Update: after posting the review and a follow up email I was contacted by solar tech with a quote and follow up to have the work done. The day of the scheduled repair I was contacted to try to move the work date. My husband and I had arranged to work from home that day so I asked that we keep the scheduled appointment. The office worked to get another team to work the job. I realize you can't plan for people calling in sick to work but this happened both for our initial inspection and the repair. The office people I dealt with were all very nice and pleasant. The technician who ended up coming out, Arturo, is great and did a very nice job of explaining what was done. My take away: Kind of a hassle to deal with the company but the people are nice and the work seems to be good. read more

So, let me start by saying SolarTech did a great job. We wanted to get solar to our house for a long time. during the research time I came across with several top notch popular brands and of course SolarTech San Diego based local business. It immediately caught my attention. we went thru the assessment process with 3 different estimates from three different companies. after considering all three of them we decided move forward with SolarTech simply because they're a local business, for the best price and they were honest about the whole process. not to forget i got good recommendations from people we know around san diego. from beginning to the end of the project i communicated with our sales person Ali Ibrahim (a very nice guy) :). him and the whole SolarTech team (Installation team/ Office staff) was nothing but helpful throughout the whole process. true that there were few hiccups during installation and after installation (just like working with any other company). however, since SolarTech is a local San Diego business they responded quicker than any big companies i.e: Tesla. I got Larry's information from my HOA, and emailed him about my situation asking if solar might work for me. Thankfully, instead of quickly writing my email off as a non-sale, he replied with a full explanation of why solar probably wouldn't be worth my while (my electric bills are less than $50). Double bonus- he didn't try to pressure me into a sale anyway AND I was able to understand the major Pro's and Con's. After some frustration with resetting my WiFi network connection to our Solar app we called a Solar Tech Jerry Hannis for some assistance on fixing our issue. All I can say is that his customer service is top notch! He went above and beyond and drove all the way from Lake Elsinore to Chula Vista just to help me out! Jerry reset our connection and made us feel at ease and assured us that this happens sometimes when your WiFi set up changes (which ours did after changing modems) and not to worry. He also explained what steps he did to fix the problem. Also not to mention this was a same day last minute service call which he still made time to stop by! Very smooth transaction and excellent work. We had Roofing by Solartech replace the room on our house in Spring Valley before we had the solar installed. We saw them get started and then we left out of town for a day, when we came back there was a beautiful new roof on the house and it was all clean. I mean really clean. Upon moving to Escondido, and seeing what SDG&E's rates were like I knew that I had to get solar before summer hit. SolarTech was my second call for an estimate. Ali Ibrahim came out, and sat down with me and thoroughly went thru all the possible options. As I wanted the most bang for my buck I went with the Sunpower 360 panels. I emphasized to Ali the need for as speedy a process as possible, due my need for a/c as the summer heat begins. Ali understood. We got the contract signed and things began to happen very quickly. After signing on 5/30, I was promised an install date of July 5th & 6th. Ali is not a salesman who gets the contract and just moves on. He kept an eye on the project, and when an unexpected opening occurred he made sure that I was slotted in! BUYERS BEWARE! In February of 2019, I had solar installed and went through Solar Tech. Per contract, they had a "production guarantee" clause meaning if production was not met each year, they will refund me a specific amount. Back in August of 2019, I noticed that our solar production stopped and my electricity bill was extremely high. I contacted Solar Tech and it took them awhile to come out and address the issue. Please note that our solar system was not operating for 2 1/2 months so I was paying both electricity and a solar payment. At first, they kept saying this was not their mistake and that I would not be getting any sort of refund but when the technician came out, he specifically stated that this was an installation error. At that time, Solar tech emailed me and admitted responsibility due to an installation error. They said that once I receive my true up bill in February of 2020, they will true-up with me as well and refund me for any under production. They even copied and pasted the production guarantee clause from our contract. Fast forward to February of 2020, I received my true up bill from SDG&E and I owed about $4,000 for electricity. Side note: I am now paying much more having solar than I would have paid without having it since the production is nowhere near what was estimated. Anyway, the solar did in fact under produce so per contract, they were supposed to refund me some money. When I emailed them sending all supporting documents and asking for my refund, the service manager sent me back an email on February 10th, 2020 saying there was no production guarantees written anywhere in my contract. I then forwarded their email that was sent to me in August along with a copy of the contract, and he then stated that "this is not standard practice to write in a production guarantee and they may be able to work something out for this year but an addendum to the contract will be needed moving forward".. WAIT WHAT?? You can't amend a contract after the fact??? It is now April 9th, and after numerous attempts to collect what is owed to me they are non-responsive and will not give me what is owed. I have called and emailed several times and nobody is getting back to me! I am extremely disappointed with their customer service and lack of professionalism. read more

What a great company. On the first day, six guys came and tore the old roof off of the house. This company means business! All plants on the side area of the house were covered with tarps to minimize any damage from falling debris. After the old roof was taken off, the crew cleaned up any stray debris on the property. They even used a magnetic device to pick up any nails that might have fallen from the roof removal work. All new roofing material was placed neatly on top of the roof for the next day's work. On the next day, the roofing install crew (Bernie, David, Rick, and Matt) came and installed new fascia and side boards, including the new synthetic underlayment. In addition, deteriorating sheathing plywood was replaced with new sheathing in certain areas of the roof. Also, the crew put on a portion of the new Owens Corning Cool Roof Shingles. And before leaving for the day, the crew again cleaned up around the property while again using the all important magnetic nail sweeper. On the final day, the install crew completed the installation of the sheathing and shingles. The flashing and roof vents were also put in place. One significant but welcomed warning from the crew was to remove any vehicles from the garage because roofing debris could fall into it. Sometimes in today's world, it is hard to find a reputable company. SolarTech Roofing is a professional company where the customer comes first. Response to Travis. 1. Tiles - Somehow you found tiles that matched in color. The dark purplish color tiles that were originally used were not close. Solartech admitted the first crew did not know how to finish a roof. I would recommend any potential customers to use a different roofer. 2. Nails - I did not realize nails would continue to fall off my roof months later. 3. Panel Firmware - Not blaming you for firmware, but all my other panels were fine. Why should a customer have to wait four months? It was a new system the panel should have been replaced right away. Most dealerships would work to resolve issue and not send people off to the car maker. Solartech represents Sunpower, so the four months still reflect back to you. How proactive are you ensuring Sunpower resolves the issues? I never received an answer from my other issue. So if there is no open case then Sunpower closed it with not resolving. 4. Individual Monitoring - I would pay a small fee if that was required, I believe it is important for customers to see this information. Had I not been able to, I would probably still have a panel not working correctly. You may be surprised how smart customers may be. It was easy for me. I looked at the two panels next to the one with the issue. All west facing, which would produce really similar numbers. I hope Sunpower brings it back 5. Customer Service - I look forward to better Customer Service. Hopefully, the new CEO at Sunpower can fix customer service. Not everyone is going to have a wonderful experience with Solartech. I just got new vinyl windows installed now ready for solar. After getting several bids, I learned a lot about solar and started my own analysis. I created my own spreadsheets comparing panel manufacturers, TOU plans with my energy consumption over 2 years, breakeven point, etc. Ultimately, I decided on SolarTech because they use the best panels, at a reasonable cost, no subcontracting and had great reviews. Laura (solar consultant) was very knowledgeable and answered all my technical questions and I had many. The SunPower panels have one of the highest efficiency, high output power rating, performance guarantee and warranty. Their warranty is longer that most manufacturers been in the solar business. SolarTech is estimating a 5-year breakeven point. Efren and crew installed the panels and electrical with great detail and thoughtfulness even under extreme heat. Eric and the team at SolarTech deserve their Number One position on Yelp for solar in San Diego. This is my second review, after having both sets of panels (22 total 360 watt Sunpower X-22 Equinox) put on. My first panel setup was 14x360 watt Sunpower Equinox X-22 panels at $16,600. This included attic run, paint matched conduit, and hard-wired panel monitoring. I also added the Bosch EV Charger for $350 in our 3rd car bay, which required conduit across from the main box over the garage ceiling, and dropped to the far garage wall where our EV is parked. The Bosch Level 2 EV Charger I bought is a 40 amp on Amazon for $999. VW E-Golf's from 2016 and above can only take 30 amp, but I wanted quicker charging in case we got another thirstier EV. My second panel addition was 8x360 watt Sunpower Equinox X-22 panels at $9300. All of my costs listed do not include the federal credit. I got the second set of panels because my EV use necessitated more panels to offset. With our current 22x360 watt panels, we are managing to net produce about 50kwh per week. All of our loans were through their recommended lender SDMCU, and since their relationship is close, they will start work if the lender is close but has not closed yet. Typically for an unknown lender, installers will want checks in hand and make you wait weeks for checks to arrive and cash, but because they have trust with SDMCU (San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union), they will get started right away. The loan interest rates were 5.49% for the first set of panels at 12 years, and 6.49% for the second set of panels at 12 years. You absolutely need this longer loan term in order to make your monthly payments equal out to your current payments. There isn't a better lender in SD, I researched, painfully. For us, the payments end up being $150/mo for the first loan, $99/mo for the second loan. Both monthly payments will drop to a combined about $100/month after we get our federal 30% tax credit on all our solar installation + EV charger installation. We were already paying about $150/month without the EV and $200/month with the EV, so we are breaking even month-to-month. The final payoff will breakeven about 10 years in. Do all your panels together so you don't make your credit worse and incur a higher interest rate the second time around. Andrea at SDMCU worked for us really hard to make sure we could extend the loan as many years out as possible. Usually each thousand borrowed gets you one year. She got a special exception to get our second loan of $9300 approved for 12 years instead of only 9. You can reach our sales guy Eric Broderdorf at 619-954-7520. He is super knowledgeable, and his project manager Grant Magoffin is a downright electrical wizard. If Grant says it can be done, it will be done. Don't be shy about any particular needs you have with timing or how stuff looks. If a contractor missed a paint spot, ask for it to be fixed and they'll be out in 24 hours. Mention my name, Caleb Chao and you should get extra aggressive pricing. I have already maximized my solar output so I'm not getting a kickback. Don' rely on your sales rep to do what they say at SolarTech, sadly I got BAIT & SWITCHED and was horribly embarrassed in the process !! ! No one at the company can adequately address this... Where to start? Well I am sad to say that I did not do my own research but instead relied on the recommendation of a good friend who is an Engineer. He told me he did a lot of research a few years earlier and chose SolarTech over Tesla for his solar install. Good enough for me! The problem is the sales promises and accountability and unfortunately there was plenty of one but very little of the other, and I ended up super disappointed with SolarTech. My rep, Dave Demerset, came to my home and we signed a deal back in December 2021. He informed me that if I signed before the end of December that I would get a $1,000.00 gift card after the project was complete. I informed him very clearly and he put into his notes that my friend, a former customer, had referred me. He confirmed that they give a $500 referral fee to the referrer and it was fine by him since the $ comes from the manufacturer. I told him I was only meeting with him because of my friend's referral and that it saved him from me shopping his price. Everyone was pleased. I signed later that week and provided my deposit. So... the install takes place, took a bit longer than expected and there was an add on fee or two for minor things, and I was pleased enough through the process. The sales rep is less involved and the install team takes over and it was fine by me. I made my final payment on the project back in March 2022. Dave was there to collect in person. In May I emailed him asking about the 1K for me and the $500 for my friend Matt. I had to follow up several times and finally heard back: 5/20/2022 1201pm Hi Josh, Sorry for the delayed reply, I was waiting for confirmation from the office on how your lead was procured. When I put in the request for the referral fee to be paid to your friend, our marketing department said that your lead was provided directly to us from SunPower. We pay them $500 per lead. They said that if Matt ##### referred you to SunPower, he would contact SunPower for a referral fee for them. I'm sorry my friend, I have it noted from the start that you said Matt ###### referred you to us. Our accounting department confirmed that we paid SunPower for your lead. I apologize for the disappointment, but all may not be lost if Matt reached out to SunPower directly and explains that he referred you to them and you confirm, they may pay him a fee. Regarding the $1,000.00 cash back to you, that takes 3-4 week from the date the last payment was received. You should be receiving it soon. I'll follow up with the office on it. Ali and his team took amazing care of our home and installation. The installers were very professional from start to finish. They finished the project on time and did were able to install 52 of their high end panels without any issues. They also did an incredible job matching the paint of our home with their materials that you hardly notice any changes. Definitely recommend going with the highest kw panels WITH microconverters, it'll take up less space in the side of your home where their panels go.
