I purchased a home solar system from SolarMax in summer 2019. My system came with a 10-year power performance guarantee and 10 years of monitoring. Less than three years after the system was installed, the monitoring stopped working due to T-Mobile retiring its 3G network. When I called SolarMax to ask what to do about this, they said that I would need to pay $625 to install a WiFi card, and that my power performance guarantee would only be valid if I paid for this upgrade. When I purchased the system, the salesperson, Jose Lopez, told me via email, "Our system does include monitoring. We do not charge additional for our monitoring." He didn't mention the 3G modem or say anything about the monitoring being conditional on a third party supporting 3G. With 7 years remaining on my power performance guarantee, I have no way of verifying that the system is performing as expected. If energy production decreases, then I won't know, and SolarMax won't compensate me for the underproduction. I feel like I'm being forced to pay an extra $625 for something that was supposed to be included in the upfront price. read more

I chose solarmax back 2016 because they had the most reasonable price. The installation took over 7 months (some of it is due to SDGE). And the installation was not without problems/issues/and many phone calls. The good news is that once it was installed, we didn't have any problems, until April of 2022. The bad news is that once you have a problem, they will leave you high and dry for months... The system broke down in April, 2022. SunRun Notified me that the system is not working about 1 week after the system is down. and I then notified SolarMax and got someone out in about 2-3 weeks. Someone did show up and found that the inverter needs to be replaced. Now it is June, and they system is still down... someone was supposed to come yesterday, someone did, and did nothing and left. I would not recommend going with SolarMax... I will update this review with how long it actually takes them to fix the system... read more

Horrible customer service for warranty claims. I emailed their customer service department regarding a leaking roof due to their workmanship. After multiple emails and phone calls, they finally scheduled a repair date 5 weeks from the date of our claim. Their reason for the long wait was "there is an overwhelming amount of customers still waiting...since the last storm." This is a huge red flag. If they have an "overwhelming amount" of roof leaks due to one summer storm, that should be enough for anyone considering using SolarMax for a new system to look elsewhere. Furthermore, their solution to stopping the leaks was to slap a bunch of silicone caulking on the shingles and around their mounts. This is literally a band-aid that will not last in the hot southern California sun. They are looking for the least expensive way to get by until your warranty expires and you are stuck with a leaky roof. read more

We got 3 bids through Costco, Tesla, and SolarMax. It wasn't even a competition. Sarah came to our house, knew her stuff, and gave us a great price. I did a lot of research and the other firms were trying to dumb down the system to meet the SolarMax price. We ended up with a top of the line system, easy process, great financing, and as Sarah knew how picky I was about aesthetics a system that you can't see unless you are really looking hard. Laura Ramirez is TERRIFIC!!! Without her constant follow-up and working the process all the way through, I may have not gone solar. She walked me through the financial savings, at least several time until I reached my comfort level and timing of installation...made it very easy and enjoyable experience. I had my system put in very recently and activated Jan 10th and the system has been well above my expectations. Everyone that came to the house was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. This is my first solar system and the process was super easy, the system really looks great and the price was second to none. No other company, and literally had 7 companies come out for bidding. I also like the fact that they have in-house financing. I highly recommend them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone friends or family as well. Sales lady came to home and ran credit and said we good for 0 down and 520 a month for 5 years. We said ok and then solar max said no you need 5 k down one thousand now and 4 when matierals arive so we payed the 1 k down. then they said you have to put 10 thousand down afer we had a contract sighed and payment made. We did not have 10k so we said no and asked for money back that was 10-31-2018 to this date 1-18-2019 we have not recieved our money back read more

These people are jerks! Harassing me for business when I never gave them my contact information. I requested to Bryan to take my email off their marketing list his mature response was to reply with a laugh. I am so tired of companies like this thinking they know what I want. If I wanted such service I would call them. I get at least three knocks on my door a week for solar and I won't do business with then either. Intruding into my email and my private phone number is not necessary and disruptive. What's next? Going to my kids school and brainwashing them. Oh ya, that's already happening. read more

I am super happy with the decision we made to go with SolarMax for our solar system provider. We knew we need to get solar panels, and there are A LOT of different companies that can get your solar system install, but not all of them provide the great service that SolarMax has to offer. Excellent customer service. Just met with a sales rep, Blake, from SolarMax. Awesome guy. He said our usage wasn't enough to justify a system at this time. This is after a rep from A-1 Solar gave us a quote yesterday. The rep from A-1 put on a hard sell that we didn't appreciate. Blake was upfront and said give him a call if/when our usage increases. I really appreciate that, as it indicates to me that this company is about its product, not simply making sales. I look forward to the possibility of writing a review detailing our experience with installationin and hardware in the future. Although I can't attest to the quality of their product at this time, I highly suggest including SolarMax if you're looking to get quotes. read more

I started the process at the end of November 2015, being in California it took longer than most cases concerning permits and working with SDG&E. I finally have everything installed and working properly May 16th 2016. We had some hiccups along the way with other identities (besides Solarmax) scheduling but it wasn't critical enough to complain about.
