We have had a positive experience working with solar technologies. The best part was working with Tim and getting a clear plan of the solar system that would be added to our home. We interviewed a few other companies but after a recommendation from a family member and meeting with Tim, we felt extremely comfortable with our decision to go with them. The process to get the permit and to start the actual installation took about 3 months, which was a lot longer than expected. Especially since this meant we had to pay for an additional PGE bill. The technicians that came to install the system were great. My husband was advised by Jan that the PGE inspection was set for Thursday and therefore took a day off of work to accommodate the schedule and get everything finalized, and most importantly, we would be hooked up to PGE. On Thursday we were told that the work was not complete and the inspection date was either booked wrong or was pushed back to Friday which we could no accommodate with both of our work schedules. We are not sure what happened here but having my husband take two days off of work is a major inconvenience for us. Overall the company is great but the long process and the lack of communication with the correct dates was less than satisfactory. read more

We used Bay Area SunShares to explore the option of going solar(they host online seminars which we learned a lot). Solar Technologies is one of the three pre-vetted solar providers. We ended up picking Solar Technologies because two main reasons, 1. Sunpower panels, 2. Nick who answered gazillion questions from us. This company is the only one among the three pre-vetted providers install Sunpower panels. These panels have the most impressive warranty, 92% of the peak production(year 1) in year 25. The efficiency of the panel we ended up picking is 22%. When we researched online, it is the highest in the industry for now. Nick who came out to provide us the quote, is very knowledgable about solar and easy to talk to. We had so many follow-up questions. He answered them thoroughly. He is the type of guy that you just feel at ease to ask anything, a dumb question, another quote for a slightly smaller size system... We have finished the project in April 2019. The whole process is quite smooth with couple caveats, but all solved to our satisfaction at the end. Everyone including the onsite and in office staff shows that customer satisfaction is their priority. Now we enjoyed looking up how much electricity being produced by our new system, 15 SunPower X22 panels. it is producing 35kwh on sunny days. The production is not only depends on the size of the system but also sun exposure of the roof. Overproducing in summer months, the opposite in the rainy season. I can't believe it. I signed 4 months ago to spend 35k. I Thought I had a commitment to get installation in 2019 to get the tax credit. Today 11/11 after asking for a status ( yes I had to go to them) they say that not only can they not meet the commitment date but that they also can't install the car charger and "oh by the way despite our previous inspections and contract you will need to have an electrician upgrade your 200 amp panel and we'll contact you next year". Can't be trusted. Integrity is key in solar and these guys apparently don't have it! Now back to the hunt for a company that owners contracts and small claims to get my lost rebate from these guys! read more

You cannot find a better provider than ST. I was especially diligent when getting solar for our house. I had 8 different vendors come to our house, and solicited bids from all 8. I went through the negotiation process with all of them. ST was not the cheapest, but they offered a very competitive Sun Power package and so we went with them. And I am thrilled that we did. Zweili is excellent, as is his entire team. They were responsive, professional, and courteous throughout the process. And we now have a business class solar technology system installed at our home which is generating higher than expected energy production. Last spring I put out a request online for solar companies to contact me about installing a system on our roof. What a parade of crazy that started! So many people started repeatedly calling my cell phone and trying aggressive "closer" sales techniques on me, begging me to have them come to my house, etc., etc., I was creeped out. That's when I found Patrick Stearns from Solar Technologies -- a complete game changer for me. Patrick is a total straight shooter and all around good guy, who earnestly seemed interested in getting us a great system. I am an Electrical Engineer and I spent two months interviewing installers. I went with 300W panels and Clint Biddle designed a system that will provide 90% of our power, with the remainder to come from PG&E in it's lower 2 tiers for cheap pricing. The system worked exactly as designed, saving us money every month so far, and it's been about six months. My neighbor two doors down was sold on the idea and also had a solar system installed by Solar Technologies- and I got a referral bonus!. Quality parts from a panel company with a large US presence. We had no problems from start to finish! Clint used Google Earth and determined the azimuth of our roof and how high the panels would need to be. Then, a deviation to the fire code was obtained by Solar Tech to allow the design to be installed, while ensuring it was safe. The crew were great, and the panels and inverter are working perfectly. We had three bids for a solar energy installations on our home from different companies, and this one was the most competitive in price, with all three companies recommending similar systems. In addition, we were able to get American panels (Suniva 260 panels) that were a solid black color with black backing that matched our roof. We have a very difficult roof with very multiple pitches and sections that are very steep. Solar Technologies was able to position the panels so as to make them appear from the street as not breaking the roof lines, and looking like they fade into the roof, despite the varying pitches. The installers were a pleasure to work with. Because of partial shading from various trees in our yard, we used Enphase Micro-Converters. The micro inverters work well keeping all of the panels operating throughout the day despite some shadows from the giant oak tree in our front yard. There is no noisy and ugly inverter on the side of our home, just one extra energy meter. We just received our energy bill for the last two months today. For June 15 to July 15th, electricity was a little over $6. For July 15th to August 15th it was more than negative $37, so for the two months our electric bill was negative...i.e a net of over $31 that PG&E owes us. Very cool! What little net electricity we are using is all in the lowest cost tier. Thanks to Solar Technologies, we have significantly lowered our carbon footprint. read more

Last year, I decided to put solar panels on my roof. I'd had an electric car for a while and it made sense, and I had just attended three days of training for the Climate Reality Project, so I wanted to do something to help fight climate change. I contacted four companies; two were referred from Bay Area SunShares--including Solar Technologies. All four sent competent salespeople, but James, my contact, did the best job of explaining the process and answering my questions. I consulted with experts, and they said that the SunPower panels that Solar Technologies uses were the best. The price was the best, too, although that wasn't the main consideration. The warranty is very long, which was reassuring, too. After making the initial agreement, James told me that I would be contacted later by the person who would manage the actual project, and Jan called me. It does take a while, because installers are busy. Finally, the day came-- and the panels were installed on April 22nd -- Earth Day! It took two days to do the full job--one day with panels and the other with the electrical work. I had the main panel and subpanel replaced, as my house is 60 years old, and they installed my level 2 EV charger while they were at it. The work went very smoothly, and the panels started generating electricity right away. I did have to go through some inspections, and that took a while, but the people from Solar Technologies came right out and prepared everything for the inspector. Now, the project is done. I wish it had taken less time, but that seems to be the way it is with every solar installation company. I got quotes from two Solar companies. The first one gave a long presentation, quoted a price, and then offered a big discount for signing their contract "right now". It expired when the sales rep left my home. The next day I met Nick Bahrenburg, a rep for Solar Technologies. His presentation was short and to the point. He did not pressure me. However, he easily convinced me that his company's Sunpower panels, and their warranty, was superior. What's more, their price was only slightly higher. Sunpower panels have a 25 year warranty. And Solar Technologies' workmanship warranty is good for 10 years (in case their installation leads to a leak in my roof, which it has not after a somewhat rainy month). The sales rep Nick, the engineer who checked out my attic to plan everything, and the installers were all very professional. They were also very patient and helpful while I nitpicked a few points in the contract, and waffled between paying cash vs financing the panels, changing my mind at the last minute, but then changing my mind again! OK now for the best part. After the first month with these solar panels, my PG&E bill dropped from $189.50 to $35.83! And that includes the electricity I'm using to charge my Chevy Volt battery... which means I'M NOT PAYING FOR GASOLINE EITHER... AND NOT SUPPORTING THE OIL INDUSTRY! Before the government tax credit, that's an 8.5% ROI on my investment. And factoring in the tax credit (which lets me deduct 30% of what I spent on the solar panels), my ROI is 12.1%! read more

While the process to resolve the matter could've been much smoother, I'm happy the issue was finally resolved. Solar Technologies is a business you can trust. I highly recommend them. We commissioned them for an 18 panel system for our house 5 months ago. Everything was explained and followed without exception. All questions were answered and some before we asked. The installers were prompt, courteous, professional. One concern going into this endeavor was what happens if there is damage to the roof. They have an experienced engineer with background in roofing. There was a stain discovered under one of the broken tiles (that they replace with new ones, for free), and this was investigated with a free inspection of the interior of the attic. No leak was found, and the evidence indicated that the stain was during construction 17 years ago. Really nice that all the information was delivered in writing. So my fear of damage to the roof has been completely allayed. System was installed on time, in budget and without issues. Connection to PG&E is handled internally. To Jeff and Company, Bravo. While I appreciate your efforts at a public apology, I find it somewhat insincere considering the telephone conversation we shared last week. Now, in that phone call you tried to justify this second cancellation with the fact that it was a family emergency (totally valid). In your response you said he wanted me to reschedule with another rep. Yet here is the quote from his email. "I apologize for the inconvenience but I am going to have to cancel our meeting tomorrow. I can have another member of our sales team get in touch with you tomorrow to schedule another time this week". I'm pretty sure that's another way of saying "Tomorrows appointment is cancelled." Again in your reply you stated: "You (referring to me, the customer) did not respond and called in on Monday asking for another rep." So I guess I should apologize for not compulsively checking my email at 11 at night (As the email that you so cleverly attached in your comment was time-stamped at 10:37pm.) Instead, I called in promptly the next morning to schedule with another rep in hopes of still getting a meeting that day so that the afternoon I had cleared and taken off of work for this consult would not be wasted, AGAIN. Even though nowhere in that email does it suggest keeping the original appointment. So I suppose again I should apologize to you for the fact that I was flexible on the time but said 2:30 would be best and your rep agreed. Knowing full well he had another appointment at 2:00. I suppose his inability to manage his time is a misunderstanding on my part as well? As I recall, you called me because you were very concerned about the Yelp review I left your company. The frustrating thing about that call was that you were not concerned about my satisfaction (Or lack thereof) with your company... your only concern was the fact that my honest review may damage your company's reputation. You yourself acknowledged on the phone that my previous Yelp reviews were few in number, and they were all positive. That should attest to the disservice I felt for your company and the fact I am not quickly looking for fault. Just so we are clear, during our conversation not once did you make an attempt to apologize or accept responsibility for any mistakes made or loss of my time. During our telephone conversation I explained to you that my review was honest and accurate and stated to you: "I am just being honest, I am not using a bad review to hold you over a barrel for a better price." And your response in effect was: At this point I don't even care about your business. The irony is, had your phone call been to admit that mistakes were made and apologize, instead of making excuses, I would have been more than happy to discuss a plan to move forward with your company. We decided we wanted to go solar in June and started doing our research on panels and local solar companies. We networked with all our friends and family who have installed solar and made a few determinations on our own. We felt the Sun Power Panels were the most suitable for us based on efficiency, quality, and sustainability. We reached out to 3 highly rated companies, 2 of which carried Sun Power, and a third highly recommended local company in Martinez so we could see the recommended alternatives. In all this research we had to assess our 23 year old roof, which still had a few good years, and make a valued judgement. In the meantime we met with the 3 solar reps, all 3 very professional, respectful, knowledgeable and informative. We learned more from these kids; how to expand the tax credit towards installing a new roof, how to make the most of our roof array, and the surprise was finding about 'energy star cool shingles'. All this made our decision to re-roof and to go with the cool shingles a very sensible, economic, and eco-friendly move. Next was to choose the installers and roof contractors. We chose Solar Technologies for the Sun Power Panels, their fair price (less than their competitor), they were closer to us (we are in Walnut Creek), and for all the service reviews we could find, like yelp. They were consistently praised for their quality service, punctuality, and professional staff. This was so evident from our first contact with Jan on the phone and Nick showing up and staying with the project throughout. The installers and Jason the electrician, and EZ, the technician with the final hook up...were fun, informative, respectful, and very detailed. Even the building inspector, who was the same gentleman who inspected our new roof, was impressed, and the inspector's background was an electrical contractor!
