleil Tan & Spa and requested a gel manicure. Did I have an appointment? No. But they managed to squeeze me in anyway. Great. I pick a color - red. I ask if they were able to do a design with that type of manicure ( I have had this done before so I didn't think I was reinventing the wheel ). The gentlemen who would be doing my nails was reluctant. I showed him a cute pic of a design I liked and he said he couldn't do it - the pic was of natural nails, and there was too much going on. So I said ok. 2 seconds later, a gal comes over to say she can in fact do the design over gel. Great. Off we go. He starts to file, and I notice all the nails are a different shape (some square, some round, 1 nail a whole new shape of its own) and length. So I ask him to shorten the 3 that were the longest, hoping that would prompt him to go over the others. But it doesn't. Ok then. So we continue on. 2 coats later (I'm used to 3 coats but what do I know), he says "can I make a recommendation?" I say "sure". He says "Don't do the design. These nails are perfect the way they are". I am thinking to myself "WTF are you looking at!" - I reluctantly say ok. He says "This is a great color. It's really classy don't you think? If you do a design you will need a color that really stands out like white etc. This is a great color on it's own" So now I am thinking to myself "so basically my cute little candy cane idea isn't classy? WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?". So he keeps telling me how great the nails are etc. and then asks me if I still want to do the design. Well DUH. I say nope don't worry about it. So my nails are now officially done, and he says "do you want lotion too?" So let me get this straight, I am paying for a manicure, not a cheap one either, and you are asking me if I want lotion and a massage? My dry, cracked and bleeding fingers could tell you that yes, yes I would like lotion. He looks at my hands and says "oh ya, your hands are really dry". Well, he puts a teeny tiny dab of lotion on the top of my hand and arm, rubs for 2 seconds on each side and calls it a day. I then lotion the remaining part of my hand that needs the most attention : MY FINGERS and grab 2 extra squirts of lotion. I take a look at my nails and end up quite disappointed. Some are round, some are square. Some are longer than others. And of course the pointer finger that's filed at an angle, maybe he was trying to file me a weapon so if I was jumped on the way back to my car I would have protection? Anyway, I leave a tip even though I don't want to and run out the door. Going through my mind I am thinking "do I call tomorrow?" "do I call tonight?" "do I just go back in and complain?" "do I file the damn nails myself?". Needless to say I am none too thrilled that I will be going back in on Sunday demanding a redo. By the only gal in the place who can do friggin nails right. Bottom Line : Find a place where everyone does a good job. That way no matter who you get to complete the job you know what to expect. Advice to the technician : Don't ever use the word "classy" when trying to deter someone from getting what they ask for. You are basically telling them that their idea has no class. And therefore insulting them greatly. read more

DO NOT get your eyebrows done here. I repeat DO NOT get your eyebrows done here! I got mine done today after not getting them some in about a year since I have been doing them myself. I am going on vaca in 2 days so figured why not. Man this was a huge mistake !! In the middle of waxing my eyebrow the woman said "oh shit, shit shit!" of course I panicked because who would want to hear this. She immediately went to get another worker. They gave me a mirror and I looked and saw the middle of my eyebrow was basically gone!! I started crying and didn't know what to do. They just stood around dumbfounded and then got a pencil to pencil it in. Luckily you cannot notice with pencil but I need to almost fully pencil it in until it grows back. Of course they did not charge me but I will never go back. BE CAREFUL!! It was awful. read more

This was probably the worst manicure/pedicure I have ever experienced. I made an appointment for a 6:30 on a Thursday evening. When I got to the salon, I noticed there were hardly any nail colors to choose from on the wall (much later when I was getting my manicure and they were cleaning up for the evening, I noticed them collecting all the colors from the different seats and putting them back on the wall - so it really was just them not putting them back as the day went along). After waiting nearly 20 minutes despite making an appointment, I finally sat down for my pedicure and did not receive an apology. The technician was terrible. She was so rough on my feet that they literally started cramping up during the pedicure and I had to to tell her to relax a little. The same treatment continued when my manicure began. Not only was she rough, but she was rude and WHILE she was painting my nails she started talking on her cell phone in another language. I was stunned. Over the next few days, my fingernails actually felt achy. When I removed the nail polish I found that my nail beds were bruised. It goes without saying that I will never be returning here again. I have warned all my friends to not go here for a manicure or pedicure. read more
