Due to an Uber address mix-up, we ended up at this location by mistake. Upon arriving near closing time, we just asked if we could come in for a drink as we believed this was a bar: After being told it was a private event, I calmly tried to explain our Uber mistake. Instead of handling the situation professionally, a female staff member completely lost her temper. She started screaming at us, talked to us terribly, and physically aggressed us and telling us to go away. Given the unprovoked hostility and the way she treated us, I strongly believe her behavior was racially motivated because we are not from America. She tried to physically attack us. Her actions were so completely out of line and unwarranted that even several guests from the private event came over to apologize to us for her deplorable conduct. No one should ever be subjected to discrimination, verbal abuse, or violence over a simple misunderstanding. I highly advise avoiding this place, customer service, safety, and basic respect are completely nonexistent here. To make matters worse, I didn't even say a word to provoke her, she completely misdirected her anger at us just because of other people standing nearby. Being targeted, screamed at, and pushed when you haven't done or said a single thing is completely unhinged. She literally screamed right in our faces: "Hell no! Get the fuck out of here!"

Unfortunately, what happened at the bar left me seriously questioning how their rare spirits are being handled. I originally had a reservation but arrived early and decided to eat at the bar instead. I'm a longtime agave enthusiast, so naturally I spent some time going through their spirits list. I was surprised to see two different iterations of a particularly rare bottle available. One iteration is considerably harder to find than the other, despite them being similarly priced here. Before ordering, I specifically confirmed with both my server and the bartender that they had both versions available, and I made it very clear that I wanted the older, rarer iteration. I already own the other version at home and had no interest in ordering it. They poured me one ounce of the older bottle, and it was excellent. I enjoyed it enough that I ordered another two-ounce pour, at roughly $75 per pour. This is where things became concerning. I watched the bartender attempt to pour from the bottle I had ordered and apparently discover that it was empty. Rather than telling me they were out, they picked up the other, less-rare version--the exact bottle I had specifically said I did not want--and poured two ounces from it. From where I was sitting, I could see what appeared to be a discussion between the bartenders about which bottle was being used, yet the drink was still sent to me without anyone mentioning that they had substituted it. As soon as I smelled the pour, I knew something was different. I asked them to bring me the bottle it had been poured from. Sure enough, it was the other version. I politely declined it and explained again that it wasn't what I had ordered. What happened next concerned me even more. The original bottle that appeared to be empty was taken away from the bar. Approximately 10 minutes later, a completely full bottle of that same rare iteration appeared. There is some important context here: this particular bottle was released in 2023 and was available for a relatively limited period. In all my years of collecting and drinking agave spirits, I have only encountered this particular bottle at a bar twice. When I do find older, discontinued releases like this, it's typically a one-off bottle that's already partially consumed. So seeing an empty bottle disappear into the back and then having what appeared to be another completely full bottle of this same 2023 release come out approximately 10 minutes later immediately caught my attention. Could a restaurant have multiple bottles stored away? Absolutely. But in my personal experience with this particular release, having multiple bottles readily available several years later would be extremely unusual. What made the situation even more concerning was that this supposedly replacement bottle wasn't brought out sealed. It arrived already opened, with the wax around the cork and bottle opening completely removed. I'm very familiar with these bottles, and removing that wax cleanly takes some effort. If this was simply another unopened bottle from their inventory, I don't understand why it wasn't brought to the bar sealed and opened in front of me. That would have immediately resolved any concern. Instead, I had just watched the first bottle run empty, watched them attempt to substitute a different and less-rare version without telling me, watched the empty bottle disappear into the back, and then roughly 10 minutes later a completely full--but already opened--bottle of this difficult-to-find 2023 release appeared. The pour from that bottle also tasted noticeably different to me from the first pour I had received. I want to be very clear: I cannot prove that the bottle was refilled, and I am not stating that as a fact. I can only describe exactly what I personally witnessed. But the entire sequence of events left me with serious concerns about the provenance of what I was being served. For an inexpensive house spirit, this would already be troubling. When you're talking about rare agave spirits being sold at approximately $75 per pour, transparency and provenance matter tremendously. If they truly had another bottle of this rare 2023 release in inventory, bringing the sealed bottle to the bar and opening it in front of me would have eliminated virtually every concern I had. Instead, I left questioning what I had actually been served. For a restaurant that presents itself as knowledgeable and passionate about Mexican spirits, this was extremely disappointing. I went in excited to explore their agave selection and left feeling that I couldn't trust what was being poured. Based on my experience, I would not return for rare or high-end spirits, and I would strongly encourage anyone ordering expensive or difficult-to-find pours here to ask to see the bottle before it is poured.

Novelists, comedians, entertainers, retirees, Disney or Bob Baker creatives, community leaders, world activists, and amazing storytellers preside over the Shrine of Friendship. Doors open at 6:45. Breakfast is prompt -- and not on LA-time. It's from 7-7:30. Served buffet style with a smorgasbord of choices to pair with the vibe of this live, variety-style show with plenty of audience participation. There were eggs, bacon, sausage, vegan bacon, oatmeal with every topping imaginable, pancakes, fruit, pastries, coffee, tea, and 3 different juices. Come, share a meal and friendship. I promise it'll be memorable with this welcoming batch of friendly folks from all walks of life. Annual memberships give you a discount on upcoming shows + an exclusive annual holiday party. This place was built in the 1960's by the Breakfast Club and given to the city in exchange for holding their meetings there. It is quite spacious with an abundance of parking in their private lot. It is a great location for larger events in that they have a stage and a large industrial kitchen. The downside is that the place needs some work. While I don't mind the 60's vibe, it seems that the city is not maintaining the space. The folding tables are quite worn around the edges and seem to be quite old. The chairs, while not completely uncomfortable, are certainly feeling their age. The kitchen, while quite large, apparently needs work. The large commercial dishwasher has been inoperable for a few years according to a staff member I spoke with, making it difficult for caterers who have to hand wash everything. Why do we pay all of these tax dollars to maintain city owned facilities? The bathrooms were remodeled somewhat recently. Whoever designed the remodel of the men's room should be fired. Who would place the hand dryer in a corner next to a urinal where both cannot be accessed at the same time. That is so odd to me. But overall, I'm happy to see the building being used. There are so few places large enough for big events that also has a large parking lot. I just wish the city took pride in the building, especially since they didn't pay for it. The least they could do is maintain it since they are charging a hefty fee for its usage.
