WOW!!! This is a great new store for Elmwood. Especially for men, but makes a woman's job easier if she's looking for a gift for that man. The space feels great. The owner has clearly worked hard for that feel. Comfortable. Inviting. Open. Wares nicely displayed. Fabulous things on the walls. Nice display cases. The owner is a fairly young guy, especially for a shoe repair man. He learned the trade because of his own shoe wear. Its awesome to see people learning this skill, especially as its harder and harder to find stores like this anywhere. Walking in it may take you a moment to orient. To the left is the counter. You can drop of your shoes for repair here (men's and women's). Behind the counter is a collection of sunglasses. This is not sunglasses hut, it's a small collection of glasses that is sure to have something for everyone. Different shapes, styles and sizes. Under the counter are the Visconti pens, which, if you ever used one you remember. To the right are shoes. All men's. Boots. Boating. Work. Play. Again, small collection with a nice variety of choices. They seem to have a small line made for them by hand, but I'm not sure of the details there. Going upstairs you will find more shoe options. But also some belts. And men's socks (low and high) in various colors and patterns. The socks felt great. There are some nice men's bags up there and a few rugged coats rounding it all out. This store is beautiful. And useful. Well worth a visit if you are "shopping local" on Elmwood. Street meter parking. Elmwood and Anderson Place. 2034

I'm not a go to negative review writer so it pains me to say I had a bad experience with this place. Paid somewhere between $30-40 for a simple glue job. Thought it was pricey, but figured it would be done well given their good reputation. The repair was faulty and the shoes started coming apart within two wears a few wks later. Went back to ask if it could be redone. The proprietor admitted to the mistake, but said it would be another $40. He then changed the wording to say it was actually my mistake not his. I'm not a professional shoe cobbler, so I'm wondering how that could be. Then again, it was indeed my mistake going there. He also tore the soles almost completely off, leaving the problem worse than ever.

I was greeted at the door, led to a chair, and spoiled, while Paul measured my feet, checked the stock for different sizes and styles, assisted me with trying on different shoes and kept track of my purchases while I browsed the store for more. Paul was so kind & professional. He listened to my concerns, asked thoughtful questions about where & why I'd be wearing my new shoes, and found me two sets of shoes made from high-quality leather that are made to last. This was my first visit to SAS shoes, but it certainly won't be my last. Like Paul says, "cheap things usually aren't made to last and things made to last usually aren't cheap!"

This post-Christmas trip to DSW was not casual. This was not a browse. This was a shoe emergency…read more My husband didn't just need tennis shoes -- he NEEEEEEEDED tennis shoes. The last time he bought new sneakers was... 2010. I am not making that up. That means his current pair could legally be classified as antiques. Recently we went to a Tai Chi class together, and this man -- who otherwise considers himself quite stylish -- showed up in CROCS. I briefly considered pretending I did not know him. The very next day he said, "Do we have time to go look for sneakers?" followed by, "Where does one even buy shoes around here?" Enter DSW, my hero. Not only did we find him a pair... we found two. Their selection is fantastic -- all the good brands, tons of styles, and prices that don't make your eye twitch. Men's, women's, kids', athletic, dress, boots, casual -- if your feet need it, they've got it. They even have enough socks to support a full-scale sock-puppet theater troupe. My only tiny complaint? They could absolutely use more benches. One per aisle would be dreamy. Because when you're trying on shoes like it's your job, you need a place to sit. In a world where everything is online, I love that DSW is a real, fully stocked, walk-in store with fair prices and instant gratification. And yes -- there's a rewards program. You're not going to retire on it, but I did earn $5 off my next pair, which at today's gas prices may very well cover my round-trip there and back. We walked in with a shoe crisis. We walked out with happy feet and dignity restored. Five stars, no notes.
